It will be interesting to see what Salah decides, and if major European clubs are ready to gamble by signing him at this late stage of his career, but his status as a free agent certainly lowers the risk.

Still, Graeme Bailey told TEAMtalk that, despite Liverpool’s interest, Olise is not available and would one day favour a move to Spain over a return to the Premier League.

Speaking to the Guardian, the England international admitted that Amorim’s ideas didn’t really work at United, though he still insists he had positive feelings towards him and tipped him to go on and have an “amazing” career elsewhere.

He has been rock solid for Lens, and they are second in the league table this season. Risser has been one of the main reasons why they are pushing for the league title. He has 10 clean sheets this season.
The opportunity to move to England could be tempting for him in the summer.
Similarly, Newcastle are looking to bring in an upgrade on Nick Pope. It remains to be seen whether they can convince the player to join the club. The 21-year-old needs to join a club with an ambitious and exciting project. Both clubs could be tempting destinations for him. It remains to be seen where he ends up eventually.
Lens will secure qualification for the UEFA Champions League next season, and the likes of Tottenham and Newcastle will not be able to provide him with that opportunity. It remains to be seen whether the player is prepared to accept that and move to England.

The talented young attacker could prove to be an excellent long-term investment for Liverpool. He can operate on either flank, and he will add goals, creativity, pace, and flair to the team. He is likely to improve with coaching and experience, and Liverpool could help him develop into a top-class player. The opportunity to join Liverpool could be tempting for the French attacker. He is likely to get regular opportunities at the Premier League club, and it could help him improve further. At PSG, he is more of a squad player.
It will be interesting to see if PSG is willing to sanction his departure in the summer. They need more cutting-edge in the final third, and he is an important first-team player. They are one of the wealthiest clubs in the world, and convincing them with a lucrative proposal could be difficult for Liverpool. It remains to be seen how the situation develops. They have also been linked to players like Anthony, Gordon and Yan Diomande.
It is evident that they are looking at multiple options, and it remains to be seen who they end up with.

It is no secret that they need more quality in the final third, especially with Robert Lewandowski, leaving at the end of the season. Isak would be an excellent replacement for the Polish international, but his valuation could be a huge problem for Barcelona.
The report further claims that negotiations could intensify in the coming weeks regarding the player’s exit. It remains to be seen whether Barcelona come forward with an acceptable offer for the player.
Liverpool are under no pressure to sell the player. He has a long-term contract with them, and they will want to keep him at the club for as long as possible. Also, it seems extremely unlikely that the player will force an exit after just one year at the club. He will want to prove himself at Liverpool and justify their investment in him.
Isak went on a strike at Newcastle United to force a move to Liverpool, and it would be extremely surprising if he decided to do the same at Anfield.
The Spanish tactician was first targeted by Liverpool chief Edwards after the tremendous work he did at Bayer Leverkusen, though he ended up taking over at Real Madrid.
Now, however, Alonso is available again and is back on Liverpool’s agenda after Slot’s disappointing second season in charge, according to Bild.

Slot arguably deserves a bit more time after winning the Premier League title in his first season in charge of LFC, but we know the nature of the modern game means things can change very quickly.
The reality is that Liverpool now look up against it to qualify for the Champions League, and may well finish the season without any silverware.
And despite Slot doing so well in his first season in charge, there has been a huge dip in performances despite the Dutch tactician being given a lot of expensive new signings to work with.
Alonso’s availability also means it’s tempting to start to think about how else to approach working with this current squad, particularly Florian Wirtz.
Alonso and Wirtz worked well together at Leverkusen, and that’s been one major issue for Slot this season.
Liverpool invested a lot in signing the Germany international, but he hasn’t looked at home in Slot’s system, and getting the best out of such an expensive signing will be crucial.
Alonso could work his magic with Wirtz again, as well as with another of his former Leverkusen players Jeremie Frimpong.
Politics has wormed its way back into football, and Reform UK are thrilled – or furious, depending on who you ask.
In a busy week for the far-right political party, leader Nigel Farage has stoked controversy with his visit to Ipswich Town FC. Despite previous claims that we should “keep politics out of football”, Farage seems very keen to plaster shots of himself in an Ipswich shirt all over social media.
At the same time, Reform MP Suella Braverman is embroiled in a dispute with the Football Association (FA) over their plans to create more coaching opportunities for people from Black, Asian, mixed or other ethnic backgrounds – plans the former-Conservative described as “woke nonsense”.
So, which is it, Reform? Is the beautiful game a political football, or is it, well, just football?
The club at the centre of the storm is desperate to prove that it is apolitical. Ipswich Town FC has stated that it “does not support or endorse any individual or party” and has “hosted representatives from a range of political parties” over the years.
Still, in a bid to stem the wave of criticism from fans, the club reiterated that it “is proud to be an inclusive, diverse and welcoming organisation that supports all members of the local and wider community. This commitment remains unchanged”. Does that count as “woke nonsense”, as well? Reform UK have yet to clarify.
Politicians have always dressed up as football fans. What’s different now?
If you’re looking at Farage smugly holding up his new shirt and thinking, ‘don’t they all do this?’, you’re not wrong. Politicians love to prove that they’re just like us – and, in the UK at least, that means loudly voicing support for a football team any chance they get. Current and former Labour Party leaders Keir Starmer and Jeremy Corbyn are both die-hard Arsenal fans; Corbyn once went so far as to back a parliamentary motion to have the Gunners officially declared the “best football team in the world”.
Of course, there have also been a fair few politicians whose football-fan credentials are…more questionable. Former Prime Minister David Cameron notoriously forgot which team he supported, urging people to back West Ham, despite having previously sold himself as an Aston Villa fan. When asked about the blunder, the then-Tory MP said it was “just one of those things”.
Likewise, Former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak wound up the crowd at a Manchester hustings event by saying that he hoped Southampton, his local club growing up, would beat Manchester United that weekend – even though the Saints were actually scheduled to play Leicester City. Not to be out-done by the big two parties, Liberal Democrat leader Ed Davey made sure to get a – painfully staged – photo of him celebrating the Lionesses’ win in the 2023 World Cup.
So far, so cringe. But, business as usual, right? Why the outcry over Farage?
Well, because the fans aren’t asking Ipswich Town to be apolitical; they’re asking the club they love not to endorse a particular flavour of politics. One Ipswich fan summarised it as a “horrendous look for our so called [sic] family club to allow the leader of a party that champions division, hatred and bigotry to parage around our gaff like he’s lord of the manor”. Similarly, the Ipswich’s LGBTQ+ fan group, Rainbow Tractors, said they feel “let down” by the club.
Fans are making it clear; their response isn’t apolitical, but deeply political.
Football fandom has always been political
To follow a team – really follow it, not like Rishi Sunak – you need to be dedicated, and fiercely loyal; you sit through disappointing matches and heart-breaking losses. That means you know how to get behind a cause.
An incredible example of how this energy and passion can turn political is Liverpool fans’ tireless campaigning for the introduction of the Hillsborough Law, and long-running boycott of the Sun newspaper, in the wake of the appalling response to the Hillsborough disaster.
Football has never existed in a bubble. It infects, and is infected by, every aspect of culture. That back-and-forth is how England anthem “Three Lions” became one of the best-selling UK singles of all time, and why we now hear Eurodance hit “Freed from Desire” chanted at so many football games. Football is in everything, and everything is in football.
That means sometimes politics is in football, whether the clubs – and the politicians – like it, or not.
Arsenal have been given an exciting opportunity in the transfer market as the race hots up for Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga.

As first reported for the Daily Briefing, a well-connected source has been in touch with me again to provide an update on something we discussed a few days ago, and it could have major repercussions for the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool, as well as potentially Chelsea and Manchester United.
For now, the Reds have the most advanced interest in Camavinga, having had two rounds of talks with his entourage, though I should stress that that does not mean we’ll necessarily see this develop into any direct negotiations with Real Madrid.
Eduardo Camavinga transfer could be an option for Arsenal, but will they take it?
With Camavinga’s future in doubt, it makes sense that his representatives are sounding out clubs to see if there’s any interest. This kind of thing happens all the time.
Crucially, however, my source, who has asked to remain anonymous to protect relationships, insists it’s clear-cut that Camavinga will only move to a club playing in the Champions League.
This gives Arsenal a clear edge – for now – over Liverpool and Chelsea, who are struggling and not looking guaranteed to qualify for Europe’s top club competition next season.
This could yet lead to Manchester United also entering the conversation, but that’s not straightforward either.
“Arsenal are keen to move away from a model they used in the past where they’d sign players because of availability or relationships with key agents or intermediaries,” my source explained.
“They’ve been offered Camavinga but they’ll only go for it if they’re convinced it’s right for them. For now, they have other preferred targets.”
It’s also well-established that this is the case for Manchester United, with both clubs considering Sandro Tonali and generally favouring moving for players already proven in the Premier League.
Arsenal and Real Madrid have a good relationship
Relationships between clubs do matter, though, and we’ve seen before that Arsenal and Real Madrid are prepared to do business together. This led to loan moves for Dani Ceballos and Martin Odegaard, the latter of which of course became permanent.
We’re not at that stage yet, but I wouldn’t rule out Arsenal exploring the option of signing Camavinga on loan at some point in the window.
This will depend, however, on whether or not they can land a preferred target before that, and of course if Camavinga himself is still available or been snapped up by someone else.
An interesting situation, which looks very much open and a major opportunity for top clubs if they want to take it. I’ll keep you posted as and when I hear more.

It’s vital for this NUFC project to keep key players like Tonali around, and that could mean he’s going to prove too expensive even for the top Premier League clubs this summer.
With confirmation that Mohamed Salah will leave Liverpool at the end of the 2025–26 season, attention has quickly shifted to where the Egyptian superstar will continue his career.

That’s according to former Premier League scout Mick Brown as he spoke to Football Insider about Villa’s need to look for a replacement for Ollie Watkins.

Discussing Villa’s plans, Brown explained why he felt they would likely be in the market for someone of Brobbey’s profile this summer.

The 20-year-old has been one shining light in an otherwise hugely disappointing Spurs season, and it could now be that the club risk losing him if they get relegated.

Olise has been on fire for Bayern this season, establishing himself as one of the best attacking players in Europe with 19 goals and 24 assists in all competitions.
Those are the numbers LFC will need from their new winger if they are to adequately replace a world class talent like Salah, but it will likely require paying crazy money, as they did last summer with signings such as Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz. Whether they can do that for a second year in a row without also making significant sales remains to be seen.
It’s early days yet, but one player to keep an eye on could be Cody Gakpo. He was a target for Bayern last summer, and although I’m not aware of any talks yet, there’s the sense that he would be available for the right price, and it could also be logical to try including him in any deal for Olise.
Diomande, meanwhile, has shone at RB Leipzig and I’ve heard Arne Slot is a big fan, even if he’s not yet a big and proven name in the same league as Salah or Olise.
There’s a recognition that it’s not the easiest market for top attacking players right now, so it will be interesting to see how Liverpool navigate that, but work has already begun to ensure that they’re fully prepared for this new era without Salah.

The USMNT left-back has been linked with top clubs in the past, including Liverpool and Manchester City, and now Man United have joined the race to sign him.

Kepa Arrizabalaga – 2/10 – Unconvincing on the ball, and unfortunately just always looked prone to an error, which eventually came when he failed to deal with the cross for the first goal. Surely an end to him starting big games for Arsenal.
William Saliba – 7/10 – Kept Erling Haaland quiet very well, and probably the only Arsenal player to come away with much credit as it’s hard to find much he did wrong on the day.
Gabriel Magalhaes – 6/10 – Not the worst player on the pitch by any means, but not his usual calm self on the ball, which made it hard for Arsenal to build from the back.
Ben White – 4/10 – While Ben White has been a great performer for much of his Arsenal career, it’s perhaps easy to see why Jurrien Timber is now the clear first choice when fit. Jeremy Doku ran White ragged for much of the game when you sense Timber might’ve done a bit better to keep the City winger quiet.
Piero Hincapie – 4/10 – Like White on the other side, it was a really unconvincing display from Piero Hincapie. The Ecuador international couldn’t handle Antoine Semenyo and probably should’ve been replaced by Riccardo Calafiori a lot earlier.
Martin Zubimendi – 5/10 – Just slightly off the pace and unable to control the midfield like he can do at his best. Martin Zubimendi is perhaps tired, more than anything else, after starting so many games in what has been a very intense season for Arsenal.
Declan Rice – 6/10 – Worked harder than a lot of his teammates, but didn’t bring as much quality as he’s capable of.
Kai Havertz – 4/10 – Probably not fit enough to be starting a big game like this, and it showed. Kai Havertz has a role to play in this Arsenal squad, and has been missed through injury, but it’s obvious that Eberechi Eze would have started and would surely have been more influential had he been fit enough.
Bukayo Saka – 3/10 – Considering he captained Arsenal on the day and is their highest paid player, this was really far from good enough from Bukayo Saka. The England winger was pretty much invisible throughout and has not quite looked himself for most of this season. To show up and play like this in such an important game is pretty unforgiveable.
Leandro Trossard – 4/10 – Pretty quiet, as he has been for a while now. Somehow not replaced by Gabriel Martinelli until the closing stages.
Viktor Gyokeres – 4/10 – Worked hard and caused City some problems with his movement early on, but you want more than that from your marquee striker signing in a major cup final.
