What Makes Carnival Destiny and the Ace Class Different? Here’s Everything We Know So Far

11 July 2026 at 23:37

When it comes to Carnival Cruise Line’s next class of ship, the company is leaning heavily into the theory that bigger is better. After all, the newly-announced Carnival Destiny will carry nearly 1,500 more passengers than the biggest ship in their current fleet. Read on to see the other ways in which Carnival expects the first of her class to be a game changer.

How Big Will Carnival Destiny Be?

In announcing the new Ace class of ships, Carnival Cruise Line president Christine Duffy shared that the first of three β€” Carnival Destiny β€” would debut in 2029. Her as-yet-unnamed sister ships are expected to enter service in 2031 and 2033.

So just how big will the ship be? Destiny will weigh in at around 230,000 gross tons and carry an estimated 8,000 passengers. For comparison, the biggest ships currently sailing for Carnival are the Jubilee and Celebration, each of which come in at around 180,000 gross tons and carry 6,600 guests at maximum capacity.

What Does β€˜More Sea to See’ Mean?

Even as the ship’s construction was getting under way, Duffy rolled out the Ace class ship’s motto: β€œMore Sea to See.” In explaining the catchphrase, Duffy said the new class was β€œdesigned to change how guests will experience the sea while on their cruise.”

In essence, this means that Destiny will offer more access to the ocean than any other ship in Carnival’s fleet. How will this be accomplished? By featuring everything from a re-imagined lanai deck to what the exec said was β€œthe most balcony cabins with ocean views at sea.”

If that phrasing seems unusual, it is clearly designed that way. Why? Keep in mind that many modern ships, including Royal Caribbean’s Oasis and Icon class, have balconies which overlook the center of the ship as opposed to the ocean. Translation: While those ships may have more total balconies, Carnival Destiny will have the largest number of, as they said β€œbalcony cabins with ocean views.”

Duffy emphasized that the new concepts would β€œcreate ocean views from more places on board, bringing the ocean into constant view and redefining how guests will connect with the sea.”

Carnival Destiny’s Other Big Offerings

While details were few, it was also announced that Destiny would be introducing new concepts at every turn. β€œMore than 70 percent of our dining, entertainment and signature guest experience will be delivered brand new.”

Already, Carnival is in the process of making major changes where dining is concerned. A new menu is being rolled out across the entire fleet, and the upcoming Carnival Festivale and Carnival Tropicale will feature four new-to-Carnival dining venues.

What’s unclear at this point is whether these new venues are included in the plans for Carnival Destiny.

Where Will Carnival Destiny Sail To?

One thing Carnival did not mention with regards to Destiny’s future is exactly where the ship will be homeported. They did, however, reveal that the ship will be visiting Carnival’s Paradise Collection offerings in the Bahamas and Caribbean.

No word as of yet when bookings for the new ship will go on sale.

South Korea June 2026: BYD smashes records

10 July 2026 at 09:27

The BYD Dolphin is the 2nd best-selling foreign model in South Korea in June.

The South Korean new light vehicle market is up by a robust 9.5% year-on-year in June to 159,348 units. This is divided into 121,289 units (+3%) for local carmakers and 38,059 (+37%) for foreigners. The H1 2026 tally is up 2.5% to 845,356, including 661,343 domestic brands (-3.7%) and 184,013 foreigners (+33.2%). Kia (+18.7%) has now been the #1 brand at home for 6 straight months, having established its dominance over sister brand Hyundai (-2.5%) in difficulty again. Kia is almost 27,000 units ahead of Hyundai YTD, which should ensure a Full Year victory. In third place for the 5th straight month, Tesla continues to shine with sales up 74.4% to 7% share and above the 10,000 unit-mark for the 4th month in a row. BYD (+2014.5%) smashes its records to #7 with 4,652 sales and 2.9% share (Previous best was reached last April at #9 with 2,023 sales and 1.3% share).

In the local models ranking, the Hyundai Grandeur (+80.4%) soars to pole position for the first time this year, dislodging the Kia Sorento (+8.1%) which remains the faraway YTD leader. The Kia Seltos (+31.1%) is up seven spots on May to #3, the nameplate’s first podium finish after 84 months in market. Its previous best was #4 hit in September 2019 and October 2024. The Carnival (-6.7%) and Sportage (-2.9%) ensure there are four Kia models in the Top 5. The Kia EV5 is the most popular recent launch and repeats at a record #13. The Tesla Model Y (+49.1%) once again obliterates the foreign models charts with over 9,000 sales. The event of the month is the arrival at #2 of the BYD Dolphin (+35 spots on last month), with the BMW 5 Series (+0.5%), Mercedes E Class (-18.5%) and GLC (-20.8%) rounding out the Top 5. BYD also places the Sealion 7 at #6 and the Atto 3 at #14.

Ireland June 2026: Tesla at 35.6% share, Mercedes CLA in Top 10

8 July 2026 at 05:54

The Tesla Model 3 is the best-selling vehicle in Ireland in June with 19.9% share.

New car sales in Ireland traditionally slow down in the lead to the biannual licence plate change of July, and June volumes are down -10.2% year-on-year to just 2,187. The year-to-date tally is up 4.2% to 85,188. This month Tesla (+43.7%) suffocates the market with 35.6% share, or more than 1 in 3 vehicles sold. In fact five of the Top 6 brands vastly outpace the overall growth rate with at least double-digit gains. Mercedes (+308.3%) is the most impressive followed by BMW (+111.3%), Skoda (+56.7%) and Toyota (+51.9%). The odd one out is Volkswagen (-6.4%) at #5. Audi (+82.9%) also impresses at #9.

Like last year, Tesla manages a 1-2 with the Model 3 (+47%) in the lead at 19.9% share and the Model Y (+39.8%) at #2 with 15.7% of the market, selling over 5 times the amount of the #3, the Skoda Octavia (-1.5%). The Toyota Corolla (+87.5%) and RAV4 (+51.5%) brilliantly round out the Top 5 but are not as dynamic as the Skoda Enyaq (+462.5%), Mercedes CLA (+2050%) and E Class (+1333.3%). Leader year-to-date, the Toyota Yaris Cross (+42.9%) falls to #9 while the VW Tiguan (+81.8%) closes the Top 10.

Previous month: Ireland May 2026: Toyota RAV4 repeats at #1 in market up 38.3%

One year ago: Ireland June 2025: Tesla at 22.2% share, Smart #1 up to #3
