First Top 20 finish for the BYD Atto 2.
The Argentinean new light vehicle market hits the brakes in April: it falls -14.6% year-on-year to 44,344 units. The year-to-date tally is now down -6.2% to 193,445. Strikingly, the Top 8 brands are all in negative. Toyota (-31.4%) implodes but repeats at #1 with 15.1% share vs. 13.4% so far this year. It is however Volkswagen (-38%) that stays #1 year-to-date with 14.1% of the market. Fiat (-19.8%) remains at #3, Ford (-11.8%) is up two spots on March to #4 and Chevrolet (-7.9%) down one to #5. Newcomer BYD is up one rank to #9 which is a new ranking record for the brand, also hitting best ever volumes (1,701) and share (3.8%). YoY gains appear outside the Top 10, notably Chery (+928.1%), Haval (+518.9%), Kia (+192%), BAIC (+169.7%) and BMW (+146.1%).
Model-wise, the Toyota Hilux (-31.4%) returns to the top spot it holds year-to-date with 5.3% share, well above the Peugeot 208 (-34.3%), leader last month . The Ford Territory (+35.6%) impresses with a large YoY lift and ascends to the podium for the first time in the nameplateβs history. The Ford Ranger (-32.9%) stays at #4 while the Fiat Cronos (-42%) rounds out the Top 5 in paltry fashion. The VW Tera remains the best-selling recent launch at #6, distancing the Toyota Yaris Cross (#10), for the first time in the Top 10, and the BYD Atto 2 (#18) delivering its maiden Top 20 finish.
