New Zealand April 2026: GWM breaks into Top 5

29 May 2026 at 09:59

The GWM Haval H6 is up to 6th place in April.

The New Zealand new vehicle market is up 11.6% year-on-year in April to 9,863 units. Passenger vehicles are up 16.7% to 7,110 sales while commercial vehicles are flat at +0.2% to 2,753. The year-to-date tally is now up a sturdy 13.6% to 46,593. Toyota (+4.9%) is at a strong 23.1% share, well above the 19.2% it commands year-to-date. Ford (+10.9%) on the other hand holds a 10.3% share, just below the 10.7% YTD level and despite a larger YoY gain. Mitsubishi (-3.1%) manages to stay #3 despite enduring the only YoY drop in the Top 8.

GWM (+130.7%) more than doubles its sales year-on-year to reach a record 5th place (previous best #6 last December), also hitting all-time high volumes at 489 (366 last December) and share at 5% (3.9%). GWM is the best-selling Chinese brand for the month, distancing BYD (+59%) down two spots on March to #6. MG (+22.3%) and Suzuki (+12.5%) also beat the market in the remainder of the Top 10. Below, Jaecoo (+125.4%) is up to a best ever 12th place, followed by newcomer Chery at #13. Fellow Chinese Zeekr cracks the Top 25 at #24.

Model-wise, the Ford Ranger (+11.7%) reclaims the top spot off the Toyota Hilux (-5.7%) which, as it also is the case in neighbouring Australia, doesn’t seem to benefit fully from the launch of the new generation as it is down -8.9% year-to-date. Also handicapped until now by a lengthy generation changeover, the Toyota RAV4 (-18.5%) climbs back up to #3 despite still falling sharply YoY. The Mitsubishi Triton (+79.9%) soars as do the GWM Haval H6 (+198.8%) and Toyota Corolla Cross (+121.9%). Notice also the Jaecoo J5 at #22 and the Zeekr 7X at #25, both delivering their first Top 25 finish.

Colombia April 2026: Tesla Model Y soars to 8.5% share

28 May 2026 at 05:35

The Tesla Model Y is a distant leader in Colombia in April.

After gaining 38.9% in January, 49.5% in February and 53.5% in March, the Colombian new car market does even better in April at +53.9% year-on-year to 26,827 units. As a result, the total volume after four months is up 49.5% to 100,603. Kia (+51.5%) easily retains the brands top spot with 12.3% share, however this is well below the 14% it commands year-to-date. Renault (+29.7%) follows at #2 while newcomer Tesla repeats at #3 with a record 2,640 sales and 9.8% share, even higher tham the 8.7% of last month. Mazda (+9%), Chevrolet (+53.7%), Toyota (-7%) and Suzuki (+55.7%) ensure the Top 7 is unchanged on March. Great performers in the remainder of the Top 20 include BYD (+76.7%), Chery (+398.9%), Changan Deepal (+204%), BMW (+129%), Dongfeng (+273.2%) and JAC (+122.2%).

Model-wise, the Tesla Model Y tightens its grip on the market, holding a fantastic 8.5% share vs. 3.4% for the #2, the Kia K3 (+36.5%). This way, the Model Y snaps the YTD lead with 4% share. The Renault Duster Nacional (+84.7%) is up two spots on March to land on the third step of the podium, distancing the Mazda CX-30 (+14.1%) and Mazda2 (+29.3%), both discreet in context. The Kia Sportage (+532%) surges to #6 ahead of a very dynamic Chevrolet Onix (+93.6%). The Tesla Model 3 is down 7 ranks to #13. Other newcomers inside the Top 50 are the Ford Territory (#16), Suzuki DZire (#20), VW Tera (#22), Deepal S05 (#31) and Chery iCAR 03 (#37).
