UK June 2026: Tesla Model Y and Model 3 on top

The Tesla Model Y is the best-selling vehicle in the UK in June.

New car sales in the UK are up a very satisfying +11.4% year-on-year in June to 213,166 units. This is the market’s first time above the 200,000 mark since pre-pandemic 2019. This way, the H1 volume is up 9.2% to 1,137,929. Encouragingly, private sales beat the market at +12.5% to 80,571 and 37.8% share vs. 37.4% in June 2025, while fleet sales advance 10.5% to 126,907 and 59.5% share vs. 60% last year and business sales are up 17.1% to 5,688 and 2.7% share vs. 2.5%. Year-to-date, private sales are up 12.6% to 452,830 and 39.8% share vs. 38.6% over H1 2025 while fleet sales gain 6.8% to 659,488 and 58% share vs. 59.2% last year. Business sales are up 12.5% to 25,611 and 2.3% share vs. 2.2%.

Looking at sales by propulsion, petrol is down -4% to 84,541 and 39.7% share vs. 46% in June 2025, diesel is down -24.4% to 8,099 and 3.8% share vs. 5.6%, HEV is up 25.3% to 29,874 and 14% share vs. 12.5%. BEV sales are up 35% to 63,950 and a round 30% share vs. 24.8% a year ago and PHEVs gain 24.9% to 26,702 and 12.5% share vs. 11.2% last year. Year-to-date, petrol is down -2.7% to 490,994 and 43.2% share vs. 48.4% over the same period in 2025, diesel is off -10.5% to 52,548 and 4.6% share vs. 5.6%, HEV gains 10.2% to 161,676 and 14.2% share vs. 14.1%, BEVs are up 26.6% to 284,579 and 25% share vs. 21.6% and PHEVs up 38.4% to 148,132 and 13% share vs. 10.3%.

Brand-wise, Volkswagen (-4.7%) keeps the lead despite going agains the positive market, holding 7.6% share vs. 7.9% over H1. Tesla (+57.7%) surges 20 spots on last month to reach #2 with 12,173 sales and 5.7% share, its best ranking and share since December 2024 (#2 and 6.1%) and largest volume since December 2022 (16,368). BMW (-7.5%) ranks #3 for the month and ascends to #2 year-to-date, a ranking it also held over the Full Year 2025. Audi (+18.8%) and MG (+37.5%) both beat the market and round out the Top 5. Notice also Omoda (+173.8%), Jaecoo (+149.6%) and BYD (+36.2%) all very healthy while newcomers Chery (#21) and Geely (#29) confirm their success. Leapmotor is up 1403.5% to #28.

Over in the models charts, Tesla brilliantly manages a 1-2 for the first time since December 2024, with the Model Y (+61.8%) at 3.2% share and the Model 3 (+52.9%) at 2.5%. As a result the Model Y cracks the YTD Top 10 at #10, with June accounting for 44% of its H1 sales. The Ford Puma (+19.6%) is relegated to third place but easily holds onto the YTD top spot. It is followed by the Kia Sportage (+34.9%) and Nissan Qashqai (-9.3%). #3 year-to-date, the Jaecoo 7 manages an 11th consecutive Top 10 finish at #7. At #10, the Ford Kuga signs a second Top 10 finish in the past 15 months after last February.
