Game of the Day
With the wind blowing in as a pitchers’ duel going on, the Juanita Sanchez baseball team knew it had to be ready to any opportunity to score.
And when it happened, the Cavaliers made the most of it.
With Juanita Sanchez’s Henry Trinidad trading zeroes with BVPCF’s Noah Ferreira, it became apparent one run would be enough to win. A misplayed ball gave the Cavaliers the moment they were waiting for, as they turned the error into the only runs needed in the 2-0 victory over the Warrior Pride.
Offense was going to be tough to come by with the weather – with a strong wind blowing in and turning every fly ball into a guaranteed out - and Trinidad and Ferreira’s efforts on the mound made it seem like no one would ever score.
In the bottom of the sixth – Juanita Sanchez was the home team, but the game took place at Central Falls’ Macomber Stadium – Matthew Santos gave the Cavaliers some life with a one-out single and after a botched pickoff, he found himself on third.
BVPCF chose to intentionally walk Isaiah Bento, who promptly stole second base. Angel Polanco found himself in a hitters count and hit a ground ball that was misplayed and thrown away trying to get Santos at the plate. Santos slid in safely, with Bento – the Cavaliers’ catcher – hustling the entire time to come across with the second run.
It seemed like Juanita Sanchez was a lock to win, but the Warrior Pride weren’t ready to quit.
Trinidad gave them the chance they needed, hitting Jolihan Perez to open the seventh and then giving up a one-out walk to Aliezel Fernandez.
After a meeting on the mound, Trinidad went back to work. He gave up a line drive by Alex Torres that was hit right at Juanita Sanchez second baseman George Padilla, who caught the ball and stepped on second for the game-ending double play.
Trinidad was stellar in his complete-game performance, giving up two hits with four walks while striking out six. Ferreira was equally impressive for BVPCF, giving up three hits with one walk and striking out 14, taking the hard-luck loss.
⚾BASEBALL – Division I
Pilgrim 9, Portsmouth 3
Kyle Rezendes earned the win for Pilgrim in relief after giving up four hits and one run over 3.2 innings. He struck out three batters and walked none. Righthander Anthony DeLuca started on the mound for Pilgrim and gave up four hits and two runs (none earned) over 3.1 innings. He struck out four batters and issued five walks.
The Pilgrim Patriots collected 11 hits in the game. Dominic Berry, Jackson Monte, Braden Paesano and Samuel Shelton had two hits each. Paesano and DeLuca drove in two runs apiece. Pilgrim scored five runs in the seventh inning to seal the victory.
For the Portsmouth Patriots, Avery Amaio, Carter Doran and Benjamin Humm had two hits each and Brady MacDonald and John Tesa drove in one run each.
Cranston East 10, Cumberland 7
The Clippers and Thunderbolts slugged their way to 17 total runs, but it was Cranston East that stood tallest thanks to two big innings of offense.
Yadiel Ventura and Tyler Chisholm each drove in two runs and scored twice, and relievers Marcelo Acosta and Anthony Campos kept Cumberland off the scoreboard through the final three frames to ensure the win.
The Bolts put up four runs in both the first and fifth innings, with single scores in the third and sixth.
Cumberland was led by Nathan Goodrich, who was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored, and Zach Blanchard, who went 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Paxton Chenevert had two hits as well, and scored once.
Smithfield 10, North Kingstown 7
Sam Cicchitelli went 2-for-3 at the plate and led the Sentinels with three RBIs. Smithfield showed patience at the plate, accumulating 10 walks in the game. Chase Prata started on the mound and earned the win for the Sentinels. He allowed six hits and six runs (four earned) over four innings, striking out one and walking one. Brady McShane appeared in relief.
North Kingstown amassed 10 hits in the game. Rocco Coseglia was 2-for-3 at the plate and led the way with two RBIs. Bodie Forsell had three hits in four at-bats. Brandon Venditto hit a solo home run to center field in the bottom of the first for the Skippers.
East Providence 10, Lincoln 6

⚾BASEBALL – Division II
South Kingstown 8, Mt. Hope 3
The Huskies got on the board first with three runs in the first inning, but the Rebels answered back with two runs in the bottom of the first and four more runs in the second inning and SK pitching held MH scoreless the rest of the way and rolled to a win.
Nick Vellone was the starter for South Kingstown and though he struggled in the first inning, he managed to go the distance, allowing three runs on six hits while striking out five to pick up the win.
South Kingstown rapped out 10 hits in the game, with Jack Noonan leading the way with three hits in four at bats. Michael DiGioia, Cole Rosen and Noonan each drove in two runs in the win and the team showed patience at the plate, piling up six walks in the game.
Westerly 16, Moses Brown 10
The two teams combined for 32 hits on the day, with the Quakers getting 17 and the Bulldogs 15. But Westerly came out ahead on the scoreboard.Westerly scored six runs on four hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. Luke Gwaltney doubled, scoring one run; Jack Zerbarini hit an inside-the-park home run to score three runs; Matteo Hackett drew a walk to knock in a run; and a passed ball scored another run. The Bulldogs had also scored six runs in the third. Zerbarini led Westerly with five runs batted in. The infielder went 2-for-5 on the day. Gwaltney started the game on the mound for Westerly. He allowed nine hits and seven runs (five earned) over four innings, striking out eight and walking two.Brayden Menard went 5-for-5 at the plate to lead Moses Brown’s hitting attack.
Cranston East 10, Cumberland 7

North Smithfield 4, Tiverton 2
Starting pitcher Dylan Nickerson struck out 12 batters and gave up just two runs in six innings of work to lead the Northmen to the victory at home. Leadoff hitter Wyatt Pullen had three hits and an RBI and scored a run, and Samuel Garrepy had two hits and drove in two runs.For the Tigers, starter Alex Monkevicz struck out 11 batters and threw for 5.2 innings, giving up seven hits and four runs (three earned) and walking four batters. Zach Carreiro led Tiverton with three hits and James Conley had a hit and knocked in the Tigers’ two runs.
EWG 13, Davies 3
Offense was in no short supply for the Scarlet Knights on Thursday, as they plated five runs in the home half of the first and kept piling on.
Dylan Main and TJ Berek each drove in a pair of runs, with Main also scoring three times. Leadoff man Tyler Medeiros, Tyler Main and Josh Larned each collected a hit and scored two runs.
Berek, the EWG starter, allowed four hits and one run over four innings, with three strikeouts, to earn the win.
For the Patriots, Nicholas Packer paced the offense, going 2-for-2 with two runs scored in the loss.
🥎SOFTBALL – Division I
Prout 14, Ponaganset 2
The Crusaders grasped every opportunity the Chieftains handed over and Sara Slitt’s bomb highlighted a big offensive performance in a 14-2 win.
Coming off a 2-0 loss to Chariho, Prout’s bats were hungry for contact. The Crusaders scrapped a run across on second-inning Ponaganset miscues. Those mistakes continued to happen in the second and Prout pounced, getting an RBI double from Mia Boyajian, an RBI single from Slitt, Ana Pearce, Caroline Smith and Emma Sechio as part of the eight-run inning.
Up 9-2 heading to the fourth, Slitt hit a solo home run that ignited a five-run inning, allowing the game to end after the bottom half via the 12-run rule.
Slitt finished 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs and Rachel Dias went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one run. Smith drove in two and scored two, Sechio finished with two RBI and two runs and Kelsea Flaherty scored twice. Megan Gardiner had two RBI and threw three innings allowing zero earned runs and finishing with nine strikeouts.
Ella McKenney helped provide some offense for Ponaganset (which plays in Division II), driving in both of the team’s second-inning runs.
Chariho 9, St. Raphael 3
Adrianna Jeannenot helped her own cause with a go-ahead single in the fifth inning before the Chargers exploded in the seventh in the 9-3 win over the Saints.
The pitching matchup – with the Chariho All-Stater up against St. Raphael All-Stater Izzy Sousa – was the story coming in, but offense ended up deciding the game.
A two-out double by Noelle Welch tied the game for the Saints in the bottom of the fourth. In the fifth, a two-out triple by Maddie Dorgan set the stage for a two-out single by Jeannenot that made it 4-3.
Chariho added a run in the sixth, then came up with four to seal the victory.
Dorgan has success atop the Chargers’ order, going 3-for-3 with three runs and one RBI. Kaelyn Comerford went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run. Anna Tretton scored twice in the win that kept Chariho undefeated and atop the D-I standings.
Welch paced the St. Raphael offense, going 2-for-3 while driving in all three runs. Ava Guatieri scored twice in the loss.
Moses Brown 11, Cumberland 3
Abbie DeWolf and Ava Lourenco gave the Quakers’ a 1-2 punch atop the order that did plenty of damage in their 11-3 win over the Clippers.
The Moses Brown duo both walked to open the game and in the second, helped break it open. Up 2-0, DeWolf hit a two-run double and Lourenco followed with a two-out single for a 5-0 lead. Elodie Cannon added an RBI single and MB never looked back from its 6-0 lead.
DeWolf, the leadoff hitter, went 2-for-3 with a double, triple, two runs and two RBI. Lourenco, hitting in the two spot, went 3-for-3 with two RBI and two runs. Cannon finished 2-for-4 with one RBI and one run, Abigail Sepe scored twice and Abby McAuliffe had two RBI.
Madelyn Casavant was solid in defeat, going 1-for-3 with two RBI for Cumberland.
Westerly 4, Smithfield 0
Frankie Arnold was dominant in a three-hit shutout and the Bulldogs found ways to give her support in a 4-0 win over the Sentinels.
Arnold had trouble with leadoff hitters, giving up a double, single and single to the first batter in the first three innings. She was strong enough to make sure nothing happened after that and faced one batter over the minimum in the final four innings. Arnold threw a complete-game three-hitter, walking one and striking out 13.
Westerly’s offense scrapped up a run in the first and another in the third, which gave Arnold more than enough to work with. Addison Poole scored twice for Westerly and three different Bulldogs had hits in the win.
Joy Matteson was the only Sentinel who found success against Arnold, going 2-for-3 with a double in the loss.
La Salle 10, Cranston West 0
The Rams got on the board early and Hailey Vigneau spun a gem in the 10-0 win over the Falcons.
La Salle got on the board fast, with an RBI single from Erin Moran and a two-run single by Izzy Dong for the 3-0 lead after the first inning. The Rams didn’t stop there, as Nikki Pallotta and Jennie Broomfield put a charge into everything they saw, with Broomfield hitting a fourth-inning grand slam and Pallotta capping the scoring for the night in the fifth.
Vigneau didn’t need the help. The senior All-Stater allowed just one hit in her five innings of work, striking out four.
Broomfield finished her day 2-for-2 with five RBI and one run. Pallotta went 3-for-3 with three runs and one RBI. Sophie Morgan scored twice and Dong had two RBI in the win.
Payton Wells had the lone hit for Cranston West.
🥎SOFTBALL – Division II
Portsmouth 6, East Greenwich 4
The Patriots used an Avenger error to take the lead before Kaylyn Aubuchon added insurance the team didn’t need in a 6-4 win.
The game was back-and-forth early, but East Greenwich took a 4-3 on a two-out RBI single by Sarah Levy in the fourth inning. Portsmouth’s bats went quiet, but came alive after opening the bottom of the fifth with two outs.
Emily Bronson hit a single to get things going. An error kept the inning alive and another on a ball hit by Mia Ruggieri allowed two runs to score. Suddenly up 5-4, Aubuchon ripped a single that made it 6-4.
Barbara Rainey had a pair of big hits for Portsmouth and finished the game with two RBI and three runs. Ruggieiri had two RBI and Bronson scored twice.
Four different players score for East Greenwich and Alessandra Falcon had two hits, one run and one RBI in the loss.
🥍BOYS LACROSSE – Division I
Barrington 12, Silver Lake Regional (MA) 11
Four Eagles players − Onson Tieu, Peyton Hillier, Dylan Edwards and Patrick McNamara – scored three goals each as the Eagles edged Silver Lake Regional of Massachusetts.
🥍BOYS LACROSSE – Division II
Portsmouth 20, Cranston West 3
Teddy Gersen scored a game-high 6 goals and added two assists, Rafe Dionne had five goals to go along with two helpers and Joe Sanderson hit the back of the net three times with two assists as the Patriots improved its record to 8-1 as they rolled to victory over the Falcons.
Chase Williams also got on the scoresheet for Portsmouth with a goal and two assists.
For CW, Jack D’Allesandro, Jared Yu and Cameron Macleod each scored a goal in the loss. The Falcons dipped to 0-6 on the season.

Scituate 16, North Providence 2

East Greenwich 17, Lincoln School 2
The Avengers’ stars made sure the result was locked up early and Maddie Asay and Lindsey Ziady made sure there was no comeback in the 17-2 win over the Lynx.
Tessa Charello-Ingegneri and Ava Halvorsen were dominant over the first two quarters, scoring 10 of East Greenwich’s 12 goals. Lincoln School had two on the board and in the second half, the Avengers defense – with Sydney Butterfield in goal in the fourth – made sure there would be no comeback. Goals by Asay and Ziady helped ice the win.
Charello-Ingegneri led EG with six goals and Halvorsen had five. Asay and Ziady both had two, as did Lindsey Rowe.
Maggie McDonald and Annie Lenihan had the goals for Lincoln School.
🥍GIRLS LACROSSE – Division II
Cumberland 17, Middletown 1
Lucy Biggs led the Clippers with six goals, Hadley Henderson had four and Ella Mancuso tacked on three more as Cumberland cruised past the Islanders.
Middletown's Sydney Bogosian scored her teams lone goal, and Lamaya Gonsalves made six saves in the loss.
🥍GIRLS LACROSSE – Division III
Toll Gate 14, Bayview 3
Jenna White scored six goals, Stella Kraus had four tallies and Tate Payne scored twice and dished off three assists as the Titans upended the Bayview Co-op.
Dorothy Karl had two goals for the Co-op in the loss and teammate Sophia DaPonte had the other score.

After losing the first set, the Huskies rallied to take the next three sets and knocked off the Broncos, 23-25, 25-22, 25-7 and 25-22.
For Mt. Hope in the win, Dylan Shaw amassed 25 kills to go along with 3 aces and 1 block, Dylan DeOlivera had 50 assists, 3 Aces, 3 blocks, 15 digs and 1 ace and Matt Moran recorded 10 kills, 2 blocks and 8 digs.
For Burrillville in the loss, Grant Godzwon recorded 10 kills and 34 digs, Cayden Closson had 23 digs, 16 assists and 2 kills and Gus Santos was good for 25 digs, 2 kills and 2 blocks.
Mount Pleasant 3, Achievement First 0
Jordan Robertson recorded 8 kills and 3 aces, Anthony Berroa had 7 kills and Matthew Perrata was good for five kills as the Mount Pleasant swept Achievement First, 25-12, 25-23 and 25-15.
For AF in the loss, Emmanuel Vargas Rodriguez had 6 kills, 4 blocks, 3 aces and 9 digs and Zachareus Desrosiers posted 4 kills, 3 blocks, 4 digs.
North Providence 3, St. Raphael 1
Timileyin Durojaye led the Cougars with 10 kills, Caden Hicks added nine kills and Luca Cardarelli recorded 27 assists in the win (23-25, 25-18, 25-17, 25-19).
For the Saints, Jaymeson Taylor had 11 kills and seven digs, and Miguel Durango- Ramirez had four kills and 14 digs in the loss..
