Hey Plex is gone; Samsung phones will receive Hey Perplexity, CEO confirms
Something unexpected happened for Samsung Galaxy S26 users after the latest software update. Many people noticed that the βHey Plexβ voice command suddenly disappeared from the Perplexity app on their phones. Soon after this change, new information appeared online that explained what might be happening.
Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas has confirmed the reason behind the change. Replying to a user comment online, he said that the wake phrase is being changed. Instead of βHey Plex,β Samsung phones will soon support a new command β βHey Perplexity.β This means the voice activation feature is not being removed completely, but it is simply getting a new name.
The feature allows users to activate the Perplexity AI assistant with their voice. Once the wake phrase is enabled, users can say the command, and the assistant will open instantly, even if the phone screen is off. This makes it easy to ask questions, search for information, or perform quick tasks without touching the device.

Earlier, Samsung introduced this feature in partnership with Perplexity when the Galaxy S26 series launched. The phones came with several AI assistants, including Gemini, Bixby, and Perplexity. Users could choose which assistant they preferred and switch between them through the device settings.
However, after the February 2026 security update, the βHey Plex detectionβ option was removed from the settings. Because of this, the wake phrase stopped working on the Galaxy S26 Ultra, although the assistant can still be opened using the side button.
With the CEO now confirming the change to βHey Perplexity,β the voice wake-up feature is expected to return in a future update for Samsung devices. Stay tuned.
