Samsung is working on a plan to launch its own credit card in the US, teaming up with British bank Barclays, according to a recent report. The new card would run on Visa’s payment network and aims to help Samsung grow its digital payment service, Samsung Wallet.

The company is also exploring other financial products, such as high-yield savings accounts, digital prepaid cards, and “buy now, pay later” (BNPL) options. Some of these could also be developed with Barclays. It lets users automatically transfer cashback earned from the Samsung credit card into a Samsung account.

In South Korea, Samsung Wallet is already widely used thanks to Samsung Pay. But in the United States, it still has a much smaller user base compared to Apple Pay. Samsung hopes that a credit card with special cashback rewards and other benefits will attract more users, boost sales of its products like phones, TVs, and appliances, and build stronger customer loyalty.

WhatsApp has released a new beta update for Android, version 2.25.33.11, through the Google Play Beta Program. This update brings new privacy tools that help users manage messages and control who can contact them.

The update brings a new feature called a Request Folder, which will store messages from people not in your contacts. This means unknown messages won’t appear directly in your main chat list, keeping your inbox organized and clutter-free.

The new privacy setting is called “Who Can Message Me” and has two options – Everyone and My Contacts. Choosing “Everyone” will show all messages in the main chat list, as usual. Choosing “My Contacts” will move messages from unknown senders to the Requests folder.

The Requests folder works like Instagram’s message requests. Users can see the sender’s name, profile picture, and message before deciding to reply, delete, report, or block them. Once a message is replied to, it moves to the main chat list. This feature helps reduce spam and makes it easier to focus on personal conversations.

When username-based communication arrives, messages from people using usernames will also appear first in the Requests folder. This ensures users can verify new contacts before starting a chat.

Obviously, reading reviews on the Google Play Store helps you decide if an app is worth downloading. But finding the right review is not always easy. Right now, you can sort reviews by rating, date, or by preset topics like “performance” or “design.” However, you can’t search for your own keywords, and that can make things frustrating.

Now, it looks like Google is finally working to fix this. In the latest version (v48.7.17-31) of the Play Store app, new code spotted via Assemble Debug hints at a feature that will let users search through reviews.

The code mentions a “Search reviews” option and something called AllReviewsPage__enable_search_bar. These details suggest that Google is building a search bar for the reviews page.

This new tool could make reading reviews much easier. For example, if you want to know if a photo editing app works offline, you could type “offline” in the search bar. You would then see only reviews that mention that word. This would save a lot of time instead of scrolling through hundreds of unrelated comments.

We don’t know yet when Google will officially launch this feature, or even if it will appear soon. The search bar will likely show up near the top of the review section, close to the current filter options.

Samsung is reportedly working on a big upgrade for the face unlock system on its future Galaxy S27 Ultra. According to new information, the company could use a new technology that is much better and more secure than the current one.

Right now, Samsung phones mostly use a 2D image from the selfie camera to unlock the phone with your face. It works fine, but can be fooled and doesn’t always perform well in poor lighting. The new system, called Polar ID, could change that.

A tipster, @SPYGO19726, on X claims that early test software for the Galaxy S27 Ultra mentions “Polar ID v1.0.” It’s said to be a “polarized-light authentication system,” connected to Samsung’s ISOCELL Vizion front sensor and a new security setup known as BIO-Fusion Core.

This new face unlock method might work much faster, around 180 milliseconds, and offer stronger protection against fake faces or photos. It could also recognize users even when they’re wearing sunglasses or masks, and it should work in most lighting conditions.

Still, it’s important to remember that this is only a rumor. The Galaxy S27 Ultra isn’t expected until 2027, so things could easily change before then. For now, Samsung fans can look forward to the Galaxy S26 Ultra, which should launch soon. But if this new Polar ID feature turns out to be real, the Galaxy S27 Ultra could offer one of the fastest and most secure face unlock systems.

Google is working on a new feature for its Messages app called “Insights.” This tool will help you understand shared web links without even opening them. It uses Gemini, Google’s AI helper, to create quick and easy summaries.

When someone sends you a link, you can tap the new Insights button to see what it’s about. Gemini will look at the link’s title, description, and content, then write three short bullet points that explain the most important parts. These points will be simple, clear, and straight to the point.

Gemini will also mention whether it got the information only from the shared link or if it searched the web for extra details. At the end of the summary, it will add one short line as this could be a reminder, safety note, or question, like, “Would you like to know more?” or “Check official sources for updates.”

Google Messages has made a small change that could help a lot of people stay organized. The app now lets you pin up to 20 conversations at the top of your inbox, doubling the previous limit of 10.

Pinned conversations are useful when you don’t want to forget a message or when you want to keep important chats visible. For example, sometimes you get messages that you can’t reply to right away. By pinning them, they stay at the top of your messages list, even if new messages come in.

To pin a conversation, just press and hold the chat and tap the pushpin icon at the top of the screen. This is not the first time Google has increased the pin limit.

When the feature first appeared, users could pin only three conversations. Later, it increased to five, then ten, and now 20. The new limit is available in both the beta version and the regular stable version of Google Messages, so most users should be able to use it now.

Obviously, having 20 pinned chats can also get a little crowded. If you pin too many conversations, new messages may get pushed down, which is exactly what the feature is trying to avoid. It might be a good idea to check your pinned chats and reply to some before adding more.

Google Maps might soon get a new feature that helps you stay cool while walking. Google is currently testing a new “Prefer shade” option in the app. This feature could let users choose walking routes that have more shade, helping them avoid the hot sun while getting to their destination.

The “Prefer shade” option has been found by Android Authority in the latest version (version 25.45.02.826664481) of the Google Maps app for Android. The report says this new tool will work only for walking directions.

Google Maps may even show how many minutes of your walk will be in the sun. The toggle for this feature was seen in the Trip Options menu, but it doesn’t work yet.

It’s not yet clear how Google will figure out which paths are shady or sunny. One idea is that Google could use LiDAR technology, which is already used by its Street View cars. LiDAR can scan streets and buildings to create detailed 3D maps. By combining this with information about the sun’s position and time of day, Google could predict where shade will fall.

Other apps have tried something similar before. In 2018, an app called Parasol offered shaded walking routes using LiDAR and sunlight data. Another app, Cool Walks, used the same idea to map shady streets in Barcelona.

Google Maps is adding new features to make navigation and exploring places easier and more useful. The updates use Google’s Gemini AI to give clearer directions and helpful information about locations.

The new feature is landmark-based navigation. Instead of just saying “turn in 500 feet” or showing traffic lights and stop signs, Maps can now use nearby landmarks to guide you.

For example, it could say, “turn right after the Thai Siam Restaurant,” and highlight that landmark on your map. Google will only use landmarks that are easy to see from the street, so you don’t get confused.

Gemini’s AI looks at Street View images and compares them with Google Maps’ 250 million places to make sure the landmarks are accurate. This feature is rolling out now as the default on Android and iOS in the US.

Samsung has just started clearing up the confusion around the Galaxy S26’s chips, but the Galaxy S27 may make things even more complicated. Early rumors suggest that Qualcomm’s next-generation Snapdragon 8 Gen 6 could come in two versions.

For the S26 series, the Galaxy S26 and S26+ are expected to use Samsung’s Exynos 2600 chip in all regions. However, the Galaxy S26 will reportedly have Exynos in most countries, and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 in some countries, including the US, Japan, and China.

Looking ahead, Qualcomm is reportedly preparing its next flagship chip, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 6, in two versions – Standard and Pro. Both chips will use TSMC’s advanced 2nm process, but the Pro version will likely have a stronger GPU and support faster LPDDR6 RAM.

Notably, the Standard version will probably power regular flagship phones. On the other side, the Pro version will be reserved for ultra-premium devices. This could make things confusing for buyers. For Samsung, it’s unclear if the Galaxy S27 Ultra will get the Pro variant or a slightly customized “for Galaxy” version. It is usually a bit faster but may not support LPDDR6.

Google’s Gemini is about to get a useful update that will make its Deep Research feature even better. New information reveals that Gemini will let you choose where it searches for information, such as Gmail, Google Drive, Chat, or even the web.

Previously, Gemini’s Deep Research could only look through files you uploaded or stored in Google Drive. But a recent APK teardown (via Android Authority) of the Google app for Android shows that you’ll soon be able to pick specific sources for your research.

You can have Gemini search your Gmail inbox for relevant emails or scan all your Google Drive files for documents. This gives you more flexibility and control over what Gemini looks at when gathering information.

A new Sources button will allow you to select which Google services you want Gemini to search. If you don’t want it to search the web, you can turn off that option. This is helpful if you want to avoid information from websites that may not be as reliable.

Samsung has lost a legal battle over OLED display technology and has been ordered to pay $191.4 million as a fine. The case, decided by a jury in Texas, involved two OLED patents owned by a company called Pictiva. The patents relate to improvements in OLED technology, which is used in many of Samsung’s products.

Pictiva, an Irish company, claims that Samsung used its patented technology without permission. These patents, originally developed by a company called OSRAM, were later bought by Pictiva, which is a part of a larger patent firm, Key Patent Innovations. The lawsuit, filed in 2023, argued that Samsung used these OLED improvements to make its products brighter, more energy-efficient, and with better resolution.

Samsung denied the claims, saying the patents were not valid. However, the jury disagreed, finding that Samsung had indeed used two out of five of the patents in the case. After the verdict, Pictiva’s Managing Director, Angela Quinlan, called the decision a strong endorsement of the company’s intellectual property rights.

Even though Samsung lost this case, the company is not giving up. It has said it will appeal the decision and has already started the process of asking the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to cancel the patents involved.

This legal setback is just the latest for Samsung. Last month, the company was also ordered to pay nearly $445.5 million in a separate case about patents related to 4G, 5G, and Wi-Fi technology. With Samsung planning to appeal, the legal battle over these patents is far from over.
