The Philadelphia Phillies came into the offseason a bit uneasy. They were at risk of losing Kyle Schwarber until the two sides agreed to a five-year, $150 million deal.

He chose Philadelphia after receiving offers from the Baltimore Orioles, Cincinnati Reds, and Pittsburgh Pirates

Now, the front office can turn its attention to retaining some more key contributors on the open market. They would love to see J.T. Realmuto back in Philadelphia, as well as Ranger Suarez.

Veteran backstop tagged as 'best fit' for the Phillies this offseason

Pitching and catching will be something the front office focuses on over the next few weeks/months. With not a lot of options for catchers, Bleacher Report's Zachary Rymer suggests that Realmuto is the best fit for the Phillies.

"Dependable everyday catchers don't grow on trees, after all, and least of all on the open market. Realmuto is the best option on this winter's free-agent market by several orders of magnitude, as he was more than twice as valuable than the next-best catcher who's still looking for work."

Plain and simple, there are not many options on the open market. Realmuto leads this class by a wide margin.

Now, that does not mean the team could not go out and look to see what the trade market is looking like. However, that would cost them prospects instead of just money.

Realmuto has taken a step back over the years, but he is still considered a solid catcher. He is also a fan favorite in Philadelphia, making the case for signing him even easier.

This will likely be the club's biggest priority moving forward. Their championship window is closing, and they cannot contend if they don't have a dependable backstop calling the games and keeping balls in front of him.

Grand Slam Getaways to Launch Baseball-Centered Tourism Routes From Atlanta

Grand Slam Getaways to Launch Baseball-Centered Tourism Routes From Atlanta

A new travel-focused company based in Georgia is preparing to enter the sports tourism space with organized road trips built around Major League Baseball travel experiences. Grand Slam Getaways, founded in 2025 and headquartered in Atlanta, is scheduled to begin operations in 2026 with a series of multi-day bus tours designed around visits to multiple MLB ballparks across the United States. Each itinerary is structured to include road games involving Atlanta’s hometown Major League team, combining live sporting events with guided travel and city-based stops.

The tours are planned as group travel experiences departing directly from Atlanta and are intended to appeal to a wide range of travelers, including adults, families, retirees, and baseball-focused tourists from Georgia and the broader Southeastern region. Reservations for the announced trips are currently open through the company’s official website.

Structured Baseball-Themed Travel Routes Departing From Atlanta

The initial rollout of Grand Slam Getaways includes three themed tour itineraries, each departing from Atlanta and following multi-city routes to several MLB stadium destinations. Cities included in the inaugural travel plans are Chicago, New York, Miami, and Pittsburgh. Travel between destinations is planned via motorcoach transportation, with accommodations arranged at hotels along each route.

Each tour is designed to span several days and incorporates attendance at multiple Major League Baseball games. Depending on the selected itinerary, travelers are scheduled to attend between four and six MLB games. A defining element of every tour is the inclusion of at least two games featuring Atlanta’s hometown team playing on the road, allowing participants to follow the team across different ballparks during a single trip.

Game attendance is combined with field-level seating, offering consistent placement across the scheduled matchups. The tours are also planned to include appearances by former Major League players, integrated into the travel experience as scheduled guest interactions.

Travel Experiences Designed Around Sports Tourism

The travel structure emphasizes organized movement between cities, shared transportation, and coordinated scheduling of events. Motorcoach travel is positioned as the primary mode of transportation, allowing travelers to move between destinations as a group while maintaining a consistent itinerary. Hotel accommodations are included as part of each travel package, supporting overnight stays across multiple cities.

Beyond stadium visits, the itineraries incorporate curated city-based experiences aligned with baseball history and sports-related tourism. Stops are scheduled at locations such as the Louisville Slugger Museum and filming sites associated with Bull Durham. These elements are included as part of the overall travel package and are positioned as supplemental experiences alongside game attendance.

Additional on-board and off-field activities are integrated into the tours, including baseball-themed trivia, prize opportunities, and souvenir distribution. These components are designed to foster a shared group atmosphere during transit and downtime between scheduled events.

Tourism-Oriented Group Travel and Shared Experiences

Group-based travel continues to play a role in tourism offerings that prioritize shared interests and coordinated itineraries. Travel experiences structured around a unifying theme, such as professional sports, often emphasize community, scheduling efficiency, and collective participation. In this format, transportation, accommodations, and activities are managed within a single package, reducing the need for individual planning while maintaining a cohesive travel rhythm.

Such travel models frequently appeal to travelers seeking structured experiences where logistics are handled in advance. By centering itineraries around scheduled events and recognizable destinations, tourism offerings can align movement, lodging, and activities into a single travel narrative without requiring independent coordination at each stop.

Within sports-related tourism, this approach allows travelers to experience multiple destinations while remaining focused on a central theme. The combination of transit, event attendance, and city visits becomes a defining characteristic of the journey itself rather than a series of disconnected stops.

Travel Planning Built Around Themed Itineraries

Themed travel itineraries often emphasize continuity and pacing across multiple days. By establishing a clear structure that repeats across destinations, such travel experiences can maintain consistency while still offering variety through different locations and events. Multi-day tours frequently balance scheduled activities with transit time, creating a predictable flow for travelers.

In this context, baseball-centered travel functions as both the organizing principle and the connective element between destinations. Stadium visits, city stops, and travel segments are arranged to follow a defined sequence, allowing participants to move through the itinerary without the need for separate bookings or scheduling decisions.

For travelers interested in combining live events with destination travel, themed tours offer a framework where each component supports the next. Transportation, accommodations, and activities are interconnected, reinforcing the overall structure of the journey while maintaining a steady progression from one stop to another.

Package Inclusions and Reservation Availability

Grand Slam Getaways packages are structured to include transportation, lodging, game tickets, and scheduled activities under a single booking. Each tour includes motorcoach travel departing from Atlanta, hotel accommodations along the route, and tickets to multiple MLB games with field-level seating. Appearances by former Major League players are incorporated into the itineraries, along with organized activities such as trivia contests and souvenir distribution.

Side trips to baseball-related attractions, including the Louisville Slugger Museum and Bull Durham filming locations, are included as part of the curated travel experience. These stops are integrated into the travel schedule rather than offered as optional add-ons.

Reservations for the announced tours are currently available. Travelers can secure participation by booking directly through the company’s official website, with trips scheduled to begin operating in 2026.

Company Background and Operational Focus

Founded in 2025, Grand Slam Getaways operates as an Atlanta-based tour company focused on baseball-centered travel experiences. The company’s offerings are structured around multi-day bus tours that combine Major League Baseball attendance with organized travel across multiple U.S. cities. Emphasis is placed on comfort, coordinated scheduling, and shared travel experiences built around iconic ballparks and road games involving Atlanta’s hometown team.

The company positions its travel packages within the broader tourism sector by integrating transportation, accommodations, and event access into a single format. By centering itineraries on baseball travel and city-based stops, the tours are designed to highlight stadium visits while maintaining a structured group travel environment.

Tyler Skaggs trial heading to jury with conclusion of closing arguments

The Tyler Skaggs wrongful death civil lawsuit thundered toward a conclusion Monday, Dec. 15, with lawyers for the deceased pitcher and the Los Angeles Angels' legal team presenting their closing arguments.

Sometime Tuesday, Dec. 16, arguments and rebuttals will conclude and the jury will begin deliberations, tasked with determining whether the Angels knew or should have known their former communications director was providing opioids to Skaggs and other players, including the fentanyl-laced oxycodone pill that resulted in the pitcher's death on July 1, 2019.

Eric Kay is serving a 22-year term in federal prison, and the Skaggs family is seeking $118 million in lost earnings and other damages in this civil trial.

Closing arguments lasted nearly four hours Dec. 15, The Athletic reported, with Skaggs family attorney Daniel Dutko accusing the Angels of "gaslighting" the jury.

"It's trying to convince you of something that isn't true," he said.

At issue is whether Kay's distribution of opioids to Angels players fell within the scope of his regular duties as Angels communications director, with Skaggs attorneys arguing that Kay performed myriad tasks for the players, arranging tickets to sporting events, purchasing Viagra for one player and arranging massages and other appointments.

The Angels contend that Skaggs, who fought a Percocet addiction as an Arizona Diamondback before he was acquired by the Angels in 2013, was the ringleader of a group of Angels players who abused Oxycodone and other opioids.

Lead attorney Todd Theodora contended Skaggs made other Angels players aware that Kay could provide pills, that the Angels handled Kay properly by facilitating his treatment for opioid addiction earlier in 2019, his recovery threatened by Skaggs continuing to ask him for pills.

"What you see here is a classic double standard," Thedora argued.

The final weeks of the trial, now stretching toward its second month, was marked by squabbles over Skaggs' potential future earnings. The Angels deployed former major league general manager Dan Duquette to contend that Skaggs' earnings potential was between zero and $50 million.

Skaggs was exactly halfway to his finest season as a pitcher, on track to make 30 starts and pitch a career-high 160 innings at the time of his death. As a left-handed starter, he would have always been a rare commodity on the free agent market.

The virtually impossible task of determining such value – and the risk for both sides of a massive jury award or nothing – creates the possibility of a settlement before the jury returns a verdict. A civil trial requires just eight of 12 jurors to agree on a verdict, and unlike a criminal trial, not needing to meet the standard of beyond a reasonable doubt.

Rob Zerjav has been named the Minor League Baseball High-A executive of the year for the 2025 season.

Zerjav, president of the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, received the award during MLB's winter meetings in Orlando, Florida, recently.

He has been a member of Wisconsin’s front office since 1997 and became president and general manager of the Rattlers after the 2002 season.

“Rob’s creativity, drive for success and commitment to making every fan’s experience the absolute best has created a top-notch culture within our organization and been the key to the team’s growth and success,” Timber Rattlers vice president of business operations Ryan Moede said in a news release.

In 2025, the Timber Rattlers had an attendance of over 236,000, the highest attendance for a season since 2016.

All revenue sectors from merchandise sales in the Snake Pit Team Store to corporate sales to special events also followed the upward trend set by ticket sales.

“This recognition is very nice, personally, but a real testament to the complete Timber Rattlers organization,” Zerjav said. “We have so many talented, creative and dedicated individuals that truly believe in our mission and I feel so fortunate to work with all of them on a daily basis.”

Baseball America named Zerjav its Minor League Baseball executive of the year after the 2023 season. He also won the Midwest League’s executive of the year in 2007, 2012 and 2018.

New Arizona Diamondbacks executive tasked with improving pitching

After a six-year run in Pittsburgh during which he helped the Pirates quietly turn into one of baseball’s better pitching development organizations, Jeremy Bleich is tasked with trying to do the same for the Diamondbacks.

Bleich, 38, was hired last week to be the Diamondbacks’ third assistant general manager. He will oversee the club’s pitching development infrastructure. He had held the title of director of pitching with the Pirates in a role in which he helped streamline their processes from the major leagues down to the lowest levels of the minors while also aiding in player acquisitions.

For Diamondbacks general manager Mike Hazen, the hiring is part of a strategy to get the club’s pitching in line with its position player development.

“We just haven’t been happy with the way the overall pitching infrastructure has gone,” Hazen said. “The results, certainly, at the major league level speak to that. I want to be realistic about the things we’ve done and haven’t done as well and that’s one of those areas where I feel like we haven’t done as good of a job in.

"Devoting somebody that’s going to oversee all of our pitching processes — acquisition and development — we felt like was a huge priority.”

Bleich comes with a good reputation, Hazen said, and stood out from other candidates during the interview process as the best fit for the job. A source with the Pirates gushed about him, saying Bleich was “great at simplifying ways forward” and managed to get the organization’s pitching group “all pulling rope in the same direction.”

Bleich spoke highly of the people the Diamondbacks already have in the organization and said one of his first goals will be to establish an “organizational-wide pitching identity” that he wants to look something like “a relentless pursuit of the strike zone with our best stuff.”

“It can be simple; it can be direct,” Bleich said. “We want to try to lean into, when you face the Diamondbacks, through gameplay, people know what we stand for and what we’re striving for daily. What are the non-negotiables?”

Bleich went through ups and downs during his playing career. He was selected 44th overall by the New York Yankees in 2008 and was that organization’s ninth-ranked prospect, per Baseball America in 2010. But it wasn’t until 2018, at which time he was on his fifth organization and had made two stops in independent ball, that he finally made his major league debut.

He made just two appearances for the Oakland Athletics, then retired after the 2019 season.

Pittsburgh Pirates executive and former scout Jeremy Bleich throws out a ceremonial first pitch before the Pirates play the Milwaukee Brewers at PNC Park on Aug. 21, 2021. The Diamondbacks have hired Bleich to overhaul the organization's pitching development.

Thinking back, Bleich recalled times when he was considered a prospect that coaches mostly left him alone. Other times, he felt like he didn’t matter. He wants to do what he can to give every player what he needs to achieve his dream of pitching in the majors.

“How are we giving each guy the most resources, the most chances to do that?” Bleich said. “There are times it was rough and lonely. I felt like wanted direction and I wanted clarity. I wanted to be challenged. I want to give that back.

"Maybe it’s giving a player something he doesn’t feel (he is receiving) at the time that can help them chase their ultimate goal.”

Hazen said Bleich would oversee pitching at all levels from the major leagues down. Bleich will also aid in acquisitions, both on the professional (trades, free agents, waivers) and amateur sides.

As far as the draft goes, he praised the Pirates’ ability to draft and develop high school arms into big-league starters — right-handers Jared Jones, Bubba Chandler and Braxton Ashcraft are recent examples — and said he would like to see the Diamondbacks be more active in that demographic.

“We don’t have a lot of wins in that area,” Hazen said. “It is a very fertile area to get upper-level talent starting pitchers and we should be shopping in that area a little bit more. This is going to help with that. They (the Pirates) do that consistently and have consistently landed those guys.

"I think he’s going to add a lot of process and programmatic experience to how the entire operation (unfolds).”

The Diamondbacks have done well developing everything from star-caliber to useful position players during Hazen’s tenure. The results on the pitching side have been more hit and miss — and those misses have contributed heavily to the club missing the postseason the past two seasons.

“I think we have a lot of smart people, hard-working people who are very knowledgeable,” Hazen said. “I feel like with the transitions we’ve had with all the different major league pitching coaches and regimes and philosophies, we have not done as good of a job systematically, philosophically, on the pitching side as we’ve done on the hitting side.

“I feel like if we can match up what we do on the hitting side with the pitching side, we’ll be in a good spot. That’s what (Bleich) is going to be charged with doing.”

After free agency deals, will Diamondbacks still deal Marte?

Though the Diamondbacks’ agreement this week with free-agent right-hander Merrill Kelly gives them five established starting pitchers, it does not change the likelihood the club deals second baseman Ketel Marte, according to a club source.

Marte could still bring back high-end starting pitching, something the organization does not have in bunches in its minor-league system.

Once his deal is official, Kelly will join a rotation that also includes the recently signed Michael Soroka, right-handers Ryne Nelson and Brandon Pfaadt and left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez.

Of those five, only Kelly and Nelson are seen as safe bets to be both durable and effective. Pfaadt and Rodriguez are both coming off years in which they posted ERAs north of 5.00. Soroka wasn’t much better with a 4.52 ERA — and he has a checkered history when it comes to injuries.

The Diamondbacks’ front office likes its collection of young starters in the upper minors, but many of those arms either have yet to debut or have limited big-league experience. The club would prefer not to have to rush those pitchers to the majors early in the season.

The Athletic reported this week the teams on Marte’s five-team no-trade list: the Athletics, Giants, Pirates, Yankees and Cardinals.

Another thing that remains to be seen following the Kelly signing is how much financial flexibility the Diamondbacks have remaining — and whether it will keep them from being active in the relief market.

Following the signings of Kelly and Soroka, the Diamondbacks’ payroll sits at an estimated $171 million, per FanGraphs’ Roster Resource.

Kelly’s contract includes vesting option

Kelly’s two-year, $40 million deal includes a vesting option for 2028, a source said.

If Kelly reaches 170 innings pitched in 2027, it will trigger a $12 million guarantee for 2028. If he hits 185 innings, the guarantee grows to $14 million.

According to The Athletic, Kelly turned down a three-year offer in excess of $50 million to take the Diamondbacks’ offer.

Braves' $2 million gamble pays off after long-awaited $20M contract decision on Gold Glove winner

Braves' $2 million gamble pays off after long-awaited $20M contract decision on Gold Glove winner originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.

Last season, the Atlanta Braves brought in Ha-Seong Kim off waivers after Nick Allen’s production at shortstop began to decline. The move was initially intended to see if Kim could perform well enough over a month-long trial to justify a longer-term role. However, Kim’s performance was so strong that testing free agency became the better option, putting the Braves in a familiar tough situation.

“Because of this thin market, that would incentivise Kim to test the market. For that same reason, it’s even more important that the Braves find a way to retain his services,” wrote SI’s Harrison Smajovits. “If he opts out and signs elsewhere, they could be back to square one with this dilemma. The offense has had its struggles as is, and they have, at least for now, figured out one of the issues.”

On Monday, the Braves successfully brought Kim back to Atlanta on a one-year contract.

“Shortstop Ha-Seong Kim is returning to the Atlanta Braves, agreeing Monday to a one-year, $20 million contract that addressed a major offseason priority for the team. Kim gets a $4 million raise. He had declined a $16 million player option that was in the two-year, $29 million contract he signed in February with Tampa Bay, a deal that paid him $13 million. The Braves announced the new deal with Kim on Monday night,” ESPN reported.

The Braves’ $2 million gamble has now turned into their everyday shortstop for the 2026 season.

“Atlanta took a $2 million gamble by trading for him at the trade deadline and it pays off as they re-acquire their starting shortstop,” USA Today’s Bob Nightengale wrote.

Kim provides exactly what the Braves have been lacking at the shortstop position over the past few years: a strong bat. He is also a Gold Glove winner, which adds defensive value.

He is an ideal fit for Braves GM Alex Anthopoulos. Kim is aiming for a fully healthy season and hopes to prove himself for next winter as well. While this is only a one-year investment, it wouldn’t be surprising if Atlanta extended him should he have a productive year.

Yuri Vernidub: “Neftçi” 8-ci yerdə olmamalıdır”

“Neftçi”nin baş məşqçisi Yuri Vernidub Azərbaycan Premyer Liqasının 15-ci turunda “Sumqayıt”a qarşı keçirdikləri oyunu şərh edib.

Eybi yox. Qarşıda “Karvan”la oyunumuz var. Həmin matçdan sonra təlim-məşq toplanışına gedəcəyik. Orada komandanı daha yaxşı hazırlamaq şansımız olacaq. Yaxşı komandamız var. Futbolçuların sürəti, topla davranışı, texnikaları yaxşıdır. Sadəcə, düzəlməli olan 1-2 məqam var. Bunlardan biri intizamın yaxşılaşdırılması, digəri isə fiziki gücün artırılması olmalıdır. “Neftçi”nin daha yüksək səviyyələrə qalxması üçün əlimizdən gələn və gəlməyən hər şeyi edəcəyik. Bu klubu Ukraynada “Dinamo” və “Şaxtyor”la müqayisə edirəm. “Neftçi” tarixi klubdur, Azərbaycan üçün brenddir”.

Yuri Vernidub hədəflərini açıqladı

Yuri Vernidub “Neftçi”dəki hədəflərindən də söhbət açıb:

“Qarşımıza böyük hədəflər qoymuşuq. Klub rəhbərliyinin məndən nələr tələb etdiyini bilirəm. İndi nəsə demək çətindir. Zaman göstərəcək. Bugünkü 65-70 dəqiqədəki kimi oyu sərgiləsək, yaxşı nəticələr əldə edə bilərik. Nə qədər çətin hədəflər olsa da, onlara çatmaq üçün əlimdən gələni edəcəyəm. Avrokuboklara vəsiqə qazanmaq üçün nə qədər irəli getməli olduğumuzu bilirəm. Amma futbolda hər şey ola bilər. Buna inanıram. İnanmasam, bura gəlməzdim.

Hazırda komandada olanlar pis oyunçular deyillər, amma yüksək yerlərə qalxmaq istəyiriksə, mütləq şəkildə heyəti gücləndirməyə ehtiyac olacaq. Klub rəhbərliyi ilə danışıb axtarışlara başlayacağıq. Elə etməliyik ki, bir-birini əvəzləyə biləcək eyni səviyyədə iki oyunçu olsun. Vaxt da azdır. Dekabrın 20-də sonuncu oyunumuzdur. Yanvarın 23-də isə yeni ilin ilk matçına çıxacağıq. Cəmi 1 ay vaxtımız var. Ən azından indi futbolçuları tanıyıram, kimin nə bacardığını bilirəm. Bu, çox önəmlidir. Onların üzərində işləmək daha məntiqlidir, nəinki bütün heyəti dəyişmək. O mövqeyi tutsaq, gərək hər yarım ildə yeni komanda quraq. Bu da effekt verməyəcək”.

“Mən sehrbaz deyiləm”

Braves' manager Walt Weiss delivers fiery message to fans after Brian Snitker era, playoffs missed

Braves' manager Walt Weiss delivers fiery message to fans after Brian Snitker era, playoffs missed originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.

The Atlanta Braves said goodbye to Brian Snitker at the end of the regular season, which was surprising given the sense that he would want to finish on a higher note. As usual, Braves GM Alex Anthopoulos turned to a familiar face, hiring Walt Weiss, who has been involved with the organization for some time.

“The Atlanta Braves hired Walt Weiss as manager Monday, turning to their longtime bench coach in hopes of a turnaround after they missed the playoffs for the first time in seven years. Weiss, 61, managed the Colorado Rockies from 2013 to 2016, going 283-365 and never finishing higher than third place. He inherits a talented Braves team that finished 76-86 and was ravaged by injuries,” ESPN’s Jeff Passan wrote.

The additions to Weiss’ staff are younger than usual, signaling a possible shift in direction. While the assistants are relatively young, they are notable names with impressive track records.

“The recent additions to Walt Weiss' Braves coaching staff bring a much younger dynamic than any Atlanta coaching staff in recent memory. Jeremy Hefner turns 40 in March, while Antoan Richardson is 42. Tony Mansolino and J.P. Martinez are both 43,” Braves reporter Grant McAuley posted.

Weiss is stepping into his first managerial role since leading the Rockies. However, being familiar with the Braves organization and its roster gives him confidence and enthusiasm to get started.

“I’ve never been more ready to do this in my baseball career,” Weiss said, reflecting on his second chance to manage.

He knows the Braves are eager to return to the postseason after missing it last season, and he recognizes the challenges ahead, particularly in a tough division that includes the Philadelphia Phillies.

Still, Weiss’ excitement should energize Braves fans. He is ready to get started, and there seems to be a new buzz surrounding Atlanta baseball.

“Mən sehrbaz deyiləm” – Vernidub

“Neftçi”nin baş məşqçisi Yuri Vernidub Azərbaycan Premyer Liqasının 15-ci turu çərçivəsində “Sumqayıt”a qarşı keçirdikləri oyun haqda danışıb.

Rəhbərliyin tələblərini bilirəm. Həyat göstərəcək necə olacaq.

Blue Jays predicted to lose Bo Bichette to $208 million deal with AL Contender

Blue Jays predicted to lose Bo Bichette to $208 million deal with AL Contender originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.

During the 2025 MLB season, the Toronto Blue Jays got to somewhat see life without Bo Bichette.

Bichette went down with an injury toward the back end of the season and missed much of the playoffs, but the Blue Jays really didn’t miss a beat.

They had multiple players step up in his absence, which might make them more comfortable letting Bichette walk.

When predicting what might happen, Ryan Finkelstein of Just Baseball believes that will be the case, projecting Bichette to sign an eight-year, $208 million deal with the Detroit Tigers.

“Bo Bichette was very close to being an all-time World Series hero for the Blue Jays, hitting an early three-run homer in Game 7 that had Toronto in line to win it all. Now, the Blue Jays have to decide if that was Bichette’s last game played in their uniform...

“With Bichette out, the Blue Jays shifted Andres Gimenez from second base over to shortstop. Throughout the playoff run, Gimenez proved to be critical to the Blue Jays with his defense up the middle, which is clearly his biggest asset to the team moving forward,” he wrote.

While the idea of the Tigers signing a player of Bichette’s caliber makes plenty of sense, given he’s a right-handed bat and fills an infield need, it’s still tough to imagine Detroit giving out nearly $30 million AAV over eight seasons.

If anything, it seems more likely Toronto retains him than Detroit handing out that contract.

Phillies 2026 lineup projection after $10 million Adolis Garcia contract

Phillies 2026 lineup projection after $10 million Adolis Garcia contract originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.

The Philadelphia Phillies needed to re-sign Kyle Schwarber this winter, and after a $150 million five-year deal, the next steps for Dave Dombrowski and company were adding to the outfield and resolving their catcher issue.

While the catcher spot takes a backseat, according to Francys Romero of beisbolfr.com, the Phillies have signed former Texas Rangers outfielder Adolis Garcia to a $10 million, one-year deal.

With Garcia now in the fold for the outfield and likely taking over for Nick Castellanos in right field, how does the Phillies' projected lineup look for the 2026 season?

Phillies 2026 projected lineup after Adolis Garcia's addition

Other than bringing Schwarber back and signing Garcia, the Phillies' lineup will remain mostly the same from a year ago.

Trea Turner, SS
Kyle Schwarber, DH
Bryce Harper, 1B
Adolis Garcia, RF
Brandon Marsh, LF
Alec Bohm, 3B
Justin Crawford, CF
Bryson Stott, 2B
Rafael Marchan, C

This is not likely to be the Opening Day lineup, as the catcher spot and potentially a few other areas of the roster could be changing from now until the start of the year.

But the addition of Garcia, a power-hitting right fielder with strong defense, gives the Phillies a potential new cleanup option. While Alec Bohm has taken over that role the last few seasons, his lack of pop has made the lineup stagnate after the top three hitters.

Garcia, who hit 39 home runs in 2023 and is a better power-hitter than Bohm, could provide the slug at the cleanup spot the Phillies have been lacking in years past.

MoreRangers' JT Realmuto free agent rumor is good news for Phillies

While he took a step back in 2025, hitting just 19 home runs and slugging just .394, Garcia could turn things around in Philadelphia and get back to his .508 slugging 2023 season.

But, even if he can't return to form, he's still a quality addition to the lineup from the right side of the plate, and is a massive upgrade over Castellanos defensively in right.

This projected lineup is going to change over the next few months before the 2026 season begins, as the Phillies will look to add a catcher and could even replace Marsh, Bohm, or Stott, depending on the available players for trade or in free agency.

Kempinski Hotel Brazzaville Opens, Marking a New Era of Luxury Tourism in the Republic of Congo and Elevating Brazzaville as a Regional Business Hub

A historical moment occurred last week in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo, with the launch of Kempinski Hotel Brazzaville, which is considered the first dedicated luxury hotel in this country. This major project is bound to bring Brazzaville to prominence among luxury tourist hubs in Central Africa. With this launch, it is considered a major milestone since it is the first-ever Kempinski hotel in Africa since the launch of the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City Accra in 2015.

Designed by a Saudi Arabia company named Al Othman Holding, this hotel is a perfect blend of state-of-the-art architecture, international standards of service, and an emphasis on local culture. With a combination of European style and local culture in Congo, this hotel, named Kempinski Hotel Brazzaville, will soon become a major tourist hub in a city quickly becoming a tourist destination.

A Cultural Fusion That Enhances Brazzaville’s Tourism Appeal

The opening ceremony was more than just a ribbon-cutting event; it was a celebration of the cultural fusion that Kempinski Hotel Brazzaville brings to the region. With a Congolese folkloric troupe performing at the event, the ceremony seamlessly blended local cultural traditions with the hotel’s European-inspired luxury, symbolizing the integration of local culture with international hospitality standards. This harmonious blend is expected to enhance Brazzaville’s appeal to a wide range of tourists, from cultural explorers to business travelers.

With this opening, Brazzaville is becoming an increasingly attractive destination for international visitors, particularly those from Europe and Africa. The presence of a world-renowned brand like Kempinski in the city is expected to serve as a magnet for luxury travelers, further boosting the city’s growing reputation as an ideal location for high-end tourism.

Luxury Hospitality Elevates Brazzaville’s Tourism Infrastructure

The introduction of Kempinski Hotel Brazzaville into the local market is not just a victory for luxury hospitality but also a major step in the development of tourism infrastructure in the Republic of Congo. As Brazzaville becomes an increasingly important business hub for international diplomacy and commerce, the need for high-quality hospitality has surged. This hotel addresses this demand by providing a luxurious space for business conferences, state events, and leisure travelers, all while offering world-class amenities.

The hotel’s event spaces, including a ballroom that can accommodate up to 600 guests, position it as a key venue for international conferences and private celebrations. Its meeting rooms, named after local African woods, celebrate the Republic of Congo’s rich ecology and provide a perfect setting for both business and cultural gatherings. These facilities are likely to attract global corporations, NGOs, and government delegations, further bolstering Brazzaville’s reputation as a key regional destination for conferences and high-level events.

Boosting Local Tourism Through Job Creation and Economic Growth

The opening of Kempinski Hotel Brazzaville is expected to have a substantial economic impact on Brazzaville’s tourism sector. By attracting international visitors, the hotel will drive tourism-related job creation in the city. This includes positions in the hospitality industry, such as hotel staff, tour guides, and event planners, as well as opportunities in local businesses catering to the needs of the hotel’s guests.

In addition, the hotel’s high-end offerings will contribute to a growth in tourism revenue, with international guests spending on accommodation, dining, shopping, and local tours. The presence of Kempinski will also encourage further investments in the tourism infrastructure, as Brazzaville positions itself as a luxury destination for both regional and global travelers.

Enhancing Brazzaville’s Profile as a Regional Tourism Hub

As Brazzaville continues to grow as a regional business and diplomatic hub, the opening of Kempinski Hotel Brazzaville will elevate the city’s status as a key tourism destination in Central Africa. The hotel is strategically located along Avenue Amílcar Cabral, with panoramic views of the Congo River, making it a prime location for both business and leisure visitors. The hotel’s luxury amenities, including spa services, fitness centers, and fine dining, will attract high-end tourists seeking a top-tier experience in an increasingly cosmopolitan city.

Moreover, the Kempinski brand’s reputation for offering unmatched hospitality will likely serve as a catalyst for other luxury hotel chains to consider expansion into the region, further enhancing Brazzaville’s tourism infrastructure and solidifying its position as a rising star in Africa’s hospitality scene.

A Sustainable Future for Brazzaville’s Tourism Industry

Looking forward, Kempinski Hotel Brazzaville will have a major impact on Brazzaville in terms of the tourism industry. With the development of the tourist infrastructure in this country, this hotel will prove to be a major pull factor in terms of attracting high-end tourists and will also serve to create revenue-building opportunities in the local economy. The blend of local culture with European standards will make Brazzaville an important hub in tourism in Central Africa.

The future of Brazzaville’s tourism sector appears bright, with Kempinski Hotel Brazzaville leading by example in how to grow a tourist sector in a manner that is environmentally, socially, and financially sustainable. Brazzaville will soon become a tourist destination in Central Africa which all tourists will dream of when they want a mix of luxury, culture, and comfort.

Hohhot Shengle International Airport Positioned As Key Node In China’s Belt And Road Initiative With Ambitious Growth Projections For 2030 And Beyond

Hohhot Shengle International Airport Positioned As Key Node In China’s Belt And Road Initiative With Ambitious Growth Projections For 2030 And Beyond
Hohhot Shengle International Airport,
China’s

Hohhot Shengle International Airport is strategically positioned as a key node in China’s Belt and Road Initiative, enhancing the region’s connectivity with key global markets. With its modern infrastructure, the airport will facilitate the movement of passengers and business across China, Mongolia, and beyond. By 2030, it is projected to handle 28 million passengers annually, with growth expected to reach 65 million by 2050, reflecting its crucial role in supporting the Belt and Road’s ambition to connect Northern China with Europe and Eurasia. This expansion highlights the airport’s increasing importance as a major player in global trade and international aviation.

Hohhot Shengle International Airport is making significant strides as Inner Mongolia’s first 4F-class airport, marking a pivotal moment in the region’s infrastructure development. Following the successful on-site verification test flight on November 25, the airport is now transitioning from construction to its final stages of preparation. This landmark development places Shengle International Airport at the forefront of regional and international aviation, signaling Hohhot’s growing importance in the global travel and logistics network.

As a key component of the Belt and Road Initiative, the airport is poised to enhance Hohhot’s connectivity with both domestic and international markets. Its strategic location positions it as a central node in the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei region, and its status as a Class I international aviation port allows it to cater to the world’s most advanced commercial aircraft, making it a critical hub for both air travel movement.

A Historical Crossroads with Modern Vision

Hohhot’s geographic location has long made it a key crossroads for trade and communication, dating back to ancient times. The city was strategically placed along the historic Grassland Silk Road, which connected China with Mongolia and Russia. This route played a significant role in facilitating cultural and economic exchange between the East and the West.

The historic importance of Hohhot continues to shape the region’s development today. The city’s connection to the ancient Tea Road, which spanned 13,000 kilometers and passed through Hohhot between the 17th and early 20th centuries, underscores its long-standing role in international trade. In modern times, Shengle International Airport seeks to revive this legacy by positioning itself as a critical link between China’s northern frontier and Eurasia, including Europe.

Through its Air Silk Road strategy, Shengle International Airport is effectively bridging the past with the future, making the city a central part of the ongoing integration of China with the rest of the world. As a vital part of the China–Mongolia–Russia economic corridor, the airport is expected to stimulate economic growth, enhance regional integration, and serve as a gateway for tourists, business travelers, and goods alike.

A Design Rooted in Regional Identity

The architectural design of Shengle International Airport draws inspiration from the region’s rich cultural heritage. The terminal’s distinctive saddle-shaped roof is a nod to the region’s horse-riding tradition, a central aspect of Mongolian culture. The main façade is defined by a 600-meter eave, which is inspired by the flowing khata scarf, symbolizing warmth and hospitality. This design element reflects the region’s deep cultural identity while offering a contemporary and functional space for travelers.

Inside the terminal, skylights are supported by spindle columns and cables, resembling the structure of a traditional Mongolian yurt. These design features not only enhance the passenger experience but also serve as a visual reminder of the region’s nomadic past. By blending cultural symbolism with modern infrastructure, Shengle International Airport stands as a unique and dynamic space, representing both the city’s heritage and its future aspirations.

Strategic Capacity and Growth Outlook

In the short term, Shengle International Airport is set to handle impressive passenger volumes. By 2030, the airport is projected to accommodate 28 million passengers annually . The airport’s capacity will continue to grow, with long-term projections estimating 65 million passengers annually by 2050. Additionally, the airport is expected to handle more than half a million aircraft movements annually, further establishing it as a vital hub in the region.

These ambitious capacity targets reflect the airport’s significant role in the broader Air Silk Road framework, connecting China’s northern regions with other parts of the world. This growth will not only cater to the increasing demand for travel and trade but will also bolster Hohhot’s position as a key player in global logistics and tourism.

Seamless Connectivity with Digital Infrastructure

Shengle International Airport’s digital infrastructure has been designed to support seamless connectivity for passengers and businesses. Civil communication facilities were completed ahead of the airport’s opening, ensuring that all three major telecom operators can share a jointly built network. This infrastructure will allow for uninterrupted connectivity from arrival to departure, enhancing the travel experience for both domestic and international visitors.

The airport’s focus on technology-driven solutions ensures that passengers can stay connected throughout their journey, whether for business or leisure. This emphasis on digital infrastructure aligns with the airport’s broader vision of becoming a leading gateway for international travel.

Expanding Regional and International Routes

Looking ahead, Shengle International Airport has ambitious plans to expand its route network, both domestically and internationally. The airport is set to partner with major airports in China, including Xi’an and Qingdao, to create new transfer services. These partnerships will enhance connectivity to key regions such as Japan, South Korea, Central Asia, and Southeast Asia, allowing passengers to easily transit through Hohhot to a wider array of destinations.

In addition to these international routes, Shengle International Airport will strengthen its connections to regional cities in China, as well as neighboring countries like Russia and Mongolia. These new services will foster greater economic exchange and cultural ties between the region and the world, further solidifying Shengle’s role as a critical node in China’s Air Silk Road strategy.

A New Gateway for Hohhot and Beyond

Shengle International Airport represents more than just a new infrastructure project; it is a symbol of Hohhot’s growing significance on the world stage. As a regional aviation hub and a key player in China’s Belt and Road Initiative, the airport is set to drive economic growth, enhance cultural exchange, and improve connectivity for travelers, businesses, and freight alike.

With its world-class facilities, strategic location, and long-term growth projections, Shengle International Airport is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Hohhot and the surrounding region. It is not just an airport; it is a gateway to a new era of connectivity and opportunity.

Former Red Sox pitcher changes plans on retirement for 2026 MLB season

Former Red Sox pitcher changes plans on retirement for 2026 MLB season originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.

Chris Martin was expected to retire at the end of the 2025 MLB season.

Instead, he looks like he'll be back in 2026, according to a report from MassLive's Chris Cotillo.

Cotillo added that the Red Sox would be interested in bringing Martin back after he spent time in Boston in both 2023 and 2024.

After those two seasons with the Red Sox, Martin went to the Texas Rangers on a $5.5 million contract in 2025.

He was great, putting up a 2.98 ERA in 42.1 innings pitched out of the bullpen.

Martin went on the Injured List multiple times, though -- for right shoulder fatigue, a left calf strain, and a thoracic outlet syndrome diagnosis in September.

He'll turn 40 in June, so Martin's days have to be numbered. Apparently, though, he doesn't want to hang the spikes up yet.

Martin entered pro baseball originally as a 21st-round pick of the Colorado Rockies in 2005 out of McLennan Community College.

He has pitched for the Rockies, Yankees, Rangers, Braves, Cubs, Dodgers, Red Sox and Rangers again, in addition to a stint in Japan.

Martin has a career 3.33 ERA in 418 MLB appearances. And it sounds like he'll be getting on a big league mound again in 2026.

Mets sign 3.99 ERA pitcher to free agent contract

Mets sign 3.99 ERA pitcher to free agent contract originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.

The New York Mets added some interesting pitching depth via free agency this weekend.

They've signed a right-handed pitcher named Daniel Duarte to a contract.

The signing was reported on MLB.com's transactions page, with it noted first by MLB Trade Rumors.

Duarte didn't pitch at all in 2025 in the Minnesota Twins organization as he recovered from 2024 Tommy John surgery.

He has thrown 38.1 innings in his MLB career, mostly with the Cincinnati Reds in 2023.

In that small sample size, Duarte has a 3.99 ERA as a groundball pitcher.

MORE: Christian Yelich shows his puppy a proper appreciation of Tavon Austin

Duarte did help his cause by getting back on the mound in the Mexican Winter League, where he has thrown 19.2 scoreless innings.

He's 29 years old, so there's still time for him to make a solid impact at the MLB level if Duarte's stuff has hung in there as he recovered from elbow surgery.

The Mets seem likely to start Duarte at Triple-A Syracuse, but they often need extra arms, so it wouldn't be surprising to see him spend at least a portion of the 2026 season in Queens, too.

It's a good opportunity for Duarte to show he still belongs at the upper levels of baseball after dealing with the serious injury. He'll arrive at spring training looking to prove himself.

Flydubai Expands Routes to Latvia: New Direct Flights from Dubai to Riga Set to Strengthen Tourism and Business Connections

Flydubai Expands Routes to Latvia: New Direct Flights from Dubai to Riga Set to Strengthen Tourism and Business Connections
Flydubai launches direct flights from Dubai to Riga, becoming the first UAE airline to serve Latvia’s capital. The route promises to boost tourism and trade between both regions.

In a significant move to bolster connectivity between the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the Baltic region, Flydubai has inaugurated its three-weekly direct flights between Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Riga International Airport (RIX). The service marks a historic milestone as Flydubai becomes the first UAE carrier to offer nonstop flights to Latvia’s capital, opening up a new gateway for both tourism and business between the two countries.

The new route not only strengthens Flydubai’s extensive European network but also highlights the growing importance of Latvia as a rising destination for both leisure and corporate travelers. Flydubai’s commitment to expanding its reach in the Baltic region is evident with this new addition, joining earlier expansions to destinations like Vilnius in Lithuania.

A Bold Step for UAE–Latvia Connections

The launch of direct flights from Dubai to Riga brings together two key global hubs: Dubai, a city known for its business-friendly environment, world-class attractions, and strategic location, and Riga, a vibrant cultural and economic center in the heart of the Baltic States. Flydubai’s new route opens up possibilities for travelers seeking to explore Latvia’s rich history, scenic landscapes, and charming medieval architecture.

For tourists from the UAE and wider Gulf region, the direct flight makes it easier than ever to experience Riga’s famed Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site, or the stunning landscapes of Latvia’s national parks. Whether it’s a romantic city break, a cultural exploration, or a business trip, this new route caters to a growing demand for connections to the Baltic countries.

At the same time, Latvian travelers now have seamless access to Dubai’s luxury shopping, innovative experiences, and endless opportunities in trade and investment. The move is expected to foster greater collaboration in the tourism, trade, and technology sectors between the UAE and Latvia, which have been strengthening bilateral ties in recent years.

Flydubai’s Continued European Expansion

This latest launch is part of Flydubai’s broader European expansion strategy, which includes the addition of other Baltic destinations, including Vilnius, Lithuania, earlier this year. With over 35 European destinations, Flydubai’s new services are designed to cater to the increasing demand for direct flights between the Middle East and Eastern Europe.

Flydubai’s CEO, Ghaith Al Ghaith, commented on the significance of the route: “Our new service to Riga underscores Flydubai’s commitment to expanding our network to underserved destinations while strengthening the ties between the UAE and Europe. We are proud to be the first UAE carrier to connect Dubai to Latvia and look forward to supporting the growing demand for travel between both regions.”

The introduction of direct flights will also bring with it increased connectivity for travelers, with seamless codeshare options available through Flydubai’s partnership with Emirates. This means travelers flying to Riga from the Middle East can easily transfer to a wide range of destinations across the Emirates network, including popular destinations in Asia, Africa, and Australia.

Riga: The New Travel Gem for Middle Eastern Visitors

Riga, Latvia’s largest city, is a growing tourist destination known for its art nouveau architecture, rich cultural heritage, and proximity to beautiful coastal regions. In addition to its thriving tourism sector, the city also serves as a hub for international business and trade, particularly in the areas of IT, finance, and transport. Latvia has been attracting investment from global markets, with Dubai-based investors seeing increased opportunities in the Baltic region.

With the new Flydubai service, visitors to Riga can explore its historical landmarks, indulge in the vibrant food scene, and enjoy the city’s dynamic arts and culture scene. Whether it’s visiting the Riga Art Nouveau district, attending a local festival, or discovering the rich traditions of the region, there’s something for every kind of traveler in this beautiful European capital.

Impact on Tourism and Trade: What’s Next?

In terms of tourism, the new flight promises to open Latvia to a wave of Middle Eastern visitors, enhancing the region’s presence on the global tourism map. According to Latvia’s national tourism board, the Middle East market is increasingly showing interest in the Baltic States, with travel data showing rising numbers of visitors from the UAE and surrounding countries in recent years.

As more UAE travelers seek new, culturally enriching experiences in Europe, Latvia presents a unique destination combining the best of both worlds: historical significance and modern conveniences. For Latvian travelers, Dubai offers a world-class experience, from its luxury hotels and iconic landmarks like the Burj Khalifa to its vibrant dining and entertainment scene. The accessibility of Dubai’s international business community also provides further incentives for Latvian entrepreneurs and professionals looking to explore the region’s opportunities.

Moreover, the launch of Flydubai’s direct flight to Riga comes at a time when UAE–Latvia relations are growing stronger, with diplomatic, cultural, and commercial exchanges on the rise. Latvia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has welcomed this new connection, acknowledging the growing importance of expanding routes to Dubai for both tourism and economic collaboration.

The Flydubai Experience: Why Choose This Route?

Flydubai’s commitment to providing passengers with seamless travel experiences is evident in the airline’s service offerings. Passengers on the Dubai–Riga route will enjoy modern amenities, including spacious seating, a variety of in-flight entertainment options, and premium services for those traveling in business class.

Flydubai also offers competitive pricing, making it easier for budget-conscious travelers to visit Riga without compromising on comfort. Additionally, the airline’s extensive flight network, both within the UAE and across Europe, means that travelers can combine their Riga journey with connections to other cities, ensuring flexibility and convenience.

The Emirates codeshare partnership further enhances the travel experience, with passengers able to book connecting flights to more than 240 destinations worldwide. This opens up greater travel opportunities, not just for those flying from Dubai to Riga, but for travelers across Europe, Asia, and beyond.

Conclusion: A New Chapter in UAE-Latvia Travel Connections

Flydubai’s direct flight service to Riga is a game-changer for travelers, business professionals, and tourism stakeholders alike. By connecting Dubai to Latvia, the airline is not only enhancing travel options but also fostering closer trade ties and cultural exchange between the two regions. The new service is set to become a vital link in the growing network of air travel options between the Middle East and Eastern Europe, making Latvia’s capital city more accessible than ever before.

As Riga prepares for a surge of visitors, the Flydubai route promises to open new doors for tourism, investment, and business opportunities. For UAE travelers, it’s an exciting chance to discover a new corner of Europe, rich with history, culture, and opportunity. For Latvian visitors, Dubai beckons with its modern allure, world-class services, and vast economic potential.

Proposed "perfect" Red Sox trade sees Boston deal Jarren Duran, prospects for $15.5 million two-time All-Star ace

Proposed "perfect" Red Sox trade sees Boston deal Jarren Duran, prospects for $15.5 million two-time All-Star ace originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.

The Boston Red Sox found their ace in Garrett Crochet this year, after trading for him around this time last year. Now, they’ve made some moves to finally get him some support in the rotation, but none of those moves are truly a No. 2 to back him up.

Fansided’s Cody Williams believes he has the perfect trade for a name that’s been floated around as an option: Milwaukee Brewers All-Star Freddy Peralta.

“While Boston has long looked like an obvious suitor for Peralta, the trade assets haven't necessarily lined up perfectly for both them and Milwaukee…Now, the Brewers still aren't in need of outfield help, so to speak, but there is certainly room to upgrade over the likes of Jake Bauers, Garrett Mitchell or Blake Perkins, which Duran or Abreu would allow them to do. Furthermore, in typical fashion for Milwaukee, they could flip an asset they're unlikely to be able to pay in Peralta for immediate major-league upgrades with plenty of club control at low cost and prospects that could help keep the ball rolling under Pat Murphy,” Williams wrote.

MORE: Cubs predicted to trade for $3.75 million 150 SO ace to create 1-2 punch with Shota Imanaga

The trade would look like this:

Red Sox get: RHP Freddy Peralta

Brewers get: OF Jarren Duran, SS Franklin Arias (No. 1 Prospect), RHP Juan Valera (No. 12 Prospect)

MORE: Mariners predicted to trade for $5.75 million All-Star, Gold Glove as amazing replacement for Jorge Polanco

Peralta posted a 17-6 record, a 2.70 ERA, 204 Ks, and a WHIP of 1.075 over 176 innings pitched last season. Combine him with Crochet, and the Sox have a World Series-contending-level rotation.

The only problem with this is it’s basically a one-year rental. Peralta’s contract is up after this year, and he’s projected to get a five-year, $152 million deal

The Sox have shown they don’t believe in giving long-term contracts out to players over 30, and Peralta will be 30 in the upcoming season. Hopefully, the Sox make an exception, get uncomfortable like they said they would, and pursue this trade.

Yuri Vernidub: “Neftçi”yə yalnız çempionluq yaraşır”

“Neftçi”nin yeni baş məşqçisi, ukraunalı futbol mütəxəssisi Yuri Vernidub paytaxt klubunun rəsmi saytına müsahibə verib.

Arena.az xəbər verir ki, ukraynalı mütəxəssis “Neftçi”yə gəlişi və hədəflər haqda danışıb.

– “Neftçi”yə gəlişiniz necə baş tutdu?
– Əslində, həm ölkə daxilindən, həm də ölkə xaricindən təkliflərim var idi. Amma “Neftçi”dən təklif gələn kimi digərlərini kənara qoydum.

Yuri Vernidub hədəflərini açıqladı

Hər şeyin fərqindəyəm. “Neftçi”ni hər oyunda nəticədən asılı olmayaraq, sonadək dəstəklədiklərindən xəbərdaram. Çalışacağıq və əlimizdən gələni edəcəyik ki, onların ümidlərini doğruldaq, hər oyundan sonra onları evlərinə sevinclə yola salaq. Azarkeşlərdən də xahiş edirəm ki, futbolçulardan dəstəklərini əsirgəməsinlər.

Former Brewers catcher Danny Jansen gets multi-year deal with Rangers

Appleton West High School alumnus Danny Jansen, who spent the latter portion of the 2025 season with the Milwaukee Brewers, signed a two-year, $14.5 million deal with the Texas Rangers, a source told MLB.com.

The Rangers reportedly made a flurry of moves Dec. 12, including the signing of another 2025 Brewers player, Tyler Alexander, though the club hadn't confirmed the signings as of the morning of Dec. 13.

Milwaukee Brewers catcher Danny Jansen rounds first base after hitting a two-run home run against the Cincinnati Reds.

Jansen joined the Brewers shortly before the trade deadline, acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays, where he was stationed after signing a one-year offseason deal.

Jansen, 30, batted only .215 last year between his two stops but still posted a highly respectable .779 OPS (on-base plus slugging percentage) in 25 games with the Brewers, including three home runs. Jansen was often left on the bench with William Contreras handling such a large share of the catching innings; Jansen didn't even appear in the postseason despite his place on the Brewers roster throughout.

Jansen homered and drove in two runs in a 4-2 win over Cincinnati on Sept. 28, a win in the regular-season finale that represented a franchise-record 97th victory for Milwaukee.

Alexander posted a 6.19 earned-run average with the Brewers in 21 games at the start of the 2025 season before the club released him in June, and he finished the year with a 4.26 ERA per 31 games with the White Sox.

Former Brewers reliever Hoby Milner to Cubs

Former Brewers left-handed reliever Hoby Milner is going the opposite direction of Jansen, relocating from Texas back to the Midwest, this time as a member of the rival Cubs.

Milner reportedly signed a one-year deal worth $3.75 million with the Cubs.

Milner posted a 3.84 ERA with the Rangers in 2025 over 70 innings of work, his highest career workload. From 2021-24 with the Brewers, Milner posted a 3.64 ERA. He turns 35 in January.

Hər şeyin fərqindəyəm. “Neftçi”ni hər oyunda nəticədən asılı olmayaraq sonadək dəstəklədiklərindən xəbərdaram. Çalışacağıq və əlimizdən gələni edəcəyik ki, onların ümidlərini doğruldaq, hər oyundan sonra onları evlərinə sevinclə yola salaq. Azarkeşlərdən də xahiş edirəm ki, futbolçulardan dəstəklərini əsirgəməsinlər.

The Kaktus Hotel: Sustainable Design and Lifestyle Focus Redefine Conscious Travel Experience

The Kaktus Hotel: Sustainable Design and Lifestyle Focus Redefine Conscious Travel Experience

The modern traveler is undergoing a profound transformation. The days of simply booking a room for a night are fading; today’s guest seeks an experience that aligns with their personal values, lifestyle, and global consciousness. They demand more than luxury; they require purpose. Recognizing this seismic shift, The Kaktus Hotel emerges as a direct answer, positioning itself not merely as accommodation, but as a holistic hub for conscious travel, lifestyle, and genuine connection. It is a revolutionary hospitality concept that understands that true sophistication in the 21st century lies not in extravagance, but in ethical and intentional design. The Kaktus Hotel promises a stay that is both deeply restorative and globally responsible.

Conscious Design: Where Sustainability Meets Style

The foundational principle of The Kaktus Hotel lies in its commitment to conscious design and sustainability. Every aspect of the property—from its construction materials to its daily operations—is likely infused with an ethical ethos. This involves prioritizing locally sourced, renewable, or recycled materials, minimizing the hotel’s carbon footprint, and implementing energy-efficient systems.

The use of the name “Kaktus” itself suggests resilience, low environmental impact, and an aesthetic inspired by arid, natural beauty. This translates into design elements that are minimalist yet warm, featuring natural textures, earthen tones, and abundant natural light. The aesthetic choice is deliberate: it’s intended to foster a sense of calm and connection to the environment, demonstrating that luxury and ecological responsibility are not mutually exclusive, but rather enhance one another. The architecture and interiors are designed to tell a story of respectful integration with the local ecosystem.

The Hub for Lifestyle and Connection

Beyond the physical space, The Kaktus Hotel is built around the philosophy of fostering human connection and an integrated lifestyle. It actively rejects the isolating nature of traditional hotels. Instead, it features communal spaces—co-working areas, shared kitchens, vibrant lounges, and carefully curated workshop venues—that encourage guests to interact, exchange ideas, and build temporary communities. The hotel programs are not just amenities; they are catalysts for connection. Think morning yoga sessions, local artisan workshops, sustainability lectures, or communal dining experiences that bring solo travelers and families together around shared interests and values.

The hotel aims to seamlessly integrate the guest’s personal lifestyle into their travel experience. This means providing high-quality, healthy dining options that cater to diverse dietary needs, offering bespoke wellness services, and curating local experiences that go beyond the typical tourist traps. By championing authentic, localized activities, The Kaktus Hotel ensures that the guest’s stay enriches the local community as much as it enriches the traveler.

The Economic and Social Pillars of Ethical Travel

The concept of conscious travel at The Kaktus Hotel extends deep into its economic and social practices. The hotel is likely committed to supporting local economies through fair hiring practices, procurement of goods and services from small, local vendors, and promoting cultural preservation. This ethical framework ensures that a significant portion of the tourism revenue stays within the host community, thereby ensuring that the hotel’s presence is a source of regional growth, not merely external exploitation.

Furthermore, the hotel is likely transparent about its sustainability metrics and social impact, giving guests the power to make informed choices. This transparency is a key differentiator in the conscious travel market, appealing to guests who want their travel dollars to have a positive influence. Guests feel good knowing that their choice of accommodation actively contributes to a better standard of living for the hotel staff and local suppliers.

A Model for the Future of Hospitality

The Kaktus Hotel represents a blueprint for the future of hospitality. It recognizes that the most powerful drivers for the next generation of travelers are authenticity, purpose, and community. It moves the focus away from superficial extravagance toward experiential richness and ethical integrity. By successfully marrying sleek, desirable design with a deeply embedded environmental and social ethos, The Kaktus Hotel is pioneering a new standard. It demonstrates that the most successful hotel brands of tomorrow will be those that prioritize the planet and people alongside profit, effectively turning a necessary utility into a platform for positive global change. It is an oasis where one can truly relax, reconnect, and travel with a clear conscience.

The MLB offseason can sometimes move at a painfully slow pace, but if history is any indication, December will be the busiest month — thanks in part to the Winter Meetings, which can sometimes lead to a flurry of player movement.

The annual congregation of executives, managers, free agents and, of course, agents takes place in Orlando this year, and there is plenty of business to get done.

Names such as Dylan Cease, Pete Alonso and Edwin Díaz are already off the board and headed to new teams. Meanwhile, a number of big names remain unsigned or involved in trade rumors.

Speaking of the trade market, things on that front could be worth watching more closely in the coming days. While a Tarik Skubal trade doesn’t seem imminent or even particularly likely this offseason, Ketel Marte, MacKenzie Gore and Jarren Duran are among the names who have surfaced in rumors.

The Sporting News is tracking all of the latest buzz below, from rumors to signings and trades. Follow along with the latest updates.

Royals extend 3B Maikel Garcia

Garcia is coming off a breakout season, producing an .800 OPS, a 5.8 bWAR and his first All-Star appearance. The 25-year-old is now locked in with Kansas City for the next five years, forming a dynamic pair with SS Bobby Witt Jr.

Mets have interest in White Sox OF Luis Robert

New York has a vacancy in the outfield after trading Brandon Nimmo earlier in the offseason, and Robert is a possible trade candidate. Baddoo has spent his entire career with the Tigers until this point, but only played in seven games last year. The 27-year-old outfielder now gets a fresh start in Milwaukee.

Braves to sign RP Robert Suarez to three-year, $45 million deal

Suarez was the best reliever on the market after Edwin Diaz and Devin Williams found homes, and the former Padres reliever is now headed to Atlanta. The three-year deal worth $45 million in the a similar range as Williams' and Diaz's contracts, as the reliever joins Raisel Iglesias in the back of Atlanta's bullpen.

A's, RP Mark Leiter Jr. agree to deal

Leiter spent the past 1.5 seasons with the Yankees, but was non-tendered during the offseason. He provides the Athletics a reliable bullpen arm that has pitched in big moments before.

Cody Bellinger "could be waiting" for Kyle Tucker to sign

Kuty reports that Bellinger's agent, Scott Boras, may prefer Tucker to be off the board before finalizing a potential Bellinger deal. Bellinger and Tucker represent the top two outfielders on the market, so Boras may feel as though any team that misses on Tucker would then try to pivot to Bellinger.

Braves sign Mike Yastrzemski to three-year deal

The Braves made their first major move of the offseason by signing outfielder Mike Yastrzemski to a two-year, $23 million deal. The contract includes a third-year club option.

Orioles remain active, still talking to Framber Valdez

Even after signing Pete Alonso, the Orioles remain active on the free agent market and continue to talk to former Astros SP Framber Valdez, Jon Morosi reports. Baltimore has also been connected to MacKenzie Gore in trade talks.

Red Sox showing interest in Eugenio Suarez

Eugenio Suarez's market has been quiet, at least publicly, but the Red Sox are showing interest in him, along with a handful of other infielders, Jon Heyman reports.

Mets never made offer to Pete Alonso

The Mets never made an offer to Alonso, Joel Sherman reports, noting that they knew the first baseman was receiving offers longer and more expensive than they were comfortable going.

Pete Alonso signing a five-year, $155 million deal with Orioles

Pete Alonso is leaving Queens and heading to the AL East — but not to a team people expected. It is the Orioles that will be the first baseman's new home, as the free agent agreed to a five-year contract $155 million deal with Baltimore. It gives the Orioles a veteran slugger to add to their mix of young studs.

Brian Cashman says Yankees 'not an open blank checkbook'

Speaking to reporters at the Winter Meetings, Yankees GM Brian Cashman said while the franchise is "aggressive," it cannot be an "open blank checkbook" when it comes to spending money. "Everything adds up. Everything counts," Cashman said. The Yankees have had a quiet offseason outside of Trent Grisham accepting his qualifying offer to return in 2026.

Mets, Yankees, Orioles check in on Kyle Tucker

The Mets, Yankees, Orioles and "most all big-market teams" have checked in on top free agent Kyle Tucker, Jon Heyman reports.

Dodgers not willing to go long-term to sign Kyle Tucker

The Dodgers would be willing to give OF Kyle Tucker a lucrative deal for three or four years but are reluctant to give out a deal spanning six or seven years, The Athletic reports.

Pirates interested in Brandon Lowe

The Pirates are remaining aggressive after missing on Kyle Schwarber and have talked to the Rays about 2B Brandon Lowe, Jon Morosi reports.

Red Sox viewed as strong candidates for Ketel Marte

The Red Sox are seen as strong candidates for Ketel Marte compared to the Blue Jays because of their young starting pitching depth, Jon Morosi reports. The Diamondbacks have been known to be targeting young starters in any Marte talks.

Tigers re-sign Kyle Finnegan

The Tigers have agreed to a two-year, $19 million deal to bring back reliever Kyle Finnegan. Acquired from the Nationals at the July deadline, Finnegan impressed with a 1.50 ERA and 11.5 K/9 rate in 16 appearances with the Tigers, putting himself in line for save opportunities in 2026.

Rangers, Red Sox discuss Corey Seager trade

The Red Sox have discussed a Corey Seager trade with the Rangers, the Boston Globe reports, though WEEI's Rob Bradford says the talks don't have momentum at the moment. Seager has been a superstar with the Rangers when healthy, but Texas is on a mission to shed salary this winter and the two-time World Series MVP still has six years remaining on his massive contract.

Marlins talking Edward Cabrera trade

The Marlins are "engaged" in trade talks involving SP Edward Cabrera with numerous teams, Jon Heyman reports. Cabrera enjoyed a breakout season for Miami in 2025 and was a popular name leading up to the July deadline.

Orioles, Reds, Pirates made offers for Schwarber before Phillies reunion

Before Kyle Schwarber agreed to re-sign with the Phillies, Baltimore matched Philadelphia's offer of five years, $150 million, per Rosenthal. The Reds offered Schwarber a five-year deal "in the $125 million range," while the Pirates offered four years and $120 million.

Red Sox viewed as stronger candidate for Ketel Marte than Blue Jays

Per Jon Morosi, within the AL East, the Red Sox are viewed as a stronger trade candidate for star infielder Ketel Marte than the Blue Jays, because of Boston's depth of MLB-ready starters.

Scott Boras expects Pete Alonso's market to heat up

Speaking at the Winter Meetings, agent Scott Boras said he expects 1B Pete Alonso's market to pick up now that Kyle Schwarber has signed. Alonso has reportedly been in and out of the meetings to meet with teams, including the Red Sox and Orioles.

Tigers interested in Ha-Seong Kim

The Tigers have been floated as a potential Alex Bregman suitor, but they also have real interest in SS Ha-Seong Kim, according to the Detroit Free Press. Kim, a terrific defender, landed with the Rays last offseason but missed most of 2025 and finished the year with the Braves. After a healthy September, Kim opted out of his deal.

Mets could be reluctant to go beyond three years for Alonso

The Mets "may be hesitant to go more than three years" on a new deal for 1B Pete Alonso, MLB.com's Mark Feinsand reports, which could complicate the path to a reunion between the two sides. Alonso settled for a short deal last winter but is looking for long-term security this time around after a strong season at the plate.

Angels swing minor deal for Vaughn Grissom

The Angels are acquiring infielder Vaughn Grissom from the Red Sox, in exchange for OF prospect Isaiah Jackson. Grissom, Boston's one-for-one return for Chris Sale two years ago, struggled in a brief MLB stint in 2024 and spent all of 2025 in the minor leagues, posting a .783 OPS. 2026 will be Grissom's age-25 season.

Padres 'shooting big' in trade talks

The Padres and GM A.J. Preller are "shooting big" in trade talks and working on "multiple fronts" to put together significant deals, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Mets, Blue Jays now top suitors for Robert Suarez

With the Mets' former closer, Edwin Diaz, off the market, New York is now viewed as a suitor for the new top available reliever, Robert Suarez. The Blue Jays are also in the mix, per Jon Morosi.

Dodgers agree to deal with Edwin Diaz

Former Mets closer Edwin Diaz has agreed to a deal with the Dodgers, according to The Athletic's Will Sammon, bolstering a bullpen that was a rare weakness for much of the regular season in 2025.

Diaz's deal is worth $69 million over three years, per Jeff Passan.

Phillies re-sign Kyle Schwarber

The Phillies have agreed to a five-year, $150 million deal to re-sign DH Kyle Schwarber, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan. Schwarber, who was the runner-up for NL MVP in 2025, was also pursued by the Reds, Pirates, Orioles and Mets.

Alex Bregman still Red Sox' No. 1 target

While the Red Sox are taking a look at a bevy of infielders, including Pete Alonso, Bo Bichette and Ketel Marte, a reunion with Alex Bregman remains Boston's "No. 1 target," according to The Athletic. A trade for Isaac Paredes could be a fallback option if a deal can't be reached with Bregman.

Scott Harris says he "doesn't believe in untouchable players" regarding Tarik Skubal

Harris answered a question about Tarik Skubal's trade status, as the executive said he wouldn't be doing his job if he didn't listen. Skubal has one year left on his contract, which could prompt Detroit to trade him before the season begins if the team gets a good deal.

Rays agree to deal P Steven Matz

Matz is a former starter who transitioned to the bullpen last season, and found success with the Red Sox late in the year, finishing the season with a 3.05 ERA between St. Louis and Boston. Topkin adds that the deal will span two years.

Brewers RP Trevor Megill drawing interest from Mets, Yankees

Megill was the best relievers on the Brewers last year, but Milwaukee is always exploring different ways to mix up its team. The Yankees have a reliever vacancy after losing Devin Williams to the Mets in free agency, but the Mets also still need to upgrade their bullpen.

Astros, Rays have discussed Shane Baz trade

According to Rome, no deal is close, but Houston's interest in Baz is real and could be the type of move that the team prefers. Baz is coming off a season where he made a career-high 31 starts for the Rays, but still pitched to a 4.87 ERA.

Yankees have checking in on Nationals SP MacKenzie Gore

Gore is one of several pitchers who could be traded, as the Nats look to build for the future. While Golden also reports the Red Sox and Padres explored a Gore trade at the trade deadline, he specifically names the Yankees as a team that has made a call in recent days.

Mets, Blue Jays, Dodgers among teams interested in Robert Suarez

Suarez is one of the top relievers on the market, and the Mets, Blue Jays and Dodgers are all teams that have shown interest in improving their bullpens. Those three teams have also been linked to top closer Edwin Diaz, which makes Suarez a potential fallback option.

Kyle Schwarber likely the next name to come off the board

Cotillo added that other teams may be waiting for Schwarber to sign before moving on to other players. While the Phillies are believed to be the favorite to retain the DH, but the Red Sox, Mets, Reds and Pirates have all been linked to Schwarber as well.

Diamondbacks targeting starters in Ketel Marte talks

The Diamondbacks are willing to listen on 2B Ketel Marte and are emphasizing MLB-ready starting pitchers in talks, but their asking price remains high, according to Jon Morosi. Marte has been one of the hottest names as the Winter Meetings get underway, indicating teams believe he can be had in a trade, and interested teams  reportedly include the Red Sox, Blue Jays and Mariners.

Orioles interested in Ranger Suarez

The Orioles are in on free agent starter Ranger Suarez, Jon Heyman reports. Suarez is one of the top free agent arms available, and Baltimore has been connected to starters since the offseason began.

Pete Alonso to meet with Red Sox, Orioles

Free agent 1B Pete Alonso is heading to the Winter Meetings to meet with interested suitors, including the Red Sox and Orioles, according to the New York Post. Alonso lives a short drive away from Orlando, so he will meet in-person with interested teams.

Brian Cashman says Yankees are covered in 'most areas'

Yankees GM Brian Cashman said at the Winter Meetings that the organization is "open-minded" but doesn't have to do as much as last winter because of the talent on the roster. "We have really good players on this roster, and we are covered in most all areas that you need to be covered."

CJ Abrams receiving heavy interest in trade talks

The Nationals are receiving heavy interest in SS CJ Abrams in trade talks and are open to dealing him, The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal and Will Sammon report. Washington is also talking about deals centered on SP MacKenzie Gore as the new front office looks to shake up the organization.

Blue Jays interested in Ketel Marte

The Blue Jays are also among teams talking to the Diamondbacks about 2B Ketel Marte, Jon Heyman reports. The Red Sox and Mariners were reported Sunday as potential suitors for Marte, though there doesn't appear to be much traction in talks yet, Heyman reports.

Michael Soroka latches on with Diamondbacks

The Diamondbacks have agreed to a one-year, $7.5 million deal with pitcher Michael Soroka. Soroka split the 2025 season with the Nationals and Cubs, posting a 4.87 ERA and 4.16 FIP over 16 starts with Washington before an injury limited him to 8.1 strong innings with Chicago. Soroka could function as either a starter or reliever in Arizona.

Red Sox, Mariners named suitors for Ketel Marte

Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte is in high demand this offseason, as a number of suitors have pursued the All-Star infielder. The Red Sox, Mariners, Pirates, Rays, Tigers and Jays are all listed as targets by New York Post's Jon Heyman.

Framber Valdez connected to Giants, Mets, Orioles

One of the top arms available on the market, Valdez has been travelling from coast to coast, as it's reported he's visited Baltimore, New York and San Francisco. The 32-year-old lefty finished his eighth season in Houston last year with a .366 ERA.

Pirates make pitch to Kyle Schwarber

The Pirates said they were looking to spend this offseason around Paul Skenes. How about Phillies slugger Kyle Schwarber? Pittsburgh has reportedly put a four-year offer in for the free agent, while Red Sox, Cubs, Reds and others remain in the mix.

Mariners send prospect Harry Ford to D.C. for Jose Ferrer

The Mariners have acquire reliever Jose Ferrer from the Nationals, in exchange for catching prospect Harry Ford and pitching prospect Isaac Lyon. The 25-year-old Ferrer has unspectacular raw numbers as a major-leaguer, but a career 3.33 FIP, impressive walk rate and high velocity make him a potential high-leverage reliever for Seattle, while Ford is a consensus top-75 prospect in baseball and could be the Nationals' catcher of the future.

Twins planning to keep Joe Ryan, Byron Buxton

Despite July's firesale, the Minnesota Twins are not planning to trade Joe Ryan, Byron Buxton or Pablo Lopez this winter, The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal reports. The Twins discussed a Ryan trade with the Boston Red Sox at the deadline but decided against dealing their young ace.

Tigers 'engaged' on Tarik Skubal trade

The Detroit Tigers remain "engaged" with teams on a potential Tarik Skubal trade, according to ESPN's Buster Olney, but they are still unsure about dealing him and have an "enormous" asking price. Skubal, the back-to-back reigning AL Cy Young Award winner, is set to be a free agent after the 2026 season and is reportedly far apart in extension talks with the Tigers.

Yuri Vernidub – “Neftçi”nin yeni baş məşqçisi!

Azərbaycan Premyer Liqasında uğursuz mövsüm keçirən “Neftçi”nin baş məşqçisi vəzifəsinə ukraynalı mütəxəssis Yuri Vernidub təyin edilib.

Arena.az bu barədə paytaxt klubunun rəsmi saytına istinadən xəbər verir.

Bildirilir ki, ukraynalı mütəxəssislə 1,5 illik müqavilə imzalanıb.

Məşqçilik fəaliyyətinə 2001-ci ildə köməkçi məşqçi kimi başlamış, 2011-ci ildən etibarən isə baş məşqçi postunu tutan Vernidub vətənində “Metallurq” (Zaporojye), “Zarya”, “Krivbass”, Belarusda “Şaxtyor” (Soliqorsk), Moldovada “Şerif” klublarında çalışıb.

Yuri Vernidub müxtəlif illərdə “Zarya” və “Krivbass” ilə Ukrayna çempionatının bürünc mükafatçısı, “Şerif”lə 2 dəfə Moldova çempionu olub. “Şerif”i UEFA Çempionlar Liqasının, “Zarya”nı Avropa Liqasının qrup mərhələsinə yüksəldən, “Krivbass”ı 24 ildən sonra avrokuboklara çıxaran təcrübəli mütəxəssis 2016 və 2018-ci illərdə Ukraynada, 2021-ci ildə isə Moldovada ilin məşqçisi seçilib.

Qeyd edək ki, məşqçilər korpusunda Vernidubun köməkçiləri – Valeri Mixaylenko, Dmitro Kara-Mustafa, Vitali Vernidub və İqor Fokin yer alırlar.

Vitali Vernidub məhz Yuri Vernidubun oğludur.

Black Forest Labs valued at $3.25B after $300M Series B

Black Forest Labs has announced the closing of its $300 million Series B funding round, valuing the company at $3.25 billion post-money. Founded just last year, the Freiburg and San Francisco–based startup has quickly emerged as a leader in frontier models for pixels, building systems that go beyond traditional image generation. Its mission is to create what cameras cannot capture—tools that understand intent rather than simply executing prompts, enabling imagination to become reality for enterprises and independent creators alike.

Millions of users are already engaging with Black Forest Labs’ FLUX models, which have become the most popular open-source image models on Hugging Face. On the enterprise side, adoption is strong across platforms such as Fal.ai, Replicate, and TogetherAI, while industry giants including Adobe, Canva, Meta, and Microsoft are integrating the models to power new creative experiences. These achievements underscore the company’s rapid ascent in the generative AI ecosystem.

The Series B round was co-led by Salesforce Ventures and Anjney Midha (AMP), with participation from Temasek, Bain Capital Ventures, Air Street Capital, Visionaries Club, Canva, and Figma Ventures. Existing partners—including a16z, NVIDIA, Northzone, Creandum, Earlybird VC, BroadLight Capital, and General Catalyst—also deepened their commitments. This substantial investment will accelerate research and development, enabling Black Forest Labs to advance toward models that unify perception, generation, memory, and reasoning, laying the foundation for true visual intelligence.

The company’s compact but highly skilled team includes pioneers behind latent diffusion, Stable Diffusion, and FLUX, giving it a unique edge in pushing the boundaries of generative AI. With headquarters in Freiburg and San Francisco, Black Forest Labs is expanding its workforce to support global ambitions. The funding will be directed toward scaling product innovation, strengthening enterprise adoption, and building infrastructure capable of supporting the next generation of AI-driven creativity.

Looking ahead, Black Forest Labs aims to transform how humans interact with pixels by creating systems that anticipate intent and deliver imagination at scale. With strong investor backing and a growing ecosystem of partners, the company is positioning itself as a global leader in visual intelligence, driving the future of creativity from concept to reality.
