Ukraine April 2026: Renault Duster back to pole position, Mazda up 191.5%

The Renault Duster is the best-selling vehicle in Ukraine in April.

5,612 new cars hit Ukrainian roads in April, a steep -7.4% year-on-year decline, leaving the year-to-date tally hanging by a threat at +0.3% to 20,056 units. Toyota (-5.7%) remains in the brands pole position with 12.5% share, with the Top 4 identical to last month. Renault (+1.5%) takes the 2nd spot ahead of Volkswagen (-21.9%) and Skoda (-23.1%) both in dire straits. In contrast Mazda (+191.5%), BYD (+40.1%), BMW (+16.9%) and Hyundai (+14.2%) ignore the negative context with splendid YoY lifts.Β

Model-wise, the Renault Duster (-16.9%) returns to #1 for the second time this year after last January but remains #2 year-to-date below the Toyota RAV4 (+22.9% in April). The Hyundai Tucson (+4.3%) stays at #3 ahead of the Skoda Kodiaq (-28.8%) and Karoq (+21.1%). The Mazda CX-5 (+166.7%) sports a stunning gain with the Nissan Qashqai (+17.5%) and VW Tiguan (+5.5%) also in positive in the remainder of the Top 10. The VW Touareg (-35.9%), despite a catastrophic YoY loss, still ranks at a world best #7 and is #6 so far this year. The BYD Sealion 6 is the most popular recent launch at #9. Note the Top 14 best-sellers are all SUVs.

Previous month: Ukraine March 2026: Toyota RAV4 #1 again, VW Touareg up to #4

Previous year: Ukraine Full Year 2025: Toyota and Renault Duster #1, BYD at 26.3% share in December

USA April 2026: Accord helps Honda up, sales off -6.7%

Honda Accord sales are up 42.5% and tilt the brand into positive.

Three factors have combined to trigger the 4th consecutive year-on-year market decline in the US at -6.7% to 1,367,000 units according to GlobalData. First, April 2025 was propped by a pre-tariff rush that lifted the market by 10%. Second, the loss of federal electric vehicle tax credits have depleted the market for BEVs and third, record high petrol prices have degraded affordability further. The SAAR stands at 16.1 million according to Motor Intelligence, down from 17.2 million in April 2025 and 16.3 million last month.

Illustrating the impact of tariffs,Β Imports are down 16% for the month and -9.9% year-to-date whereas vehicles produced in North America fall just -3.9% in April and -3.5% year-to-date. Manufacturers are doing their best to counter affordability pressure. According to JD Power and GlobalData, the average incentives on non-EV vehicles stands at $2,860, a whopping 16% more than April 2025. Meanwhile average EV incentives are significantly higher at $10,018, however down -1.7% on a year ago.

All OEMs reporting monthly data are down. American Honda resists best at -0.2% while Hyundai-Kia is at -2.1% and Toyota Motor at -4.6%. Brand-wise, Honda (+1.6%) and Genesis (+0.8%) are the only ones reporting in positive. Hyundai (-1.7%), Toyota (-1.9%), Kia (-2.8%) and Subaru (-5.9%) contain their loss even though this isΒ Subaru’s 9th consecutive month of YoY declines. In contrast Ford (-14.1%), Acura (-15.6%), Mazda (-17.3%), Lexus (-19.9%) and Lincoln (-21.4%) all struggle.

The Ford F-Series remains the dominant force in the market but falls a stark -14.7% year-on-year, in line with the -15.7% it lost so far in 2026. The Honda CR-V (+2.9%) smashes its archenemy the Toyota RAV4 (-32.8%) by almost 15,000 sales and extends its YTD advantage to a probably insurmountable 54,000 units. In a mini sedan revival, the Toyota Camry (+17.9%) and Corolla (+12.6%) surprise with double-digit gains while the Honda Civic (+6.3%) is more measured but still in positive. Excellent results for the Honda Accord (+42.5%), Ford Transit (+22%) and Bronco (+18.6%).Β

Canada April 2026: Toyota, Volvo, Genesis islands of growth in negative market

Toyota Tacoma sales are up 54.4% in April.

Local consultancy DesRosiers Automotive has the Canadian new light vehicle market down -3.9% year-on-year in April to an estimated 178,000 units. Keep in mind April 2025 was the biggest April volume since 2018 so the comparison base is quite high. In this context, and given record high petrol prices, this month’s result is actually not that bad. Indeed the SAAR of 1.83 million, although down from the 1.90 million of April 2025, is also quite satisfying and just down from the 1.85 million of March. Note total sales for manufacturers still reporting monthly are down -7.1% to 77,349. The year-to-date result after four months stands at 584,000, -5.3% below the same period a year ago.

Among OEMs reporting monthly data, Toyota Motor (+5.9%) is the only one in positive, with Hyundai-Kia (-2.6%) resisting slightly better than the market but Honda Canada (-14.8%) skidding. Brand-wise, Genesis (+16.1%), Volvo (+16%) and Toyota (+8.5%) keep their head above the water, Hyundai (-0.7%) is stable while Kia (-6.8%), Acura (-8.5%) and Lexus (-8.9%) contain their fall to the single digits. Subaru (-27.3%) and Mazda (-26.7%) are in serious trouble.

As for models with monthly sales available, the Toyota RAV4 (-37.4%) is back above its archenemy the Honda CR-V for the first time this year and despite a still catastrophic YoY loss. The CR-V leads by almost 5,800 sales YTD. The Hyundai Tucson (+13.7%) is very solid as are the Kia Sportage (+25.7%) and Toyota Corolla (+27.4%), the latter surprising given the traditional poor performance of passenger cars. The Toyota Sienna (+65.2%), Tacoma (+54.4%) and Kia Seltos (+42.8%) all shoot up.

Previous month: Canada March/Q1 2026: Ford Motor (+14.4%), Stellantis (+14.6%) shine, sales down -4.4%

One year ago: Canada April 2025: Honda (+53.2%) helps push market up 10.2%

Ireland April 2026: Toyota RAV4 surges to record 8.4% share

The Toyota RAV4 is by far the best-selling vehicle in Ireland in April.

Exceptional month for new car sales in Ireland at +17% year-on-year in April to 10,184 units. The year-to-date tally is now up 2.2% to 75,073. Toyota (+38.4%) and Skoda (+34.9%) end the month just 11 units apart, which means Toyota widens the gap with its followers and Skoda ascends to #3 year-to-date. Volkswagen (+2.4%) is weak YoY in comparison but holds 13.7% of the market vs. 10.6% so far this year. BYD (+83.1%) stays inside the Top 10 at #9 with Ford (+61.9%) also very dynamic at #6. Hyundai (+14.7%) and Audi (+11.2%), although managing double-digit YoY lifts, trail the market. Further down, notice Citroen (+161.8%), Opel (+72.7%), MG (+47%) and for once Seat (+38.8%) all in outstanding shape.

Model-wise, the Toyota RAV4 (+166.3%) surges from #119 in March to #1 in April with a stunning 8.4% share, by far the nameplate’s highest ever with a previous best at 4.6% in January 2022. This is also the RAV4’s first win in exactly a year, since April 2025. Due to a particularly slow start of the year the RAV4 stands at #19 year-to-date vs. #5 over the Full Year 2025. The Skoda Octavia (+46.2%) and Kodiaq (+45.4%) complete the podium ahead of surging VW Golf (+72.1%) and Toyota C-HR (+160.7%). The Skoda Enyaq (+262.3%) and VW ID.4 (+94.7%) also shoot up in the remainder of the Top 10 while the BYD Seal U (+176.4%) and Skoda Elroq (+107.1%) are in equally great shape below.

New Zealand March 2026: Toyota Hilux leads the way, Dongfeng Box lands at #12

The Dongfeng Box has a great start in New Zealand.

New light vehicle sales in New Zealand soar 25.1% year-on-year in March to 14,910 units, leading to a Q1 volume up 12.5% to 36,910. In the detail, passenger cars gain 19.4% to 10,063 sales while light commercials shoot up 38.9% to 4,847. Toyota (+8.6%) can’t match the flying market and holds 18.7% share vs. 18% so far this year. Ford (+31.3%) manages an excellent score at #2 unlike Mitsubishi (-14.1%) at #3. BYD (+221.9%) is up 3-fold year-on-year to #4 and 5.8% share, that’s a new ranking record eclipsing its previous best of #5 reached in December 2023 and June 2025. Tesla is up 271% to #8 and Dongfeng ranks #14 with 2.3% share.

Over in the models charts, the Toyota Hilux (+76.7%) gets a big new generation boost and claims the top spot for the first time since last July. The Ford Ranger (+46.1%) is relegated to 2nd place but holds onto the #1 ranking YTD. The Tesla Model Y surges to third place with 3.2% share, its best ranking since topping the charts outright in September 2023. The Mitsubishi Triton (-15.2%) and Nissan Navara (+6.5%) ensure there are four pickup trucks inside the March Top 5. The Toyota Hiace (+115.3%), Hyundai Tucson (#7), Toyota Corolla Cross (+65.9%) and MG ZS (+50.8%) also shine below. Finally the Dongfeng Box makes a splash at #12 and 1.7% for its first full month of sales.
