Brazil April 2026: BYD and Geely smash records in market up 21%

11 May 2026 at 10:11

The EX2 accounts for 90% of Geely sales in Brazil this month.

Another outstanding month for Brazilian new light vehicle sales, up 21% year-on-year in April to 237,498 units. The year-to-date tally is now up a fantastic 17.3% to 835,710, now well above theΒ 801,330 sales achieved over the first 4 months of pre-pandemic 2019. Fiat (+6.3%) is discreet this month but easily holds onto the brands top spot at 19.2% share. Volkswagen (+20.3%) and Chevrolet (+22.3%) both evolve similarly to the market to complete the podium. Hyundai (+12%) is relatively weak at #4 but local producer BYD (+117.7%) surges to a record volume (18,474) and share (7.8%), ending the month just 89 units below Hyundai. Below, GWM (+137%) and Caoa Chery (+61.1%) stand out while newcomer Geely smashes all its records at #14 with 4,003 sales and 1.7% share.Β

Over in the models charts, the Fiat Strada (+47.9%) continues to perform markedly better than a year ago and ruthlessly dominate the ranking with 6.3% share vs. just 3.5% for the #2m the VW Polo (-23.5%) in dire straits. The Fiat Argo (-5.4%) and Chevrolet Onix (+44.9%) exchange positions on last month despite the latter surging year-on-year. The Hyundai Creta (+55.9%) is also in great shape at #6 but the performer of the month is once again the BYD Dolphin Mini (+216.3%) up a further two spots on its March result to #7 with 6,880 sales and 2.9% share, all records. The VW Tera is the best-selling launch but drops outside the Top 10 at #11. It is followed by the Toyota Yaris Cross at #24 and the Geely EX2 at #25.

Previous month: Brazil March 2026: BYD Dolphin Mini breaks into Top 10

One year ago: Brazil April 2025: Fiat distant #1, BYD up 20.4% in negative market

Citroen (+37.8%) also shines in the remainder of the Top 10 while local EV maker Togg (+8%) repeats at #10. BYD implodes -91.7% to #27 as its local factory is scheduled to start production by the end of the year.

Finland April 2026: Toyota Yaris Cross back to #1, Smart #5 in Top 10

8 May 2026 at 10:09

The Smart #5 is among the Top 10 best-sellers in Finland in April.

The Finnish new car market is back to its disappointing self in April at -8.7% year-on-year to just 5,597 units. This means that the gains of February and March are erased and the year-to-date tally returns to negative at -0.4% to 22,485. Toyota (-6.1%) resists ok at 14.8% share, distancing Volkswagen (-21.3%) in much worse shape. Skoda (-3%) is back up to #3 ahead of a struggling Volvo (-28.9%). Excellent scores for Mercedes (+23.9%) at #6, Ford (+16.7%) at #8 and Audi (+12.3%) at #5. Further down, Smart (+841.7%), BYD (+346.4%) and Opel (+237.5%) all post surreal gains.

Model-wise, after four consecutive month of reign by the Tesla Model Y, the Toyota Yaris Cross (+5.8%) reclaims the top spot it held over the Full Year 2025. The Skoda Enyaq (+26.1%) soars 7 spots on last month to #2 ahead of the Toyota Yaris (-14%) and Skoda Elroq (+3.1%). The VW ID.4 (-18.8%) and Toyota Corolla (-13.8%) disappoint below. Meanwhile the VW T-Roc (+320%) and Mercedes CLA (+544.4%) both surge and rank inside the Top 10. The new Smart #5 cracks the Top 10 for the second time after last December.

Chile April 2026: Toyota Hilux back in charge

8 May 2026 at 08:28

The Toyota Hilux is the best-selling vehicle in Chile in April. Upcoming 2026 model pictured.

The Chilean new light vehicle market is up 5.5% year-on-year in April to 27,572 unit. This leads to a year-to-date tally up 5.7% to 102,549, the first time above 100,000 sales at this stage of the year since 2023. Toyota (+2.6%) easily leads the way in the brands charts with 9% share vs. 8.1% so far this year. Like last month Suzuki (+6.7%) and Hyundai (+5.8%) complete the podium. Chevrolet (+19%) is in outstanding shape and climbs up two spots on March to #4, overtaking Kia (-7.1%) and Ford (-8.5%) both struggling. Changan (+53.2%) is the most popular Chinese carmaker at #7, distancing GWM (+8.1%) and MG (+62%). As a whole, the 36 Chinese brands present in Chile hold 36.3% of the market in April vs. 30.4% a year ago thanks to sales up 25.9%.

Model-wise, the Toyota Hilux (-4.4%) is back up 8 spots on March to land its first win of the year at a dominant 3.8% share. The podium is 100% pickup as usual, with the Mitsubishi L200 (-17.2%) and GWM Poer (+18.7%) in tow, the latter holding onto the YTD top spot. The Suzuki Swift (+170.2%) and Fronx (+97.2%) both post sensational scores to round out the Top 5. Excellent results also for the MG ZX (+126.1%) and Ford Territory (+29.2%).

Previous month: Chile March 2026: GWM Poer now #1 year-to-date

Czechia April 2026: Skoda has 9 models in Top 12

8 May 2026 at 07:32

The Skoda Elroq is up to a record #12 in Czechia in April.

22,397 new cars hit Czech roads in April, a solid 5.5% year-on-year increase. This leads to a year-to-date tally up 2.5% to 82,949. Local behemoth Skoda (+14.4%) beats its home market to remain at stratospheric heights: 38.4% share vs. 38.2% so far this year. Volkswagen (+8.5%) is also in good shape at #2 but the next seven carmakers are all in negative. Ford (-2.8%), Toyota (-5.5%) and Dacia (-6.2%) resist best but Mercedes (-10%), Hyundai (-19.2%) and most strikingly Kia (-43.4%) all struggle. Cupra surges 41.1% year-on-year to post a third Top 10 finish in the past four months at #10.

Model-wise, this time Skoda monopolises the Top 6, not the Top 7 as it was the case for the past three months. The culprit is the Superb (-19.5%) down to #9. The Octavia (-11.5%) leads the way above the Kodiaq (+59.5%) ranks at a record #2 for the 4th consecutive month, reaching a new volume record at 1,356. The Fabia (+21.1%) is up two spots on March to #3, leapfrogging past the Kamiq (+5.8%) and Karoq (+6.9%). The Scala (+39.5%) is in excellent shape at #6. The Hyundai i30 (-22.9%) is the best of the rest at #7, distancing the Tucson (+0.7%). Skoda also places the Enyaq (+115.7%) at #10, the nameplate’s first Top 10 finish since December 2020, and the Elroq (-6.1%) at a record #12, also reached inΒ May 2025.

Poland April 2026: Audi Q5 breaks into Top 10

7 May 2026 at 09:48

The Audi Q5 is up to a record 9th place in Poland in April.

51,827 new cars hit Polish roads in April, a solid 10.3% year-on-year improvement. The year-to-date volume after four months is up 7.6% to 203,477. Toyota (-7.9%) isn’t able to surf on the positive market and drops to 13.1% share vs. 14.9% so far this year. Skoda (+5.8%) is catching up but remains far away at 10.1% of the market for the month and 10.6% YTD. Volkswagen (+16.6%) delivers the best performance in the Top 10 and ranks #3 like it does YTD. Hyundai (+13.9%) and Mercedes (+12.5%) also beat the market in the remainder of the Top 10. Further down, BYD (+172.5%), Mazda (+132.3%) and Omoda (+116.3%) make themselves noticed.

Model-wise, the Toyota Corolla (+4.6%) stays on top with 3.4% share, distancing the Skoda Octavia (+14%) by just 45 sales. The Kia Sportage (+29%) is back up to #3 and is the best-selling car with Polish private buyers so far this year. The Toyota C-HR (+10%) and Hyundai Tucson (+58.6%) follow. The Cupra Formentor (+40.9%) and Toyota Yaris Cross (+20.4%) also shoot up, but none as much as the Audi Q5 which according to our records breaks into the Polish Top 10 for the very first time at #9.

Croatia April 2026: Opel Frontera up to record 2nd place

7 May 2026 at 06:38

The Opel Frontera is only outsold by the Skoda Octavia in April.

New car sales in Croatia drop -5.8% year-on-year in April to 8,465 units. However after a strong start of the year the YTD tally is still in positive at +5.2% to 25,203. Skoda (-4%) returns to its traditional pole position in the brands ranking with a strong 12.1% share. It is followed this month by Opel (+82.1%) up two spots on March to #2. Volkswagen (+0.6%) stays at #3 whereas Renault (-42.1%), leader last month and a year ago, is in complete freefall at #4. Hyundai (+3.4%) is the only additional YoY gainer in the Top 10, with Suzuki (-21.7%) and Dacia (-21.1%) hit the hardest. Further down, BYD (+636.8%), MG (+271.7%) and Mini (+204.3%) all post surreal upticks.

Over in the models charts, the Skoda Octavia (-8.2%) is back to #1 with 5.2% share, in line with the 5.1% it commands year-to-date. The new Opel Frontera is the performer of the month, up to a record 2nd place with 4.4% share. It ranks #6 so far this year. The Mokka (+158.6%) makes it two Opel models on the podium. #1 last month and a year ago, the Renault Clio (-50.7%) halves its year-ago sales and falls to #4 but poor results from similarity selling models means it is actually up to #2 year-to-date. First Croatian Top 20 finishes for the Volvo XC40 (#19) and Dacia Bigster (#20).

Previous month: Croatia March 2026: Renault and Clio in the lead, Opel up 119.2%

One year ago: Croatia April 2025: Strongest month in 6 years, Renault dominates again
