Samsung users may soon see exactly which apps are tracking location

Google released the QPR3 Beta 1 update for Pixel phones. The latest Android 16 update introduces a new expandable location tracking indicator, which would end up landing on Samsung and other Android phones in the future.

Android displays an indicator when the phone’s microphone, camera, or location is used. Google has upgraded the location indicator in Android 16 QPR3 Beta 1. The icon is no longer static, but has become expandable with new stuff.

The new location indicator shows up with a solid Blue background. When a location is being used by an app, it will show up in the status bar. Tapping the icon will open an expanded menu in pop-up view with detailed information.

This section will list the app or apps tracking your phone’s location. It all will happen in real time, and you will be able to revoke GPS access. You will have two options for the app using location: Close the app and Manage access.

The Blue indicator will turn Green when the Location is being used along with the mic and/or camera. The color unification will ensure the access indicator won’t grab much space on your phone’s screen or the status bar.

Pixel phones running QPR Beta have received it with the latest release. Since it’s a core Android improvement, it would expand to Samsung phones too. It may show up in One UI 8.5 Stable, otherwise One UI 9 will bring it.

Pay attention, Google first added such an indicator in Android 12. After years, it has made a comeback in Android 16, but the testing is underway. Google may either improve its functionality or dump the indicator again.

According to this source, the Poco M8 Pro will be identical to the upcoming Redmi Note 15 Pro+ in every way bar one. That doesn't make a lot of sense - how can you replace a telephoto camera with a main camera? Poco M7 Pro 5G So...

Exynos 2600 for Galaxy S26 leaks with bold CPU speeds and AMD GPU

New leak paints out the clearest picture yet of the Samsung Exynos 2600 chip for the Galaxy S26 series. An insider has revealed the final specifications of the processor’s CPU, GPU, and other parameters.

Samsung insider PhoneArt (@UniverseIce) revealed the technical specs of the Exynos 2600 chip to be used in the Galaxy S26 series. The silicon seems to be incredibly powerful with a fast CPU and AMD-powered GPU inside.

CPU

Exynos 2600 is a deca-core processor, featuring 10 CPU cores. The AP incorporates a tri-cluster architecture, bringing a prime core clocked at 3.9Ghz, six performance cores clocked at 3.25Ghz  and three efficiency cores clocked at 2.75Ghz.

It’s manufactured using Samsung Foundry’s cutting-edge 2nm process. As compared to the latest chips from Apple, Qualcomm, and MediaTek, Exynos 2600 has a generational edge given its fabrication process.

GPU

The leak says Exynos 2600 features an AMD JUNO-powered GPU @ 985MHz. Samsung could market the graphics processing unit as Xclipse 960 with Vulkan 1.3. Other technical parameters includes Open Gles 3.2 and OpenCL 3.0.

Meanwhile, tipster ErencanYılmaz claims that there are some minor errors in the Exynos 2600 specs leaked by PhoneArt.

As per the screenshots, Exynos 2600’s prime core is clocked at 3.8GHz, peak GPU frequency is 980MHz, and Vulkan version is 1.4. The performance cores and efficiency cores are clocked at 3.26GHz and 2.76GHz, respectively.

Samsung has officially confirmed the Exynos 2600 chipset. The company will soon reveal its new Exynos chipset. It will arrive right before the Galaxy S26 launch; till then, you can take the emerging leaks as a pinch of salt.

Galaxy S26 series could be unveiled in February, and sales begin in March. The Ultra model is being prioritized in mass production, while others are being pushed to early next year. Samsung will also unveil One UI 8.5 with the new phones.

Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold sells out again in Korea, laughably small stock to blame

One way to drive hype about a new product is to supply way less of it than is demanded, and then wait for all the "sold out" headlines to appear. This seems to be exactly what Samsung is doing in Korea with the Galaxy Z TriFold, which already sold out once, in mere minutes, when it first went on sale a few days ago. The company then promised a restock for this week, and this has happened earlier today. Once again, it sold out - in two minutes this time. But here's the thing - reports say the initial stock that sold out the first time was 1,000 units, and the total "initial sales volume"...

Some of the main features of One UI 8.5 include smarter Quick Share, smoother Galaxy AI image generation, improved device connectivity, enhanced lock screen and weather tools, and richer insights in Samsung Health.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 could have capabilities Apple’s Foldable iPhone lacks

Apple is expected to enter the foldable phone market in 2026 with its first foldable iPhone. However, Samsung has already been making foldable phones for several years. Now, a new reports suggest that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 may offer bigger displays and stronger cameras compared to Apple’s first foldable iPhone.

According to a report from Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station, the foldable iPhone may come with a 5.25-inch outer screen and a 7.58-inch inner foldable screen. While this design may look clean and modern, the screen sizes are smaller compared to Samsung’s foldable phones.

The Galaxy Z Fold 7 already offers a 6.5-inch outer display and a large 8-inch inner display. The upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8 is expected to come with similar or slightly larger screens. Larger displays are useful for multitasking, watching videos, playing games, and more.

Source – Samsung US (YouTube)

Aside from the screens, it is also rumored to have two rear cameras and an under-display camera for the inner screen. It will reportedly not include a zoom lens. On the other side, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 has three rear cameras, including a high-resolution 200MP main camera, an ultrawide camera, and a telephoto camera that supports 3x optical zoom.

For selfies, under-display cameras usually do not take photos as clearly as normal front cameras. Samsung uses regular front cameras on both displays, which can give better image quality. The upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8 could offer a stronger camera experience overall.

So, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 may offer bigger screens and better cameras than Apple’s first foldable iPhone. This could keep Samsung ahead in the foldable phone market.

Samsung’s 8nm tech could power Intel’s next PCH chips

Samsung is slowly rebuilding its chip manufacturing business by getting new orders for both advanced and older technologies. While much attention is on its 2nm process, Samsung is also seeing strong demand for its 8nm technology. A new deal with Intel could help Samsung grow further in the global chip market.

The latest information suggests that Samsung is in talks to produce Intel’s PCH chips using its 8nm process. The PCH is an important chip found in computers and servers. It assists the main processor by handling data flow, device connections, and system control.

Earlier, Samsung made these Intel PCH chips using a 14nm process at its factory in Austin, Texas. Now, Intel plans to upgrade the design to Samsung’s 8nm process.

Samsung

The production of this 8nm chip is expected to happen at Samsung’s Hwaseong factory in South Korea. Moving production there could help Samsung better use its domestic facilities. It also shows that Samsung’s Korean plants are playing a bigger role in its foundry business.

Samsung’s 8nm process is already being used by other big companies. The company is making a custom chip designed by Nvidia for Nintendo’s upcoming Switch 2 console. There are also talks that Nvidia may order more affordable graphics chips made with 8nm technology.

In addition, Samsung recently signed a deal with Hyundai Motor Company to produce 8nm chips for cars. At the moment, Samsung can currently produce about 30,000 to 40,000 wafers per month using its 8nm process. This makes up around 9% of its total chip production capacity. Second sale, same story: Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold runs out of stock

Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold sparks frenzy as it runs out of stock instantly in the second sale. The company started the phone’s second sale today, and the story remained the same as the initial sale in South Korea.

Moments after opening the second sale, the Galaxy Z TriFold ran out of stock on the Samsung website. The company has put a notice on the website, thanking buyers for their response and signing up for the restock alert.

Notably, Samsung put TriFold on sale on December 17 at 10 AM in South Korea. The entire stock was sold out within just two minutes. Shoppers were fully prepared to place their order as soon as the window opened.

Galaxy Z TriFold turns out to be a massive success in South Korea. First, the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition impressed with its sales, followed by the Z Fold 7. Now, the company’s new form factor is continuing the legacy.

A notice was posted on the website stating, “Thank you for your support. Our prepared inventory has sold out. If you sign up for a restock notification, we will alert you when more units become available.”

Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold Out of stock

Samsung has also sent out limited units at key retail stores. However, buyers who returned empty-handed on the day of the first sale will be prioritized. You can visit your nearest Samsung store to check if they have TriFold stock left.

The company will now restock the TriFold early next month. A specific date or timeline hasn’t been revealed, but January seems a sweet spot. It will keep the device in headlines and encourage buyers to make a new year purchase.

Samsung supplying iPhone camera tech would mark a stunning rivalry shift

Samsung has almost turned its biggest competitor, Apple, into a client for camera tech supply. A new report sheds light on the achievement of Samsung Electro-Mechanics, which is about to seal a deal, probably with Apple.

ETNews exposed a potential Samsung camera deal with Apple without naming the firm. The Korean tech giant is believed to be securing a mega-scale client, which is a global Big Tech company, pointing to Apple.

The client is a leading Big Tech company in the global IT market with annual shipments reaching hundreds of millions of units. In addition to phones, the company operates businesses in laptops, tablets, wearables, and services.

It’s going to be a bigger deal outside the scope of Samsung Electronics. The company is developing “Fine Pitch (FP) Coils” for actuators. The solutions are usually utilized for autofocusing and optical image stabilization (OIS).

Samsung is still negotiating the volume and pricing with its client. Talks about the supply chain are progressing positively, and the deal will end up being finalized.

In the past, Samsung Electro-Mechanics supplied Multi-Layer Ceramic Capacitors (MLCCs) and semiconductor substrates. However, the collaboration hasn’t grown much as the firm directly competes with Samsung Mobile.

It’s going to be the first time that Samsung Electro-Mechanics will supply camera-related components to the client. To this end, Samsung is partnering with Stemco to facilitate the supply of the camera hardware.

FP Coil features fine-pitch tech to enable significant miniaturization. Samsung will gain tremendous revenue from this supply, which will ultimately expand supplies to actuators, lenses, and full camera modules.

Do We Still Need Dedicated Gaming Phones in 2026?

Red Magic 11 Pro

The year 2025 marked a decisive turning point for mobile gaming. Rapid advances in silicon technology, led by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and Apple’s A19 Pro, fundamentally changed what mainstream smartphones can deliver. Performance gains combined with improved efficiency and AI-assisted upscaling pushed flagship phones into territory once reserved for dedicated gaming hardware. As the industry looks ahead to 2026, the line between a gaming phone and a flagship phone has become increasingly difficult to define.

This convergence raises a pivotal question for 2026: Do niche gaming phones still have a place in the market?

Red Magic 11 Pro

Rise of the All-Rounder Gaming Flagship

Mainstream flagships have closed the performance gap that once separated them from gaming-focused devices. Phones such as the OnePlus 15 and iQOO 15 sustain 120fps gameplay in demanding MOBA and battle royale titles without the frame drops or thermal throttling that plagued earlier generations. These gains are not limited to peak benchmarks but extend to long, uninterrupted gaming sessions.

The iPhone 17 Pro / Pro Max reflects the same shift. Hardware-level cooling upgrades, including a proper vapor chamber system, allow the A19 Pro to maintain high performance for longer periods. These changes address historical limitations such as heat buildup and brightness reduction during extended gameplay.

Flagship phones also offer a level of balance that gaming phones often lack. Camera systems remain a priority, software experiences feel refined for daily use, and long-term update support adds real value. For users who keep their phones for several years, a device that performs well across every scenario makes more sense than one optimized for a single task.

Why Dedicated Gaming Phones Still Exist

Dedicated gaming phones have not vanished, but their relevance has narrowed. Devices like the Red Magic 11 Pro+ target a specific audience that prioritizes sustained peak performance over versatility. Active cooling systems with internal fans and advanced heat dissipation allow these phones to run at maximum output for hours without noticeable performance drops.

Gaming phones also integrate features that mainstream flagships rarely match. Physical shoulder triggers provide precise, low-latency input. Displays push refresh rates beyond 144Hz, paired with extremely high touch sampling rates. Dedicated gaming software enables deep system-level control over performance, thermals, network behavior, and notifications.

These advantages matter most in competitive environments where consistency and responsiveness outweigh everyday convenience.

Gaming Phones in 2026: Niche Over Necessity

For the majority of users, a modern flagship already delivers more gaming performance than required. Phones like the OnePlus 15, iQOO 15, and iPhone 17 Pro Max provide stable frame rates, controlled thermals, and a polished daily experience that extends well beyond gaming.

Dedicated gaming phones now serve a narrow group of esports players and enthusiasts who treat gaming as a primary use case. For everyone else, gaming has become a standard capability of premium smartphones rather than a defining category.

As silicon efficiency continues to improve and brands focus on sustained performance instead of short-lived benchmark peaks, the concept of the gaming phone is shifting. In 2026, gaming is no longer a niche feature. It is an expected part of the flagship experience.

Ai+ Nova Flip teased as the brand’s first flip-style foldable in India

Ai+, the smartphone brand led by Madhav Sheth, is preparing to step into the foldable phone space in India. The company has officially teased its first flip-style foldable smartphone, called the NovaFlip, marking a new direction for the young brand.

The teaser was shared by Madhav Sheth himself on X, where he posted a short video along with the lines “Some things are better when flipped”. The video carries the tagline “SEE YOU ON THE FLIP SIDE” and ends with a clear “Coming Soon” message, confirming that the launch isn’t too far away.

While Ai+ Smartphone hasn’t revealed specifications yet, the teaser does give us a brief look at the phone’s design. The NovaFlip appears in a Silver or Grey finish and looks clean and minimal. On the right side, the volume buttons sit above a power key that also seems to house a fingerprint scanner. Interestingly, the power button is highlighted with a red accent, which adds a bit of contrast to the otherwise muted colour scheme. Antenna lines can also be seen along the frame, and the camera module slightly sticks out from the back panel.

More details are expected to surface in the coming days as Ai+ continues its teaser campaign. The NovaFlip will be the brand’s third smartphone overall, following the launch of the Pulse and Nova 5G in July. Recently, both of those phones also received a new Red colour option, expanding on the five colours they were originally available in.

With the NovaFlip, Ai+ Smartphone is clearly looking to tap into the growing interest around foldable phones in India. The brand is likely positioning the phone as a more accessible alternative to premium flip phones from Samsung and Motorola — a segment that’s still fairly niche in India.

How Snapdragon 8 Elite is Raising the Bar for Tablets

Xiaomi Pad 8 Pro

Tablets are faster than ever before, and at the heart of this improvement is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite. Borrowing the powerful chipset from flagship smartphones, the 8 Elite powers premium tablets from various brands, promising not just faster performance but smarter efficiency and next-gen AI capabilities. But does this chip truly move the needle for tablets? From productivity to gaming, here’s a quick breakdown of what makes the Snapdragon 8 Elite special and why it could be a defining platform for high end tablets.

What’s Under the Hood: A Performance and Efficiency Beast

At its core, the Snapdragon 8 Elite brings a substantial evolution over its predecessors. Built on TSMC’s 3nm process with Qualcomm’s custom Oryon CPU architecture, it offers a significant uplift in raw processing power. Compared to its predecessor, it offers up to a 45 percent jump in CPU performance, while also cutting power consumption.

This all-new architecture isn’t just about peak performance. It’s designed so that tablets can sustain heavier workloads like editing and gaming. For tablet users, that means apps and services feel snappier and more responsive across the board.

Gaming and Graphics

One of the most striking advancements of the Elite platform is its Adreno GPU. With roughly 40 % faster graphical performance and enhanced efficiency, it brings console-like visuals to mobile devices. Games that once struggled on tablets can now run at higher fidelity, smoother frame rates, and with improved hardware accelerated ray-tracing support. This marks a real level-up for tablets that double as portable gaming rigs.

For Android tablets, this isn’t just about benchmarks. It’s about delivering deeper, richer experiences in high fidelity titles. Fans of esports titles like COD Mobile can now hit triple digit frame rate, which translates to a more smoother gameplay experience that gives a competitive edge.

Smarter Tablets Through On-Device AI

Apart from just raw speed, the Snapdragon 8 Elite flexes its AI prowess. The Hexagon Neural Processing Unit (NPU) is dramatically more capable, offering up to 45 percent faster AI performance per watt than previous generations. What does this mean in practice? Expect more responsive voice assistants, enhanced real-time language translation, smarter photography, and on-device generative AI that doesn’t require the cloud. Tablet makers can leverage this for everything from adaptive UI features to smarter multitasking.

Xiaomi 17 Ultra camera watermarks point to new Leica branding for global markets

Xiaomi 17 Ultra triple camera sensors confirmed

Camera watermark leaks are offering an early look at Xiaomi’s upcoming Xiaomi 17 Ultra, and they suggest changes to both branding and camera hardware. The details appear to come from internal testing builds.

Xiaomi 17 Ultra triple camera sensors confirmed

One notable point is the naming. In China, the phone is expected to launch as Xiaomi 17 Ultra by Leica, which fits Xiaomi’s current branding. Outside China, however, the watermark references Leitzphone powered by Xiaomi, hinting at a different name for global markets. Xiaomi hasn’t confirmed whether this branding will be used at launch, but the Leitzphone name lines up with a previous leak.

Model numbers also line up with this split. Xiaomi 17 Ultra variants are listed under codes 2512BPNDAG, 2512BPNDAI, and 2512BPNDAC, while the Leitzphone-powered models carry separate identifiers, including 25128PNA1G and 25128PNA1C.

The camera setup also appears to have changed since earlier leaks. Instead of a quad-camera layout, recent leaks point to a triple-camera system. The main camera is said to use a 50MP OmniVision OVX10500U (OV50X) Light Hunter 1050U sensor with a 1-inch format. It’s joined by a 50MP ultra-wide camera using Samsung’s S5KJN5 sensor and a single 200MP telephoto camera based on the S5KHPE sensor.

For reference, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra used a dual telephoto setup: a 50MP IMX858 (1/2.51-inch) sensor for 70mm shots, alongside a 200MP Samsung HP9 (1/1.4-inch) sensor at 100mm. It’s still unclear how Xiaomi plans to compensate for the missing 70mm telephoto this time.

Up front, the selfie camera is listed at 50MP, up from 32MP on the previous Ultra model. Powering the phone is likely to be Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip, which should bring more room for AI-assisted image processing.

As always with early leaks, details could still change. That said, the watermark data suggests Xiaomi is finalizing both the camera hardware and how the 17 Ultra will be branded in different regions.

OnePlus Turbo series may redefine performance smartphones

OnePlus-Ace-6T

Yesterday, OnePlus President Li Jie Louis confirmed that the brand will unveil the all-new OnePlus Turbo series in January 2026 in China. While the company has not officially revealed full specifications yet, multiple credible sources suggest that the upcoming series will target users who prioritize sustained performance and endurance. A recent leak by tipster Digital Chat Station has shared few more details about the new series

OnePlus Turbo series: What to expect?

According to DCS, the OnePlus Turbo series will introduce a newly developed native 165Hz refresh rate display. This panel is said to be exclusive within its price category and has reportedly been redesigned with larger rounded corners for improved visual consistency. Unlike previously used high-refresh panels, this screen is believed to be a fresh implementation rather than a reused solution.

The device is tipped to run on a Snapdragon 8-series chipset, with several reports pointing towards a customised Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 variant, also referred to as a performance-tuned version. Built on a 4nm process, the platform is said to work alongside OnePlus’ in-house gaming optimization engine, enabling better thermal control and more stable output during extended gaming sessions.

Other reports indicate that the phone may pack a battery close to the 9,000mAh range, a figure rarely seen in performance-focused smartphones. OnePlus President has previously hinted that the Turbo series will deliver unusually strong performance and battery life for its segment, positioning it directly against similarly priced performance-centric phones.

Why You Should Be Excited for the Vivo X300 FE

Vivo S50 Pro Mini

Compact smartphones took off this year with a rising trend of devices that are easier to hold and use with one hand. In particular, small premium phones were quite popular with various brands launching their own offerings. Earlier this year, we got the Vivo X200 FE that blended high end specs, capable cameras, and a massive battery in a compact form factor. Now with the release of the Vivo S50 Pro Mini, the successor might be even better. So here’s everything you need to know.

Vivo S50 Pro Mini
Vivo S50 Pro Mini

Vivo S50 Pro Mini: Design & Display

To recall, the Vivo S30 Pro Mini debuted in China in May 2025, with this model getting rebranded as the Vivo X200 FE model for the global market. Considering how the X200 Pro Mini didn’t see a wider release, this was the first taste of a premium compact phone from Vivo. So we expect the brand to make a similar move for the next gen model as well. The S50 Pro Mini just launched with a big design overhaul earlier this week.

Gone is the vertically stacked camera module and the contrasting frame. You now get an iPhone Air inspired horizontal camera island and a metallic frame that blends with the color panel. Meaning, the Vivo X200 FE is also getting a similar new look along with an IP68 + IP69 rating for water and dust resistance. The device could measure just 8.1mm thick and weigh around 192 grams.

Meanwhile, the X300 FE likely sports an identical 6.31-inch LTPO AMOLED display with a 1.5K resolution (2640 x 1216p), a 120Hz refresh rate, 5000 nits of peak brightness, 4320Hz PWM dimming, and an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner for security.

Faster Performance

The older Vivo X200 FE was a premium phone but packed an older MediaTek Dimensity 9300+ SoC, which was already a generation behind the Dimensity 9400 and Snapdragon 8 Elite. But its successor is bringing a notable upgrade in performance thanks to Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 8 Gen 5. In terms of performance, this chip is on par with the Snapdragon 8 Elite. So you get a true flagship experience. The S50 Pro Mini paired the processor with up to 16GB of LPDDR5X Ultra RAM and 512GB of UFS 4.1 storage.

Impressive Battery Now Meets Wireless Charging

The Vivo X200 FE impressed with its massive 6,500mAh battery pack, which returned on the new S50 Pro Mini, and by extension, the X300 FE as well. Battery capacity and the 90W wired fast charging remain unchanged between the two generations. But this time around, Vivo included 40W wireless fast charging, which makes it in line with other premium compact phones in the market.

Zeiss Camera Tuning

Vivo barely made any changes in the camera department, bringing back the same 50MP triple cameras. Although, Zeiss could be the big game changer here. The one big difference between the S30 Pro Mini and X200 FE was the Zeiss branding on the rear and tuning on the camera system. So the brand may once again bring back the collaboration to make the Vivo X300 FE more in line with the flagship X300 series.

Health Connect on Android Is Testing Alcohol Intake Tracking and Medical Records Support

Google Health Connect

Google is building Health Connect into something much bigger than a fitness tracker. As per a new report from Mishaal Rehman (via Android Authority), the company is adding medical records and symptom tracking in upcoming Android versions, trying to catch up to Apple Health’s ten-year head start.

Google Health Connect

Health Connect launched in 2022 to fix Android’s messy health data problem. Before this, fitness apps kept their own data, and users had to manage permissions separately for each one. Health Connect creates a single place where apps can read and write health data after users grant permission. It started with about 40 data types for fitness and wellness.

Google’s November Android Canary release show where Google is headed. Upcoming Android 16 versions will added support for medical records like allergies, vaccinations, and lab results. It also added yoga and meditation sessions. Android 16 QPR2 brought native step tracking. This is the first time Google collected health data directly instead of pulling it from other apps.

Google won’t share user numbers, but Health Connect now comes preinstalled on most phones running Android 14 or newer. Hundreds of apps have added support, including Fitbit, Samsung Health, Google Fit, Nike Run Club, MyFitnessPal, Oura, and Peloton. Developers like it because it cuts down their work and meets Android’s privacy rules.

The interface is getting simpler. As per findings by Rahman, Android Canary builds show a redesigned settings page that lists connected apps first instead of recent data access. Users can now grant or block entire categories of data instead of toggling each type individually. Google removed icons and separate browsing pages, putting everything on one screen.

Google is preparing to add alcohol tracking and a long list of symptoms: different pain types, digestive problems, breathing issues, sleep troubles, and heart symptoms. With medical record support already live, Health Connect is becoming a full health data system, not just a fitness tool.

Apple Health still leads by a wide margin. It’s been on every iPhone for over a decade and works closely with Apple Watch, hospitals, and insurance companies. Samsung Health and Fitbit are still popular, but both now use Health Connect to share data with other apps.

Looki L1 wearable AI camera

Looki has launched its new AI-powered wearable, the Looki L1, in the Chinese market. The device was introduced to global markets earlier this year. The company describes it as an ‘AI life manager’ designed to passively record everyday moments and automatically generate vlogs. It is priced at 1,499 yuan ($212) in China.

Looki L1 wearable AI camera

Looki L1 Specifications

The launch comes at a time when interest in AI-first hardware is growing, especially following reports about OpenAI’s upcoming hardware project. While details about OpenAI’s device remain limited, the Looki L1 gives an early look at what this new category of AI wearables could resemble. The product focuses on hands-free, always-on recording paired with AI-driven content organization, an approach that aligns closely with recent discussions around future AI companions.

According to Looki, the L1 automatically records daily life while prioritizing user privacy. All data is stored locally by default, and content is uploaded to the cloud only after the user grants permission. The device supports AI-generated vlogs, AI-powered smart search, and so-called personal life insights through Looki AI, which aim to help users better understand patterns in their daily routines over time.

Looki L1 wearable AI camera

In terms of design, the Looki L1 is compact and lightweight. It measures 50.53 × 16.84 × 48.02 mm and weighs just 32 grams, making it suitable for long hours of wear. Looki uses soft, skin-friendly materials to improve comfort and reduce fatigue during all-day use. The device also carries an IP67 rating for water and dust resistance, allowing it to handle daily outdoor conditions. It is available in black, white, and green color options.

Looki has equipped the device with a wide-angle camera featuring a 16mm-equivalent lens with an f/2.2 aperture and a 109-degree field of view. It supports 4K photo capture and 1080p video recording at 30 frames per second. The camera includes electronic image stabilization and HDR capabilities to handle varying lighting conditions.

The device features a triple-microphone array with intelligent noise reduction, which helps improve voice clarity and capture ambient sound more accurately. It also includes a 1W built-in speaker paired with a Smart PA system for voice feedback and AI-driven audio interactions.

Looki L1 wearable AI camera

In terms of storage and connectivity, the Looki L1 features 32GB of internal storage and saves data locally by default. It supports Bluetooth 5.0 and dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4GHz and 5GHz), and includes a six-axis gyroscope for motion sensing and scene detection.

The device runs on a 375mAh battery that charges fully in about 1.5 hours. Battery performance varies based on the recording mode. Looki claims up to 9 hours of use when recording 5 seconds per minute, 11 hours for 9 seconds every two minutes, and 13 hours for 11 seconds every three minutes.

In related news, Leica has recently introduced the Q3 Monochrom, a new 60MP black-and-white compact camera, and also announced the SL3 Reporter, a full-frame camera that supports 8K video, features in-body image stabilization, and uses an aramid fiber build.

DJI’s next Ronin gimbal could be a bigger upgrade than expected

DJI appears to be gearing up for another major update to its Ronin lineup, and early leaks suggest the upcoming RS 5 may bring more than just minor refinements. Based on newly surfaced details, DJI’s first fifth-generation Ronin gimbal could deliver meaningful improvements over both the RS 4 and the RS 4 Pro, especially in battery life and day-to-day usability.

The latest information comes from leaker Igor Bogdanov, who suggests the RS 5 is positioned firmly as a professional-grade device. If accurate, it would sit above the current RS 4 series and address some of the long-standing pain points filmmakers have had with power and setup efficiency. This lines up with DJI’s busy roadmap, with products like the Avata 360 and Osmo Pocket 4 also expected down the line.

The FCC listing for the RS 5 previously revealed a noticeably larger battery — nearly 60% bigger than the RS 4’s, and even over 10% larger than the RS 4 Pro’s. According to Bogdanov, this should result in around a 15% real-world boost in battery life, which could make a real difference during longer shoots. Fast charging also seems to be part of the package, with the gimbal reportedly able to fully recharge in about one hour.

DJI also appears to be refining the user experience. The RS 5 is said to include a new Z-axis indicator, a small but potentially useful addition that could make balancing faster and less fiddly. Despite the internal changes, the gimbal is still rated for a 3 kg payload, keeping it compatible with a wide range of camera mirrorless and cinema camera setups. There are also mentions of improved intelligent tracking and composition features, though DJI hasn’t shared any specifics yet.

As for launch timing, nothing is confirmed. If DJI sticks to its usual patterns, the RS 5 could debut sometime between late February and early April 2026.

Thunderobot teases lightweight 16-inch gaming laptop ahead of CES 2026

Thunderobot has begun teasing a new gaming laptop ahead of CES 2026, and early details point to an unusual mix of high-end hardware and low weight. The upcoming model, called the Thunderobot Zero Air, is expected to be officially unveiled at the show next month.

According to the teaser, the Zero Air weighs around 1.6 kg, which is fairly light for a 16-inch gaming laptop. The laptop features a 16-inch display and includes a built-in number pad, suggesting it’s aimed at users who want a balance between gaming and productivity.

On the hardware side, Thunderobot appears to be targeting next-generation components. Casio G-Shock vs Pro Trek in 2026: Which Smart Outdoor Watch Is Right for You?

Casio Pro Trek PRW-61SS-2

Casio has reshaped the idea of a smart outdoor watch by focusing on reliability rather than chasing full smartwatch experiences. As brands like Apple, Samsung, and Garmin continue to expand connected features, Casio has doubled down on its strength in building dependable tools for outdoor use.

Its two flagship lines, G-Shock and Pro Trek, have added smarter capabilities while remaining grounded in distinct design philosophies. One favors brute toughness. The other leans into environmental awareness. Here’s a detailed breakdown of how their smartest features compare in 2026.

Casio Pro Trek PRW-61SS-2

Core Philosophies

Casio has long split its outdoor-focused watches into two clear categories. G-Shock places absolute durability and everyday resilience at the center, with designs built to handle shock, vibration, water exposure, and rough use as part of their core identity.

This philosophy traces back to the brand’s origins in the 1980s, when G-Shock was created as a watch that could survive repeated drops. Over time, that foundation expanded to include advanced shock resistance, 200-meter water resistance, and strict durability standards that made G-Shock a common choice for military use, fieldwork, and extreme sports.

Pro Trek follows a different philosophy. It presents itself as a dedicated outdoor instrument, with sensor systems and interface decisions aimed at users who need more than toughness alone. The ABC sensor suite remains a defining feature in 2026, combining an altimeter, barometer, and digital compass, alongside temperature readings and activity tracking features such as step counting.

Smarter Sensing and Navigation

Pro Trek continues to hold an edge in this area. Its triple sensor system delivers real-time environmental readings directly on the wrist, without relying on a connected phone. Altitude tracking supports climbs, barometric data helps anticipate weather changes, and the digital compass assists with trail navigation. These functions cater to users who spend long stretches outdoors. Bluetooth connectivity further improves the experience by enabling detailed data logging and smoother syncing with trail and weather apps.

G-Shock remains close behind, particularly within the Master of G lineup. Models such as the Rangeman include altimeter, barometer, and compass sensors, with select variants also adding GPS, heart-rate monitoring, and activity tracking. The difference lies in presentation. G-Shock organizes these tools around a durability-first design, pairing rugged interfaces with a feature set that still supports serious outdoor use.

Power and Connectivity

Both lineups rely on Tough Solar charging. Casio’s high-efficiency solar cells allow the watches to run for months with minimal power drain, reducing concerns about battery life during long trips off-grid. Bluetooth smartphone syncing is now standard on many mid and high-end models in both series, enabling automatic time calibration, data logging, and notification alerts.

Where the two differ is in how they handle access to features. Pro Trek focuses on clear sensor readouts and quick access, often using dedicated buttons for the altimeter, barometer, and compass.

G-Shock, in contrast, sometimes places these functions deeper within its interface, requiring users to cycle through modes using a single button. This trade-off helps G-Shock models maintain better shock resistance or accommodate extra tools like tide graphs and moon phase indicators that cater to surfers and marine users.

Wearability and Everyday Use

The contrast is most visible in size and overall styling. Pro Trek watches usually appear slimmer and more refined, while G-Shock models favor a thicker, more rugged build. This distinction matters for people who want a watch that works in everyday urban settings as well as outdoors. Enthusiast discussions frequently point to this ergonomic difference. Pro Trek leans toward more wearable, daily-friendly dimensions, while G-Shock opts for a bold, statement-focused design.

Which Smart Features Matter More?

For pure outdoor tooling, quick access to precise environmental data, dedicated sensor buttons, and lighter wearability, Pro Trek still edges ahead for hikers, climbers, and nature explorers. Its sensor suite is intuitive and centered on exploration.

For all-around rugged tech, resilience that can handle construction sites, surf breaks, or a motorcycle crash as easily as a trail, plus a wide range of smart tools, G-Shock brings versatile features with equally compelling smarts. Master of G models especially blur the line between analog toughness and digital intelligence.

In 2026, both lines offer plenty for tech-savvy adventurers. Choosing between them comes down to whether you prefer the pure outdoor sensor focus of Pro Trek or the indestructible, tech-packed adaptability of G-Shock.

DDR5 RAM prices could cool in six months, says Sapphire PR manager

DDR5 memory prices have climbed sharply in recent months, raising concerns among PC builders and gamers. While many expect the situation to drag on for years, a senior figure from Sapphire believes the spike may not last as long as feared.

Speaking on The Hardware Unboxed Podcast, Sapphire PR manager Edward Crisler addressed the current DRAM situation and urged buyers not to panic. According to Crisler, some of the recent price increases appear to be driven by uncertainty rather than actual supply shortages.

Crisler said DDR5 prices are currently “unreasonable” and could discourage people from building or upgrading PCs altogether. He warned that sustained high memory costs don’t just affect RAM sales but can also hurt demand for other components, including motherboards, cases, and graphics cards.

Despite that, he struck a more optimistic tone on timing. Crisler suggested that prices could begin to stabilize in six to eight months, arguing that vendors are reacting defensively to market conditions. He compared the situation to past pricing reactions around US tariffs, where companies raised prices in anticipation of disruption, even when supply wasn’t immediately affected.

That outlook runs counter to many industry forecasts. Several analysts expect elevated memory prices to continue well beyond 2026, largely due to limited production expansion from major suppliers such as Samsung and SK Hynix, which are prioritizing higher-margin AI and data center demand.

Even if prices remain high, Crisler believes PC enthusiasts will adapt, as they have during previous shortages. He pointed to past periods where builders held onto older hardware longer or adjusted system specs rather than paying inflated prices.

For now, his advice is simple: avoid panic buying. Whether prices ease in months or stay elevated longer, the DDR5 market remains volatile, and buyers may be better off waiting for clearer signals before making major purchases.

Galaxy S25 FE begins One UI 8.5 testing: Will it join Beta testing?

Samsung has started internal One UI 8.5 testing on the Galaxy S25 FE. The company has recently started a public Beta Program for the mainstream models, and plenty of Galaxy devices have already joined internal testing.

One UI 8.5 testing begins early on Galaxy S25 FE, signaling that Samsung has improved its software development mechanism. The new Fan Edition phone joins the growing list of devices that have started internal testing.

The latest internal test build is S731BXXU3BYLD, which bumps the software alphabet A to the fourth last place. The device launched with One UI 8.0 preinstalled, and the One UI 8.5 update won’t be the first OS upgrade.

Is it a sign of Beta Program?

Samsung is unlikely to invite Galaxy S25 FE for One UI 8.5 Beta testing. The device belongs to Fan Edition portfolio, which usually receives Stable updates. A surprise may come later, but don’t expect a Beta Program anytime soon.

On December 8, Samsung launched the One UI 8.5 Beta Program and provided the first Beta update to the Galaxy S25 series. The company plans to release the official version with the upcoming Galaxy S series in 2026.

As of now, Samsung hasn’t dropped hints to expand the Beta Program. Galaxy S25 series is the only eligible lineup, for now, but we may witness an expansion in the near future. It’s also possible that Samsung will push a stable version.

One UI 8.5 is an excellent update for Samsung phones. It brings the best of Android 16, i.e., Expressive design, and takes inspiration from Apple’s iOS 26.

Samsung has refreshed the user interface with dynamic tweaks, redesigned apps, tweaked various UI components and elements, boosted customization capabilities, simplified accessibility and added an array of new features.

Samsung Galaxy S26 may escape 2026 smartphone market dip

Smartphone shipments may decline in 2026, yet the Samsung Galaxy S26 series is expected to escape the dip.

In a recent development, analysts at Counterpoint Research have revised their shipment estimates for the 2026 smartphone market. It’s reported that the bill of materials costs would see a steep hike of up to 30 percent.

Apple and Samsung are best positioned to weather the next few quarters. Other vendors, mainly Chinese phone makers, will find it difficult to escape as they don’t have as much wiggle room to manage market share versus profit margins.

Prices of memory could continue to rise, and a 40 percent increase is expected through Q2 2026. This factor alone has the potential to negatively impact the BoM costs between 8% and over 15% above current elevated levels.

It’s going to hit the worldwide smartphone market in terms of shipments, phone makers with increased BoM costs, and even consumers who may need to spend more on their next purchase in 2026 and the years ahead.

Specifically, the BoM hike would hurt mid-range and budget phones way more than premium ones. Samsung is likely to avoid the worst for its Galaxy S26 series, which is slated to launch by the end of February next year.

“What we are seeing now is the low end of the market (below $200) being impacted most severely, with BoM (bill of materials) costs increasing by 20%-30% since the beginning of the year,” said Research Director MS Hwang. “The market’s mid- and high-end segments have seen 10%-15% price increases.”

Counterpoint Research has also revised the average selling prices (ASPs) to increase by 6.9 percent in 2026. Researchers earlier predicted 3.9 percent in their previous ASP forecast released in September 2025.

“In the lower price bands, steep price increases on smartphones are not sustainable,” said Senior Analyst Yang Wang. “And if cost pass-through isn’t possible, OEMs will start pruning parts of their portfolios – that’s actually what we are starting to see with significantly reduced volumes of low-end SKUs.”

iPhone Air 2 once again rumored to gain a second rear camera, maybe even a lower price

An intriguing new rumor today confirms that there will be an iPhone Air 2 (even though it may only arrive in spring 2027), and it will add a second camera. This was first rumored last month, and it's nice to get a 'confirmation' of sorts (as much as any rumor can count as that). While today's report doesn't mention what the second camera will be, the rumor from November did - an ultrawide. That kind of makes sense since the main camera can crop zoom to 2x with decent results, but there's no way for it to simulate a wider field of view. The iPhone Air 2 is also said to be cheaper...

One UI 8.5 reintroduces lost features in a wild new form

Samsung is set to arm Camera Assistant with new and lost features in One UI 8.5. On the 8th, the company released the first One UI 8.5 Beta for the Galaxy S25 series, and users noticed two key camera features were missing.

The features were slated to be reinstated in the following Beta builds, but the camera moderator disclosed what’s actually coming next.

Next-gen Camera Assistant is coming

Samsung just confirmed an upgraded Camera Assistant is coming. Galaxy users on One UI 8.5 Beta will likely be able to get it on Beta 2. It won’t just bring back lost camera features but also debut a new way to capture.

Single Take and Dual Recording

Camera Assistant may bring one or two toggles to enable and disable Single Take and Dual Recording features. It will be supported on One UI 8.5 Beta 2 firmware, which is expected to be available around December 22.

Single Take and Dual Recording aren’t available in the One UI 8.5 firmware for Galaxy devices. The two features have a specific user base given their functionalities. Samsung confirmed it’s bringing both back with the second Beta.

New “Custom option for professional shooting”

Samsung moderator also teased a new “Custom option for professional shooting.” The Camera Assistant app will carry this feature as a new addition.

The camera moderator hasn’t provided detailed info about this new function. We assume it would be a new menu within the app to activate and turn off certain camera tools, like Single Take and Dual Recording.

Apart from the two, the new menu may also bring some new tools to elevate the Galaxy camera. The final testing is underway, and Samsung advised users to wait a “little while longer.”

Samsung Galaxy S26 and S26 Plus camera gap could grow for the first time

The difference between Galaxy S26 and S26 Plus could widen further in 2026 as Samsung is reportedly testing a new camera path for the latter model.

New findings (via ErencanYılmaz) suggest that Samsung is still testing a new camera setup for the Galaxy S26 Plus. The company may have been considering a different camera module for the Plus model, while keeping the base intact.

Samsung has been testing the Galaxy S26 series for a couple of months now. The company probably has two camera configurations on the table. It’s said that the third setup with sensor recycle hasn’t been added for the Galaxy S26 Plus.

Earlier, Korea’s TheElec reported that Samsung has canceled camera upgrades for the Galaxy S26 to keep the price unchanged. The fact remains true that the report didn’t mention the “Plus” model in the entire news post.

Galaxy S26 may use the same camera as the S25, but the S26 Plus may improve at least two sensors. Samsung is expected to bring S5KGNG and S5K3LD cameras to the Plus version next year, improving the imaging capabilities.

New Cameras:

  • Main – 50MP ISOCELL S5KGNG (replacing 50MP ISOCELL S5KGN3)
  • Telephoto – 12MP ISOCELL S5K3LD (replacing 10MP ISOCELL S5K3K1)

Even though Samsung upgrades the S26 Plus camera, the Ultrawide and Front sensors may remain the same as the S25 and S25 Plus. The new 12MP Telephoto may not be fully utilized, but trimmed down to 10MP resolution.

For years, Samsung used to keep minimal hardware differences between its Galaxy S Standard and Plus models. We’ve seen the main distinction in screen size, battery, and charging, but it’s probably widening with the camera module in 2026.

Android’s new Wi-Fi settings to give you more control over shared devices

Android is reportedly working on providing more controls over Wi-Fi sharing on devices with numerous user profiles. The new update will let you choose which Wi-Fi networks you share with others to make it easier to keep particular networks private.

At the moment, when you switch between profiles on an Android device, Wi-Fi networks are automatically shared with everyone. Like, if one user connects to Wi-Fi, all other users on the device can access it without entering their passwords again. But it can cause privacy issues if you want some networks to be secure.

For that, Android is introducing (spotted via Mishaal Rahman) a new Wi-Fi setting called the “Share network” toggle. This will allow you to decide if other profiles on the device can automatically connect to the Wi-Fi network. If you turn this setting off, other users won’t be able to use the network unless they enter the password themselves.

There’s also another setting, “Allow users to edit network”, that allows you to manage whether other users can update Wi-Fi settings. However, this feature is currently under development and might not be available just yet.

This new functionality is now in the Canary channel and is likely to be included in the next Android version, probably Android 16 QPR3 beta. It might expand to more devices once available. Stay tuned for more information.

Samsung OLED displays to feature in Ferrari’s new car models

Samsung Display is reportedly collaborating with Ferrari, a renowned Italian car manufacturer, to integrate OLED screens into its upcoming vehicles. This partnership aims to make Ferrari’s car interiors more modern and high-tech. The new OLED screens will allow Ferrari to design a sleeker, more beautiful cabin.

After testing several display alternatives, Ferrari decided on Samsung OLED. The main advantages of OLEDs are that they take up less space, are lighter, and can be shaped into bespoke shapes. This offers Ferrari more freedom to customize the dashboard and display without losing performance or elegance.

With OLED, Ferrari can now design displays in unique shapes, not just the usual rectangular ones. This means the screen can fit perfectly with the car’s design to make the interior look even more balanced and user-friendly.

Samsung conductive Key button patent

With this collaboration, Ferrari is all set to deliver a more high-tech and stylish driving experience with its next-generation cars.

Zin-U Pak, head of Samsung Display’s Europe business team, said (via Chosun):

“When thinking of the world’s most iconic high-performance sports car, the brand that comes to mind first is undoubtedly Ferrari. Ferrari has defined what excellence in motorsports is. Both Ferrari’s cars and its brand embody passion, relentless innovation, and the will to be the best, which deeply aligns with the values Samsung Display pursues.”

Samsung may revive a forgotten Galaxy S9 camera feature

Samsung is reportedly planning to bring back an old camera feature that many people have forgotten. New information suggests that the company is testing a variable aperture camera for a future Galaxy phone. This is the same feature that appeared on the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ back in 2018.

A reliable tipter, Digital Chat Station, shared this camera information on the Chinese platform Weibo. The post claims Samsung is experimenting with variable aperture designs for better and more natural results.

The reason Samsung is looking into this feature again may be because Apple is expected to introduce a similar camera upgrade on its iPhone Pro models in 2026. To stay competitive, Samsung could be preparing its own version ahead of time.

The aperture is the opening within a camera lens that allows light to reach the sensor. A wide aperture lets in more light, allowing for brighter photographs and a hazy background look. A narrow aperture allows less light in while keeping more of the image in focus.

Most smartphone cameras today have a fixed aperture and rely on software to adjust photos. A variable aperture, however, changes physically to give natural results without heavy image processing.

Samsung already used this variable aperture camera on the Galaxy S9 and S9+. Those phones could switch between f/1.5 and f/2.4 aperture settings. The wide option was helpful for night photos, while the narrow one worked better in bright light. Users didn’t need complex settings to benefit from it.

Currently, there’s no confirmation about bringing back variable aperture cameras. So, we have to wait for Samsung’s official confirmation.

Gemini to introduce new categories in ‘My Stuff’ for easier access

Google is working on some updates for its Gemini app that will make it easier to use and more organized. Gemini is a tool that helps you create images, documents, and other content. Right now, everything you make is saved in one place, My Stuff. Soon, this section may be split into separate categories for media, documents, and purchases.

At the moment, all your creations are shown together in a single list, which can feel a little crowded. The new design will separate your photos and videos from your documents.

There may also be a new section – Purchases, to keep track of items you’ve bought using Gemini’s shopping feature. This change should make it much easier to find anything you’ve made or bought.

These new changes show that Google wants Gemini to be more organized and easier to use. These updates are still in development and will soon improve the overall Gemini experience. Stay tuned.

Google Messages testing a cleaner look for Remix feature

Google is making changes to the Remix feature in its Messages app after many users complained about it. The Remix feature lets users edit photos directly in chats, but its large button over images caused frustration. Several users reported that the button was too big, blocked photos, and could not be turned off.

In a recent beta update of the Google Messages app, Google seems to be listening to the feedback. A teardown of the update via AssembleDebug shows that the Remix button has been moved to less annoying spots in the app.

The Remix button now appears in menus that make more sense depending on where you are in the app, instead of showing up directly on images. In the attachment screen, the Remix button has been moved to the left of the caption field.

Google Messages Remix feature

Moreover, the Remix button has been pushed down to the bottom-left corner of the screen in the full view of photos. These changes make the Remix button less noticeable. But still, there is no way to turn it off.

Currently, it’s unclear whether these changes will be rolled out to everyone. However, these changes show Google is paying attention to complaints and trying to make the feature more useful and less annoying.

Now, owners of the S24 and S25 can make adjustments while seeing the full range of brightness and detail on their screens. Before this update, users could not fully edit HDR photos in Lightroom, even though the hardware supported it.

Owners of the Galaxy S24 series, who have waited for this HDR capability since the phone’s launch in early 2024, will find it particularly useful. The Galaxy S25 series, released in early 2025, gets the feature right away.

More enhancements

Users can now create customized albums directly in the app and share them through a unique link or QR code. The best part: you don’t need to subscribe to the premium tier to gain access to this useful sharing functionality.

Additionally, the latest Adobe Lightroom app update includes support for additional cameras and lenses. This improves compatibility with newer devices and ensures better raw file handling and lens corrections.

These changes make Lightroom a stronger tool for mobile photographers using Samsung’s flagship devices. The combination of powerful phone cameras and professional-grade editing options continues to improve.

The update is available now on the Google Play Store and Galaxy Store for compatible Samsung phones.

Changelog:

  • Now, you can go seamlessly from editing to sharing customized photo albums of your favorite moments via a unique link or QR code, no subscription required.
  • Edit in HDR on Samsung Galaxy S24 and S25.
  • New camera & lens support.
  • Bug fixes and stability improvements.

Samsung makes a bold move for its Taylor foundry

Samsung is stepping up its efforts to streamline the operations of its Taylor foundry. The company has reportedly finalized the firm, which will ensure the logistics for precursors supplied to the Texas chip plant in the US.

TheElec reports that Samsung tapped Lake Materials to handle the logistics of raw materials for its Taylor foundry. While the facility is set up in the US, the company is prioritizing Korea-based firms in the supply chain.

Samsung has internally decided to authorize Lake Materials with the logistics and transportation of precursors to be used at the Taylor plant. The company has also reportedly notified relevant partners of this directive.

Lake Materials is expected to benefit if it gets officially finalized by Samsung.

An industry insider said, “Samsung has informed us to route the precursors for the Taylor fab process through Lake,” adding, “Major semiconductor precursor suppliers such as DNF and Hansol Chemical are also aware of this.”

Samsung is ramping up its efforts to turn the Taylor fab operational. The company has recently secured massive orders from Tesla, Apple, and Nvidia. Tesla’s AI chips will be manufactured at the Texas semiconductor fab.

To this end, Samsung will start establishing equipment in the factory early next year. Late Materials will have to set up logistics hubs in both South Korea and the US to align with the plant’s operational schedule.

  • South Korea – Collection and shipment of the materials from the precursor manufacturers.
  • US – Handling local warehouse operations and delivery management.

A Lake Materials official stated, “We are expanding the scope of our cooperation with Samsung in the US, but it is difficult to confirm specific details.”

One UI 8.5 Beta 2 – Here’s why you should wait for it

It’s been over a week since Samsung launched the One UI 8.5 Beta Program and released the first firmware update. Galaxy S25 series is the only eligible candidate for the early access ahead of the Stable release in early next year.

One UI 8.5 Beta 1 is a pretty impressive update for Samsung users, while the upcoming Beta 2 is worth the wait. Seasoned Samsung users are aware of the fact, they prefer system stability over gaining early access to new software.

One UI 8.5 Beta 2 – Here’s why you should also wait for it

The upcoming One UI 8.5 Beta will bring real improvements based on feedback provided by Beta participants. The first Beta was prepared based on the assessment and testing by Samsung developers, not general users.

Numerous Galaxy S25 users are exploring new features and facing bugs/issues while using. They submit their feedback and feature requests on the Members app. Samsung developers analyze the inputs and prepare the second update.

If you neither handle bugs nor wait much for One UI 8.5, wait for the release of Beta 2. It will be a significantly better build than the initial drop. Be prepared as the slots will be limited and fill very fast moments after opening.

When to expect

It’s been a week, but the Beta 2 update will take some more time to arrive. It’s expected to be released on December 22 for the existing participants. Countries, including India and Poland, would directly receive Beta 2.

One UI 8.5 Beta is currently limited to Germany, Korea, the UK, and the US. India and Poland will join the countries once Samsung drops the Beta 2 update. It’s nothing new but a strategic move that has been carried out for years.

MSI unveils limited-edition MEG X870E GODLIKE X motherboard with just 1,000 units worldwide

MSI-MEG-X780E-GODLIKE-X-EDITION-Launch-Specs-Price

MSI has unveiled a new and gorgeous MEG X870E GODLIKE X EDITION motherboard on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the company’s GODLIKE series. And as the name suggests, this is not a mass-market product.

MSI says it will produce just 1,000 units worldwide, and each motherboard will feature a unique serial number along with a numbered gold nameplate.

The X imprint and gold accents on the board make it clear that this is a limited-edition release. The motherboard also features a 3.99-inch Dynamic Dashboard III display that plays a dedicated 10th-anniversary animation when powered on.

MSI is bundling the motherboard with several limited-edition accessories, such as a numbered M.2 Frost Armor matching the motherboard’s serial number, a custom display stand, and even a limited-edition black dragon plush toy.

MSI MEG X780E GODLIKE X EDITION Specifications

Under the hood, the MEG X870E GODLIKE X EDITION sticks closely to what you would expect from a no-compromise AM5 motherboard. The power delivery system uses a 24 (110A SPS) + 2 + 1 phase design, paired with dual 8-pin CPU power connectors and third-generation titanium inductors.

MSI says this setup is designed to provide stable power for AMD’s Ryzen 9000 series processors, including scenarios involving extreme overclocking.

Memory support includes four DDR5 slots in a dual-channel layout, with MSI claiming support for memory speeds of up to 9000+ MT/s. And for storage, the motherboard includes five onboard M.2 slots, and MSI bundles an M.2 XPANDER-Z SLIDER GEN5 expansion card.

Moreover, expansion options include two PCIe 5.0 x16 slots and one PCIe 4.0 x4 slot, enough for multi-GPU setups or specialized add-in cards.

To keep everything running reliably, MSI has designed an extensive cooling solution. This includes a second-generation magnetic M.2 Frost Armor system, dense finned heatsinks, cross-shaped heat pipes, and thermal coverage across the VRM, chipset, and storage areas.

MSI has also added several EZ DIY features, such as a graphics card quick-release button, tool-free M.2 clips, and an EZ Bridge interface.

As for connectivity, you get 10G and 5G Ethernet, Wi-Fi 7, and Bluetooth 5.4. Audio is handled by a fifth-generation esports audio module with 7.1-channel output, and you can tweak all the software settings through MSI Center.

The MEG X870E GODLIKE X EDITION is now available in China for 8,888 yuan. Whereas, MSI’s US store lists it at $1300.

HyperOS 3 Update Drops on Redmi Note 14 5G in India

Redmi Note 14 5G

Xiaomi is hard at work bringing the HyperOS 3 update to its vast portfolio of smartphones on Xiaomi, Redmi, and POCO branded devices. Earlier this month, the company’s latest software upgrade hit the Xiaomi Band 10 and Redmi Note 14 5G models. And now, the Redmi Note 14 5G users are getting this update in the Indian market as well.

Xiaomi India rolls out HyperOS 3 to Redmi Note 14 5G

Redmi Note 14 5G
Redmi Note 14 5G

The Chinese tech giant is now releasing the Android 16 OS based custom skin to the Redmi Note 14 5G model in India. This update carries the 3.0.2.0.WOQINXM firmware version with a long list of changes and upgrades. So here’s everything in the official HyperOS 3 changelog:

  • Smoother and more stable
  • Refined compiler instructions enhance performance and responsiveness while lowering power use
  • Improved memory allocation and recovery increase available system memory
  • Improved integrated frequency scheduling boosts system efficiency and reduces power consumption
  • Improved short-video playback efficiency for better battery life
  • Optimised graphics: A new window-rendering mechanism reduces graphics-rendering load
  • Smoother system animations: Fine-tuned animations across 100+ system scenes for smoother, more natural motion

Apart from the latest Android iteration, a major new addition to the HyperOS 3 is Xiaomi’s HyperIsland feature that is inspired by Apple’s Dynamic Island. So it is basically a pill shaped feature on the top that shows all live activities like music, calls, timers, navigation, and more. Xiaomi built this feature to give more information at a glance, while adding intuitive and seamless interactions as well. In related news, Xiaomi is getting ready to celebrate Christmas with a new watermark in China.

Xiaomi accidentally confirms HyperOS 4, hinting at an early release

Xiaomi HyperOS 4 update
Xiaomi HyperOS 4 update

The HyperOS 3 rollout is still underway, but it appears the brand has already begun working on its next iteration, HyperOS 4. Xiaomi may have accidentally mentioned it in an official announcement on the global bug report channel.

The next major HyperOS upgrade was mentioned in issue #6 of the latest weekly bug report, which concerns the system launcher force-closing issue. The status of the issue reads, “the fix will be implemented in the upcoming OS4 Major Update.” Here, OS4 refers to the HyperOS 4 update.

HyperOS 4

HyperOS 4 update might arrive early

This is the first time Xiaomi has officially mentioned HyperOS 4. The bug report channel doesn’t reveal anything else. However, it suggests that Xiaomi may already be working on HyperOS 4, especially since multiple users are facing issues, and fixes for them will be included in the next upgrade. The update could also arrive earlier than we’re expecting.

This year, Google released Android 16 in June, earlier than its usual timeline. Samsung was quick to follow it up with a stable release in July, while other brands took a little longer. The tech giant is expected to follow a similar timeline for Android 17. So, a quicker HyperOS 4 release is definitely on the cards.

This also means Xiaomi may not have enough time to prepare for HyperOS 3.1. Therefore, the brand may skip this incremental upgrade and instead focus directly on HyperOS 4.

As of writing this post, Xiaomi hasn’t confirmed anything regarding HyperOS 4, including an early release. However, it’s unusual to mention “OS4” when there are dozens of devices waiting for HyperOS 3. Anyway, we’ll keep you posted with the latest developments around HyperOS in our Xiaomi section.

Alleged HMD Pulse 2 Pro surfaces on Geekbench, revealing chip details, RAM, and performance

A new HMD smartphone has surfaced on Geekbench, offering an early look at what appears to be the HMD Pulse 2 Pro. The device shows up under the codename “Pearl” and reveals several key hardware details.

The Geekbench listing identifies the motherboard as “ums9230_6h10.” At first glance, this points toward Unisoc’s T606 or T615 platforms, but the CPU configuration tells a different story. The chip features two performance cores clocked at 1.82GHz and six efficiency cores running at 1.61GHz, which doesn’t match the T606 series, where all cores operate at the same frequency.

Instead, the setup closely aligns with the Unisoc T7250. That lines up with an earlier leak for the Pulse 2 Pro. Those listings mentioned a T615 chip, but that now appears to be a mislabeling, possibly due to overlapping internal codenames.

The Geekbench listing further reveals 4GB of RAM and shows the phone running Android 15. If Android 16 introduces higher minimum RAM requirements, the Pulse 2 Pro may need to rely on Android Go for long-term software support.

According to a recent report, more phones with just 4GB of RAM could launch next year as memory prices continue to rise. The 2024 Pulse Pro was offered in 4GB, 6GB, and 8GB variants, so it remains to be seen whether the Pulse 2 Pro will still get an 8GB option, especially given its entry-level positioning.

Overall, the benchmark points to a familiar formula for HMD’s budget lineup. The Pulse 2 Pro appears to focus on basic functionality rather than raw performance.

HMD hasn’t confirmed the device yet, but with benchmark listings and retailer leaks now stacking up, an official announcement may not be far off.

Realme 16 Pro+ Geekbench listing reveals chip, brand claims it outperforms Snapdragon 7 Gen 4

Realme 16 Pro Gold Teaser

Realme is all set to unveil the Realme 16 series of smartphones in January 2026. While interest is building around the new lineup, the rumour mill is actively leaking details about it. Recently, the Realme 16 Pro was spotted on Geekbench with the Dimensity 7300 chip. Now, the Realme 16 Pro+ has reportedly surfaced on the same benchmarking platform, revealing its chipset, RAM, and OS.

Reports have revealed that the RMX5131 model number belongs to the upcoming Realme 16 Pro+, and the same device has now appeared on Geekbench. The company has officially claimed that the 16 Pro+ packs a Snapdragon chip that is stronger than the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4.

The Realme 16 Pro+ Geekbench listing reveals that it is powered by a Qualcomm chip that includes a prime core clocked at 2.80GHz, three cores operating at 1.84GHz, and four cores running at 2.80GHz. The metadata of the Geekbench listing also reveals that the chip features the Adreno 722 GPU.

Interestingly, the above chip details are an exact match with the specifications of the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4. This indicates that the Realme 16 Pro+ chip could be the same Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 with some tweaks.

The listing further reveals that the Realme 16 Pro+ has 12GB of RAM and runs Android 16. The company has already confirmed that the device will feature the Realme UI 7 skin on top of the Android OS. It has also revealed that the Pro series will receive three years of OS upgrades and four years of security updates.

Realme has already revealed the Realme 16 Pro series and its collaboration with popular designer Naoto Fukasawa. The entire series will come in color options such as Master Gold, Master Grey, Camellia Pink, and Orchid Purple. Apart from the 16 Pro series, the brand will also announce the Realme Buds Air 8 alongside, in shades like Master Gold, Master Grey, and Master Purple.

The interface is simple to use, with smooth menu navigation and on-screen playback. Time-lapse recording is also supported, making it useful for long parking sessions without filling up storage too quickly.

Fast Wireless Connectivity

The BEPOCAM dash cam includes built-in 5GHz WiFi, allowing quick connection to the BEPOCAM mobile app. Through the app, you can preview live footage, download videos, and share clips wirelessly. The app works on both Android and iOS, making it convenient to manage recordings without removing the memory card.

Optional GPS Tracking Support

For nighttime driving and low-light conditions, the dash cam uses infrared night vision with 8 IR LEDs. Combined with WDR (Wide Dynamic Range), it balances bright headlights and dark areas for clearer footage. This helps reduce glare and improve visibility when driving or parking at night.

24-Hour Parking Surveillance

With a hardwire kit (not included), the BEPOCAM supports continuous parking protection. Time-lapse mode records at 2 frames per second, saving storage while keeping long-term coverage. Collision detection automatically locks a 10-second video if an impact is detected, even when the car is parked. The system starts quickly in about 5 seconds, ensuring reliable monitoring.

Smart Safety Recording Features

A built-in G-sensor detects sudden impacts and automatically locks important clips to prevent overwriting. Loop recording saves videos in 3-minute segments, overwriting the oldest files when storage is full. Locked videos are stored separately, ensuring critical evidence is always protected.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 vs Snapdragon 8 Elite: Benchmarks, spec sheet, and more

Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 vs Snapdragon 8 Elite
Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 vs Snapdragon 8 Elite

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 was announced in September, and Qualcomm quickly followed it up with another chip release — the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5. The newer chip also features Oryon cores, but doesn’t bear the “Elite” moniker for some reason.

Besides the weird naming scheme, Qualcomm weirdly compared the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 to a two-year-old 8 Gen 3 chip rather than the Snapdragon 8 Elite at the chip announcement. So, where does the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 settle into the Snapdragon 8-series? Can it beat the Snapdragon 8 Elite? Let’s dig deeper into the benchmark scores and key differences to figure it out.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 vs Snapdragon 8 Elite: Benchmark score

We are yet to see a smartphone with the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chip in the global market. However, the unreleased OnePlus 15R was recently spotted on Geekbench with a single-core score of 2,784 and a multi-core score of 9,329.

The Realme GT 7 Pro, powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite, pulls higher scores: 3122 in the single-core test and 9507 in the multi-core test. That’s about a 12% increase in the single-core score, but a modest 2% gain in multi-core performance.

Single coreMulti core
Snapdragon 8 Gen 52,7849,329
Snapdragon 8 Elite3,1229,507

So, the newer Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 can’t match the Snapdragon 8 Elite’s performance despite featuring the latest Oryon cores. The reason is lower CPU speed and the lack of high-bandwidth memory. We’ll learn about more key differences below.

Note: We’ll update the section with benchmark scores from additional platforms, including 3DMark and AnTuTu, once we have tested a Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 smartphone.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 vs Snapdragon 8 Elite: Key differences that matter

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 is fabbed using TSMC’s 3nm (N3P) process, which offers slightly better performance compared to TSMC’s 3nm (N3E) process used for the Snapdragon 8 Elite.

The CPUs also bring several important differentiations. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 has third-gen Oryon cores, while the 8 Elite features second-gen Oryon cores. The (2 prime + 6 performance) core setup is there on both chips, but the Elite chip benefits from much higher clock speeds.

The GPU differences aren’t very clear. Qualcomm hasn’t announced which Adreno GPU is inside the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5. However, according to recent leaks, it’s Adreno 840, the same GPU inside the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, but with a lower peak frequency and a trimmed-down version of the sliced GPU architecture.

In contrast, the Snapdragon 8 Elite features an Adreno 830 GPU. It’s difficult to say which chip has the more powerful GPU without testing the device or reviewing the benchmarks. We’ll run gaming-specific benchmarks once we get the device and update the article.

The connectivity aspect doesn’t bring any differences, as both feature the same X80 5G modem with up to 10Gbps download speeds, Wi-Fi 7, and Bluetooth 6.0. The cameras bring several differences, though. The 8 Gen 5 features a 20-bit AI ISP, which offers a more usable dynamic range and smoother gradients compared to the 18-bit ISP used in the 8 Elite chip.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite allows up to 8K/30fps video recording, the newer 8 Gen 5 chip peaks at 4K/120fps. While this may seem a downgrade, it isn’t. The 4K/120fps is more practical for users than 8K. The latter is more of a marketing spec. Even the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 supports up to 4K/120fps recording, not pushing to 8K.

Hand-Carved G-Shock MRG-B2000KT-3A Limited Edition Watch Launches in United States

G-Shock MRG-B2000KT-3A

Casio‘s G-Shock MRG-B2000KT-3A is now available in the US after launching in Japan and the UK. Arizona Fine Time sells it for $8,000, while Chrono24 listings start at $6,242. Stock is limited everywhere.

G-Shock MRG-B2000KT-3A

The watch pulls from Japanese sword-making. The titanium bezel is based on the tsuba sword guard and has a hand-carved phoenix made using Shishi-Aibori hammering. Each bezel is different because craftsmen carve them individually with hammer and chisel. Green DLC coating gives it the kuroganeiro black iron look seen in forged steel. Four emeralds sit in the bezel screws and represent wisdom and spiritual strength.

The case shows “nie,” the crystallized edge pattern found on tempered sword blades. Casio creates this by recrystallizing pure titanium. Brown AIP coating makes it harder and adds a copper color. A metal plate at 9 o’clock says “2025 LIMITED.” The dial ring has a red-to-orange gradient. The dial features an arrow feather design from the hamaya charm used for protection. Yamagata Casio makes all exterior parts through precision machining.

The strap uses dark green Durasoft fluorine rubber. It’s soft, tough, and won’t wear out or discolor easily. It has a Bishamon tortoiseshell pattern. The titanium clasp is deep hardened with the same brown AIP coating as the case.

The watch has 20-bar water resistance, solar charging, Bluetooth time correction, and multi-band radio control for Japan, North America, Europe, and China.

FEVM unveils a 1-liter mini PC with AMD’s latest Strix Halo chip

FEVM FAEX1 Launch Specs Price

FEVM, a China-based brand focused on compact mini PCs, has launched its second system, the FAEX1. The new machine adopts a familiar cheese-grater aesthetic reminiscent of Apple’s designs, but incorporates a 16-core AMD APU and up to 128GB of LPDDR5X-8533 memory into a compact 1-liter chassis.

FEVM FAEX1 Specifications

The FAEX1 measures 220 × 133 × 35mm and uses a CNC-machined aluminum alloy shell to achieve its glossy, industrial look. Despite its size, the mini PC is unusually generous with ports.

Both the front and rear panels include two USB-C 40Gbps ports, two USB-A 10Gbps ports, HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 2.0, an SD 4.0 card reader, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and an OCuLink 4i port for connecting external GPUs.

For connectivity, FEVM sticks to the latest standards. The FAEX1 supports dual-band Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4, alongside a 2.5GbE RJ45 port for wired networking.

Samsung just cracked a key mobile RAM problem

Samsung has almost solved a major problem with mobile RAM. The company and its SAIT arm have reportedly explored a technology to implement DRAM (mobile RAM) processes smaller than 10nm.

According to TheElec, Samsung and Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology have developed a technology, which will help its semiconductor division to advance the mobile RAM production process.

At the International Electron Devices Meeting in San Francisco, Samsung showcased “High Thermal Stability Amorphous Oxide Semiconductor Transistor for Sub-10nm Cell-on-Peri (CoP) Vertical Channel DRAM Transistors.”

The new Samsung DRAM tech features the Cell-on-Peri (CoP) method. It includes stacking the memory cells on top of the peripheral circuits (Peri).

Conventional solutions, which bring Peri transistors beneath memory cells, were prone to damage and performance degradation due to the high heat generated during the cell stacking process.

Samsung stated, “We demonstrated for the first time an amorphous InGaO-based high thermal stability Vertical Channel Transistor (VCT) with a 100nm channel length that can withstand up to 550 degrees,” and added that “this transistor enables integration into a monolithic CoP DRAM architecture.”

As demonstrated, the Korean tech giant has overcome this problem by using InGaO (amorphous Indium Gallium Oxide). Meanwhile, industry watchers believe that implementation will tech time as the tech is still under development.

An industry official commented, “This technology is still in the research phase, and its actual application in commercial Samsung DRAM is a long way off,” and added that “it will be applied to sub-10nm class 0Alpha or 0Beta DRAM.”

Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold debuts new kind of wireless charging tech

Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold is equipped with advanced wireless charging technology supplied by Wits. The device features 15W wireless charging that aligns with the Qi (not Qi2) standard of the Wireless Power Consortium.

According to ETNews, Samsung partner Wits revealed that it has supplied slim wireless charging tech tailored for the Galaxy Z TriFold. The solution brings module thickness and specs optimized for the multi-fold device.

The Galaxy Z TriFold is 12.9 mm when folded, which turns into 3.9 mm when unfolded. The device itself is an engineering marvel, and a recreation of optimized components was also necessary to realize the design dimensions.

Notably, Wits hasn’t joined Samsung for the TriFold component supply. The company has also supplied charging solutions for select Galaxy S and Z series. This time, it has expanded its scope to include the new form factor from Samsung.

A Wits official stated, “The adoption of our component from the initial model of a new form-factor device signifies the recognition of our technology’s completeness and stability.”

Earlier this month, Samsung launched the Galaxy Z TriFold. It’s the slimmest device of the company’s foldable segment. At its thinnest point, it is just 3.9mm, which requires new kinds of solutions to realize the thinness.

Last week, Samsung partner Goodix revealed key components supplied for the TriFold. The device uses an advanced touchscreen and an ultra-narrow side-key capacitive fingerprint sensor, making it an innovation marvel.

Samsung brings free and discounted electricity in Europe, the US

Samsung is offering free and discounted electricity to its appliance buyers across Europe and the US. The company has expanded its partnership with major global energy companies to achieve excellent electricity bill savings.

The company announced it is continuously expanding energy partnerships to provide diverse electricity bill benefits to users of its appliances. SmartThings is playing a crucial role in offering practical savings to users.

USA – Leap

Samsung and Leap have been operating the Flex Connect program since July 2024 to optimize the power consumption of appliances connected to SmartThings.

Flex Connect leverages the AI Energy Mode of the SmartThings app to automatically optimize the power consumption of connected appliances to reduce electricity bills.

Available in California, New York, and Texas, the Flex Connect program will continue to expand to more US consumers in the future.

UK – British Gas

Samsung collaborated with the UK’s British Gas to launch the Samsung Weekend Saver Fix. Users of Samsung appliances avail a 50 percent discount on household electricity bills between 11 AM and 4 PM every Saturday and Sunday.

Eligible appliances include washing machines, dryers, dishwashers, refrigerators/freezers, ovens, microwave ovens, cordless stick vacuums, and robot vacuums.

Italy

Samsung has just partnered with Enel of Italy to offer 180 kWh of free electricity for two years. The company’s internal assessment revealed that 180 kWh of energy is enough for a washing machine to run for two years in the country.

Assuming a Samsung A-grade washing machine (model WW11BB944AGB) consumes an average of 0.539 kWh per wash cycle and is used every other day, 180 kWh is sufficient for approximately 670 days of use.

Netherlands

Samsung and CoolBlue have been offering free electricity for washing machines and dryers between 12 PM and 3 PM. Consumers need to sign up for the Free Washing Program and connect their Samsung products to SmartThings.

December update arrives for the Galaxy S22 series

Samsung brings the latest December 2025 update to the Galaxy S22 series. The latest software update rollout has started in India. The OTA carries improvements for 68 CVEs and SVEs across Android and One UI.

Earlier, the December patch arrived for the S25 and S24 series. Users of the Galaxy S23 series are also awaiting the latest firmware. In the meantime, the Galaxy S22 series quietly joined the team with the December 2025 update.

Samsung enhances device protection by installing newer security patches. While the changelog describes nothing else, users can still expect a better overall user experience as it optimizes the system and clears the cache.

Update your Samsung phone’s software through Settings > Software update > Download and install. If your device fetches a new firmware, the downloading will begin; complete installation by hitting “Install now.”

Software build versions:

  • S901EXXSCGYL1 – Galaxy S22
  • S906EXXSCGYL1 – Galaxy S22 Plus
  • S908EXXSCGYL1 – Galaxy S22 Ultra

The Galaxy S22 series is running Android 16-based One UI 8. Samsung will also provide the new One UI 8.5 update early next year. Beta Program has started, but your device will jump straight to the Stable firmware.

Samsung launched the Galaxy S22 series in early 2022. The lineup includes three models: S22, S22 Plus, and S22 Ultra. The flagships come with four years of software update support, which would end after the Galaxy S26 reveal.

The flagship phones have received four major OS upgrades, up to Android 16. Since One UI 8.5 is also based on Android 16, the Galaxy S22 series is eligible for the update, but it will be the farewell transition for the devices.

BOE Chairman visits Samsung after OLED dispute – What’s next

Chen Yanshun, the chairman of China’s BOE Technology Group, visited South Korea to meet with Samsung Electronics officials in Seoul. The meeting follows a legal dispute between BOE and Samsung Display over OLED technology, which was settled in favor of Samsung.

As per the information via Yonhap, Chen Yanshun met with Yong Seok-woo, head of Samsung’s Display Business, at the company’s headquarters in Suwon. The main topic of discussion of this two-day trip was boosting BOE’s supply of LCD panels to Samsung.

At present, Samsung buys all of its TV display panels from Chinese companies. The talks suggest that the two firms are looking for ways to work together more closely in the future, even after their legal dispute.

Earlier this year, the US International Trade Commission (ITC) issued a preliminary ruling that could have stopped BOE from sending OLED panels to the United States for over 14 years. The settlement has now cleared the way for both companies to move forward without a long legal battle. It had caused tension.

But now Chen’s visit is a positive sign for business relations between BOE and Samsung. Even after the legal dispute, BOE and Samsung are finding ways to collaborate and grow together. By expanding LCD panel supplies, both companies could benefit and help them stay competitive in the global display market.

Gemini now works with NotebookLM for smarter research

Google has pushed a new update for one of its most useful AI tools, NotebookLM. This tool already helps users understand and summarize information from their own documents. Now, Google has started integrating NotebookLM with Gemini to make research and writing even easier.

NotebookLM works like a smart notebook, as you can upload your files, and the AI helps explain, summarize, and organize the information. Earlier this year, reports suggested Google was working on bringing NotebookLM into Gemini. That update is now slowly rolling out.

With this new integration, users can ask Gemini to use a specific NotebookLM notebook when answering questions. This means Gemini can give answers based only on your trusted notes and sources.

NoteBookLM and Gemini

Image via TestingCatalog

You can even select more than one notebook at the same time. The feature also works inside Gems, allowing users to build custom AI assistants around their notebooks.

At the moment, the NotebookLM integration is available only on Gemini’s web version. It does not yet appear in the Gemini app on Android. The rollout is also happening slowly, so not all Google accounts have access yet.

This update is quite useful for those people who often work with NoteBookLM. Instead of switching between apps, you can simply ask Gemini questions and get answers directly from your own research.

16GB RAM phones' existence threatened by memory shortage

The memes about RAM prices are funny and all, but the consequences of the memory supply crunch are anything but. We've already seen some flagships with hiked prices compared to their predecessors, and we are now hearing that Samsung plans to bump up the prices of its mid-range lineup in India. Chargers explained - how to pick up the right phone charger

The answer to the question “what charger should I use for my phone?” used to be simple – the right charger came in the box. That hasn’t been true for a while now, at least not for most phones in most regions. Now you are expected to go out and buy your own charger. But which one? The main problem is that the U in USB is a lie – it’s universal only if you are okay with outdated data speeds and slow charging. If you want more than 480Mbps and 10W, then things are a lot more fractured. There are standards that come from the USB Implementers Forum and all phones do support them as a...

Swiss Competition Commission is now investigating Apple for iPhone NFC access

Apple has found itself in the crosshairs of the European Commission many times over the past few years, and now it's also being investigated by the Swiss Competition Commission (SCC). This has to do with access to NFC on iPhones. Apple started to allow third-party access to the NFC chip last year, following an initial opening up in the EU. But if you want to use the iPhone's NFC chip, you need to enter into a commercial agreement with Apple and pay the fees it requests, and that is precisely what the SCC is investigating. Namely, the SCC is trying to ascertain whether Apple's terms...

In an actually welcome development (since megapixel count by itself doesn't say much), the new camera has...
