Australia April 2026: BYD up to #2 brand, BEVs up 157.2% to record 16.4% share

The BYD Sealion 7 ranks inside the Australian Top 10 in April.

94,049 new vehicles hit Australian roads in April, a 3.8% year-on-year increase. The year-to-date tally is now down -0.7% to 384,636. Private sales are up an encouraging 7.4% to 47,850 units, business fleets are up 2.2% to 34,898 but rentals are down -18.8% to 4,800 and government sales off -19.3% to 2,056. SUVs account for 66.1% of the market in April vs. 60.3% a year ago and 55.7% in 2025, light commercials are at 18.5% vs. 22.6% and 22%, passenger cars at 12.2% vs. 14.2% and 17.8% and heavy commercials at 3.2% vs. 3.8% in 2025. As far as country of production is concerned, China is up by a whopping 88.9% to cement its newfound leadership at 29,499 sales, followed by Japan (-18.2%) at 22,904, Thailand (-17.4%) at 15,873, South Korea (+1.4%) at 11,247 and Germany (+1.9%) at 4,438.

Petrol sales sink -30.1% to 25,399, diesel is down -21.7% to 22,414 and HEVs improve 27.1% to 18,162. The big news this month is the record share of BEVs at 16.4% thanks to sales up 157.2% to 15,459. This is compared with 6.6% in April 2025 and 14.6% last month which was a record at the time. It is all the more impressive because Tesla is weak this month. Finally PHEVs surge an even more spectacular 270.2% to 9,628 and 10.2% share vs. 2.8% in April 2025. Looking at sales by state and region, New South Wales is up 2.8% to 27,830, Victoria up 1.6% to 24,789, Queensland down -1.4% to 19,912, Western Australia up 4.4% to 10,093, South Australia up 3.6% to 6,074, Tasmania up 19.8% to 1,637, Australian Capital Territory up 16.2% to 1,392 and Northern Territory up 3.1% to 864.

There are a few striking trends at play in the brands charts. Toyota (-21.6%) continues its race to the bottom, enduring a 4th consecutive double-digit YoY loss and a 6th straight decline. The event of the month is delivered by BYD, up a spectacular 140.2% to snap the 2nd spot overall. Needless to say the Chinese carmaker breaks all its records this month with 7,702 sales and a stunning 8.2% share. Kia (+2.3%) is down one spot to #3, ahead of Hyundai (+8.2%) up two to #4. Ford (-21.6%) and Mazda (-14.3%) both struggle mightily, with the latter hitting its lowest ranking in at least 15 years.

Three Chinese brands follow: GWM (+21.8%), Chery (+89%) breaking its volume record for the 15th month in a row at 4,322 and also reaching a record share at 4.6%. MG (+18.5%) ranks #9. Mitsubishi (-23%) is kicked out of the Top 10 for the first time in at least 15 years and probably a lot more as it used to be a successful local producer here. The Chinese don’t stop there and a lot of them post record results this month. Geely (+519.1%) is inside the Top 15 and above 2,000 monthly sales for the first time, newcomer Omoda Jaecoo cracks the Top 20 at #19 with record volumes and share, Zeekr (+1634.5%) does the same at #24 and 1.1% share, while newcomer Denza breaks into the Top 30 for the first time at #28.

Looking at the models ranking, finally through with its painful generation changeover, the Toyota RAV4 (-2.1%) returns to the pole position for the first time this year. It distances the Ford Ranger (-9.2%) and a Toyota Hilux (-31.2%) clearly not helped by the new model. The Chery Tiggo 4 (+104.2%) is back to #4 and cements its third place YTD. Excellent showing for the Hyundai Kona (+34.5%), up to a splendid #4 YTD whereas its best ever ranking is #5 last October. The BYD Sealion 7 (+139.6%) is up three spots on March to #8 and the GWM Haval Jolion (+23.3%) is up one to #9. In fact BYD places five models in the Top 50: the Shark 6 (+6%) at #15, the new Sealion 8 at #30, the Atto 3 (+87%) at #40, the new Atto 2 at #41 and the new Atto 1 at #49. Other notable performers include the Geely EX5 (+271%) and #21, the new Zeekr 7X at #24, the new Geely Starray at #36 and the new Jaecoo J5 at #39.

Previous month: Australia March 2026: BYD first Chinese on monthly podium, BEVs (+88.9%) at record 14.6% share

One year ago: Australia April 2025: GWM and Chery break records, Toyota Hilux #1

Argentina April 2026: Market off -14.6%, BYD breaks records

First Top 20 finish for the BYD Atto 2.

The Argentinean new light vehicle market hits the brakes in April: it falls -14.6% year-on-year to 44,344 units. The year-to-date tally is now down -6.2% to 193,445. Strikingly, the Top 8 brands are all in negative. Toyota (-31.4%) implodes but repeats at #1 with 15.1% share vs. 13.4% so far this year. It is however Volkswagen (-38%) that stays #1 year-to-date with 14.1% of the market. Fiat (-19.8%) remains at #3, Ford (-11.8%) is up two spots on March to #4 and Chevrolet (-7.9%) down one to #5. Newcomer BYD is up one rank to #9 which is a new ranking record for the brand, also hitting best ever volumes (1,701) and share (3.8%). YoY gains appear outside the Top 10, notably Chery (+928.1%), Haval (+518.9%), Kia (+192%), BAIC (+169.7%) and BMW (+146.1%).

Model-wise, the Toyota Hilux (-31.4%) returns to the top spot it holds year-to-date with 5.3% share, well above the Peugeot 208 (-34.3%), leader last month. The Ford Territory (+35.6%) impresses with a large YoY lift and ascends to the podium for the first time in the nameplate’s history. The Ford Ranger (-32.9%) stays at #4 while the Fiat Cronos (-42%) rounds out the Top 5 in paltry fashion. The VW Tera remains the best-selling recent launch at #6, distancing the Toyota Yaris Cross (#10), for the first time in the Top 10, and the BYD Atto 2 (#18) delivering its maiden Top 20 finish.

Rivals High School Baseball Top 25 Rankings – May 4

America’s favorite pastime is jumping into postseason play, with many of the nation’s top teams as they enter the month of May. Among the highlights during these warmer months is high school baseball, where standout programs from across the country are gearing up to hit the diamond. These talented squads are ready to lace up their cleats, grab their gloves, and swing their bats for another exciting season.

The latest set of rankings once again doesn’t see any change towards the top as the Venice Indians remains at the top of this week’s Top 25 national high school baseball ranks. The Indians are coming off winning their first playoff series heading into the region semifinals against Winter Haven.

Dropping out of the Top 5 altogether was Stony Brook (NY), with a new team jumping into the mix. Which new teams made their way this week into the latest set of Rivals High School Top 25 baseball rankings?

[ $19.99 gets you a FULL year of On3 | Rivals national coverage ]

We dive into the best high school baseball programs around the nation and give you our take on which teams stay in the conversation as of May 4.

1. Venice Indians (FL) (29-1)

The Venice Indians (29-1) took the region quarterfinal series against George Jenkins by scores of 7-0 and 8-3. The Indians have bounced back from their one-run loss to Orange Lutheran (Calif.) at the National High School Invitational and reeled off 10 straight wins. What has really separated Venice apart from everyone else in the country is the play of their pitching staff as they have only allowed 414 runs through 30 games and scoring 237. Up next is a region semifinal series against Winter Haven this week.

2. St. John Bosco Braves (CA) (22-5)

St. John Bosco (CA) won a best of three series against Orange Lutheran (CA), but then followed that up with a surprising three-game skid. The Braves (22-5) fell to Orange Lutheran, Norco and Huntington Beach during the losing streak, but have bounced back with a 11-game winning streak. Despite dropping the five games this season, the Braves are loaded with returning talent from the 30-4 team from last season, including on the pitcher’s mound. The bulk of the experience lies within the pitching staff as senior Gavin Cervantes, who went 8-0 with 44 strikeouts in 2025, leads the way. Another up and coming arm to watch for is sophomore Brayden Krakowski, who went 5-0 with 31 strikeouts last spring.

3. Orange Lutheran Lancers (CA) (21-5)

Orange Lutheran (21-5) moves up a couple spots despite after dropping a 1-0 decision to Servite recently. The Lancers went 23-7 last season, but with the talent the team possesses at the plate, it’s hard to not have this group in the conversation of the nation’s best. The player to watch for the Lancers on the mound is senior pitcher Gary Morse, who is already committed to the University of Tennessee. Morse leads the Orange Lutheran pitching staff this season with a 3-2 record, a 1.31 ERA and 81 strikeouts. The Lancers finish out the regular season with a series against Mater Dei.

4. Calallen Wildcats (TX) (30-2)

Jumping ahead of Grapevine from the Lone Star State as the top team hailing from Texas are the Calellen Wildcats as they’re currently on a 18-game winning streak and have shown no signs of slowing down. The Wildcats have been simply dominant throughout the season as they have out-scored the competition by a combined 355-37. Heading into the postseason, Calellen is the favorites to win the UIL’s Class 4A, Division I state championship as they take on Needville later this week in a playoff series.

5. Grapevine Mustangs (TX) (26-5)

The Grapevine Mustangs (26-5) has been barred from taking part in the UIL state playoffs due to use of an ineligible player, ending the team’s quest to repeat three-peat as state champs. Riding a current 17-game winning streak, it’s hard to ignore how good this Mustangs team is playing out of the Lone Star State. Of the 26 victories on the season, Grapevine has shut out opponents in 13 of the wins. The Mustangs’ 2026 season is officially over.

Raiders made a significant but shocking roster move during minicamp that completely changes one rookie's first season

Las Vegas Raiders rookie defensive end edge rusher Keyron Crawford
May 2, 2026; Henderson, NV, USA; Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Keyron Crawford (42) speaks during a news conference at the team's Rookie Minicamp at Intermountain Health Performance Center. Mandatory Credit: Candice Ward-Imagn Images Candice Ward-Imagn Images

The Las Vegas Raiders just freed up more playing time for rookie defensive end/edge rusher Keyron Crawford.

The Las Vegas Raiders surprised many people in the 2026 NFL Draft. They did so by drafting the amazing class they did, and by taking Keyron Crawford in the third round.

It didn't shock people because he's a bad player who shouldn't have been taken in the third round. He's a great player who could have been taken late in the second. It shocked people because the Raiders had far more pressing needs on their board, with players available who could fill them. Instead, they went with an edge rusher who likely won't even play the most at his position, at least, not until the end of the year. Well, that was the initial thought. Now, his path to playing more just got a bit easier.

Raiders announced the following roster moves:

Signed S Devyn Perkins, OT Niklas Henning, TE Patrick Gurd, OT Kamar Missouri

Waived DE Charles Snowden, OG McClendon Curtis, TE Matt Lauter and OG Layden Robinson

— Sam Warren (@samwarren83) May 3, 2026

On Saturday, the Raiders made a flurry of roster moves. They signed S Devyn Perkins, OT Niklas Henning, TE Patrick Gurd, and OT Kamar Missouri. Then, they waived DE Charles Snowden, OG McClendon Curtis, TE Matt Lauter, and OG Layden Robinson. The surprising one here is Snowden, who started 18 games for the Raiders over the last two seasons.

This comes as a surprise because you'd think they would just keep him as depth. Given his experience, he could be a great depth piece. But this opens up playing time for Crawford, who can be a legit pass rush ace on defense.

Kayron Crawford has insane potential as a pass rusher

Crawford's path to football was unconventional; he didn't start playing until his senior year of high school. Despite that, last year, many considered him a more promising prospect than teammate Keldrick Faulk, a first-round pick. He has insane potential, and tools the Raiders could tap into even this year.

Keyron Crawford's 2025 stats at Auburn

Crawford played 47 career games in college, with two years at Arkansas State and two at Auburn.

  • 1 INT, 1 FR, 1 FF
  • 36 tackles (9.5 TFLs)
  • 5.5 sacks

Over the past two seasons, Crawford's pass rush win rates increased-from 15.8% on 152 snaps in 2024 to 19.7% on 240 snaps in 2025-ranking just behind Rueben Bain, David Bailey, Romello Height, Akheem Mesidor, and Derrick Moore, according to Tristen Kuhn. These numbers help explain why the Raiders are so high on him. Now, there is one less person standing in his way.

Vicario set for Inter switch, Spurs consider Trafford, Verbruggen as potential replacements

According to Teamtalk, Tottenham Hotspur will allow goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario to join Inter Milan this summer, and they’ve already begun assessing their options regarding the role between the posts for next season. Spurs apparently decided back in January they would allow Vicario to leave at the end of the season, and Inter seem to have […]

New Zealand March 2026: Toyota Hilux leads the way, Dongfeng Box lands at #12

The Dongfeng Box has a great start in New Zealand.

New light vehicle sales in New Zealand soar 25.1% year-on-year in March to 14,910 units, leading to a Q1 volume up 12.5% to 36,910. In the detail, passenger cars gain 19.4% to 10,063 sales while light commercials shoot up 38.9% to 4,847. Toyota (+8.6%) can’t match the flying market and holds 18.7% share vs. 18% so far this year. Ford (+31.3%) manages an excellent score at #2 unlike Mitsubishi (-14.1%) at #3. BYD (+221.9%) is up 3-fold year-on-year to #4 and 5.8% share, that’s a new ranking record eclipsing its previous best of #5 reached in December 2023 and June 2025. Tesla is up 271% to #8 and Dongfeng ranks #14 with 2.3% share.

Over in the models charts, the Toyota Hilux (+76.7%) gets a big new generation boost and claims the top spot for the first time since last July. The Ford Ranger (+46.1%) is relegated to 2nd place but holds onto the #1 ranking YTD. The Tesla Model Y surges to third place with 3.2% share, its best ranking since topping the charts outright in September 2023. The Mitsubishi Triton (-15.2%) and Nissan Navara (+6.5%) ensure there are four pickup trucks inside the March Top 5. The Toyota Hiace (+115.3%), Hyundai Tucson (#7), Toyota Corolla Cross (+65.9%) and MG ZS (+50.8%) also shine below. Finally the Dongfeng Box makes a splash at #12 and 1.7% for its first full month of sales.

Beijing Auto Show 2026: The foreign brands

This article has been updated with additional photos.

As is the case every year, BSCB had the opportunity to attend the China Auto Show in 2026, this time in Beijing. Firstly the Show is now a dual-venue format, held at the old China Exhibition Center (Shunyi Hall) and the adjacent all new Capital International Exhibition Center of China (CIECC). Combined, the two venues feature no less than 17 indoor exhibition halls across a record-breaking 380,000 square meters, or over 50 football fields. I walked 21 km across two days to cover all brands showcased inside the two buildings.

The new Capital International Exhibition Center of China

As per 2024 and 2025, we will cover the Show in three different articles: notable foreigners, notable domestic brands and the 3 most impressive brands overall. We will go through almost 200 pictures and just under 40 brands. Let’s start with studying the notable foreign brands present at the Show, in alphabetical order.

Audi

Last year Audi made a splash by launching a new China-only brand in cooperation with SAIC: AUDIi in capital letters instead of the four rings. Hopes were high this would revive the German manufacturer, and the E5 sportback was presented. However the E5 EV only accumulated a little more than 10,000 units since its launch in August, peaking at 2,630 sales last month. Only a drop in the ocean of the very competitive Chinese EV market, and as a result Audi sales are down again over Q1 2026. One year on, and with added pressure to succeed, the carmaker presented the E7X electric SUV, featuring the same end-to-end digital dashboard and digital rear view mirrors, and the same LED light both at the front and back as the E5. One more EV is scheduled to start in 2027, a pace of new launches far from what the Chinese are doing.

BMW

BMW came to the Show all guns blazing with a gigantic stand across two sections of its hall (see picture above). Its main new model is the iX3 SUV, which in my view is one of the most beautiful car designs currently on sale.

Ford

I was very impressed by the large digital tile on the Ford Mondeo Sport’s dashboard. Foreign carmakers are really trying their best to remain competitive. In the case of Ford, it is also badly needed as sales are down -30.9% year-on-year over Q1 2026.

Hyundai

At the Show, Hyundai officially (and belatedly) launched the Ioniq NEV brand in China. It did so with the Ioniq V, a strikingly angular vehicle, as per the brand’s usage of exploring new design frontiers. The dashboard features the now mandatory digital tile expanding to the passenger side.

Jetta

Volkswagen’s attempt at a China-only low cost brand, Jetta, launched in 2019. It has had disappointing results ever since and vegetates at #41 in the brands charts in March with just over 9,000 sales. The issue is it didn’t offer any NEV models. This is all about to change, with the Beijing Auto Show the stage for the brand’s complete relaunch, including a new logo. The only visible vehicle on the stand though is a concept: the Jetta X, a rugged all-electric SUV. The brand says it will launch four new NEV models by 2028, and one sedan was displayed in camouflage.

Lexus

Lexus’s only “news” in China in 2026 is the ES sedan which was unveiled last year at the Shanghai Auto Show. The ES interior is now visible and features a large digital tile extending to the passenger as is now the “norm” in China. The ES is still scheduled to be produced in the brand’s new Shanghai plant in 2027 and will be the first Lexus built in China.

Nissan

Nissan has rightfully embarked on a series of China-only model EV launches. Last year it showcased the N7 sedan. After a fantastic start (10,148 sales last August), the N7 has fallen to just 587 units in February and 1,382 in March. Nissan has also added the N6 which peaked at 6,822 sales in December but dropped to 2,665 last month. Wildly varying scores make it difficult to call them a success or failure so far. Now the brand is launching the NX8 SUV, proposed in EV and EREV versions, and which reportedly secured 8,423 orders within the first 30 minutes of sales. Very encouraging but let’s see whether the model can sustain strong sales after launch unlike the N6 and N7.

Nissan also showcased the Terrano PHEV concept, prefiguring the return of the legendary nameplate as a capable off-road SUV.

Peugeot

A total surprise for me at the Show is the presence of Peugeot (and Citroen). The French manufacturer, in doldrums sales-wise (975 units in March), presented two new concepts: the Concept 6 shooting brake sedan and Concept 8 SUV. The stand also had the Polygon Concept (an advance look at the future 208) and the Citroen Elo concept. The two new Peugeot concepts prefigure a ‌new line-up of large sedans and SUVs, produced in China for China, as well as for export from China to Peugeot’s overseas markets. The first of these new Chinese-built models is expected to launch in 2027. The stand also featured Peugeot’s new visual identity: three horizontal stripes forming the shape of the head- and backlights.

Smart

Smart, now a Mercedes-Benz/Geely joint venture, has unveiled the #6, its first sedan, which will be confined to China. It is the brand’s largest vehicle to date, and is badly needed as sales figures are dismal (1,717 sales in March). The task will be difficult, and the carmaker has completely changed the way it does interiors with the #6 featuring end-to-end digital tile as is now the norm in vehicles aimed at the Chinese customer.

Toyota Wildlander Wildlander details

Toyota

Toyota outsold (just) Volkswagen in March and has managed to contain its YoY loss over Q1 to -5%, a strong result given the environment foreign brands find themselves in in 2026. The Show was the opportunity for me to discover the new generation RAV4 (and its twin the Wildlander) in the flesh. Note it’s the Wildlander that uses the international look whereas the RAV4 proposes a more squared front. Toyota always opts for conservatism and tried and tested features over extravagant advances. True to form, the RAV4/Wildlander’s interior is solid but its screens are rather small in the current context.

Toyota bZ7

Toyota also presented the bZ7 flagship sedan which secured over 3,100 orders one hour after launch, but was rather shy with it as it only showed one example on its stand. Of note is that Toyota was the busiest foreign brand’s stand during the public days.

I spent the day exploring the Beijing Auto Show with industry superstar Felipe Muñoz

Volkswagen

Volkswagen was moved to the most impressive brands post.

This is all for our coverage of the notable foreign carmakers at the Beijing Auto Show 2026. Next we will talk about the domestic manufacturers.

“Brentford” bir əsr sonra “Qarabağ”ın rəqibini səfərdə məğlub edib

“Brentford” İngiltərə Premyer Liqasının 25-ci turunda “Qarabağ”ın UEFA Çempionlar Liqasında rəqibi olan “Nyukasl” üzərində tarixi 3:2 hesablı qələbə qazanıb.

Komanda.az xarici KİV-ə istinadən xəbər verir ki, bu uğur komandanın 21-ci əsrdə “Nyukasl”ın meydanında ilk qələbəsi olub. “Brentford” sonuncu dəfə təxminən bir əsr əvvəl, 1934-cü ildə “Nyukasl”ı səfərdə 5:2 hesabıyla məğlub edib. Klublar az hallarda qarşılaşıblar və bu, 1934-cü ildən bəri “Nyukasl”ın meydanında keçirdikləri 10-cu liqa matçı olub.

Qələbənin nəticəsi olaraq, “Brentford” Premyer Liqanın turnir cədvəlində 7-ci yerə yüksəlib. “Nyukasl” isə hələ də 13-cü yerdədir.

“Nyukasl” UEFA Çempionlar Liqasının pley-off mərhələsinin ilk oyununda, fevralın 18-də “Qarabağ”ın qonağı olacaq. Cavab matçı fevralın 24-də İngiltərədə keçiriləcək.
