The Jetour T2 misses out on a first Top 10 finish by just 41 sales.
Itβs a 19th consecutive month of year-on-year gains in South Africa with April volumes up 13% to 47,979. This way, the year-to-date tally is now up 12.5% to 209,925. In contrast exports are down -4% to 30,939 for the month and off -8.8% to 118,475 year-to-date. Toyota (-1.7%) retains the manufacturers crown by far with 21.2% share, while Suzuki (-10.3%) is back above the VW Group (+21.2%) despite a harsh year-on-year fall. Itβs an exceptional month for Chinese carmakers: Jetour is up 214.8% to a record ranking (#8), volume (1,804) and share (3.8%), Omoda & Jaecoo is up 59.9%, Chery up 32.9% and GWM up 27.9%. The BMW Group (+19.2%) and Ford (+12.7%) also shine.
Over in the models charts, the Toyota Hilux (+6.3%) remains the faraway leader at 6.2% share, with the Ford Ranger (+16.5%) and VW Polo Vivo (+37.3%) in tow and both very healthy. The Chery Tiggo 4 Pro (+65.1%) continues its race to the top, reaching a record 4th place for the month. The Suzuki Swift (-24.2%) is in difficulty but still manages to gain three ranks on March to #5. The GWM Haval Jolion (+31.2%) also makes itself noticed at #7. The performer of the month is the Jetour T2 up 13 spots on last month to a record-breaking 11th place, ending the month just 41 sales off a first Top 10 finish.
The Smart #5 is among the Top 10 best-sellers in Finland in April.
The Finnish new car market is back to its disappointing self in April at -8.7% year-on-year to just 5,597 units. This means that the gains of February and March are erased and the year-to-date tally returns to negative at -0.4% to 22,485. Toyota (-6.1%) resists ok at 14.8% share, distancing Volkswagen (-21.3%) in much worse shape. Skoda (-3%) is back up to #3 ahead of a struggling Volvo (-28.9%). Excellent scores for Mercedes (+23.9%) at #6, Ford (+16.7%) at #8 and Audi (+12.3%) at #5. Further down, Smart (+841.7%), BYD (+346.4%) and Opel (+237.5%) all post surreal gains.
Model-wise, after four consecutive month of reign by the Tesla Model Y, the Toyota Yaris Cross (+5.8%) reclaims the top spot it held over the Full Year 2025. The Skoda Enyaq (+26.1%) soars 7 spots on last month to #2 ahead of the Toyota Yaris (-14%) and Skoda Elroq (+3.1%). The VW ID.4 (-18.8%) and Toyota Corolla (-13.8%) disappoint below. Meanwhile the VW T-Roc (+320%) and Mercedes CLA (+544.4%) both surge and rank inside the Top 10. The new Smart #5 cracks the Top 10 for the second time after last December.

Keep in mind this is a zoom in by nation, all sales figures are already included in the April 2026 UK update. In an overall market up 24.2%, England is up 25.8% to 128,201 units, Scotland up 17.5% to 12,317, Wales up 15.2% to 4,930 and Northern Ireland up 7.8% to 3,550. Year-to-date, England fares best again at +9.8% to 660,811 sales, with Wales up 7.5% to 24,538, Scotland up 6.5% to 61,150 but Northern Ireland down -4.8% to 16,775.Β

The Chilean new light vehicle market is up 5.5% year-on-year in April to 27,572 unit. This leads to a year-to-date tally up 5.7% to 102,549, the first time above 100,000 sales at this stage of the year since 2023. Toyota (+2.6%) easily leads the way in the brands charts with 9% share vs. 8.1% so far this year. Like last month Suzuki (+6.7%) and Hyundai (+5.8%) complete the podium. Chevrolet (+19%) is in outstanding shape and climbs up two spots on March to #4, overtaking Kia (-7.1%) and Ford (-8.5%) both struggling. Changan (+53.2%) is the most popular Chinese carmaker at #7, distancing GWM (+8.1%) and MG (+62%). As a whole, the 36 Chinese brands present in Chile hold 36.3% of the market in April vs. 30.4% a year ago thanks to sales up 25.9%.
Model-wise, the Toyota Hilux (-4.4%) is back up 8 spots on March to land its first win of the year at a dominant 3.8% share. The podium is 100% pickup as usual, with the Mitsubishi L200 (-17.2%) and GWM Poer (+18.7%) in tow, the latter holding onto the YTD top spot. The Suzuki Swift (+170.2%) and Fronx (+97.2%) both post sensational scores to round out the Top 5. Excellent results also for the MG ZX (+126.1%) and Ford Territory (+29.2%).
The Skoda Elroq is up to a record #12 in Czechia in April.
22,397 new cars hit Czech roads in April, a solid 5.5% year-on-year increase. This leads to a year-to-date tally up 2.5% to 82,949. Local behemoth Skoda (+14.4%) beats its home market to remain at stratospheric heights: 38.4% share vs. 38.2% so far this year. Volkswagen (+8.5%) is also in good shape at #2 but the next seven carmakers are all in negative. Ford (-2.8%), Toyota (-5.5%) and Dacia (-6.2%) resist best but Mercedes (-10%), Hyundai (-19.2%) and most strikingly Kia (-43.4%) all struggle. Cupra surges 41.1% year-on-year to post a third Top 10 finish in the past four months at #10.
Model-wise, this time Skoda monopolises the Top 6, not the Top 7 as it was the case for the past three months. The culprit is the Superb (-19.5%) down to #9. The Octavia (-11.5%) leads the way above the Kodiaq (+59.5%) ranks at a record #2 for the 4th consecutive month, reaching a new volume record at 1,356. The Fabia (+21.1%) is up two spots on March to #3, leapfrogging past the Kamiq (+5.8%) and Karoq (+6.9%). The Scala (+39.5%) is in excellent shape at #6. The Hyundai i30 (-22.9%) is the best of the rest at #7, distancing the Tucson (+0.7%). Skoda also places the Enyaq (+115.7%) at #10, the nameplateβs first Top 10 finish since December 2020, and the Elroq (-6.1%) at a record #12, also reached inΒ May 2025.
The Audi Q5 is up to a record 9th place in Poland in April.
51,827 new cars hit Polish roads in April, a solid 10.3% year-on-year improvement. The year-to-date volume after four months is up 7.6% to 203,477. Toyota (-7.9%) isnβt able to surf on the positive market and drops to 13.1% share vs. 14.9% so far this year. Skoda (+5.8%) is catching up but remains far away at 10.1% of the market for the month and 10.6% YTD. Volkswagen (+16.6%) delivers the best performance in the Top 10 and ranks #3 like it does YTD. Hyundai (+13.9%) and Mercedes (+12.5%) also beat the market in the remainder of the Top 10. Further down, BYD (+172.5%), Mazda (+132.3%) and Omoda (+116.3%) make themselves noticed.
Model-wise, the Toyota Corolla (+4.6%) stays on top with 3.4% share, distancing the Skoda Octavia (+14%) by just 45 sales. The Kia Sportage (+29%) is back up to #3 and is the best-selling car with Polish private buyers so far this year. The Toyota C-HR (+10%) and Hyundai Tucson (+58.6%) follow. The Cupra Formentor (+40.9%) and Toyota Yaris Cross (+20.4%) also shoot up, but none as much as the Audi Q5 which according to our records breaks into the Polish Top 10 for the very first time at #9.
The Toyota Yaris is up to a record third place in Sweden in April.
New car sales in Sweden edge down -0.6% year-on-year in April to 24,147 units. This way, the year-to-date tally is now off -1.9% to 86,107. Both brand leaders Volvo (-21.2%) and Volkswagen (-22.7%) are hit full frontal year-on-year but their respective market shares are above their YTD level at 16.7% vs. 16.1% for Volvo and 12.3% vs. 12% for Volkswagen. In contrast Toyota (+23.4%) and Kia (+24.4%) post splendid scores below. Mercedes (+6.5%) is up three spots on last month to round out the Top 5, with BMW (+9.9%) also strong at #6. At #10, Fiat (+54.1%) breaks into the Top 10 for the first time in almost 8 years: since June 2018 (#5). Lynk & Co (+618.5%), BYD (+410%) and Tesla (+111.3%) surge further down
Over in the models charts, the Volvo EX/XC40 (+50.2%) returns to the pole position it holds year-to-date, whereas the Volvo XC60 (-46%), #1 a year ago and over the Full Year 2025, completely implodes YoY. The Toyota Yaris (+85.4%) is up 12 spots on last month to land on the third step of the podium, and according to our historical data this is a ranking record for the Yaris nameplate, with a previous best at #6 in December 2012 and September 2022. The Volvo EX30 (+13.2%) is solid at #4, as are the VW Tiguan (+58.7%), Skoda Kodiaq (+12.7%) and Fiat Ducato (+46.2%).
The Peugeot 208 is the best-selling vehicle in Portugal in April.
Very satisfying results for the Portuguese new car market in April with sales up 15.2% year-on-year to 21,594. The year-to-date tally is up an equally impressive 10.8% to 85,653. This month Peugeot (+19.8%) beats the market to return to the #1 spot it holds year-to-date (and held over the Full Year 2025). Mercedes (+8.2%) is knocked down to #2 with Dacia (+4.9%) also down one rank on last month to #3. BMW (+22.1%) and Toyota (+31.8%) both post strong gains to round out the Top 5. Skoda (+89.8%) is by far the best performer in the Top 10, up 11 spots on March to #8 with 4.2% share vs. 2.5% so far this year. Fiat (+338.6%), MG (+94.2%) and Hyundai (+87.3%) stand out below.
Over in the models ranking, Peugeot manages a 1-2 with the 208 (+55.3%) in the lead ahead of the 2008 (+59.8%). The rankings are reversed year-to-date. The Dacia Sandero (+13.8%) manages to stay in third place while the Toyota Yaris Cross (+26.9%) is up 12 spots on March to #4 and the Dacia Duster (-15.6%) skids to #5. Lukewarm month for the Renault Clio (-10.6%) at #6 and ranking #9 year-to-date whereas it topped the Portuguese charts outright over the Full Year 2025. Notice also the Ford Puma up 57% to #9 and the Hyundai i20 up 221% to #11.
The Opel Frontera is only outsold by the Skoda Octavia in April.
New car sales in Croatia drop -5.8% year-on-year in April to 8,465 units. However after a strong start of the year the YTD tally is still in positive at +5.2% to 25,203. Skoda (-4%) returns to its traditional pole position in the brands ranking with a strong 12.1% share. It is followed this month by Opel (+82.1%) up two spots on March to #2. Volkswagen (+0.6%) stays at #3 whereas Renault (-42.1%), leader last month and a year ago, is in complete freefall at #4. Hyundai (+3.4%) is the only additional YoY gainer in the Top 10, with Suzuki (-21.7%) and Dacia (-21.1%) hit the hardest. Further down, BYD (+636.8%), MG (+271.7%) and Mini (+204.3%) all post surreal upticks.
Over in the models charts, the Skoda Octavia (-8.2%) is back to #1 with 5.2% share, in line with the 5.1% it commands year-to-date. The new Opel Frontera is the performer of the month, up to a record 2nd place with 4.4% share. It ranks #6 so far this year. The Mokka (+158.6%) makes it two Opel models on the podium. #1 last month and a year ago, the Renault Clio (-50.7%) halves its year-ago sales and falls to #4 but poor results from similarity selling models means it is actually up to #2 year-to-date. First Croatian Top 20 finishes for the Volvo XC40 (#19) and Dacia Bigster (#20).
The Danish new car market grows by a robust 10.8% year-on-year in April to 16,754 units, leading to a year-to-date tally up 15% toΒ 60,457. After topping the brands charts outright for the first time ever last month, Skoda (+23.7%) doubles down and repeats at #1 with a splendid 12.4% share. Volkswagen (-20.2%) stays at #2 above Toyota (+56.7%) still #1 year-to-date. Mercedes (+11.8%) ranks #4 like in March while BMW (-4.1%) rounds out the Top 5. Peugeot (+249.1%) and Renault (+58.2%) both post stunning scores in the remainder of the Top 10. Notice also Citroen (+138.1%), MG (+52.8%) and Xpeng (+37.4%) shining below.
Model-wise, the Skoda Elroq (+5.5%) cements its dominance and overtake the Toyota bZ4X (-21%) for the YTD top spot. Skoda manages a 1-2 with the Enyaq (+121.8%) up two spots on March to #2. The new Toyota C-HR+ climbs 29 ranks on last month to land on the third step of the podium for its 2nd month in market. The VW ID.4 (+7.4%) is down one spot to #4 with the Audi Q4 e-Tron (+5.7%) completing the Top 5. The Xpeng G6 (+44.5%) and Tesla Model Y (+124.8%) score stunning results, with the Mercedes CLA (+791.9%) brilliantly breaking into the Top 10 at #9 and the VW ID.7 (+57.2%) up six ranks to #10.
The Skoda Enyaq is the best-selling vehicle in Switzerland in April.
The Swiss new car market is stable in April at -0.2% year-on-year to 18,618 units. This leads to a year-to-date tally up just 0.3% to 71,600. 4Γ4 sales are up 5.9% to 9,980 and 53.6% share vs. 50.5% a year ago in April 2025. Petrol is down -19.6% to 21.7% share vs. 26.9% last year, diesel off -26.6% to 5.3% share vs. 7.2%, HEVs (including mild hybrids) drop -3.4% to 35.5% share vs. 36.7%, PHEVs are up 16.4% to 12.3% share vs. 10.6% a year ago and BEVs surge 34.6% to 4.683 and 25.2% share vs. 18.6% in April 2025. Year-to-date BEV sales are up 13.3% to 16,097 and 22.5% share vs. 19.9% over the same period in 2025.
This month Skoda (+18.8%) soars to the brands pole position with 11.1% share. This is the 5th time Skoda is #1 in Switzerland after January 2022, April 2024, February 2025 and October 2025. Volkswagen (-2.7%) is toppled to #2 ahead of Mercedes (+5%) up two spots on last month to #3. BMW (-25.8%) and Audi (-21.3%) both struggle and round out the Top 5. Toyota (+7.4%), Renault (+6.1%) and Volvo (+6.5%) all post solid scores below. BYD (+3871.4%) smashes its records for the 2nd month in a row, breaking into the Top 10 for the first time at #10 with 556 sales and 3% share.
Model-wise, Skoda manages a stunning 1-2. The Enyaq (+144.8%) is up nine ranks on March to take the lead for the 5th time ever after October 2021, October, November and December 2023. Meanwhile the Kodiaq (+62%) is up two spots to #2 just 3 sales below. The VW Tiguan (+16.6%) remains at #3 above the Mercedes GLC (+0.3%) and BMW X3 (+69.2%). Still #1 year-to-date, the VW Golf (+26.9%) falls to #6 this month despite a sizeable YoY gain. Outstanding month for the Skoda Elroq (+108.7%) at #7. Notice also the Mercedes CLA (+439.4%) up to #22. The BYD Atto 2 is the best-selling recent launch at #28.
This is the second time Skoda trusts the first two spots after November 2023.
The Renault Duster is the best-selling vehicle in Ukraine in April.
5,612 new cars hit Ukrainian roads in April, a steep -7.4% year-on-year decline, leaving the year-to-date tally hanging by a threat at +0.3% to 20,056 units. Toyota (-5.7%) remains in the brands pole position with 12.5% share, with the Top 4 identical to last month. Renault (+1.5%) takes the 2nd spot ahead of Volkswagen (-21.9%) and Skoda (-23.1%) both in dire straits. In contrast Mazda (+191.5%), BYD (+40.1%), BMW (+16.9%) and Hyundai (+14.2%) ignore the negative context with splendid YoY lifts.Β
Model-wise, the Renault Duster (-16.9%) returns to #1 for the second time this year after last January but remains #2 year-to-date below the Toyota RAV4 (+22.9% in April). The Hyundai Tucson (+4.3%) stays at #3 ahead of the Skoda Kodiaq (-28.8%) and Karoq (+21.1%). The Mazda CX-5 (+166.7%) sports a stunning gain with the Nissan Qashqai (+17.5%) and VW Tiguan (+5.5%) also in positive in the remainder of the Top 10. The VW Touareg (-35.9%), despite a catastrophic YoY loss, still ranks at a world best #7 and is #6 so far this year. The BYD Sealion 6 is the most popular recent launch at #9. Note the Top 14 best-sellers are all SUVs.
The Lada Iskra breaks its ranking record at home in April.
Russian new car sales grow 15.1% year-on-year in April to 117,541 units, however once again this is partly due to a weak year-ago basis given April 2025 was down -25.5% on the year prior. The year-to-date tally after four months stands at 382,450, up 9.6% year-on-year. Local behemoth Lada (+11.8%) posts its first YoY gain since January 2025 and at 27.1% it is at its highest share since May 2025 vs. 25% year-to-date. Haval (+27.6%) delivers an excellent score and manages its highest monthly volume so far this year. As described last month, Tenet, a China-Russia joint venture assembling rebadged Chery vehicles at the ex-Volkswagen Kaluga plant, has stabilised around 10% share, grabbing 10.2% of the market this month. Jaecoo (+73.8%), Toyota (+70.1%) and Belgee (+47.1%) stand out below.
Model-wise, the Lada Granta (-4.1%) falls to 10.6% share vs. 12.7% a year ago, however this is its highest level since last August. The new Tenet T7 is back up to 2nd place with 6.5% share vs. 5.7% so far this year, pushing the Haval Jolion (+20.7%) down to #3. The Lada Vesta (-14.6%) continues to see its volume thaw year-on-year but is up to #4 YTD. Excellent performance by the Lada Niva Travel (+46.1%) at #5. The new Lada Iskra lodges its third ever Top 10 finish, up to a record #7.
The Citroen C3 Aircross is only outsold by the Toyota Corolla this month.
New light vehicle sales in Bulgaria advance by a very solid 18.9% year-on-year in April to 5,271 units, leading to a year-to-date tally up 4.5% to 18,010. Keep in mind a significant part of these registrations never see Bulgarian roads as they are reexported to other EU countries. Skoda (+2%) repeats at #1 with 10.5% share but remains below Toyota (+17.7%) in the year-to-date charts. Volkswagen (+13.8%) stays at #3 ahead of a surging Hyundai (+58.9%). In fact the rest of the Top 8 is identical to the YTD ranking, with Renault (-33.8%) and Dacia (-21.2%) struggling mightily, Citroen (+80.3%) soaring and Kia (-2.7%) edging down. Below, Dongfeng is up an extravagant 1920% year-on-year.
Over in the models charts, the Toyota Corolla (+34.4%) reclaims its usual top spot, toppling the leader of the past two months, the Hyundai i20 (+190.2%) down to #3 for the month. The performer of the month is the Citroen C3 Aircross (+887.5%) up to a record 2nd place overall which leads it to #4 year-to-date vs. #19 over the Full Year 2025. The Skoda Kodiaq (+110%) and Hyundai Tucson (+57%) round out the Top 5. Surreal performance by the Volvo XC60 (+3175%) up 13 spots on March to #6.Β
Honda Accord sales are up 42.5% and tilt the brand into positive.
Three factors have combined to trigger the 4th consecutive year-on-year market decline in the US at -6.7% to 1,367,000 units according to GlobalData. First, April 2025 was propped by a pre-tariff rush that lifted the market by 10%. Second, the loss of federal electric vehicle tax credits have depleted the market for BEVs and third, record high petrol prices have degraded affordability further. The SAAR stands at 16.1 million according to Motor Intelligence, down from 17.2 million in April 2025 and 16.3 million last month.
Illustrating the impact of tariffs,Β Imports are down 16% for the month and -9.9% year-to-date whereas vehicles produced in North America fall just -3.9% in April and -3.5% year-to-date. Manufacturers are doing their best to counter affordability pressure. According to JD Power and GlobalData, the average incentives on non-EV vehicles stands at $2,860, a whopping 16% more than April 2025. Meanwhile average EV incentives are significantly higher at $10,018, however down -1.7% on a year ago.
All OEMs reporting monthly data are down. American Honda resists best at -0.2% while Hyundai-Kia is at -2.1% and Toyota Motor at -4.6%. Brand-wise, Honda (+1.6%) and Genesis (+0.8%) are the only ones reporting in positive. Hyundai (-1.7%), Toyota (-1.9%), Kia (-2.8%) and Subaru (-5.9%) contain their loss even though this isΒ Subaruβs 9th consecutive month of YoY declines. In contrast Ford (-14.1%), Acura (-15.6%), Mazda (-17.3%), Lexus (-19.9%) and Lincoln (-21.4%) all struggle.
The Ford F-Series remains the dominant force in the market but falls a stark -14.7% year-on-year, in line with the -15.7% it lost so far in 2026. The Honda CR-V (+2.9%) smashes its archenemy the Toyota RAV4 (-32.8%) by almost 15,000 sales and extends its YTD advantage to a probably insurmountable 54,000 units. In a mini sedan revival, the Toyota Camry (+17.9%) and Corolla (+12.6%) surprise with double-digit gains while the Honda Civic (+6.3%) is more measured but still in positive. Excellent results for the Honda Accord (+42.5%), Ford Transit (+22%) and Bronco (+18.6%).Β
