Looks like Samsung will first unveil the One UI 8.5 roadmap before starting the Stable update’s rollout. The software may start rolling out on Wednesday, as the May 4 release window could be avoided due to regional considerations.

Samsung users are quite frustrated due to a lack of communication. As always, Samsung is refraining from revealing a release timeline. Well, an online chat with a Samsung representative brought some good news.

Chat support declined to give a timeline, but hinted that the One UI 8.5 roadmap will be published under the Notice section of the Members app.

Roadmap is a well-crafted chart that carries an update schedule for various devices. Samsung usually sticks to its rollout plans unless a major flaw is identified. That said, the roadmap will be a crucial development in One UI 8.5 story.

Update windows differ for markets, carriers, and other aspects. South Korea has become the prime spot for Samsung’s updates. Germany previously led the way along with Korea, but Samsung now prefers its home ground.

Our assumptions point to May 6 for South Korea, followed by Global markets within a week. A Canadian moderator ruled out the possibility of a simultaneous rollout for a wide range of models, so an undefined delay is likely.

Samsung is currently running the One UI 8.5 Beta Program. The testing activity is live for plenty of Galaxy devices, including flagships, foldables, tablets, and mid-range models.

Unlike the Galaxy S25 series, the Beta Program has limited availability for other models. Some are available in six markets, while others are capped to either Korea or India.

New car sales in Iceland drop a harsh -28.6% year-on-year in April to just 1,033. However thanks to a stunning Q1 result (+54.3%), the year-to-date tally after 4 months is still in frank positive at +21.9% to  4,516. This month Toyota (-27.5%) takes the lead of the brands charts despite match the market’s fall. It distances Kia (-67.6%), which is still leader year-to-date.

Suzuki (+88.9%) and even more strikingly Mitsubishi (+971.4%) brave the gloomy context to post sensations gains. Renault (+614.3%) and Peugeot (+166.7%) also show great health in the remainder of the Top 10. BYD (-5.6%) is the best-selling Chinese brand at #9, followed by Xpeng (+8%) at #11. Tesla is off -68% to #13.

Model-wise, the Kia Sportage returns to the top spot it holds year-to-date, followed by the Toyota Yaris and Mitsubishi Outlander. The Renault Trafic and Suzuki Vitara round out the Top 5 ahead of the Suzuki Swift and a new entry: the Mitsubishi Colt, a rebadge of the Renault Clio. Stable One UI 8.5 missed its April 30 release window, and May 4 may meet the same fate. Samsung hasn’t released the rollout roadmap either. This is not the treatment Galaxy loyalists deserve, even for a mid-cycle software update.

It was initially rumored that Stable One UI 8.5 may release on April 30 in Korea and on May 4 in the Global market. It’s May 4 today, and the update rollout hasn’t begun yet; meanwhile, inputs suggest another potential delay.

Here’s why Samsung could skip the One UI 8.5 release today

April 30 window was reportedly avoided due to the Labour Day holiday on the following date. Now, May 4 looks to be sidelined as well, given South Korea’s Children’s Day holiday on May 5 [source].

Wednesday, the day after tomorrow, is now shaping up to be the strongest contender for the release of Stable One UI 8.5 update. Samsung usually drops major updates on either Monday or Wednesday; that said, we may see the rollout on May 6.

Avoiding release around non-working days is a strategic move. In case the software faces a severe flaw, the expansion should be paused. If the staff are on holiday, the penetration can’t be controlled, and the damage can be worse.

Galaxy S25 users in six countries have already received a near-stable build as the 10th Beta. Several new AI features have also been installed. Samsung may have also prepared for the prime time, and it could finally be Wednesday.

Note that the timeline hasn’t been confirmed by Samsung. The information is based on facts and inputs in the community forums. The company could even surprise its fans today by starting the rollout for the Galaxy S25 series.

In July last year, Samsung released the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 as the first phones to feature Android 16-based One UI 8.0. Despite having the same Android version, One UI 8.5 has officially surpassed its predecessor in test duration, as Galaxy device users are still waiting for this update.

The One UI 8.0 beta program kicked off on May 28 with the Galaxy S25 series, with the stable update released on September 15th. So, One UI 8.0 for the Galaxy S25 series with a major Android release adopted in 3 months and 18 days.

On December 7, 2025, Samsung opened the One UI 8.5 beta program for the same lineup. However, it’s still not closed as of May 3rd. Subsequently, its overall test duration has expanded to 4 months and 26 days.

Since One UI 8.5 is based on Android 16, its platform is already tested and adapted to the Galaxy S25 series. So, the only thing that the company needed to do was to test the latest One UI 8.5 features on top of Android 16.

Eventually, the question arises, why take such a long time? From a technical point of view, this rollout delay is unexplained. The development and testing of this software update should have been completed by March.

There’s no point in taking such a long time in distribution, as it has nothing to test on the platform upgrade. So, the only work that has to be done on the new feature is compatibility with eligible phones.

Even if the compatibility is taking time, along with bug solving. The lack of transparency is another major issue with Samsung, which hasn’t announced any details on the rollout to bring a resolution to consumers.

Samsung hasn’t closed the One UI 8.5 beta program, making it the longest software testing campaign to date. This is not an achievement to take proud at, but a matter of shame for the world’s largest smartphone-selling company.

The program opened on December 7 for the Galaxy S25 series. The first beta was released on the same day of enrollment, and the company has expanded the number with 9 more betas to date. These updates introduced a couple of new features and UI upgrades, as well as bug fixes for the participating models.

Later on, a couple of other phones, such as Galaxy Z Fold 7/Flip 7, as well as previous-gen flagships such as S24 and S23 series, also joined the program.

Past leaks and rumors had it that the beta program would conclude on April 30th with a stable release for Korean users. This speculation included expansion to global users in early May.

However, none of that happened, making the One UI 8.5 the longest beta program the company has ever opened. The total length of the test has reached 4 months and 26 days, and the counter is still on.

Still, Samsung hasn’t announced a release date for the final build, but it could get it done before mid-May. However, nothing is certain from this point of view. For example, past leaks regarding the rollout have been proven false, and we will only believe it when Samsung actually releases the update and closes the program.

One UI 8.5 rollout is about to begin, and dozens of Galaxy models are lined up to receive this feature-rich upgrade that doesn’t look like an incremental upgrade at all. It brings numerous visual upgrades, new features, and expanded customization options that really level up the software experience.

Among the long list of changes coming to One UI 8.5, there are five features I am most excited about. I really wish Samsung would bring them to the majority of eligible devices.

1. Modern Liquid Glass interface with smoother animations

One UI 8.5 introduces Liquid Glass design for the first time on Galaxy devices. We know where the inspiration comes from (hello, Apple). The updated design language emphasizes transparency, floating surfaces, rounded controls, and soft depth effects across core apps and the system UI, making One UI feel more premium and modern.

Part of this new design language includes floating navigation bars with semi-transparent panels and more pronounced blur and shadow layering to create a “glass” feel. You’ll see it in the Settings app and first-party apps like Dialer, Gallery, and Calculator, replacing the traditional flat, rectangular navigation bar. The back button and other controls appear as separated floating elements, allowing more room for content.

The new Liquid Glass design is most prominent in Samsung’s own apps, but other areas, including notifications, widgets, and the control center, also receive a subtle glass-style treatment.

2. Fully customizable Quick Panel

The Quick Panel in One UI 8.5 is receiving its biggest customization update yet. You can now move tiles and widgets wherever you want, resize them, or change their orientation to create a layout that is perfect for you. You can even remove every toggle to get an almost empty panel.

Brightness and volume sliders are also part of the latest changes, with the ability to switch between horizontal and portrait-style layouts. You can customize the panel however you like instead of using Samsung’s default layout. The panel can become messy if you over-customize, but Samsung’s got you covered. You can easily reset to the default layout.

3. Calling gets a major AI upgrade

One UI 8.5 brings major upgrades to calling, now allowing the phone to automatically answer unknown or suspected spam calls. The AI assistant asks the caller’s purpose, shows you a live transcript, and lets you decide whether to pick up or mark as spam. This is a big step up from the manual Bixby Text Call, helping you avoid interruptions from robocalls or telemarketers.

You can also enable the auto answer with AI feature to let the device automatically answer calls after a specific delay (5-30 seconds) and provide a live text transcript. This is particularly useful when you are busy or have Do Not Disturb enabled, allowing you to see the caller’s query via a live transcript before even picking up the call.

One UI 8.5 also introduces a direct voicemail feature that lets callers leave a voice message directly on your device rather than a carrier server. You can see the live transcript of the voicemail as it is being recorded in real-time.

Even during a normal call, you can see real-time call options, making it easier to follow in loud environments. Another small but useful upgrade is that the Now Bar shows a dedicated counter for missed calls, making it easier to track without unlocking the device.

4. A new Creative Studio app for AI creativity

Samsung has added a new Creative Studio app in One UI 8.5, which is basically a central hub for generative AI creativity. The app lets users create wallpapers, stickers, greeting cards, invitations, and profile cards with simple sketches, existing photos, or text prompts.

The app supports multiple aspect ratios (such as 16:9 and 4:3) and various art styles, including Childhood Sketch, Marker Drawing, and Oil Painting.

5. Sharing files got a lot easier (even with Apple devices)

Samsung has made significant upgrades to file sharing to bridge the gap between its ecosystem and other platforms, particularly Apple devices. A major addition is a new “Share with Apple devices” option in the Quick Settings menu, enabling seamless, high-speed transfers to iPhones, iPads, and Macs that use AirDrop.

One UI 8.5 also makes it easier to access the storage of one Galaxy device directly from another through the My Files app. For example, you can browse photos, music, and documents stored on your Galaxy Tab directly on your Galaxy phone, provided both devices are signed into the same Samsung account.

This software will officially arrive with the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8. Expect a Beta testing phase of almost four to five months. Stable One UI 9 update may begin rolling out to users sometime in September or October this year.

Samsung Galaxy phones set to receive new software updates in Canada next week, which could be the One UI 8.5 too. Users are eagerly awaiting this update, as the Beta Program was just available in select countries.

Enthusiast theonecid posted a carrier’s software roadmap, which indicates that recent Samsung phones are scheduled to receive new updates in Canada on May 9, and the release is highly likely to bring One UI 8.5 features.

The chart mentions the S25 series, the Z Fold 7, and the Z Flip 7. Optimizations + Security Updates are mentioned as the potential content, but it won’t be simply a security booster, as the One UI 8.5 rollout is expected to start on May 4.

Apart from this, the Galaxy S25 Edge and Galaxy S25 FE are also listed. Samsung’s running Beta Program for the Galaxy S25 FE, meanwhile, there’s no such thing for the company’s first (and probably the last) slim phone.

One UI 8.5 comes with a slew of new features and a dynamic user interface. Samsung has also tailored select AI features from the Galaxy S26 series for the Galaxy S25 series, Z Fold 7, and Z Flip 7, and deployed them in Beta.

You get extended Quick Panel customization with the major update. Good Lock apps have also gained new tricks to elevate personalization and performance. The AirDrop connection for Quick Share is worth paying attention to.

One UI 8.5 was originally rumored to come out on April 30. Meanwhile, the Labour Day holiday in South Korea may have delayed the push. Now, the next tentative rollout date is May 4 for South Korea and select countries.

Samsung’s response arrived on the One UI 8.5 rollout missing the rumored April 30 timeline.

The company, responding through a US community moderator, revealed that April 30 was never decided as the One UI 8.5 rollout date. The response also indicates that the release is still not finalized and may face a delay too.

April 30 might have been planned, just like Beta 9 and Beta 10, but Samsung never announced specific dates. Korea celebrates Labour Day today, which is designated as a mandatory holiday across the country.

If the rollout had started yesterday, the software staff would have been on holiday today. In that case, Samsung had no control over the spread of the software update, even if it may have contained harmful bugs and issues.

The response mentions two more terms:

1. Testing results

Samsung prioritizes testing results to decide the release date for updates. The Beta testing was so long and intense, and the software is almost stable. Meanwhile, the final rollout decision is up to the lab engineers.

2. Regional considerations

The moderator’s comment mentions “regional considerations” as a reason that impacts release timelines. South Korea’s Labour Day holiday makes sense here, practically and theoretically as well.

May 4 is the next likely date for the opening of the Stable One UI 8.5 update. It’s Monday, Samsung’s favorite day to release One UI Beta and Stable updates. May 4 could be for South Korea only or for the Global audience.

One UI 8.5 introduces Ambient Design language. It also enables Quick Share to AirDrop sharing, the most useful addition. Beta testers also praise the software’s fluidity and stability, as compared to the One UI 8.0 software.

The Renault 5 is the best-selling BEV in France in April.

After getting back in positive for the first time in 5 months in March, the French new car market is back down -0.3% year-on-year in April to 138,339 units. The year-to-date tally after four months is down -1.6% to 539,895. Petrol sales are down -24.1% to 21,963, diesel is off -42.8% to 3,834, HEVs edge down -1.3% to 62,241, PHEVs drop -13.1% to 8,333 and BEVs surge 41.8% to 36,216 and 26.2% share vs. 18.4% a year ago in April 2025. YTD BEV sales are up 48.2% to 148,302 and 27.5% share vs. 18.2% over the same period in 2025.

Renault (-11.5%) struggles this month and is down to 16.8% share vs. 18.2% so far this year. In contrast Peugeot (+2.8%) edges up, but at 13.3% of the market it remains below its YTD level of 13.9%. Dacia (-5.3%) is in negative once again, yet less so than YTD (-14.7%). Citroen (+11%) is strong thanks to a renewed lineup, and is followed by Volkswagen (+8%) and a diving Toyota (-17%). Skoda is up 6.9% to a record 7th place, also reached in October 2025 and January 2026. MG is estimated to climb +44.8%, with Audi (+24.1%), Opel (+13.9%) and Nissan (+12.8%) also in solid shape.

Model-wise, the Peugeot 208 (+14%) returns to the pole position it last held last January, distancing the Dacia Sandero (+4.8%) down one spot on last month to #1. The new Renault Clio VI is still finding its groove but falls from 4% share in March to 3.7% this month. The Citroen C3 (+12.1%) satisfies with a 4th place and still ranks #2 year-to-date. Disappointing month for the Peugeot 2008 (-12.3%) down to #5. The Renault 5 (+50.8%) is back to the top of the BEV charts at #6 overall and #7 year-to-date. The Citroen C3 Aircross II (+146.2%), Nissan Qashqai (+61.1%) and Renault Scenic V (+44.5%) all impress, just as the VW T-Roc II breaks into the Top 20 for the first time at #17. The BYD Atto 2 (+655.1%) surges 89 spots on March to #42, the Renault 4 (+743.4%) is down 19 ranks to #49, the new Kia EV4 is up 38 to #52 and the Renault Twingo IV is down 32 to #79 as dealerships get filled up with demo models.

Suzuki holds 10.6% of the New Caledonian new car market over Q1.

Q1 volumes in New Caledonia, a French overseas territory located northeast of Australia, gain 44.8% year-on-year to 1,053 units, due to particularly low year-ago results. Suzuki (+115.4%) more than doubles its sales year-on-year to reach 10.6% share, toppling Toyota (+36.4%). Hyundai (+43.7%) matches the market while Dacia (+116.3%) shoots up to 8.8% share. Isuzu (+388.9%), BYD (+311.1%) and Fiat (+310%) post surreal gains below.

Model-wise, the Dacia Duster (+133.3%) dominates the charts with 6.6% share, distancing the Hyundai Tucson (+175%) and Suzuki Swift (+193.8%). The Isuzu D-Max (+485.7%) and Fiat Panda (+3500%) round out the Top 5. Notice also the BAIC X35 at #11, the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross at #12 and the BYD Shark 6 at #23.

Several newer AI features seen on the Galaxy S26 lineup are absent. There’s no sign of Call Screening, Creative Studio, upgraded AI Audio Eraser, Notification Highlights, or Now Nudges in this build, suggesting Samsung is keeping those exclusive.

Camera changes are relatively minor, limited to a few new portrait filters. The Weather app adds precipitation graphs and a pollen index, while the Clock app introduces weather-based alarm backgrounds.

After the Galaxy S23 series, Samsung pushed the One UI 8.5 Beta 2 update to the Galaxy A36, Galaxy A55 and Galaxy A35. The software is now available for Beta participants in India.

It is a cleanup-focused update, targeting a few noticeable annoyances from the first build. Users can identify the update via the PDA build version ZZDC/7/9, which also carries the latest April 2026 security patch.

The most important fix addresses Bluetooth behavior. Autoscan wasn’t triggering properly when users entered the Bluetooth menu, which could make device discovery feel broken.

Performance tuning is also part of this build, as spotted by Mohammed Khatri. Samsung has worked on reducing the lag when pulling down the Quick Panel, which should make everyday interactions feel smoother and more responsive.

On the UI side, there’s a fix for an issue where the message input field would overlap with the navigation bar. It’s a small bug, but one that directly impacts usability while typing.

Lastly, Samsung has patched System UI ANR (probably App Not Responding) issues that appeared after FOTA (firmware over-the-air) updates. This should improve overall stability and reduce random freezes tied to system processes.

Overall, Beta 2 doesn’t bring new features, but it tightens up performance and fixes some rough edges from the initial release.

Samsung is days away from pushing the stable One UI 8.5 build, but the latest Beta is still flagging optimization and touch delay issues on the Galaxy S25 series.

While testing Beta 10 on the Galaxy S25 Ultra, I ran into a system-level warning that should not be showing up this late in the cycle. A pop-up appeared stating that “One UI Home isn’t optimized for the latest version of Android.”

What followed was more concerning.

Touch input started lagging, not outright freezing, but delayed enough to break interaction flow, with some taps not registering at all.

The issue became more obvious when using the search. Triggering it caused a full launcher crash; the UI didn’t reboot cleanly either.

Instead, the system entered a half-responsive state. The Quick Panel could still be pulled down, which suggests the system UI thread was alive, but actions inside it were dead. Tapping “Start Recording” or similar toggles did nothing.

There is a workaround, and it’s oddly manual, via MojoTrick. Repeatedly swiping back to the home screen eventually restores responsiveness. That lines up with a temporary blockage in the launcher or UI rendering pipeline.

This bug sits in an uncomfortable spot. The fact that it’s tied to One UI Home optimization suggests something isn’t fully aligned between One UI 8.5 and the underlying Android build.

With the stable rollout expected this Thursday, the question is simple: Does Samsung already have a patched build ready, or is this slipping into release firmware unnoticed?

Samsung’s One UI 8.5 Beta 2 update has started rolling out to the Galaxy S23 series. The latest software update carries the PDA version ZZDP, which brings fixes for key issues linked to the display, calling, camera, and more.

The update improves call reliability, addressing cases where the screen would turn black or respond late when receiving a call. It also fixes problems with the proximity sensor during calls, which could behave inconsistently.

Camera stability gets a boost too, with a fix for green line issues that appeared while recording 4K HDR videos in some apps. Samsung has now addressed it, so video recording should be cleaner.

One of the notable fixes targets the “green line” problem, but this isn’t the display defect some users worry about. Instead, it was a camera-related glitch that could show green lines while recording 4K HDR videos in certain apps.

On top of that, Samsung has improved Bluetooth stability to prevent crashes. The update also resolves a multi-touch issue that could occur when certain accessibility settings were enabled, making overall touch response reliable.

One thing that caught my attention is the continuity of security patch. Samsung should have included the May 2026 security patch. Instead, the second Beta retains the current security patch dated April 5, 2026.

Earlier, Samsung started the One UI 8.5 Beta Program and delivered the first Beta. The opportunity opens access to the upcoming software. Beta is limited to select markets, and Stable rollout may start by the end of next month.

As is the case every year, BSCB had the opportunity to attend the China Auto Show in 2026, this time in Beijing. Firstly the Show is now a dual-venue format, held at the old China Exhibition Center (Shunyi Hall) and the adjacent all new Capital International Exhibition Center of China (CIECC). Combined, the two venues feature no less than 17 indoor exhibition halls across a record-breaking 380,000 square meters, or over 50 football fields. I walked 21 km across two days to cover all brands showcased inside the two buildings.

As per 2024 and 2025, we will cover the Show in three different articles: notable foreigners, notable domestic brands and the 3 most impressive brands overall. We will go through almost 200 pictures and just under 40 brands. Let’s start with studying the notable foreign brands present at the Show, in alphabetical order.

Audi 

Last year Audi made a splash by launching a new China-only brand in cooperation with SAIC: AUDIi in capital letters instead of the four rings. Hopes were high this would revive the German manufacturer, and the E5 sportback was presented. However the E5 EV only accumulated a little more than 10,000 units since its launch in August, peaking at 2,630 sales last month. Only a drop in the ocean of the very competitive Chinese EV market, and as a result Audi sales are down again over Q1 2026. One year on, and with added pressure to succeed, the carmaker presented the E7X electric SUV, featuring the same end-to-end digital dashboard and digital rear view mirrors, and the same LED light both at the front and back as the E5. One more EV is scheduled to start in 2027, a pace of new launches far from what the Chinese are doing.

BMW 

BMW came to the Show all guns blazing with a gigantic stand across two sections of its hall (see picture above). Its main new model is the iX3 SUV, which in my view is one of the most beautiful car designs currently on sale.

Ford

I was very impressed by the large digital tile on the Ford Mondeo Sport’s dashboard. Foreign carmakers are really trying their best to remain competitive. In the case of Ford, it is also badly needed as sales are down -30.9% year-on-year over Q1 2026.

Hyundai

At the Show, Hyundai officially (and belatedly) launched the Ioniq NEV brand in China. It did so with the Ioniq V, a strikingly angular vehicle, as per the brand’s usage of exploring new design frontiers. The dashboard features the now mandatory digital tile expanding to the passenger side.

Jetta

Volkswagen’s attempt at a China-only low cost brand, Jetta, launched in 2019. It has had disappointing results ever since and vegetates at #41 in the brands charts in March with just over 9,000 sales. The issue is it didn’t offer any NEV models. This is all about to change, with the Beijing Auto Show the stage for the brand’s complete relaunch, including a new logo. The only visible vehicle on the stand though is a concept: the Jetta X, a rugged all-electric SUV. The brand says it will launch four new NEV models by 2028, and one sedan was displayed in camouflage.

Lexus

Lexus’s only “news” in China in 2026 is the ES sedan which was unveiled last year at the Shanghai Auto Show. The ES interior is now visible and features a large digital tile extending to the passenger as is now the “norm” in China. The ES is still scheduled to be produced in the brand’s new Shanghai plant in 2027 and will be the first Lexus built in China.

Nissan 

Nissan has rightfully embarked on a series of China-only model EV launches. Last year it showcased the N7 sedan. After a fantastic start (10,148 sales last August), the N7 has fallen to just 587 units in February and 1,382 in March. Nissan has also added the N6 which peaked at 6,822 sales in December but dropped to 2,665 last month. Wildly varying scores make it difficult to call them a success or failure so far. Now the brand is launching the NX8 SUV, proposed in EV and EREV versions, and which reportedly secured 8,423 orders within the first 30 minutes of sales. Very encouraging but let’s see whether the model can sustain strong sales after launch unlike the N6 and N7.

Nissan also showcased the Terrano PHEV concept, prefiguring the return of the legendary nameplate as a capable off-road SUV.

Peugeot

A total surprise for me at the Show is the presence of Peugeot (and Citroen). The French manufacturer, in doldrums sales-wise (975 units in March), presented two new concepts: the Concept 6 shooting brake sedan and Concept 8 SUV. The stand also had the Polygon Concept (an advance look at the future 208) and the Citroen Elo concept. The two new Peugeot concepts prefigure a ‌new ⁠line-up of large sedans and SUVs, produced in China for China, as well as for export from China to ​Peugeot’s overseas ​markets. The first of these new Chinese-built models is expected to launch in 2027. The stand also featured Peugeot’s new visual identity: three horizontal stripes forming the shape of the head- and backlights.

Smart 

Smart, now a Mercedes-Benz/Geely joint venture, has unveiled the #6, its first sedan, which will be confined to China. It is the brand’s largest vehicle to date, and is badly needed as sales figures are dismal (1,717 sales in March). The task will be difficult, and the carmaker has completely changed the way it does interiors with the #6 featuring end-to-end digital tile as is now the norm in vehicles aimed at the Chinese customer.

Toyota Wildlander Wildlander details

Toyota

Toyota outsold (just) Volkswagen in March and has managed to contain its YoY loss over Q1 to -5%, a strong result given the environment foreign brands find themselves in in 2026. The Show was the opportunity for me to discover the new generation RAV4 (and its twin the Wildlander) in the flesh. Note it’s the Wildlander that uses the international look whereas the RAV4 proposes a more squared front. Toyota always opts for conservatism and tried and tested features over extravagant advances. True to form, the RAV4/Wildlander’s interior is solid but its screens are rather small in the current context.

Toyota bZ7

Toyota also presented the bZ7 flagship sedan which secured over 3,100 orders one hour after launch, but was rather shy with it as it only showed one example on its stand. Of note is that Toyota was the busiest foreign brand’s stand during the public days.

Samsung is all set to deploy the stable One UI 8.5 software update as soon as this week. Based on leaks, the company is poised to release this firmware update to all Galaxy S25 series users starting April 30.

The program kicked off in early December and has seen 10 beta releases so far. Making it the most criticised software testing campaign Samsung has ever launched. The most recent software has brought new AI features and bug fixes.

On its way to the final release, the phone maker also added previous models to the test pool. That includes Galaxy S24 series, Fold/Flip 6, flagship tablets, and mid-range devices.

Besides, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 are the first to start the program’s expansion. So, these two foldables are likely to get the stable update alongside the Galaxy S25 series. However, we’ll have to wait for the actual release because it’s Samsung that we’re talking about.

One UI 8.5 brings UI upgrades for the lock screen and new AI features such as real-time background noise removal for third-party apps. It also smoothens animations and app transitions. This update will bring three new camera filters and Quick Share to AirDrop file transfer capability. Some apps are also redesigned for a better user experience.

Samsung is testing the firmware for many devices, but the initial rollout will be limited. That said, the first update will be available for users in Korea, and expansion will follow in the coming days and weeks for all users. We may soon see a roadmap for different countries once the stable update hits eligible devices.

If you are using a Galaxy S25, S25+, or S25 Ultra and are stuck in the One UI 8.5 beta program, good news might be on the way. We are already on Beta 10 in some regions, and many owners (including me) are wondering if Samsung is finally ready to release the stable version.

Based on multiple reports, rumors, and Samsung’s software rollout pattern, there’s a strong chance the stable One UI 8.5 could start rolling out as early as next week or Monday.

Samsung kicked off the One UI 8.5 beta program for the S25 series months ago, and it’s turned into one of the longest beta testing programs ever. Normally, Samsung does 7 or 8 builds before going stable, but this time the company pushed 10 beta builds.

The latest Beta 10 (or Beta 9 in some countries) came with useful fixes, new camera filters, better AirDrop-style Quick Share support for Apple devices, and a bunch of Galaxy AI tweaks.

Adding to the excitement, we have already checked the full stable version changelog earlier this week, which means the final build is ready.

On top of that, Samsung customer support has quietly confirmed to some users that the Galaxy S25 series should get the stable update starting April 30 in South Korea, with global markets (including India and the US) following around May 4. That’s basically next week for most of us.

Why the rush now? Samsung is already working on the One UI 9 beta for the Galaxy S26 series. You can expect the public beta in late May or early June. To start the One UI 9 beta program early, Samsung first needs to finish the 8.5 beta program.

Of course, Samsung hasn’t made any official announcement yet, so these are still rumors based on leaks and support chats. But the pattern matches how Samsung usually works, once the changelog is out in public and betas hit double digits, stable is very close.

For any other device, Samsung will push you into May for sure. I will surely cover the possible timeline for the remaining Galaxy S-series and Foldables.

Recently, Samsung released the 10th One UI 8.5 beta with bug fixes and system improvements; unfortunately, it also marks the return of a lock screen issue.

This beta update has added new AI features such as call screening and real-time audio eraser. Besides, it fixed issues on the call screen and the proximity sensor, video recording, Bluetooth, and touch features. After the installation, we’ve found that the software is running smoother than beta 9. However, the lock screen has a random frame lag issue in certain scenarios.

For example, when you tap on the Now Brief notification from the Now bar, the screen lags, then transitions to the AI-generated summary. Sometimes, the same happens for the notifications, when you open the notifications, and the screen either skips a frame or stutters before asking you for authentication. I first noticed this issue in beta 5, and beta 7 worked as a fix. However, Beta 10 has brought it back.

One thing to confirm is that the frame lag is random and only appears when you don’t use the phone. This doesn’t break any lock screen feature or interrupt the interactions. Still, even random frame lags could disrupt the user experience?

We’re almost at the end of the One UI 8.5 beta program for the Galaxy S25 series, and the next update should mark the conclusion. Samsung’s 10th One UI 8.5 Beta for Galaxy S25 series is impressive enough, but there are still some features that separate it from the Galaxy S26 series.

Back in February, Samsung introduced the Galaxy S26 series and highlighted its best features, such as Now Nudge, AI-enhanced notifications with Summarise and Prioritise functions, 24MP mode to native camera and Horizon Lock.

Over the past couple of weeks, Samsung has brought various new features from the Galaxy S26 series to the Galaxy S25 series. It includes AirDrop connection, Call Screening, Creative Studio as well as enhanced Audio Eraser and Photo Assist.

Meanwhile, some of the best features are still absent, and there’s no scope for an imminent rollout anytime soon.

Now Nudge

AI-powered Now Nudge is what shows how Samsung is pushing into proactive AI in a serious way. Your phone starts suggesting actions before you even think about them. Not always perfect, but when it works, it feels one step ahead.

AI-enhanced notifications

Galaxy S26’s new Prioritise notifications and Summarise notifications fix something that’s been broken for years. When enabled, the Galaxy phone decides what matters and cleans up the rest in the notification panel.

24MP camera mode

The 24MP camera mode is a quiet upgrade that actually makes sense. Not everyone wants 200MP shots eating storage. This sits right in the middle of the full 200-megapixel resolution and the cropped 12-megapixel.

Shots taken with 24MP mode occupy less storage in the phone’s memory, while preserving details equivalent to the 50MP mode. Bringing it to the native camera app will benefit Galaxy users, especially those who shoot more often.

The Galaxy S25 hasn’t been ignored entirely

Call Screening is genuinely useful, especially in markets where spam calls are a daily headache. Creative Studio pushes AI editing beyond gimmicks. The AirDrop-style sharing is long overdue and works well.

Additionally, the recent expansion of Samsung’s enhanced Audio Eraser and Photo Assist shows that Samsung isn’t holding everything back. However, the core Galaxy S26 experience is currently limited to only those models.

Everything so far suggests Samsung is keeping those headline AI features exclusive, at least for now. If they ever land on the Galaxy S25, it’s more likely with One UI 9, and even that’s a maybe.

Over the past couple of days, new Beta builds surfaced on the internet. The updates will be rolled out to the users of the Galaxy S24 series and the Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7.

Beyond that, Samsung would also release new Beta updates for the Galaxy S23 series and mid-range phones that have joined the Beta Program in April 2026.

Samsung will be busy with the Galaxy S25 series in May 2026. However, we may see the update rolling out for select older flagships too, such as the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7.

Once the stability of the firmware is verified through the Galaxy S25 series, expansion should progress swiftly. The end of May and the beginning of June will be important for users who are awaiting the One UI 8.5 update.

Samsung’s April 2026 security update was supposed to be routine, but it’s turning into another battery drain headache for Galaxy S25 and S24 series users, and it’s happening far too soon after the Galaxy Watch mess.

Reports started surfacing days after the update hit the Galaxy S25 lineup in early April, first in South Korea, then elsewhere. Devices that used to last a full day are now dropping from 70 or even 90 percent to zero in a matter of hours.

Users are also noticing higher device temperatures during regular use, not heavy gaming or camera sessions. Some are even running into charging irregularities, where the phone either charges unusually slowly or heats up while plugged in.

Right now, there’s no official explanation from Samsung, which leaves users piecing things together. Two suspects keep coming up:

1. Knox Matrix
2. Mobile Services

Knox Matrix was updated quietly as part of the patch, and some users believe it’s triggering excessive background activity, possibly tied to cross-device syncing or security checks.

Linking to Mobile Services, a few users tracked unusually high data usage from these system apps after the update, suggesting something is constantly communicating with Samsung’s servers.

Users have tried the usual troubleshooting steps.

Booting into Safe Mode, clearing the cache partition, enabling battery saver, even rolling back or disabling certain services. Some report temporary relief. Others see no change at all.

Some users claim Safe Mode helped reset whatever was misbehaving, but once back to normal mode, the drain often returns. Samsung will likely push a follow-up patch.

The Galaxy S-series smartphones are the highest-selling Samsung devices, accounting for millions of units sold worldwide. The company offers these phones with powerful processors, high-quality cameras, large power backup, long software update support, and more. However, one part of these phones isn’t really appreciated by consumers, and it is the phone’s launch date-based rollout priority.

In the past five years, Samsung has drastically changed its software policy for S Series, Foldables, and non-flagship phones. However, it’s the Galaxy S-series that is at the center of all discussions.

Starting with the Galaxy S24, Samsung started offering 7 major OS upgrades and 7 years of security updates. So, we have three Galaxy S-series phones that are part of the 7 major software updates club:

• Galaxy S24 series (2024)
• Galaxy S25 series (2025)
• Galaxy S26 series (2026)

Not to forget, the Galaxy S23 series is eligible for four OS updates. It means this lineup will also get Android 17 (One UI 9).

All of these phones are well-received and praised by consumers. Yet, the same consumers are also criticising the way Samsung is treating their phones as time passes by.

To be specific, Samsung releases One UI beta for three phones, the most recent flagship. Then expand it to the program to the most recent foldables. The next phase includes the S-series from the year before. And the cycle continues in that descending order for all eligible phones.

Now comes the important part. The first phone to enter the beta also receives the first stable update. Since the latter devices entered the beta program on a separate timeline, their beta program will close later. In other words, the rollout dates for devices will vary.

Previous-gen S-series users criticize Samsung for these practices. They say Samsung has reduced the importance of their phones in terms of OS upgrades, even though they paid the same price as the most recent release. They also suggest that all Galaxy S-series phones should get major OS updates together, instead of different dates.

That’s true, the Galaxy S24 and S24 Ultra cost as much as the S26 Ultra, which makes them as important as the other devices. The S23 Ultra, on the other hand, is only $100 less than these three generations. So, basically, all of these customers have paid a high price to buy these phones.

Yet, the first shot at a major update belongs to the most recent flagships. Then, gradually turns its eyes toward other devices.

Why does it happen?

It’s about the development. Samsung has a process of developing the firmware first for the most recent releases. Then move the development toward previous generations based on their release dates.

Though this is a common software development practice among Android smartphone makers, it doesn’t suit the company that claims to be the top smartphone maker in the world.

In fact, it becomes very crucial at a time when Samsung is directly competing against Apple in markets like the U.S. Apple has a long-standing practice of releasing software updates simultaneously for many iPhones. And they’re consistent on that part.

Some argue that Apple releases only three or four phones a year, but Samsung releases many. That’s true, but you can’t put this logic on consumers who care about their own devices, and why should they care about the company’s overall sales? They are buying phones based on their face value.

For example, I have a Galaxy S26 Ultra, and I want the major software updates as soon as they are released. I don’t care about how many flagships or non-flagship phones Samsung has to cover with the latest update; I will only care about my device, and that’s how it is for the majority of consumers.

In reality, the update priority for Galaxy S26 Ultra will start to decline once the S27 hits the market. That cycle will continue with the following release. This can be seen as a potential case of consumer discrimination.

How to fix this problem?

If Samsung cannot provide updates for all of its devices at once, it should at least release the software update for the S-series and Foldable lineups at the same time. Followed by other price categories. If Samsung is running low on developers, hire new ones to maintain the rollout consistency.

Why it should be done

The company should treat these S-series and foldables with equal priority. There are two reasons why it should be done.

First, it provides consumer satisfaction. Seeing their phones getting new updates on time builds brand reputation. It’s an unprompted expression that expands ecosystem awareness from one user to another. That also works as indirect promotion, which is more powerful than paid ads.

Second, if the user has to wait for the release, they will share that experience with other users and other people in their circle. It wasn’t the case before, but consumers have become more aware of what they’re getting for what they’re paying. Therefore, it will leave a bad impression.

Reflecting on the second reason, I’ve seen a bunch of people commenting that Apple provides updates all at once, or my next phone will be an iPhone. These are the most common comments that I’ve come across in different online communities and conversations.

Who knows, they might eventually hold on to their thoughts by the end of their Samsung flagship’s lifespan.

Before that happens, Samsung needs a drastic change in its major updates and release strategy for the Galaxy S-series, its best seller. This is the least improvement consumers are expecting from the company.

Check the security status of your devices: Keep all your devices protected. Knox Matrix now shows when any of the supported devices signed in to your Samsung account need a software update for the latest security protections.

Accessibility

Easily control Bluetooth hearing aids: Access settings for your Bluetooth hearing aids directly from the Accessibility shortcut. A pop-up will appear that lets you change your hearing program, turn Ambient sound on or off, and more.

Control magnification with mouse or keyboard: Keep what you need magnified in view with these new options. You can make the magnified area follow the cursor as you type or move when you change focus using the keyboard. When using a mouse, you can make the magnified area shift as you move the pointer to the edge of the screen.

Dwell action and Corner actions: The Auto action after pointer stops feature has been divided into 2 features. Dwell action lets you set custom actions when your mouse stops moving for a certain amount of time. Corner actions let you set a different action for each corner of the screen.
