Android 17 ‘Cinnamon Bun’ Beta 1 rolls out – Check what’s new
Google has begun rolling out Android 17 Beta 1 to eligible Pixel devices. The beta was supposed to launch on Wednesday, February 11, but it was delayed for a couple of days. Google didn’t explain the reason for the delay, only saying the update was “coming soon.” Now, the beta is finally available for users who are enrolled in the Android beta program.
Android 17 is codenamed “Cinnamon Bun”. This beta update brings several improvements and some visual changes. One of the changes is that apps targeting Android 17 must now use adaptive layouts. This makes apps look good on all screen sizes and ensures a smoother experience on different Pixel devices.
The update also adds new camera features, which fix problems like video glitches or skipping when switching between camera modes. This should make recording videos smoother and more reliable.

There are also some design updates. The brightness icon has been updated, and the location indicator is now slightly darker to make it easier to see. The Gemini screen shrink animation can now be used from a corner swipe, without needing to activate the overlay from the power button.
Moreover, the Settings menus are now more compact. The volume overflow icon has been changed from three dots to a settings icon, which turns into a waveform when media plays.
If you have a recent Pixel device, including the Pixel 6, 6a, 7, 7a, 8, 8a, 9, Pixel Fold, or Pixel Tablet, you can get Android 17 Beta 1 via an OTA update. If you are not enrolled yet, you can sign up through Google’s Android beta website.
This first beta allows users to try out Android 17 early. It is the start of testing for new features, and feedback from beta users will help make the final version more stable and polished. Stay tuned for more information.
