As the end of the year approaches, the Irish new car market falls into oblivion as usual. October sales endure their first YoY fall since May at -9.3% to 2,191. The year-to-date tally is still in positive however at +3.4% to 123,857. Skoda (+41.1%) surges ahead to score its 2nd win in the past 3 months with a dominant 12.4% share. Kia (+8.2%) is up three spots on last month to #2 while Volkswagen (-20.2%) sinks to #3. Leader year-to-date, Toyota implodes -39.5% to #4 and 8.2% share vs. 13.6% so far this year. Dacia (+66.7%) and BYD (+58.8%) are the only two additional gainers in the Top 10, with the latter breaking its ranking and share records at #7 and 4.9%.

The Hyundai Tucson (+68.9%) returns to the pole position it holds year-to-date with 3.5% share. The event of the month is the landing of the new Kia EV4 directly in 2nd place for its first month of sales. Granted, this is a weak month that is bound to be volatile but this is still a great achievement. The Skoda Octavia (-8.1%) is up two ranks on September to #3 while the new BYD Sealion 7 is up to a record 4th place. The Skoda Enyaq (+2250%) is euphoric at #7 vs. #53 year-to-date while the new VW Tayron breaks into the Top 10 for the second time at #8, outselling its little brother the Tiguan (#15). Two new models reach their best ranking in the world: the Opel Frontera up 155 spots to #11 and the Renault 4 landing at #21.

Taiwan October 2025: Honda (+52.7%), CMC (+25.9%) stand out in shy market

5 November 2025 at 08:59

The HR-V helps push Honda to #2 brand in October.

In early September, the Taiwanese government extended the NT$50,000 reduction in commodity tax for trade-ins, and further increased the reduction to NT$50,000 for passenger cars under 2.0 litres, coupled with the proposed extension of the exemption of license plate tax for electric vehicles to 2030. This results in a +3.9% year-on-year increase of sales in October to 34,511 units. The year-to-date tally remains however in frank negative at -12.4% to 330,648. Toyota (-0.2%) is stable and lodges a strong 31% share vs. 30.5% so far this year. Honda (+52.7%) is euphoric in 2nd place with 7.5% share compared to 5.3% through October. Lexus (-5.5%) struggles unlike CMC (+25.9%) and Hyundai (+12.5%) below. BMW (+13.5%) is the only additional gainer in the Top 10. Tesla (-95.9%) falls to just 21 sales.

Model-wise, the Toyota Corolla Cross (+14.7%) remains ultra dominant at 11.6% share, distancing the Toyota RAV4 (-6.6%) and Yaris Cross (+4.7%). It’s another splendid month for the Honda HR-V (+170.3%) up a further two spots on September to #4. It overtakes the new CMC J Space confirming its success at 3.7% share. The Corolla Altis (+79.2%) and Town Ace (-48%) make it 5 Toyotas in the Top 7. Excellent performances also by the Ford Focus (+45.6%) and Mitsubishi Delica (+20.3%). The new MG G50 Plus climbs 11 ranks to #24.

Argentina October 2025: Toyota Hilux back to #1, VW Tera breaks into Top 10

5 November 2025 at 05:50

The VW Tera is an instant blockbuster in Argentina.

It’s another month of spectacular growth for new light vehicle sales in Argentina at +17.3% year-on-year to 49,111 units. This is the highest October result in 8 years: since October 2017 (76,096). Toyota (-13.9%) continues to dominate despite a harsh YoY loss. Like in September, it distances Volkswagen (-2.2%) and Fiat (-2.9%) also in difficulty. In contrast the next three carmakers all beat the market: Chevrolet (+104.1%) is the most dynamic ahead of Ford (+46.1%) and Renault (+32.6%). Nissan (+26.6%) and Citroen (+22.6%) also shine in the remainder of the Top 10. BAIC (+627.9%) doubles its September market share at 2% and ranks at a record #11 and Haval (+837.5%) repeats at an all time high #14.

Over in the models charts, the Toyota Hilux (-15.3%) reclaims the top spot for the first time since last April, unsettling the Toyota Yaris (-2.1%) which however remains #1 year-to-date. The Peugeot 208 (-10.9%) struggles YoY but is back up five spots on last month to #3 ahead of the Ford Ranger (+3.8%) and Fiat Cronos (-26%). This means the entire Top 5 underperforms. The Ford Territory (+102.5%) continues to shine at #6 and 3.5% share vs. #13 and 2.3% year-to-date. Excellent showing also for the Chevrolet Tracker (+72.5%) at #8. The new VW Tera breaks into the Top 10 at #10 for its 4th month in market.Β

Previous month: Argentina September 2025: Strongest market in 8 years, Toyota Yaris #1 YTD, Ford Territory #5

One year ago: Argentina October 2024: Toyota Hilux (+23.9%) win for 6th straight month

Croatia October 2025: Citroen (+416.1%), Opel (+107.7%) highlight record market

5 November 2025 at 04:41

Citroen sales are up 5-fold year-on-year in October.

The Croatian new car market soars 18.3% year-on-year in October to 5,158 units. This is a particularly good result given October 2024 was already up 18.3% (yes) over the year prior. The year-to-date tally is now up 8.5% to 60,896. According to our records, this is the highest ever volume in the country after 10 months. The Top 3 brands outpace the market. Volkswagen (+64.5%) scores its first win since last May and reaches 16% share, the carmaker’s highest since June 2023. It however remains #2 year-to-date below Skoda (+31.4%) down to #2 for the month. Opel (+107.7%) continues to surge at #3 with YTD sales up 55.6%. Toyota (+2.1%), Suzuki (+6.6%) and Renault (+8.2%) are a lot more discreet while Dacia (-29.2%), Audi (-5.5%) and Hyundai (-4.2%) actually drop. Citroen (+416.1%) is up 5-fold to close the Top 10 with 3.1% share vs. 2.2% so far this year.

Model-wise, the Skoda Octavia (+4.8%) remains in the pole position but is relatively weak year-on-year. In fact the podium is unchanged on last month with VW T-Cross (+21.1%) at #2 and the Opel Mokka (+496.8%) surging at #3. The VW T-Roc (+267.6%) takes off thanks to promotions on the outgoing generation while the Skoda Kamiq (+61%) is up four spots on last month to #5. The MG ZS (+375%), Skoda Scala (+221.9%) and Opel Corsa (+33.3%) also impress in the remainder of the Top 10. First Top 20 finish for the new VW Tayron at #13.

Previous month: Croatia September 2025: Skoda and Octavia on top, Opel Mokka up to #3

One year ago: Croatia October 2024: Market up 18.3%, Geely Coolray up to #7

Belgium October 2025: MG (+506.6%), Hyundai (+121.5%), Dacia (+14.9%) among rare gainers in market off for 19th straight month

4 November 2025 at 09:19

MG sales are up 6-fold year-on-year in Belgium.

It’s a 19th consecutive month of YoY declines (!) for the Belgian new car market at -6.8% to 33,955 units. The year-to-date tally is now off -8.9% to 357,823. Company sales are off -10.3% to 20,726 whereas private sales are stable at -0.8% to 13,229. At least this is the sign of a relatively healthy market. Note BEVs hold a spectacular 36.4% market share in October. BMW (-35.4%) reclaims the brands top spot despite a very steep YoY fall. The carmaker was indeed at historic high levels back in October 2024. Volkswagen (-14.5%) is down to #2 and also falls significantly faster than the market. Dacia (+14.9%) is the only island of growth in the Top 10 just as Volvo (-1.8%), Peugeot (-3.2%) and Renault (-4.1%) contain their fall but Audi (-19.6%), Skoda (-18.2%) and to a lesser extent Toyota (-9.9%) all struggle. Further down, Hyundai (+121.5%) surges at #11, with Citroen (+93.9%), MG (+506.6%), Mini (+65.2%) and BYD (+67.4%) making themselves forced.

Previous month: Belgium September 2025: Volkswagen #1, BMW (-43.6%), Tesla (-49%) struggle

One year ago: Belgium October 2024: BMW (+27.4%) at record heights, Dacia (+28.3%) shines

Finland October 2025: Toyota at highest in almost 2 years, Yaris Cross distant leader

4 November 2025 at 08:43

The Toyota Yaris Cross is the best-selling vehicle in Finland in October.

New car sales in Finland finally seem to be on the mend, with a 4th year-on-year gain in the past 5 moths in October at +4.6% to 6,096. Due to a difficult start of the year, the YTD tally remains in negative for now at -1.8% to 59,006. Toyota (+50.1%) surges to 22% share, its best since January 2024 (23.5%) and to be compared with 16.1% so far this year. Skoda (-13.3%) is back up two spots on last month but struggles YoY due to a particularly strong year-ago result. Volkswagen (+4.7%) matches the market at #3 ahead of Volvo (-11.5%). Renault (+69.3%), Mercedes (+36.8%), BMW (+17.2%) and Ford (+16.8%) also deliver fantastic lifts in the remainder of the Top 10. Just below, BYD (+138.3%) breaks its ranking record for the 2nd month running at #11, also selling more than 100 monthly units for the first time. Dacia (+357.9%), Mini (+190.9%) and Citroen (+100%) also surge further down. Tesla is down -67.6%.

The Toyota Yaris Cross (+100.4%) rallies back up seven spots on last month to #1 and 7.6% share, double its YTD level where it now ranks #1 also. The Toyota Corolla (+9.6%) and Yaris (+85.7%) exchange their ranking vs. last month to #2 and #3 respectively. The Volvo XC60 is only up 1% YoY but lodges a strong 3.4% share at #4 vs. 2.6% YTD. The Toyota C-HR (+164.9%) is up 8 ranks to complete the Top 5 ahead of an in form VW ID.4 (+38.2%). The Skoda Elroq (#9) and Kia EV3 (#11) are the most popular recent launches.

Italy October 2025: Toyota Yaris Cross reaches record ranking at #2

4 November 2025 at 07:37

Toyota Yaris Cross sales are up 26.4% in October.

The Italian new car market is back in negative in October at -0.6% to 125,826. The year-to-date tally is now down -2.7% to 1,293,366. This is off 332,000 or -20.4% on pre-pandemic 2019. Once again private sales are weak at -12.2% to 72,494 and 56.9% vs. 64.4% in October 2024 (53.2% vs. 57.7% YTD), whereas self registrations soar 37.7% to 17,520 and 13.7% share vs. 9.9% a year ago (11.7% vs. 11.3% YTD), both signs of an unhealthy market. Long term leases are up 15.5% to 27,132 and 21.3% share vs. 18.3% last year (23.1% vs. 19.8% YTD), short term rentals grow 39% to 2,112 and 1.7% vs. 1.2% and company sales edge up 2.9% to 8,173 and 6.4% share vs. 6.2%.

In terms of power source, petrol sinks -17.6% to 29.122 and 22.9% share vs. 27.5% in October 2024 (25.1% vs. 29.2% YTD), diesel implodes -29.6% to 11,790 and 9.3% share vs. 13.1% last year (9.6% vs. 14% YTD), LPG is up 4.6% to 12,316 and 9.7% share vs. 9.2% a year ago (9.3% vs. 9.4% YTD). HEVs grow 5.6% to 58,038 and 45.5% share vs. 42.8% a year ago (44.7% vs. 39.9% YTD). This includes 17,850 full hybrids (+2.9%) and 40,188 mild hybrids (+6.9%). PHEVs soar 124.9% to 9,833 and 7.7% share vs. 3.4% last year (6.1% vs. 3.3% YTD) and BEVs gain 25% to 6,331 and 5% share vs. 4% a year ago (5.2% vs. 4% YTD). All in all, rechargeable cars are up 71.2% to 16,164 and 12.7% share vs. 7.4% in October 2024 (11.3% vs. 7.3% YTD).

In the brands ranking, Fiat (+26.1%) recovers from a particularly poor year-ago result when it ranked #3 with 7.3% share. It is now at 9.2% vs. 9.6% through October. Toyota (+0.8%) also defies the negative market to lift to 8.5% share in 2nd place. Leader a year ago, Volkswagen (-10.6%) drops to #3 ahead of Dacia (-1.8%), BMW (-2.6%) – ranking at a record #5 for the 4th month running – and Renault (-14.9%), all in difficulty. Audi (+1.1%) edges up at #7 whereas Peugeot (-23.2%) and Jeep (-22.1%) struggle and Mercedes (-4.9%) disappoints. Citroen (+50.3%), MG (+12.8%) and Skoda (+8.8%) shine below. Notice also Omoda+Jaecoo up 280.7%, BYD up 262.7% and Tesla down -47.1%.

Over in the models charts, the Fiat Panda (+6.2%) edges up but stays well below its YTD level at 5.9% share vs. of 6.9% through October. The Toyota Yaris Cross (+26.4%) cracks the podium for the 2nd time ever and breaks its ranking record to #2 (previous bestΒ #3 in March 2023). The Jeep Avenger (-11.7%) and Dacia Sandero (-18.6%) are both in pain but still manage solid shares at 3.2% both vs. 3.3% YTD. The Citroen C3 (+44.5%) is back up to #5, followed by the VW T-Roc (+35%) and Dacia Duster (+19.5%) both in excellent shape. The MG ZS is up 23.4% to return inside the Top 10 at #10. After cracking the Top 10 for the first time last month at #8, the Fiat Grande Panda seems to have peaked already, back down to #16 for the month. It however breaks into the YTD Top 50 at #46. It’s a first Top 50 finish for the Opel Frontera, surging directly to #34.

A sign of a healthy market, private sales lead the charge at +23.9% to 51,359 units and 53.1% share vs. 49.6% a year ago, company sales are up 10.2% to 39,860 and short term rental sales drop -5.2% to 5,566. Looking at sales by region, Comunidad Valencia (+38.1%) continues to benefit from replacement cars in the wake of the storm, with Castilla la Mancha (+54.7%),an Cantabria (+54.1%) and Andalucia (+21.6%) also very dynamic. Madrid is up 16.2% to 38.6% share.

Β As for the brands ranking, Toyota (-17.4%) remains in the lead despite an atrocious YoY evolution, distancing Renault (+18.3%) up to 7.3% share. The Top 4 is unchanged on last month with Volkswagen (+12.4%) and Dacia (+32.5%) in tow. Dacia advances to #5 year-to-date, passing Hyundai (-7.9%). Peugeot (+37%) lodges the biggest YoY gain in the Top 10, with BMW (+22.2%) also beating the market at #10. BYD (+251.2%) breaks its monthly volume record for 2nd month in a row and climbs to a best-ever #14, also reached last August. Newcomer Ebro, assembling and selling rebadged Chery cars, steps into the Top 20 for the second time at #20. Meanwhile Chery-owned Jaecoo (+211.2%) and Omoda (+50.4%) shine below. Tesla is off -30.6%.

France October 2025: Renault 5 smashes share record, BEVs at 24.4% share

3 November 2025 at 08:21

The Renault 5 holds a record 3.3% share at home in October.

The French new car market is up for the third month in a row in October but still very shy at +2.9% to 139,513. Note October 2024 was down -11.1% on the year prior. For reference, we are down -26.2% on pre-pandemic October 2019. The launch of the β€œsocial leasing” operation, offering extra-low monthly long term leases payments for lower income customers buying BEV models, hasn’t yet boosted the overall market but definitely lifted BEV sales as we’ll see further down. The year-to-date tally remains in negative territory at -5.4% to 1,326,302 and off -27.5% on 2019. Petrol sales freefall -26.5% to 26,742 and 19.2% share vs. 26.9% a year ago, diesel falls -33.7% to 5,807 and 4.2% share vs. 6.5% in October 2024 and PHEVs drop -14.4% to 9,323 and 6.7% share vs. 8% last year. In contrast HEVs are up 7.5% to 58,897 and 42.2% share vs. 40.4% and BEVs surge 63.2% to 34,109 and 24.4% share vs. 15.4% a year ago. Additionally, LPGs are up 15.1% to 4,353. Year-to-date, BEVs are now up 5.2% to 250,731 and 18.9% share vs. 17% over the same period in 2024.

The Renault Symbioz outsells the Captur for the third time.

Renault (+17%) lodges a splendid result, lifted by a couple of recent launches as we’ll see further down. It reaches 17.8% share vs. 17.4% so far this year, which is a great performance for the carmaker, usually weaker as quarters start. Peugeot (-3.5%) and Dacia (-6.4%) disappoint while Citroen (+27.6%) soars on a particularly weak year-ago result when it freefell -35.8% on the year prior. In fact, at 7.2% it equals its YTD share. Volkswagen (-8.2%) struggles at #5, but not as much as Toyota (-23.5%) coming back from a record year-ago score when it held 9% of the market. Skoda (+3.1%) steps up one spot on last month to reach an all time high 7th place. Its distances BMW (-19.4%), Audi (+19.8%) and Hyundai (+5.4%) enjoying varying fortunes. MG is estimated to grow 90.1% to #13, with Mini (+60.4%), Nissan (+33.4%), Cupra (+25.1%) and Opel (+14.9%) also shining below. BYD is estimated to lift 123.7% to #24.

First Top 30 finish for the Renault 4.

Over in the models charts, for once the Peugeot 208 (+1.2%) is the best-seller, and this for the first time since exactly one year ago in October 2024. The Renault Clio (+0.8%) is beaten but remains the year-to-date lease by over 20,000 sales. The Dacia Sandero (-16.8%) is in difficulty but holds onto the third place, only 60 units above a euphoric Peugeot 2008 (+65.2%). The Citroen C3 (+47.5%) is strong at #5 but the performance of the month is without a doubt delivered by the Renault 5, up 482% on year-ago launch results and smashing its record share at 3.3% (previous best 2.5% from last November to January). It also equals its best ever ranking at #6. This performance can be attributed to the launch of a basic variant called Five at 24,990€ before subsidies. Below the Toyota Yaris (-14%) at #7 for the second time in the past three months, another success story is the Renault Symbioz (+87.4%) back inside the Top 10 for the first time since last June and outselling its little brother the Captur (-22.9%), clearly cannibalised. The Citroen C3 Aircross II is up to a record #12 and the Tesla Model Y is up 40.1%. After breaking into the Top 50 for the first time last month, this time the Renault 4 cracks the Top 30 at #29. The Fiat Grande Panda is up three ranks to #41.

Complete brands and models data will be uploaded to this article when made available to us.

BSCB celebrates 15 years

30 October 2025 at 07:03

15 years ago on October 30, 2010, I posted the first article on BSCB, which at the time was about Luxembourg. 113,075 posts later, BSCB celebrates its 15 year anniversary today. What started as a hobby as far back as in 1986, and strengthened into a regular endeavour in the 2000s ended up with the creation of BSCB in 2010. Over the years, thanks to your readership and your subscriptions, the site has managed to thrive all this time. You have visited from literally every country in the world (even North Korea!) and I am so grateful for you all. The coverage of the site has slowly but surely grown to over 80 countries updated monthly or quarterly. I have enjoyed immensely updating the site (almost) every day and I hope you have enjoyed reading it too. I welcome any feedback you have to make the site better in the future.

A big thank you to you all and to the next 15 years!
