World Cup 2026: Full group schedule and top third-round matches to watch

After 48 matches in North America, it’s time for the final round of games in the group stage at World Cup 2026.

Sixteen teams will be eliminated after these fixtures, with 32 nations heading through to the knockout stages.

The top two teams from each of the 12 groups – along with the eight best third-placed teams – will proceed to the next phase.

Here are the top five “must-watch” matches in the second round of fixtures from June 24 until June 27.

⚽️ Scotland vs Brazil

Miami Stadium – Wednesday, 6pm (22:00 GMT)

These two sides will meet at the World Cup for the fifth time and there’s plenty to play for in an intriguing encounter in Miami.

Brazil are looking to secure their place in the knockout stages as group winners and are currently tied with Morocco on four points at the top of Group C.

Scotland are aiming to escape the group for the first time at a major international tournament and know that a point will almost certainly guarantee a spot in the round of 32.

Expect Group C to change a lot during these final fixtures, with Morocco taking on Haiti at the same time.

If that isn’t enough, Brazil’s Neymar is also set to make his first appearance at this World Cup.

⚽️ Japan vs Sweden

Dallas Stadium – Thursday, 6pm (23:00 GMT)

It’s difficult to predict which Sweden will turn up in Dallas on Thursday.

Graham Potter’s side beat Tunisia 5-1 in their opening match of the World Cup, before losing by the same score to the Netherlands.

Japan have been entertaining to watch at this tournament and were in fine form during their 4-0 win over Tunisia at the weekend.

Expect plenty of goals in this match and plenty of drama. The winner will secure a top-two finish in Group F, so there is a lot to play for.

Kylian Mbappe

⚽️ Norway vs France

Boston Stadium – Friday, 3pm (19:00 GMT)

Norway and France are already through to the knockout stages, but this game looks set to be a blockbuster affair with both sides looking to top Group I.

Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe have both scored four goals so far and they’ll be desperate to add to their tally as they chase down Lionel Messi.

France are one of the favourites to lift the World Cup next month and are looking to end the group stage with three wins from three.

But Norway have the opportunity to prove that they truly are dark horses in this tournament and can compete with elite international sides.

Buckle in for a big one in Boston.

⚽️ Uruguay vs Spain

Seattle Stadium – Friday, 6pm (00:00 GMT on Saturday)

Group H has been a tight affair following some surprise results in the opening round of fixtures.

Uruguay drew with Saudi Arabia, while Cape Verde shocked the world with a goalless draw against Spain.

La Roja bounced back by thrashing Saudi Arabia and they go into their final game as group leaders, with Uruguay two points behind in second.

Spain will secure top spot with a win in Seattle, ensuring that they avoid Argentina in the round of 32.

⚽️ Egypt vs Iran

Seattle Stadium – Friday, 8pm (04:00 GMT on Saturday)

Neither of these sides have ever made it out of the group at a World Cup, but on Friday, at least one of them will achieve that feat.

Group G is closely bunched after a number of drawn matches and it sets things up nicely for an intriguing final round of fixtures.

Victory for either Egypt or Iran will guarantee them a spot in the knockout phase, so expect both sides to be up for this one.

Iran have faced numerous challenges at this World Cup, with restrictions on travel and visa issues before the tournament even began.

If Iran progress, there’s also still a chance that they will face the US in the knockout stages.

Europe May 2026: BEVs up 39.1%, Chinese up 105.3%, Dacia Sandero now best-seller YTD

24 June 2026 at 08:56

BYD sales are up 141.4% across Europe, the brand outsells Ford for the first time.

According to Dataforce, the European new car market (EU+EFTA+UK) edges up 3.4% year-on-year in May to 1,130,916 units, leading to a year-to-date tally up 4.4% after 5 months to 5,818,184. ACEA has the market up 3.6% to 1,152,523 for the month and up 4.5% to 5,824,814 year-to-date. Once again Chinese manufacturers deliver the performance of the month, doubling their share YoY with sales up 105.3% to 111,636 and 9.9% share vs. 5% a year ago in May 2025. As a reminder, in May 2025 these carmakers were already up 111% on the year prior so we are really witnessing a long term surge. Among the Top 5 markets, Italy performs best at +7.6%, followed by the UK at +7.1% and France at +3.7%. Germany (+0.1%) is stable as is Spain (-0.8%). Looking at all countries, Malta (+52.7%) is the best performer, followed by Ireland (+38.1%), Estonia (+33.5%) and Slovenia (+20.2%). At the other end of the stick we have Iceland (-27.3%), Latvia (-6.5%) and Slovakia (-6.3%).

In May BEVs continue to gain significant ground at +39.1% year-on-year to 268,487 and 23.3% share vs. 17.4% a year ago. Meanwhile PHEVs command 10.7% of the market vs. 9.8% in May 2025 thanks to sales up 13.2% to 123,339. Year-to-date, BEVs are up 31.2% to 1,247,545 and 21.4% share vs. 17.1% over the first 5 months of 2025. In terms of BEV volume, Germany dominates at 59,969 (+39.3%), followed by the UK at 43,931 (+34.2%), France at 37,412 (+92.7%), Norway at 15,210 (+13.6%), Denmark at 15,020 (+37.3%) and Italy at 13,274 (+86.5%). As for BEV market share, unsurprisingly Norway is the champion at 97.8%, ahead of Denmark (78.7%), Iceland (51%), Finland (48.8%), the Netherlands (41.3%), Sweden (41.2%), Belgium (37.4%) and Malta (36.4%). France is at 29.1%, the UK at 27.3%, Germany at 25%, Spain at 10.8% and Italy at 8.8%. Having not yet warmed to the charms of BEVs are Croatia (3.4%), Poland (4.1%), Estonia (5.1%), Latvia (5.2%) and Greece (5.9%).

The Dacia Sandero returns to the YTD pole position.

In the OEM ranking, the VW Group (-2.5%) slides slightly to just under 300,000 units. It is followed by Stellantis (-2.2%) performing similarly and Renault Group (-0.5%), stable. The BMW Group (+4.3%) is the only gainer in the Top 7, accessing to #4 vs. #5 year-to-date. Hyundai-Kia (-10.3%) suffers at #5, as the Toyota Group (-1.7%) and Mercedes (-4.6%) disappoint. In contrast the Geely Group is up 7.9% to #8 while BYD (+141.4%) spectacularly breaks into the Top 10 for the first time at #9. Chery (+243.2%), Tesla (+99.2%) and SAIC Motor (+15.2%) also shine below.

Looking at brands, the Top 4 are all in negative. Volkswagen (-3.7%) endures the largest loss, with Skoda (-0.9%), Toyota (-1%) and BMW (-1.6%) also down but containing their fall. Notably Skoda affirms its newfound ranking at #2 above Toyota, a position it has now held for the past 4 consecutive months. Renault (+0.6%) is stable while Audi (+4%) outpaces the overall market – just. The rest of the Top 11 falls, with Hyundai (-19.3%) and Peugeot (-12%) hit the hardest, Mercedes (-4.6%) and Dacia (-3%) disappointing and Kia (-0.8%) stable. Opel (+5.1%) is encouraging but the biggest lifts are below. BYD (+141.4%) shoots up to a record 13th place and 2.8% of the market. It is now the best-selling Chinese carmaker in the region, outselling MG (+15.3%) for the first time. BYD also overtakes Ford (-27.1%) for the first time and Citroen (-1.7%) for the 2nd time after last December.

The Tesla Model Y is up 68.2% to third place.

Model-wise, the Dacia Sandero (+0.8%) repeats at #1 for a clear win almost 2,300 sales more than any other nameplate in the region. As always its market mix is relatively balanced across Southern Europe, with 30% of its May volume coming from France, 22% from Italy and 16% from Spain. By the same token, the Sandero also reclaims the lead year-to-date, a ranking it also held over the Full Year 2025. Down to #2 year-to-date is the Renault Clio (-30.6%) down to #8 for the month due to a mediocre result at home in France which accounts for 36% of its May sales. In 2nd place this month is the VW T-Roc (-5.7%) with 37% from Germany. The Tesla Model Y (+68.2%) surges to third place and is strong in most markets, 23% coming from France, 18% from Norway and 14% from Germany. The VW Golf (+6%) is solid at #4 with 42% coming from home in Germany.

Mbappe: “Diqqətim Messidə deyil”

23 June 2026 at 19:50

Fransa millisinin futbolçusu Kilian Mbappe açıqlama verib.

Futbolpress.az “Le Parisien” nəşrinə istinadən xəbər verir ki, fransalı hücumçu argentinalı futbolçu Lionel Messi ilə qol yarışında olmadığını deyib:

“Messi qollar vurur və həmişə də vuracaq. Onun etdiklərinə baxsaq, daha çox şey etməliyəm. Diqqətim Messidə deyil. Fikrim özümdə və komandamdadır. Millidə faydalı olmaq üçün əlimdən gələni edirəm”.

Mbappe dünya çempionatlarının əsas mərhələsində 16 qol vurub. O, daha iki qol vuracağı halda, bu göstəricidə rekordçu olan Lionel Messiyə çatacaq.

Mbappe Klozeyə çatdı: “Messinin rekordlarına fikir vermirəm”

23 June 2026 at 13:00

O, bunu həmişə edib və etməyə davam edəcək. Əgər diqqətimi Leonun nə etdiyinə yönəltsəm, daha da çox çalışmalı olacağam. Mən ümumiyyətlə onun nə etdiyinə fikir vermirəm. Mən yalnız komandama kömək etməyi düşünürəm”.

Qeyd edək ki, Kilian 2024-cü ildən Madrid “Real”ının formasını geyinir. O, Fransa millisinin tarixində 60 qolla ən məhsuldar futbolçu hesab olunur. Ulduz hücumçu 2018-ci ildə Fransa yığmasının heyətində dünya çempionu olub, 2022-ci il mundialında isə gümüş medal qazanıb.

Mükafat Mbappenin oldu

23 June 2026 at 07:37

Digər qolu isə Osman Dembele vurub.

Mbappe leads France to win over Iraq in lightning-delayed World Cup game

Kylian Mbappe scored his second brace ‌of the tournament, and France eased to a 3-0 victory over Iraq in the first match of this World Cup beset by a lengthy weather stoppage.

Mbappe’s goals came nearly three hours apart after thunderstorms in the region on Monday delayed the second-half kickoff by a shade under two hours.

They take him to 16 all-time World Cup tallies, pulling him level with former record-holder Miroslav Klose. Earlier on Monday, Lionel Messi set a new benchmark of 18 career World Cup goals with his brace in Argentina’s 2-0 victory over Austria.

Mbappe’s four goals also place him one behind Messi in the 2026 Golden Boot race.

Reigning Ballon d’Or winner Ousmane Dembele also scored after half-time for two-time champions France (2-0-0, 6 points), who are all but assured of progressing.

Their last-32 place will become official if Norway ‌win or draw against Senegal in the other Group I fixture. That match, staged about two hours away by car in northern New Jersey, kicked off near-simultaneously with the start of the long-awaited second half at Philadelphia Stadium.

Iraq (0-2-0, 0 points) remain alive for one of the eight knockout spots allotted for third-place teams.

They will probably need a win in their group finale against Senegal and help elsewhere. And they could be without Aymen Hussein, who scored their only goal this tournament in their opener, but exited on Monday in the 26th minute with an apparent injury.

France dominated the early stages, and Mbappe capitalised in the 14th minute.

On an innocent-looking sequence on the right, Mbappe received Michael Olise’s pass, took one touch to his left and, with Iraqi defenders affording him space, unfurled a powerful strike from the edge of the penalty area that sailed beyond Ahmed Basil’s dive.

The delay could have served as a recovery period for Iraq, who spent most of the match chasing the ball. Instead, they gifted France and Mbappe a second on a dreadful mistake from a goal kick.

Dembele was the provider for Mbappe’s tap-in. He scored 12 minutes later, after controlling Olise’s incisive pass into the 18-yard box and finishing low past Basil.

With the outcome never in doubt, ‌the weather provided the drama.

After referee Drew Fischer blew his half-time whistle as storms were already beginning, the skies opened further, and spectators were told to seek shelter in the stadium concourses.

Players finally ‌re-emerged ‌for warm-ups about 1 hour and 40 minutes later, and even then, the restart was delayed further as stadium personnel used squeegees to shuttle standing water off the east side of the pitch.

“Bekhem bu barədə mənimlə dəfələrlə danışıb” – Mbappe

22 June 2026 at 13:52

Fransa millisinin və “Real”ın futbolçusu Kilian Mbappe gələcəkdə MLS-də oynamaq ehtimalından danışıb.

Futbolpress.az xəbər verir ki, hücumçu bu barədə insayder Fabrizio Romanonun sorğusuna cavab olaraq deyib:

“Bir gün MLS-də oynamaq? Bilmirəm, Devid Bekhem bu barədə mənimlə dəfələrlə danışıb. ABŞ-ni bəyənirəm, burda möhtəşəm ambisiyalar var. Ancaq hələ Avropadayam. Gələcəkdə necə olacağını görəcəyik”.

Mbappenin “Real”la müqaviləsi 2029-cu ilin yayına kimidir. 27 yaşlı hücumçu hazırda Fransa yığması ilə ABŞ, Kanada və Meksikanın ev sahibliyi etdiyi dünya çempionatında mübarizə aparır.

Undav injury-time goal sees Germany beat Ivory Coast to top World Cup group

Deniz Undav scored two goals off the bench as Germany pulled off a thrilling comeback to beat Ivory Coast 2-1 in their World Cup Group E match, securing their place in the knockout stage for the first time since they won the title in 2014.

After having two goals disallowed in the first half on Saturday, Germany did not lose focus and used intricate passing to find their way, while the West Africans produced their dynamic brand of attacking football in a wild Group E clash.

Undav levelled the score with a controlled, volleyed finish in the 68th minute and struck again when he received a pass on the turn, before swivelling and firing home a ball that Yahia ‌Fofana had no chance at stopping.

The versatile striker now has nine goals in his last eight matches.

Simon Adingra had a late chance for Ivory Coast, but he failed to get a shot off in the area before Germany charged back down the field and Fofana blocked a low shot from Nathaniel Brown.

Ivory Coast had opened the scoring in the first half when Franck Kessie slotted home a rebound off a shot by Amad Diallo on a play created when Yan Diomande charged down the left side and sent in a cross.

With more than 100,000 people of German ancestry living in Toronto, Julian Nagelsmann’s men enjoyed plenty of support but were a frustrated group at the interval with nothing to show for their eight attempts on goal.

Germany looked to have opened the scoring when midfielder Aleksandar Pavlovic rose to meet a short corner in the 25th minute but was deemed to have fouled Fofana in the process.

The ruling left Pavlovic with his hands atop his head in disbelief while Fofana received some attention after the collision, and the partisan German crowd made their disdain for the referee’s decision known.

Shortly after, it was Ivory Coast who finally broke through with Kessie’s goal. The West Africans have scored in their last seven matches at the tournament – the longest such sequence on the global stage in their history.

Germany once again put the ball in the back of the ‌net, but their celebrations were cut short as the referee determined that Jamal Musiala had fouled Odilon Kossounou in the buildup.

Germany top Group E with six points and are through to the last 32, while Ivory Coast remain ‌on three after two matches. Ecuador and Curacao meet in Kansas City later on Saturday.

Germany will close out the group stage against Ecuador on Thursday in New Jersey, while Ivory Coast face Curacao in Philadelphia.

Heavy metal: French town hosts medieval combat cage fights

The duels took place inside the hexagonal cage of a modern mixed martial arts arena (Valentine CHAPUIS)

A French town on Saturday hosted a special event inside a hexagonal cage normally used for mixed martial arts: duels between fully armoured warriors wielding medieval weapons.

Fighters used swords and axes to battle it out in 20 combats at Onet-le-Chateau in the Aveyron region of southern France.

The local council described the fights as the modern-day equivalent of "what was effectively the mixed martial arts of the Middle Ages".

While most of the action involved men from France, Poland and Britain, some women fighters were also on the bill.

The fights were held in a local club that organises this kind of armoured combat, known as behourd.

Organisers say it includes not just weapons combat but wrestling, ground work and strikes with the fists, feet, elbows, knees, the head and the shield.

"The word 'behourd' comes from Old French," said Clement Carsac, president of the local club.

"It was a recreational activity practised by men in the Middle Ages, It’s where history and combat sports meet."

The fights were preceded by weighing-in sessions, because behourd is divided into weight classes, like boxing or judo.

The combatants then put on their armour and helmet, which can weigh up to six kilos (13 pounds).

It is a rather expensive activity: "A full kit costs between 3,000 and 4,000 euros," said to Carsac -- $3,450 to $4,600.

Sun shines on jockey Lee at Royal Ascot

Clifford Lee crowned an extraordinary comeback from a serious motorbike accident to ride Venetian Sun to victory in the Commonwealth Cup (Henry Nicholls)

Last October jockey Clifford Lee came within a "millimetre" of dying when he broke a vertebra in a motorbike crash -- on Friday he rode Venetian Sun to victory in the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot.

The 30-year-old Englishman was out of action for five-and-a-half months after the accident with the surgeon saying "he was within less than a millimetre of killing himself".

Lee gave Venetian Sun a fine ride in the Group One race, a year to the day that the filly owned by Premier League side Brighton's owner Tony Bloom won the Albany Stakes at the meeting.

"It is fantastic," said Lee.

"I had five and a half months off as I broke my C1, but I feel I have come back stronger and better.

"It helps riding good horses.

"It was very hard as it took me a long time to actually get back fit.

"It is great to be back."

Aidan O'Brien was to win the other Group One race on the card, racking up Royal Ascot win number 101, as his star filly Precise made it six wins from eight races in the Group One Coronation Stakes.

For jockey Ryan Moore it was his 97th Royal Ascot triumph.

As for O'Brien it was doubly pleasurable as he bred the winner -- and also a perfect day for the horse's part owner Michael Tabor to make his first appearance of the week.

"I have been nursing a heavy cold from the Derby and at my age it takes longer to get over it," said Tabor.

"There is one happy breeder but he is very shy," joked Tabor as O'Brien stood beside him.

- 'Here baby' -

O'Brien as ever had been very reluctant to talk himself up after he brought up the 100 on Thursday, paying tribute to the team.

"Aidan is very much his own man and as he says quite rightly it is a team game," said Tabor.

"Like in business if you do not have the right people round you it falls flat but he has a great team, he is good at delegating and he is the leader of that team."

O'Brien moved to six winners for the week when Causeway won the King Edward VII Stakes.

He will, though, face a battle royal with his eldest son Joseph on the final day as to who emerges as leading trainer for the week.

Joseph moved on to five when the 33-year-old's Green Carrera won the Sandringham Stakes.

Jockey Billy Loughnane and trainer George Boughey will hope Libertango goes on to repeat Venetian Sun's success as they teamed up to win the Albany Stakes.

Loughnane, 20, came from the clouds weaving his way through the 25 runner field to overhaul favourite Sun Goddess and record the fifth Royal Ascot winner of his career.

Boughey, who teamed up with the man he calls his "younger brother" Loughnane to win the feature race on Tuesday the St James's Palace Stakes, admitted it had not been "pretty" to watch.

He was, though, delighted Turkish owner Ibrahim Araci's determination to buy the horse in April had been rewarded so quickly.

"He was pretty bold, Mr Araci -– he wanted to get the horse and he had to pay for it (£400,000, $530,000)," said Boughey.

Three years ago William Haggas trained a winner for Britain's King Charles III at the meeting, however, on Friday he denied the monarch his first victory of the week.

James McDonald on the Haggas-trained Opportunity -- owned by the Emir of Qatar's Wathnan Racing -- seized his and ran down the King's Warrant Holder to win the Duke of Edinburgh Stakes.

"The King and Queen will have more chances,  probably more than I will," said crack New Zealand jockey James McDonald.

"I am here baby and enjoying it," added the 34-year-old.

Germany and Ivory Coast aim to seal World Cup knockout place: All to know

Who: Germany vs Ivory Coast
WhatFIFA World Cup 2026 Group E match

One of the most mouthwatering matches in the second round of games in the World Cup 2026 group stage sees four-time champions Germany facing a talented Ivory Coast outfit in Toronto on Saturday evening.

Both sides made a winning start to their Group E campaign, in very different ways, as Die Mannschaft overcame an early scare against Curacao to romp to a 7-1 win, while The Elephants eventually pipped Ecuador 1-0 with a last-gasp goal, after the South Americans had hit the woodwork three times.

Germany under the radar?

After disappointing group-stage exits in 2018 and 2022, Germany came into this tournament somewhat under the radar, with the perennial powerhouse ranked only seventh-favourites to lift their fifth World Cup.

While they turned on the style thanks to young stars like Jamal Musiala and Florian Wirtz to pile on the goals against Curacao – the smallest nation by size and population ever to have taken part in a World Cup – and the goals have flowed in 10 straight wins, this will be a far stiffer test.

Curacao caused the German defence a few problems, especially in the opening half-hour, and it’s their pivotal central-defensive pairing of Jonathan Tah and Nico Schlotterbeck, playing in front of 40-year-old keeper Manuel Neuer, that will ultimately decide how deep the Germans can go in this tournament.

Dynamic Arsenal attacking midfielder Kai Havertz continued his recent goalscoring run for club and country with a double for Germany in the opening game, but he will likely find the Ivory Coast defence a harder challenge than that posed by Curacao’s backline.

By winning their group opener, Germany did what they couldn’t in 2018 and 2022 and appear certain to progress to a first knockout match since the 2014 World Cup Final. Whether they advance as group winners, or limp through in the minor places, might well come down to the result in Toronto.

A win against Ivory Coast would secure direct top-two qualification to the Round of 32 and would likely be enough to top Group E should Ecuador fail to beat Curacao four hours later in Kansas City.

In an alternate scenario, even with a German victory against Ivory Coast, Ecuador – if they can beat both Curacao and then the Germans in Thursday’s group finale – would make things very interesting, with the potential for three teams – Germany, Ivory Coast and Ecuador – to be locked on six points and tiebreakers needed to separate them.

It matters because the team finishing first will play a third-placed qualifier, while the runner-up will face the team finishing second in the group featuring France, Norway, Senegal and Iraq, and the team qualifying third would face a group winner, potentially England or Mexico.

Pivotal match as Ivory Coast seek history

The Elephants might have ridden their luck, but ending Ecuador’s 19-match unbeaten streak across nearly two years in their opening game caught the eye of their fan base and will have raised expectations.

Amad Diallo’s last-minute winner ensured Ivory Coast have now won a game at all four World Cups for which they have qualified, and they can reach the knockout stages for the first time, if they defeat Germany.

In fact, they can seal top spot in Group E should they beat Die Mannschaft and Ecuador fail to beat Curacao in the other group game later on Saturday evening.

A draw against Germany would make for an intriguing group finale on Thursday night, as it would likely leave all three teams in with a chance of finishing first going into the final game, with Ivory Coast potentially needing to beat Curacao by more than six goals to ensure supremacy on goal difference.

How does the group stage work?

Germany, Ivory Coast, Ecuador and Curacao are in Group E.

They will play each other once in the initial stage of the tournament. The top two teams from each of the 12 groups – along with the eight best third-placed teams – will proceed to the next phase, the round of 32, which has been introduced at the World Cup for the first time.

Head-to-head

This will be just the second meeting between Germany and Ivory Coast.

The previous game was a friendly in November 2009, which saw Lukas Podolski score twice, including a last-gasp equaliser in a 2-2 draw.

Form guide:

(Last five games, latest match first)

Germany: W-W-W-W-W

Ivory Coast: W-W-W-W-L

Germany’s thumping win over Curacao last Sunday means they have won 10 straight games going back to September 2025 and have scored two or more goals in nine of those matches.

They have, however, struggled at the opposite end of the pitch, conceding goals in seven straight World Cup matches, their longest run since 1970, and their last clean sheet came in the 2014 final against Argentina in Brazil.

Ivory Coast go in search of a fifth straight victory, and confidence is high after both the Ecuador triumph last Sunday, which followed their 2-1 win against world number-three France in their final warm-up game in Paris on June 4.

Their last defeat came in the AFCON quarterfinal against Egypt in January.

Team news: Germany

Coach Julian Nagelsmann might well keep faith with the same XI that eventually put Curacao to the sword, but if he does, it might be tough on Deniz Undav.

The Stuttgart forward came off the bench to replace Jamal Musiala with 26 minutes to go and scored and provided two assists as Germany picked up their biggest win since the 2014 semifinal against Brazil. The versatile Undav has scored seven times and added four assists in just 10 appearances for Die Mannschaft.

Team news: Ivory Coast

Ivory Coast coach Emerse Fae likely has more decisions to make.

Elye Wahi started the win over Ecuador up front before being replaced just before the hour by Ange-Yoan Bonny.

He was initially denied entry into Canada for this match due to visa complications. He was linked to a sports betting scandal while playing for Nice in Ligue 1 last month, but has since been authorised to travel and could yet be involved.

Bonny and unused subs from the first game, Oumar Diakite and Evann Guessand, are alternative options in attack.

Diallo came off the bench to win it, and the Manchester United attacking midfielder will be pushing to start, which might mean a switch of flanks for teenage starlet Yan Diomande, who stole the show on the right against Ecuador and will be eager to put on a show against the nation in which he plays for RB Leipzig.

Germany predicted XI:

Neuer (goalkeeper); Kimmich, Tah, Schlotterbeck, Brown; Pavlovic, Nmecha; Sane, Musiala, Wirtz; Havertz.

Ivory Coast predicted XI:

Y. Fofana (goalkeeper); Doue, Singo, Agbadou, Konan; Diallo, Kessie, S. Fofana, Diomande; Bonny, Toure.

Kilian Mbappe Fransa millisinin ən yaxşı bombardiri oldu!

17 June 2026 at 09:00

Fransa millisinin hücumçusu Kilian Mbappe futbol üzrə dünya çempionatlarında vurduğu qolların sayına görə bir neçə rekorda imza atıb.

Arena.az xəbər verir ki, o, buna DÇ-2026-nın qrup mərhələsinin ilk turunda qarşılaşdıqları Seneqal yığması ilə oyunda dubla imza atmaqla nail olub.

27 yaşlı forvard komandasının 3:1 hesablı qələbəsində əsas pay sahibi olub. Mbappe bu qollarla mundiallardakı qol sayını 14-ə çatdırıb. O bununla braziliyalı Peleni (12 qol), argentinalı Lionel Messini (13 qol) və həmyerlisi Jüst Fonteni (13 qol) geridə qoyaraq almaniyalı Gerd Müllerin göstəricisini təkrarlayıb. Siyahıda yalnız braziliyalı Ronaldo (15 qol) və almaniyalı Miroslav Kloze (16 qol) ondan öndə qərarlaşıb.

Bununla yanaşı, hücumçu Fransa millisi tarixinin ən yaxşı bombardiri adına da sahib çıxıb. Mbappe milli komandada keçirdiyi 99-cu oyunda 58-ci qolunu vuraraq 57 qola malik Olivye Jirunun rekordunu yeniləyib.

Xatırladaq ki, Kilian Mbappe 2024-cü ildən İspaniya nəhəngi “Real”ın formasını geyinir. Hücumçu ötən mövsüm 44 oyunda 42 qol və 7 məhsuldar ötürmə ilə yadda qalıb. O, Fransa millisinin heyətində 2018-ci ildə dünya çempionu olub, 2022-ci il mundialında isə gümüş medal qazanıb.

France Player Ratings vs Senegal: Mbappe shines with 9/10 in World Cup 2026 opener

17 June 2026 at 01:30

France have started their FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign with a convincing 3-1 win over Senegal.

Kylian Mbappé scored twice to hand his team a delightful start to the tournament, and they will be hoping to build on this and go all the way this time around.

France looked quite cagey in the first half and struggled to cope with Senegal’s pace and directness in transition. However, they gained control in the second half and completely outplayed their opposition.

France won the World Cup in 2018 and finished as runners-up in 2022. Didier Deschamps has a lot to be positive about after what he has seen from his team tonight, and he will certainly hope they can go all the way.

Here at CaughtOffside, we look at how the French players fared in a tricky game against Senegal.

— Equipe de France ⭐⭐ (@equipedefrance) June 16, 2026

Mike Maignan – 6/10

The goalkeeper had relatively little to do for large parts of the contest, but he should have done a lot better about Senegal’s late goal. His distribution was tidy, and he looked composed whenever called into action.

Jules Koundé – 6.5/10

Koundé provided energy down the right flank and was generally reliable defensively. He had a few difficult moments against Senegal’s pace but recovered well and helped France maintain their shape during a challenging first half.

Dayot Upamecano – 7/10

The Bayern Munich defender looked solid throughout. He looked dominant in aerial situations but was occasionally exposed when Senegal attacked with speed. Improved significantly after the break as France gained control.

William Saliba – 6.5/10

Saliba’s composure on the ball helped France play out from the back under pressure. Although Senegal’s attackers caused problems at times, the Arsenal defender remained calm and delivered a solid if unspectacular performance.

Theo Hernández – 6.5/10

One of France’s most adventurous defenders, Hernández constantly looked to push forward and stretch the Senegal backline. Defensively, he was tested on occasion but contributed positively in possession.

Aurélien Tchouaméni – 7/10

France struggled to establish control early on, but Tchouaméni grew into the match. His ball-winning ability and positional discipline became increasingly important as Senegal began to tire, allowing France to dictate the tempo.

Adrien Rabiot – 6.5/10

Rabiot worked hard in midfield and helped France regain authority after a difficult opening period. While he was not particularly influential in the final third, his experience and physical presence proved valuable. Also created the second goal of the game for Bradley Barcola.

Michael Olise – 8.5/10

The creative heartbeat of the French attack. Olise’s vision and passing repeatedly opened up Senegal’s defence, and his assist for Kylian Mbappé’s opener was a moment of genuine quality. Whenever France threatened, he was usually involved.

Ousmane Dembélé – 7/10

Dembélé remained a constant threat with his pace and direct running. His final ball was inconsistent at times, but he stretched Senegal’s defence and created space for his teammates throughout the game.

Desire Doue – 6/10

Worked hard and helped France maintain attacking pressure. However, that final bit of quality was lacking and he never really threatened Senegal with his flair or goalscoring ability.

Kylian Mbappé – 9/10

Kylian Mbappé has 14 goals in World Cup games.

Only Miroslav Klose (16) and Ronaldo (15) have scored more in the history of the competition. pic.twitter.com/fJQP4EX5wj

— Opta Analyst (@OptaAnalyst) June 16, 2026

The difference-maker. Mbappé was relatively quiet at times during the match but once again demonstrated why he is one of the world’s elite players. Two clinical goals settled the contest and ensured France began their World Cup campaign with maximum points.

Substitutes

Bradley Barcola – 8/10

Barcola CLUTCH 🇫🇷💥 pic.twitter.com/JMpx4GjEAd

— Ligue 1 English (@Ligue1_ENG) June 16, 2026

Barcola brought energy, urgency and cutting edge to France’s attack. His goal effectively killed off Senegal’s hopes of a comeback and capped an excellent display. The young winger made a huge impact whenever he got on the ball.

Rayan Cherki – 6.5/10

Added fresh legs in midfield and helped France see out the match comfortably. Looked lively after his introduction, but did not have enough time to make a major impact on the contest.

World Cup Golden Boot contenders – Can Kane see off Mbappe for the top scorer prize?

16 June 2026 at 11:57

The World Cup 2026 has officially kicked off now, and soon we’ll see some of the top Golden Boot contenders like Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappe in action.

Mbappe won the top scorer prize at the 2022 World Cup, scoring eight times, including a hat-trick in France’s final defeat to Argentina.

Four years before that, Kane was the winner as he scored six goals, but could we still see veterans like Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi in contention?

See below for a list of the top ten contenders for the World Cup Golden Boot as the bookies have picked the most likely candidates, with some money to be made if you use a Fanduel promo code

Kylian Mbappe – 6/1

Mbappe had another prolific season with Real Madrid, even if his goals didn’t help his club to glory. Playing alongside such a world class pool of talents in this France squad, though, it’s hard not to see Mbappe getting a very good opportunity to both win the World Cup and the Golden Boot this summer.

DOWNLOAD THE OFFICIAL CAUGHTOFFSIDE APP FOR ALL THE LATEST & BREAKING UPDATES – STRAIGHT TO YOUR PHONE! ON APPLE & GOOGLE PLAY

Harry Kane – 7/1

A lethal striker showing no sign of slowing down with age, Kane is probably England’s most important player, so seems a decent shout for the Golden Boot, even if Thomas Tuchel’s squad as a whole is arguably not looking quite as strong as recent tournaments.

Mikel Oyarzabal – 10/1

Not the biggest name or best striker on this list, but Mikel Oyarzabal has shown he can do the job up front for Spain, who will be seen as another of the favourites to win the tournament this summer.

Erling Haaland 16/1

Norway will be an interesting dark horse to watch this summer, precisely because of the threat of Erling Haaland up front. The Manchester City striker had a prolific qualifying campaign, scoring a remarkable 16 goals, and finding the back of the net in every game on their way to the World Cup. Surely decent odds for the Golden Boot?

Lionel Messi – 16/1

Not the goal machine he once was, but underestimate Lionel Messi at your peril.

Cristiano Ronaldo – 20/1

Now 41 years of age, Cristiano Ronaldo will be like a man possessed at what will surely be his last chance to win the World Cup, so could that see him really step up and scoop the top scorer prize?

Julian Alvarez – 20/1

Aside from Messi, Julian Alvarez could be the main goal threat to watch out for in this Argentina squad after two prolific seasons with Atletico Madrid.

Kai Havertz – 22/1

Not exactly an out-and-out striker, but Kai Havertz is Mr Reliable for both Arsenal and Germany, plus he missed so much of the season just gone due to injury that he’s actually had more rest than most of the other players at this tournament.

Want more CaughtOffside coverage? Add us as a preferred source on Google to your favourites list for news you can trust

Lamine Yamal – 25/1

The undisputed gem in this Spain side, could we about to see Lamine Yamal enjoy a memorable first World Cup? He’s more of a creator than a goal-scorer, but these look like tempting odds.

Raphinha – 28/1

Finally, one of the most prolific goal-scoring wingers in the game right now, Raphinha will surely be one to watch if Brazil have a good tournament.
