ATLANTA (AP) — Arthur Blank has added Mauricio Culebro as president of soccer for the MLS Atlanta United team and Blank's NWSL team which will debut in 2028.

Culebro has served as president of Tigres UANL, overseeing sporting and business operations for the men's and women's programs in Mexico for the past five years. He also has served as chief operating officer of the Mexican Football Operation.

In his new role with the Blank Family of Businesses, Culebro will report to AMBSE CEO Rich McKay.

“This is an exciting day as we welcome Mauricio to Atlanta and our family of businesses,” Blank said in a statement released by AMBSE. “As we progressed through the search process, Mauricio’s impressive experience and clear vision to elevate our clubs made him an outstanding fit to lead Atlanta United and NWSL Atlanta 2028.”

Blank acknowledged Culebro will be new to MLS and the NWSL, but added “Mauricio is not new to building and operating successful global soccer clubs, and I am fully confident in his ability to help return Atlanta United to the level our fans deserve, while leading the launch of our NWSL club.”

In his role with the Mexican Football Federation, Culebro led Mexico’s planning for multiple host cities for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

“It is an honor to join AMBSE’s highly successful leadership team and become part of an organization with such a strong culture and foundation already in place,” Culebro said. “I am excited to put my experience, passion and commitment at the service of Atlanta United and NWSL Atlanta 2028, working alongside a great team to build long-term projects our fans can feel proud of — teams that truly represent the passion, energy and ambition of this city.”

Atlanta United chief soccer officer and sporting director Chris Henderson, senior vice president of strategy Dimitrios Efstathiou and senior vice president, chief business officer Sarah Kate Noftsinger will remain in their roles and report to Culebro.

BLACKBURN, England (AP) — A man who posted racially abusive online messages about England Women soccer player Jess Carter received a suspended jail sentence on Wednesday.

Nigel Dewale, a 60-year-old man from Great Harwood in Lancashire, northern England, sent two posts from his TikTok account during last year's Women's European Championship.

He sent them in response to a news article about police investigating online racial abuse received by Carter earlier in the tournament following England’s matches against France and Sweden.

The messages were later traced to Dewale, who was arrested and charged.

He was sentenced at Blackburn Magistrates’ Court to six weeks in custody, suspended for 12 months, having previously pleaded guilty to sending a grossly offensive message via a public communications network.

The 28-year-old Carter plays her club soccer for Gotham FC in the United States. She stopped using social media following the racist abuse and has spoken out about the stereotypes facing Black women in Britain.

PHOENIX (AP) — Nikola Jokic had 23 points, 17 rebounds and tied a season high with 17 assists to lead the Denver Nuggets over the Phoenix Suns 125-123 on Tuesday night.

Jokic made the go-ahead basket, knocking down a 12-foot jumper with 11.5 seconds left. Phoenix's Devin Booker got a good look at a potential winning 3-pointer, but it bounced off the rim.

The Suns trailed 117-109 with 3:19 left, but methodically worked their way back. Booker made a tough jumper in the lane to tie the game at 123 with 30.2 seconds remaining. He had 22 points and eight assists.

Jokic had his NBA-leading 29th triple-double of the season by early in the third quarter. The three-time MVP shot 9 of 16 from the field and delivered several pinpoint passes, including one that went the full length of the court for a layup by Christian Braun.

The Nuggets have fought injuries for most of the season, but are now close to full strength. Jamal Murray had 21 points and Tim Hardaway Jr. added 18 off the bench.

Denver had a 10-point lead at halftime, but Jordan Goodwin and Grayson Allen made back-to-back 3s late in the third to help Phoenix cut the deficit to 97-95 heading into the fourth. Allen and Jalen Green both had 21 points.

CALGARY, Alberta (AP) — Yegor Sharangovich scored in the fourth round of the shootout to lead the Calgary Flames to a 3-2 victory over the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday night.

Olli Maatta and Zayne Parekh, each with their first goals of the season, scored in regulation time for the Flames, who have won four games in a row for the first time this season. Dustin Wolf stopped 23 shots.

Quinton Byfield scored both goals and Darcy Kuemper made 21 saves for Los Angeles, which has points in seven of their last nine but just three victories. They have dropped four straight.

With the loss the Kings fall three points behind the Nashville Predators for the final wild-card berth in the Western Conference.

Calgary tied the game 1-1 at 14:50 of the second period when Ryan Strome and Victor Olofsson combined to set up Maatta as the three veterans the Flames added at the trade deadline combined to get Calgary on the scoreboard.

Olofsson was part of the Nazem Kadri deal with Colorado. Maatta came over from Utah in the MacKenzie Weegar trade. Strome was picked up from Anaheim for a seventh-round pick to replace Kadri at center.

Maatta has one goal and five assists in 10 games with Calgary after recording just a single assist in 22 games with the Mammoth.

Byfield’s second of the night 17 seconds into the third period restored the Kings’ lead, but Parekh tied it with a power-play goal at 13:02.

After Morgan Frost and Artemi Panarin exchanged goals in the first three rounds of the shootout, Sharangovich’s winner came when he mishandled the puck but it slipped through Kuemper’s pads.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — The Memphis Grizzlies ruled out Ja Morant for the season because of a UCL sprain in his left elbow.

The Grizzlies said Tuesday night that Morant would need a platelet-rich plasma injection to aid with the healing. The Grizzlies expected Morant to make a full recovery in time for next season.

Morant, the 6-foot-2 guard in his seventh season out of Murray State, played in only 20 games this season for the Grizzlies. He averaged 19.5 points, the lowest since his second season in the league. The early end to the 26-year-old's season continues a trend for the oft-injured guard. He has played in only 79 games the last three seasons.

Morant sprained his elbow in late January after he had just missed two weeks because of calf soreness.

Taken second in the 2019 draft behind Zion Williamson, Morant was a nightly highlight film early in his career with the Grizzlies.

Morant challenged some of the NBA’s tallest centers with dunks at the rim and avoided defenders with whirling gyrations. His passes found cracks in defenses, and he regularly chased down blocks where he pinned the ball at the top of the square on the backboard.

Those high-flying, highlight-yielding plays earned him Rookie of the Year in 2020 and Most Improved Player in 2022.

Off-court troubles and growing behavior issues started surfacing in 2023 and diminished his impact on the court for the Grizzlies. Video in March 2023 of Morant flashing a gun at a Denver-area nightclub led to an eight-game suspension by the NBA even though no criminal charges were filed.

Months later, Morant was seen on a livestream flashing a gun, this time from the passenger seat of a car. After the league investigation, Silver announced that Morant would start the 2023-24 season with a 25-game suspension.

NEW YORK (AP) — Jalen Brunson scored 32 points, including 15 in the fourth quarter, and the New York Knicks beat the New Orleans Pelicans 121-116 on Tuesday night for their seventh straight victory.

Karl-Anthony Towns and OG Anunoby each added 21 points for the Knicks (48-25), who pulled within percentage points of the Boston Celtics (47-24) for second place in the Eastern Conference. Towns also grabbed 14 rebounds.

But it was Brunson who made the difference for the Knicks in a game that was close throughout the second half. He scored 10 straight points for New York midway through the fourth quarter, including back-to-back baskets after the Pelicans had cut it to 109-107 with 4 1/2 minutes remaining.

Zion Williamson scored 22 points and Jeremiah Fears had 21 for the Pelicans, who have lost two in a row after a three-game winning streak.

HORNETS 134, KNGS 90

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Coby White made six of Charlotte’s franchise-tying 26 3-pointers and finished with 27 points as it routed Sacramento for its fourth straight win.

LaMelo Ball had 20 points on six 3s and Moussa Diabate added 17 points and 11 rebounds for the Hornets (38-34), who pulled within two games of the Atlanta Hawks for sixth place in the Eastern Conference.

Daeqwon Plowden had 22 points and ex-Hornet Malik Monk had a career-high 14 assists for the Kings (19-54).

Kon Knueppel added four 3s for the Hornets as the rookie from Duke moved into second place in franchise history for 3s made in a season with 247. He needs 14 to pass Kemba Walker, now a player enhancement coach with the Hornets.

The 26 3-pointers matched the franchise record set on March 14, 2025, at San Antonio.

Charlotte raced to a 72-47 lead at halftime, shooting 13 of 29 from beyond the arc with Ball and White leading the way with four each at the midway point.

Charlotte pushed its lead to 46 early in the fourth quarter.

CAVALIERS 136, MAGIC 131

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Jimmy Snuggerud and Otto Stenberg scored, Joel Hofer made 22 saves and the St. Louis Blues beat the Washington Capitals 3-0 on Tuesday night.

Jordan Kyrou scored his team-leading 17th goal into an empty net with 41 seconds remaining to seal the win for Hofer, who earned his sixth shutout of the season and the eighth of his career.

St. Louis, which has won two in a row, has gone 9-2-2 since returning from the Olympic break.

Logan Thompson made 24 saves for Washington, which had not lost in regulation in its previous five games.

Stenberg scored his second goal of the season with 5:08 remaining in the third period when he buried a feed from Dalibor Dvorsky at point-blank range to put St. Louis ahead 2-0.

Capitals center Pierre-Luc Dubois received a match penalty for attempting to injure Blues center Robert Thomas 8:25 into the third period. DuBois tackled Thomas to the ice in the Capitals’ zone after Thomas had interfered with him. Thomas appeared to hit his head on the ice as he was tackled and skated off slowly with minimal assistance. He did not return to the game.

Snuggerud scored his 16th goal of the season 2:39 into the second period to give St. Louis a 1-0 lead.

DALLAS (AP) — Jack Hughes scored twice in New Jersey's four-goal first period, and the Devils handed Dallas consecutive losses in regulation for the first time in two months, beating the Stars 6-4 on Tuesday night.

Jesper Bratt and Connor Brown also had goals as the Devils put four of their first five shots past Jake Oettinger to end the Dallas goalie's career-best point streak at 14 games. Oettinger was pulled after the first period.

Wyatt Johnston had two goals to reach 40 for the first time in his career, and Jason Robertson scored his 39th for Dallas, which hadn't lost two in a row in regulation since dropping three straight from Jan. 13-18.

Johnston's second goal was his NHL-leading 24th on the power play, extending his franchise record set two nights earlier in a 3-2 loss to Vegas.

Playing for the first time since clinching a Western Conference playoff spot, the Stars lost to an East also-ran and fell seven points behind NHL-leading Colorado, their Central Division rival.

Hughes beat Oettinger one-on-one for both his goals, the latter when Luke Hughes connected with him on a two-line pass for a breakaway and a 4-1 lead 17:19 into the first.

Hughes has eight goals in eight games after going without one in his first five games following the gold medal-winning goal for Team USA against Canada in the Milan Cortina Olympics.

Johnston tied his career high with his 38th assist when Robertson got Dallas within a goal midway through the second period.

New Jersey's Timo Meier and Mavrik Bourque of Dallas traded third-period goals before an empty-netter from Dougie Hamilton.

Casey DeSmith replaced Oettinger and gave the Stars a chance late by stopping the first 12 shots he faced. Jake Allen had 23 saves for the Devils.

MESA, Ariz. (AP) — New York Yankees ace Gerrit Cole allowed an Alex Bregman homer and struck out three over 1 2/3 innings Tuesday in his second spring training outing after Tommy John surgery, an 8-3 win over the Chicago Cubs in their exhibition finale.

The 2023 AL Cy Young Award winner threw 26 pitches, 17 for strikes. Bregman's homer on a 1-0 sinker at the bottom of strike zone, was the only hit allowed by the 35-year-old right-hander.

Cole averaged 96.2 mph with 15 fastballs, down slightly from a 97.1 mph average for 10 fastballs in his first exhibition appearance, a scoreless inning against Boston on March 18.

Cole had Tommy John surgery on March 11 last year with Los Angeles Dodgers team physician Dr. Neal ElAttrache.

His last official outing was in Game 5 of the 2024 World Series that Oct. 30. The six-time All-Star pitched in two spring training games in 2025, on Feb. 28 and March 6.

Cole threw his first bullpen of spring training on Feb. 13 and faced hitters for the first time seven days later.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone projects Cole to make his season debut in late May or early June.

Cole’s 2024 season debut was delayed until June 19 because of nerve irritation and edema in his right elbow. He went 8-5 with a 3.41 ERA in 17 starts for New York and was 1-0 with a 2.17 ERA in five postseason starts.

Cole is signed to a $324 million, nine-year contract through 2028. He has a 153-80 career record and 3.18 ERA over 317 starts with Pittsburgh (2013-17), Houston (2018-19) and the Yankees (starting in 2020).

Mar. 24—BEMIDJI — Spectating the Craig Haugen relays at Bemidji State's Gillett Wellness Center, three Bemidji High School students approached boys track and field head coach Steve Sneide.

The students had been taking in the Lumberjacks' first meet of the season on Tuesday, but what they were watching got them inspired. They asked Sneide if there was still time to join the team.

"I was like, 'Yeah (of course),'" Sneide said. "So they came to watch and they want to be a part of this. It's kind of fun. We're building something that everybody wants to be a part of, which is cool to see."

Track has become one of the hottest sports to join at BHS in recent years. In 2025, the Lumberjacks recruited over 50 freshmen to join the track and field team. This year's class almost equaled that number, with around 48 freshmen joining.

No one could be happier about it than Sneide and girls head coach Brian Berntsen, who have worked hard to build a welcoming culture focused on personal improvement.

"We even tell these kids, you don't have to be the best track athlete on this team, but it's going to help you maybe become the best soccer player on the team, or the best football player, the best basketball player," Sneide said. "This will translate into your other sports."

With a large number of underclassmen, senior leadership is all the more important. Two important ones are Liv Thompson and Tanner Johnson.

Thompson has been pointed to as a leader for the girls team well before her senior year. Her welcoming personality and her experience at state —

including last year in the 1600-meter race

— make her an easy senior to look up to.

Johnson also has state experience for the boys squad and has been a good leader for the distance crew. But he's a valued person to look up to in the classroom as well, especially after he was the first BHS student to receive

the Triple 'A' Award over the winter,

which recognizes a student's excellence in academics, arts and athletics.

"They're very quality kids," Sneide said of Thompson and Johnson. "They work hard, and that's the thing. Nobody will outwork them.

"But not just that. They're very nice, kind kids who look out for the young kids, and that's how we build a program with those upperclassmen of just constantly helping the young kids, and we develop as a team then."

The Lumberjacks are in one of the toughest sections in the state — Section 8-3A. It features some heavy-hitters like St. Michael-Albertville, Moorhead and Buffalo, with Alexandria joining the fray this year.

Last year, eight out of nine 8-3A girls qualified for state in the 100-meter race based on their respective times alone. The 8-3A boys went 9-for-9.

Does the level of competition help elevate some of the Jacks?

"They kind of have to, subconsciously," Berntsen said. "But sometimes the problem is that they're so good, you have to get over that mental hurdle. So stop focusing on what they're doing and focus on what you are doing, and you get better for you."

Five Lumberjacks claimed first-place finishes in Tuesday's indoor meet.

Senior Taylen Schermerhorn set a personal best in the boys 60 meter with a time of 7.15. Sophomore William Ames took first in the 1600-meter race (4.54.18), while sophomore Blake DeWitt did the same in the 3200-meter (10:58.79). Deven Bentler finished right behind in second at 11:24.08.

Senior Jayden Bondy placed first in the long jump (20-07.25) and second in the triple jump (39-05.75), right behind fellow senior Rhys Sneide, who claimed first (39-07).

Sneide, along with Shermerhorn, Nelson and Noah Wilson, placed first in both the 1600 sprint medley (3:47.71) and the 4x200 relay (1:36.68).

Two other relay teams took first. Ames, Kyle Millar, Caleb Knott and Sean Ryan Aylesworth finished the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:48.72, while DeWitt, Mac Buchan, Kyle Millar and Zaden Graf completed the 4x800 relay in 9:13.34.

Sophomore Chloe Derby had the best girls finish on the track, finishing third in the 1600 (5:48.40). Kendel Barry also had a third-place finish in the high jump (4-08).

TAMPA (AP) — Kristy Curry was named the new women's basketball coach at South Florida on Tuesday.

Curry had been head coach at Alabama for the past 13 seasons, leading the Crimson Tide to the NCAA tournament in five of the last six seasons.

She's taking over for Michele Woods-Baxter, who was USF's interim coach last season and led the team to a 20-12 record, 13-5 in the American Conference. Jose Fernandez, who spent the past 25 seasons coaching women's hoops at USF, was hired to coach the WNBA's Dallas Wings in October.

Curry's Alabama teams posted 20-win seasons in each of the last five years. The Crimson Tide went 24-11 this past season and made the tournament as the No. 6 seed, falling to No. 3 seed Louisville in the second round.

Curry will be leading her fourth program after previous stops at Purdue (1999-2006), Texas Tech (2006-13) and Alabama (2013-26). She led each team to the NCAA tournament and helped Purdue to the national championship in 2001.

CHICAGO (AP) — Pete Crow-Armstrong has agreed to a $115 million, six-year contract with the Chicago Cubs, according to a person familiar with the deal, establishing the All-Star center fielder as one of the franchise's core players.

The person spoke to the AP on Tuesday on condition of anonymity because the agreement had not been announced.

The contract starts in 2027. There are escalators that could increase the value to as much as $133 million, and it also includes an assignment bonus if Crow-Armstrong is traded. It's the biggest contract ever with no club options for a player with five years of financial control left at the time of signing.

Crow-Armstrong, who turns 24 on Wednesday, is coming off a breakout performance. He hit .247 with 31 homers, 95 RBIs and 35 steals last season, helping the Cubs earn an NL wild card for the team's first playoff appearance since 2020.

Crow-Armstrong also covers a ton of ground in the outfield for one of baseball's best defensive teams. The Southern California native won his first Gold Glove last year.

Crow-Armstrong was selected by the New York Mets in the first round of the 2020 amateur draft. He was traded to the Cubs in the Javier Báez deal in July 2021.

He made his major league debut in 2023, going 0 for 14 in 13 games. He had a rough June in his second season before finding his form. He batted .289 with seven homers and 30 RBIs in his last 57 games in 2024.

Crow-Armstrong put together a fast start last year, hearing chants of “M-V-P!” at Wrigley Field while hitting .272 with 21 homers and 61 RBIs in his first 80 games. But he faded down the stretch, batting just .192 and striking out 33 times in his last 35 games in the regular season.

Making his first appearance in the playoffs, he hit .185 (5 for 27) in eight games as the Cubs advanced to the second round before they were eliminated by the Milwaukee Brewers in an NL Division Series.

“I think it’s a season that you would kind of expect from Pete. That’s Pete,” manager Craig Counsell said during the winter meetings in December. "It’s like we saw some incredible things. We saw some stretches where he was an out at the plate. I think his defense was incredibly consistent and brilliant throughout the season.

“And I think really the goal is to just -- it’s just to keep improving. ... That’s what I’d want from Pete. And as long as that quest never burns out and you keep that alive, he’s going to get to better places and great places.”

Crow-Armstrong's preparation for this season including playing for Team USA during the World Baseball Classic. He is hitting .100 (2 for 20) in eight spring training games with the Cubs.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — In a roundabout way, Woody Hayes could be responsible for Arthur Smith being the new offensive coordinator at Ohio State.

The legendary former head coach of the Buckeyes died in 1987, but his name is on the football facility in Columbus, and one of his sayings — “You win with people” — remains a mantra for the program.

The 43-year-old Smith grew up in Tennessee, played offensive line at North Carolina and has never worked in the state of Ohio since joining the coaching ranks in 2006.

However, he encountered many former Buckeyes during his various jobs, including coaching players such as Will Howard, Justin Fields and Jack Sawyer in Pittsburgh and Zach Harrison and Jeff Okudah in Atlanta, plus working for Mike Vrabel, who is a member of the school’s athletics hall of fame.

So when Ohio State head coach Ryan Day called in January to speak to him about joining his staff in Columbus, Smith felt he had to listen.

“Most importantly was the respect I have for coach Day,” Smith said Tuesday in his first meeting with reporters since joining Day’s staff. “He reached out, we had a good conversation, and I came down here and spent some time with him and just kind of weighed my options.”

Ultimately he concluded, “It just made sense" to become the Buckeyes' OC.

Smith worked for Vrabel with the Tennessee Titans from 2018-20, including two years as offensive coordinator.

After three years as head coach of the Atlanta Falcons, he spent the last two seasons as offensive coordinator of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Mike Tomlin’s decision to step down from being head coach of the Steelers left Smith in limbo while Day was in search of a new offensive coordinator following the departure of Brian Hartline to be the head coach at South Florida.

Now Day and Smith are joined in an effort to fix up an offense that was efficient last season but rarely resembled the high-scoring units Day has been known for overseeing since he came to Columbus, first as offensive coordinator in 2017 and then as full-time head coach since 2019.

The Buckeyes averaged 33.4 points per game (21st in the nation), but they managed only 10 in a three-point loss to Indiana in the Big Ten championship game and were largely stymied again in a 24-14 loss to Miami (Fla.) in a College Football Playoff quarterfinal at the Cotton Bowl.

The unit was almost entirely new, including quarterback Julian Sayin, who was a Heisman Trophy finalist as a redshirt freshman.

He is back along with four starters on the line and All-American wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, two players Arthur Smith is not surprisingly excited to work with.

“A guy like Julian, there’s a lot he can handle, and I think he’s very mature, very intelligent,” Arthur Smith said. “So it’s been fun to work with him.”

How the attack evolves remains to be seen, but the expectation is Arthur Smith will be able to refine some of the things the Buckeyes were trying to do last season with multiple-tight-end sets after years of operating primarily out of the shotgun and 11 personnel (three receivers, one running back, one tight end).

The running game could use a boost after producing just 154.4 yards per game (72nd nationally) last season.

That is considered a strength of Smith's.

“You’re constantly looking at yourself and trying to evolve,” he said. “Things we did well in Tennessee night not fit this group and other places I’ve been. I think you want to have packages coming in so it doesn’t become obvious when you’re in this formation it’s this. You’ve gotta have counter punches, and that’s the game plan. It may change week to week what you like. You like this personnel and this formation and this package; then you’d have counter punches off it.”

MILWAUKEE (AP) — The Milwaukee Brewers boosted their bullpen depth Tuesday by acquiring right-handed pitcher Jake Woodford from the Tampa Bay Rays for minor league right-hander K.C. Hunt.

Milwaukee made room for Woodford on its 40-man roster by transferring outfielder Akil Baddoo to the 60-day injured list.

Woodford, 29, spent last season with the Arizona Diamondbacks and went 0-4 with a 6.44 ERA in 22 relief appearances. He struck out 23 batters in 36 1/3 innings.

He owns a 10-17 career record with a 5.10 ERA in 111 appearances, including 25 starts. The 2015 first-round draft pick pitched for St. Louis from 2020-23 and split the 2024 season between the Chicago White Sox and Pittsburgh Pirates.

“He’s pitched in a number of different roles,” Brewers president of baseball operations Matt Arnold said. “He’s been a veteran in the league for a while, a guy we faced obviously with St. Louis, so we have some history with him. He’s an interesting arm that can play a valuable role in a number of different spots in our bullpen or potentially even at the front of games.”

Arnold said he wasn’t sure whether Woodford would arrive in time to join the Brewers for their season opener Thursday against the White Sox.

Woodford had been with Tampa Bay as a non-roster invitee this spring. He posted a 1.23 ERA while working 7 1/3 innings in four Grapefruit League appearances.

His ability to pitch multiple innings appealed to the Brewers.

“Just at a point where we wanted to add some depth, and he’s right-handed,” Arnold said. “I think we’re obviously a little more skewed to the left-hand side. So I feel he’s a really good fit for us.”

Hunt, 25, went 7-9 with a 4.45 ERA in 26 starts last season for Biloxi, the Brewers’ Double-A affiliate. He struck out 122 and walked 43 in 121 1/3 innings.

Baddoo, 27, signed with the Brewers in December. The former Detroit Tigers outfielder has been dealing with a quad strain that is expected to keep him out until June.

Arkansas freshmen Darius Acuff Jr. and Meleek Thomas were plotting their on-court relationship in chats while they were still recruits.

“We talked about it in high school when we first committed and like I said, it don’t just take a game, it takes practice, workouts, just it takes a lot of communication, I would say, and we have that,” Acuff said.

Acuff, an AP first-team All-American, scored 36 points in the Razorbacks' 94-88 second-round victory over High Point on Saturday night. Thomas scored 19.

“It takes a lot of communication, a lot of togetherness, like Darius said,” Thomas said. “We spoke about that before the season and when you’re genuinely happy for your teammate, you’re genuinely happy for your brother, then you really get excited and you get enjoyment out of seeing him dominate and do well. So like when he’s on, it’s like, ‘Yeah, keep doing you.’”

The duo stands out in a season of fantastic freshmen, including Duke's Cameron Boozer and BYU's AJ Dybantsa. Together, Acuff (23.3) and Thomas (15.6) combine for an average of nearly 40 points per game.

“And you know what’s great? They’re playing off of one another,” Arkansas coach John Calipari said. “All they have done is helped each other. People are like, `How are you going to get these two to play together?' They’re both good young people with good hearts and they care about each other.”

Acuff, the Southeastern Conference player of the year, holds Arkansas single-season records with 817 points and 229 assists, eclipsing the previous marks during March Madness. His 36 points against High Point were the most ever for a Razorback during the tournament.

Acuff's combined 60 points in the first two tournament games are the most scored by a freshman in the opening rounds, passing the record of 57 reached by Cam Thomas at LSU, Zion Williamson at Duke and Kevin Durant at Texas.

The 6-foot-3 Acuff is considered among the top picks in the NBA draft, should he choose to go pro. Known for his strength and a focused determination on the court, he had 30 points and 11 assists in the SEC title game victory over Vanderbilt.

“Always wanted to be the big moment. Always just thinking win,” he said. “Like whatever I got to do to win that’s what I’m going to do.”

Thomas gives balance to the Razorbacks' backcourt, often knocking down the key shot. Against High Point he hit a long 3-pointer with 6:11 left in the game as Arkansas started to shift the momentum.

“I’m trying to get Meleek Thomas to catch and shoot it. Quit bouncing it and side stepping, just shoot. So the last one he just caught and shot. He’s one of the best scorers in the country,” Calipari said after the game.

Against Arizona, the Razorbacks will face another high-scoring freshman duo in Brayden Burries and Koa Peat. Arizona beat No. 9 seed Utah State 78-66 on Sunday to advance.

Arkansas is making its 37th NCAA Tournament appearance. The Razorbacks won the national title in 1994 and were runners-up in 1995. They have been to the Final Four five times, but not since '95.

The program is in its second straight Sweet 16 and fifth in the last six years. It has made it to that round 16 times. Last year's Sweet 16 team fell 85-83 in overtime to Texas Tech.

This season, Arkansas has its supremely confident freshman twosome.

“I don’t care how they’re playing. They both have otherworldly confidence in themselves,” Calipari said. “That’s why I say they could run for president. They’re so confident in themselves, they could do fine.”

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Lavonte David is retiring after playing all 14 seasons of his NFL career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

David made the announcement Tuesday at the team’s practice facility.

“I feel it’s time to move on and find a different path in life, be a dad to that amazing little girl over there,” David said. “Having a girl helped me become a man, helped me understand what’s important in life.”

The 36-year-old linebacker was the heart and soul of Tampa Bay’s defense, helping the Buccaneers win a Super Bowl by dominating Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs 31-9 on Feb. 7, 2021.

David is one of only five players in the past 35 seasons with 40 or more sacks and 35 or more takeaways. Hall of Famers Jason Taylor, Junior Seau, Ray Lewis and Brian Urlacher are the other four.

David finished tied with Hall of Famer Derrick Brooks for the most tackles (1,714) in franchise history, according to team stats. David is the franchise record holder in forced fumbles (33) and fumble recoveries (21), third in games played (215) and games started (215) and fifth in sacks (42 1/2). Additionally, David holds the franchise playoff records for total tackles (79) and solo tackles (57).

“Lavonte’s mark on our franchise could never be overstated,” Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht said. “For the entirety of his 14-year career, Lavonte set the standard for professionalism, leadership and consistency. He embodies everything that it means to be a Tampa Bay Buccaneer and he is undoubtedly one of the best players to ever put on this uniform. His contributions to our franchise, to his teammates and to this community will leave an impact far beyond his playing years.”

A second-round pick out of Nebraska in 2012, David was a first-team All-Pro in 2013 and made the second team in 2016 and 2020. He made the Pro Bowl in 2015 and missed just 14 games in 14 years.

David choked up talking about his parents and the sacrifices they made for him and his siblings, saying his dad would take him to practice on a bicycle because his mom needed the family car for work.

He said he almost quit football when his mother passed away in 2016.

“The day she passed away, I thought I lost it all,” David said. “Luckily, I had friends and family by my side.”

The Buccaneers signed veteran linebackers Alex Anzalone and Christian Rozeboom in free agency, providing depth in advance of David’s departure.

David’s decision marks the end of another era in Tampa Bay. Six-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Mike Evans left the Buccaneers after 12 seasons, signing with the San Francisco 49ers in free agency.

Both David and Evans were fan and coach favorites, team leaders and staples in the community throughout their tenure with the team.

Several of his teammates and members of the organization filled the auditorium for David’s announcement.

“For the past 14 seasons, Lavonte David has personified what it means to be a Tampa Bay Buccaneer. He was a selfless leader both on and off the field, playing with passion and a genuine love for the game. He leaves a legacy as a Super Bowl champion and one of the greatest players in franchise history, setting a standard that will continue to impact our organization for years to come,” The Glazer Family, owners of the Buccaneers, said in a statement. “Today, we celebrate Lavonte’s legendary career as one of the most accomplished players of his era and thank him for the many memorable moments he provided our fans. Beyond the statistics and accolades, he will be remembered throughout Tampa Bay for his humble demeanor and strong commitment to our community. We wish him well on his journey after football and look forward to honoring his Hall of Fame-worthy achievements in the near future.”

NEW YORK (AP) — Anton Frondell was playing in the Swedish hockey league playoffs on Saturday and got the call shortly after his team was eliminated that the Chicago Blackhawks want their top prospect to come to North America.

Not eventually. Now.

“I was shocked,” the 18-year-old Frondell said. “Everything has been going really fast.”

That includes being thrust into the action, making his NHL debut on Tuesday at the New York Islanders on Chicago's top line alongside Connor Bedard and as part of the first power play unit. Nine months after he was taken with the third pick in the draft, Frondell is getting a big role right away.

“It’s great," said Bedard, the face of the franchise. "Just throw him in there and give him the minutes, power play and just have him in the same role he was playing in all year.”

Coach Jeff Blashill wants Frondell, who turns 19 in May, to “capitalize on the confidence he has coming into the league.” That's the thought process behind seeing how Frondell handles hockey in the deep end.

“If I didn’t think he could handle the spots that I’m putting him in, I wouldn’t do it right away because you don’t want to set somebody up for struggles,” Blashill said. “I think he can handle it, and I think he’s prepared at this moment to walk in and be successful in those spots.”

Frondell's first game in the league comes against someone he got to know throughout the pre-draft process: now-Islanders defenseman Matthew Schaefer, who was taken with the first pick and has since shown why.

Schaefer has been a revelation. He is the runaway front-runner to win the Calder Trophy as rookie of the year and the biggest reason New York is in the playoff race.

“It’s really fun to watch what he does,” Bedard said of Schaefer. “For someone to step in like that and do what he’s doing, it’s incredible. ... He’s among elite company of players in the league.”

Bedard and San Jose's Macklin Celebrini, taken with the top pick in 2023 and '24, are already in that company. Michael Misa, who the Sharks drafted between Schaefer and Frondell, is already more than 30 games into his rookie year serving as a complement to Celebrini and co-star Will Smith.

Frondell did not get the full training camp leadup to his debut, though he has a unique advantage from playing in the top league in Sweden, similar to what Auston Matthews did at age 17 in Switzerland a decade ago before Toronto picked him No. 1 in 2016.

“Playing pro hockey, playing men, it’s good — competing, battling,” Frondell said. “Everyone was stronger, I felt like, and it was experienced players who know how to battle in the corners. They know how to use their body. So, sometimes I felt like I got run over a couple times and tried to learn from it. It’s a hard game, hockey. You need to battle, and I like to do that.”

Sacha Boisvert's NHL debut coming soon

Sacha Boisvert, the 18th pick in 2024, is close to following Frondell's tracks into the league. Blashill said Boisvert “will for sure play on this trip.”

The Blackhawks visit the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday night, the Rangers on Friday night and the New Jersey Devils on Sunday night. Because they're out of contention, they can afford to slide Boisvert and Frondell into the lineup, along with other young players seen as part of the organization's future.

“I think part of this is figuring out what we have as we go through it, and then you kind of tweak your, not style, per se, but how you set up your lineup as you go,” Blashill said. "Right now let’s see what each guy kind of brings to the table.”

Another problem is the selfie camera. It is placed under the motherboard and fixed with strong glue. To remove it, a lot of heat is needed. This can damage the camera, which makes repair risky.

HOUSTON (AP) — Scottie Scheffler withdrew from the Houston Open on Tuesday, a tournament that was always questionable for him to play because his wife is expecting their second child.

Scheffler, the No. 1 player in the world, has been runner-up at the Houston Open three times, including the last two years when he made it his final stop before going to the Masters.

He was replaced in the field by Matt Kuchar.

Scheffler's wife gave birth to a son they named Bennett on May 8, 2024, one week before the PGA Championship.

Scheffler, who won the PGA Championship and the British Open last year, began 2026 with a victory in The American Express. His streak of 18 consecutive finishes in the top 10 — which started at the Houston Open last year — ended at the Genesis Invitational with a tie for 12th.

His last tournament was a tie for 22nd in The Players Championship.

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann is moving to Orlando City in Major League Soccer this summer.

The 35-year-old World Cup winner from France signed with Orlando City on Tuesday. The deal lasts from July through the 2027-28 season with an option for an extra year.

Orlando City said Griezmann will join when the MLS secondary transfer window opens in July.

“From my first conversations with the club I could feel a strong ambition and a clear vision for the future, and that really spoke to me," Griezmann said in a statement provided by Orlando City.

He helped France win the 2018 World Cup and retired from internationals in 2024 with 44 goals in 137 caps. He is Atletico’s all-time leading scorer but his minutes have been managed by coach Diego Simeone this season. Even so, Griezmann has 13 goals this campaign in all competitions.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The warning comes from about every coach, every player each March — heck, in any sport as the stakes are raised as the games carry more gravitas — don't look too far ahead.

Worry about the next practice, the next game, not what could happen down the road.

Then there's Dan Hurley.

The two-time national champion UConn coach seems to be reinforcing his classic brash ways by sharing his focus for Friday’s Sweet 16 game in the NCAA Tournament against Michigan State with the prospects of an Elite Eight matchup against St. John's.

Just like any East Coast fan or gambler who filled out a bracket this season, Hurley can't help but follow the lines in the East Regional and see what a Huskies' win against Tom Izzo's team could get them — a rematch in Washington with two-time reigning Big East season and tournament champions, St. John's.

Coach Rick Pitino has the tougher task between Hurley and his Big East rivals — at least on paper — in getting the Red Storm past top-seeded Duke.

Hurley, though, has a plea — the fanbases need to rally together for one night and root for their rivals so there is a chance for a fourth game this season between the schools, this time with a spot in the Final Four at stake.

“It will be a live building. It’s probably a little bit early, but obviously, I think we’ve got to support each other,” Hurley said. “It’s pretty brutal on Twitter, I think, and socials between our fan bases, but I think we have to try to come together Friday night against our opponent so we can have a bloodbath on Sunday.”

Hurley noted “it stinks a little bit” that two conference teams are set to potentially play in the regional final rather than in a Final Four.

St. John’s took two of three meetings this season against UConn, the second being a 20-point win in the Big East Tournament title game. The Feb. 25 blowout loss at UConn stands as St. John’s lone setback since standing at 9-5 as of Jan. 3, with the Red Storm beating Northern Iowa and Kansas in the tournament.

UConn started 22-1 but closed the regular season on a 7-4 stretch, a pedestrian record for a program that won consecutive national championships in 2023 and 2024. The Huskies rebounded with wins over Furman and UCLA in first- and second-round games last weekend in Philadelphia to reach their 17th Sweet 16.

(The Huskies beat Michigan State in an exhibition game in late October.)

Maybe it was playing in the East Coast that stirred up questions and comments about a St. John's-UConn showdown before it could even happen. Duke is a comfortable 6 1/2-point favorite to beat fifth-seeded St. John's while the Huskies are just 1 1/2-point favorites to beat Michigan State, per BetMGM Sportsbook.

If both Big East teams win, look out, the home of the Wizards and Capitals could look and sound a bit like Madison Square Garden in conference tourney time.

“I think it speaks to the quality of what us and St. John’s are this year,” Hurley said. “I think they’re a great team. I think we’re a great team. I think it was much needed.”

Winning two games in the NCAA Tournament were much needed for UConn a year after it was bounced by Florida in the second round.

The Gators would win the national championship — yet there's no repeat this season after they were bounced by Iowa.

The Huskies are back in their proper spot among college basketball's hierarchy.

They can thank Tarris Reed Jr. and Alex Karaban for getting the Huskies back to the Sweet 16.

Reed had 31 points and 27 rebounds, the kind of sensational stat line not seen in the NCAA Tournament in nearly 60 years, in the opener against Furman. Karaban scored a career-high 27 points in the second round against UCLA.

Karaban is a fourth-year senior in a career spent all at UConn — a rarity in today's instant transfer, greater riches game — and a third national title would rank him with the players of John Wooden's UCLA heyday in the rarified air of players with three rings.

“I think he can just take us wherever we need to go,” UConn guard Braylon Mullins said. “We all have the confidence with him and he’s our leader. We all look up to him. He holds the standard with this program.”

The Huskies hope they'll be closer to full strength in the Sweet 16.

Silas Demary Jr., a first team All-Big East selection, returned to the lineup against UCLA and played 22 minutes after he sustained an ankle injury in the Big East Tournament. Jaylin Stewart again sat out both tournament games with a knee injury that’s sidelined him since late February.

The deeper the Huskies, the better shot they have at going deep in the tournament — and maybe get that date with Pitino and St. John's.

PARIS (AP) — As the World Cup looms, France star Kylian Mbappé says his left knee that bothered him for weeks is now fine.

The Real Madrid striker was used as a substitute in his team's last two matches as he works his way back into form and has joined his France teammates ahead of a couple of friendlies in the United States this week.

“There was a lot of frustration, a lot of anger, and then also some anxiety at one point,” Mbappé told French media late Monday at a promotional event. “I had reached a stage where I didn’t know what was wrong with me. I didn’t go through that period in the best way. I wasn’t the happiest player in the world. But I’m happy now because it’s truly behind me. It’s all gone.”

Mbappé had been in great form until he sprained his knee at the end of last year. The former Paris Saint-Germain player, who joined Madrid in the summer of 2024, played throughout January but was then sidelined for three-and-a-half weeks before making his latest comeback.

“I wanted to be very cautious so as not to come back too quickly and risk a relapse or pick up another injury elsewhere,” he said. “I wasn’t afraid of reinjuring my knee, but of getting hurt somewhere else, because after four or five weeks without playing, you have to get all the other muscles going again. That’s why I took my time.”

Mbappé also lashed out at the “baseless” information that circulated during his absence.

“A lot of people gave a diagnosis, even though until not very long ago I didn’t have one myself,” he said. “From that point on it was easy to say that everything being said was wrong. I heard a lot of things — surgery, that I might not play again, that I wouldn’t be able to play in the World Cup. It was all completely baseless.”

Mbappé, who has 38 goals in 35 matches this season across competitions, said he was happy Madrid played well in his absence. The club sits in second place in La Liga and goes up against Bayern Munich next month in the Champions League quarterfinals.

He added that he hopes to play with France during the international break as Les Bleus ramp up preparations for the summer World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada.

Although he has yet to win the Champions League, Mbappé has already achieved great success with France, scoring a hat trick in the epic loss to Lionel Messi and Argentina in the 2022 final, and becoming the second teenager after Pelé to score in a World Cup final in 2018.

France plays Brazil on Thursday in Foxborough and Colombia on March 29 in Landover.

This is year six of Samsung partnering with Art Basel. The company has turned this into a very predictable rhythm, and it has gotten pretty good at positioning it as something bigger than just another content drop for The Frame.

This time, Samsung is showing the collection on Micro RGB, OLED, and The Frame Pro displays at a dedicated booth. This is really about demonstrating why you need premium panels to look at art you don’t actually own.

The Art Basel Hong Kong 2026 Collection features 25 artworks from 20 emerging and established artists represented by eight prestigious galleries: Bank, CLC Gallery Venture, Don Gallery, Tomio Koyama, Pearl Lam, Lin & Lin, Rossi & Rossi, and Vacancy.

The carefully curated collection reflects the cultural dynamism and diverse viewpoints that define Hong Kong’s contemporary art scene. Highlights include:

Chinese artistic heritage and innovation are represented through works by 11 Chinese artists spanning six decades of contemporary practice.

Michael Najjar, “Europa” (2016). Najjar is a German painter and trained astronaut who is scheduled to participate in an upcoming spaceflight aboard Virgin Galactic’s VSS Unity.

Sun Yitian, “Ken” (2023). Yitian’s work has been featured in major international collections, including a collaboration with Nicolas Ghesquière for Louis Vuitton’s Pre-Fall 2024 collection.

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) — Kawhi Leonard scored 28 points in 25 minutes and the Los Angeles Clippers pummeled the Milwaukee Bucks 129-96 on Monday night.

Brook Lopez added 19 points, Darius Garland had 15 points and six assists, and the Clippers won consecutive games following four straight losses. They made all 18 of their free throws and got back to .500 with 10 games remaining in the regular season after having a 6-21 record on Dec. 18.

Gary Trent Jr. paced the Bucks with 20 points off the bench. Ryan Rollins led their starters with 13, and Milwaukee had five players in double figures. The Bucks have lost 10 of their past 14 games, including three of four since sitting superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo because of a left knee injury.

The Clippers dominated the 3-point line at both ends of the court, making 17 of 38 shots from long range (45%) while frustrating the Bucks before they used a meaningless fourth-quarter flurry to finish at 39% (16 for 41). That included Los Angeles sinking 11 of 22 attempts in the first half, including a 7-for-12 stretch to help fuel a 43-point second quarter.

The onslaught continued into the second half as the Clippers went up by 46. Even the 7-foot-1 Lopez got in on the fun, shooting 4 of 5 on 3s in the third quarter.

Leonard, who sat out the entire fourth period, shook off a sluggish start to go 8 for 18 from the field and make nine foul shots. He had 16 points in the second quarter.

In his 14th NBA season, Leonard is averaging a career-high 28.3 points per game, helping push the Clippers back to an all-but-certain spot in the play-in tournament following their miserable start.

DALLAS (AP) — Moses Moody scored 23 points before crumpling to the floor with an apparently serious left knee injury late in overtime as the Golden State Warriors beat Dallas 137-131 on Monday night, extending the Mavericks' home losing streak to 12 games, their longest in 32 years.

Moody had just stolen the ball from Mavericks rookie standout Cooper Flagg near midcourt and was all alone at the basket when his left leg buckled as he went up for the shot.

He lost the ball and went to the floor holding his knee, the clock finally stopping with 58 seconds remaining in the extra period after play continued on Dallas' offensive end.

After the whistle, Warriors coach Steve Kerr put his hands to his face as the Mavericks’ home arena went silent. Players and medical staff surrounded Moody, who stayed down for several minutes before being taken off on a stretcher. Kerr said Moody was getting X-rays at the arena.

“We don’t know what it is, but it sure looked bad,” Kerr said.

Moody was playing for the first time after missing 10 games with a sprained right wrist. He was one of eight scorers in double figures for the Warriors, with Kristaps Porzingis scoring 23 points while Brandin Podziemski had 20 points and 10 rebounds.

Golden State, which is solidly in the play-in tournament in the Western Conference with 10 games remaining in the regular season, stopped a three-game losing streak with just its second victory in the past 10 games.

Flagg had 30 points and nine assists but also finished with seven turnovers, including three during an 11-0 Golden State run that broke a tie at the start the fourth quarter. Daniel Gafford scored 20.

There was only one more point scored after Moody's injury as both teams struggled to continue what had been an intense game. Golden State erased a 15-point deficit from late in the first half and the Mavericks clawed back after the Warriors' run to start the fourth.

The Mavericks lost a second consecutive OT game and dropped to 4-23 since a four-game win streak, their longest in a lost season.

Dallas is on its longest skid at the 25-year old American Airlines Center. The Mavs had home losing streaks of 19 and 12 games during the 1993-94 season at since-demolished Reunion Arena.

Gary Payton II made all eight of his shots and finished with 17 points for the Warriors, and Gui Santos scored 11 of his 16 points in the fourth quarter and overtime.

MIAMI (AP) — Victor Wembanyama is making it clear: He wants to win the NBA's MVP award this season.

The San Antonio star — moments after his team officially clinched its first Southwest Division title in nine seasons — detailed some elements of his MVP case on Monday night after the red-hot Spurs beat the Miami Heat 136-111 for their 22nd win in their last 24 games.

“I have thought about it," Wembanyama said. "I think right now there is a debate. There should be, even though I think I should lead the race. I'm trying to make sure that at the end of the season, there's no debate.”

Wembanyama is averaging 24.3 points, 11.2 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 3.0 blocked shots per game. Only six players have finished a season with such numbers — Kareem Abdul-Jabbar did it five times, Hakeem Olajuwon did it twice, while Shaquille O'Neal, Patrick Ewing and David Robinson all did it once. The sixth player on that list? That would be Wembanyama, who did all that last season as well, albeit in only 46 games.

The reigning MVP, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder, is the overwhelming favorite to win the trophy again according to BetMGM Sportsbook. Next on the BetMGM list: the Los Angeles Lakers' Luka Doncic.

Wembanyama is next, with the third-best odds as of Monday, one spot ahead of Denver's Nikola Jokic. Everyone else would be considered a significant long shot for the award at this point, though the NBA's 65-game rule for major award eligibility — like MVP — could become a factor. Jokic can miss only one more game, for example, before he falls off the ballot and Wembanyama can miss no more than three more contests.

Wembanyama, who won rookie of the year two years ago and was generally considered a lock for defensive player of the year last season until he had to be shut down while dealing with deep vein thrombosis, has a three-part campaign pitch.

“My first one would be that defense is 50% of the game and that it is undervalued so far in the MVP race. I believe I’m the most impactful player defensively in the league," Wembanyama said. "Second argument would be that we almost swept OKC in the season, and we dominated them three times with their real team. ... The third argument would be that offense impact is not just points.”

It should not surprise anyone that the Spurs also believe Wembanyama is more than just an MVP contender.

“I think he’s close," Spurs coach Mitch Johnson said. "All those guys you named are deserving; a couple of them already have that award. And I'm very biased. I get to see one of those guys every single night. I get to see him on the practice court. I get to see what he does in the morning. I get to see what does right now after the game. So, I understand my opinion and outlook and perspective is very different than almost everyone else.

“But he affects as much of the game in every single way — on the court, on both ends, with and without the ball, what the other team tries to do, plan for, scheme, adjust to, on both sides of the basketball, in my very ignorant opinion, as much as any other player I’ve ever seen. Take that for whatever it’s worth.”

The Spurs are 54-18. They're going to be the No. 1 or No. 2 seed in the Western Conference. They'll have home court in Round 1 of the playoffs, Round 2 if they get there and almost certainly would have it in the NBA Finals if they get that far. There are a lot of reasons for that, but the biggest reason — literally, given that Wembanyama is 7-foot-4 — is a 22-year-old face of the franchise who has wowed the Spurs every day with his maturity and work ethic.

The MVPs are almost certainly coming at some point. Wembanyama doesn't want to keep waiting.

“Right now, it is still reasonable that there is a debate," Wembanyama said. "But as I said, my goal is to make sure there’s no debate anymore at the end of the season.”

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Milwaukee Bucks requested waivers on guard Cam Thomas and converted forward/center Pete Nance, who had been on a two-way deal, to a multi-year standard NBA contract.

Nance, 26, entered Monday night’s game with the Los Angeles Clippers having averaged 4.5 points, 2.2 rebounds and 12.1 minutes in 37 games while playing on a two-way deal.

The 24-year-old Thomas signed with the Bucks on Feb. 8 after the Brooklyn Nets had waived him.

Thomas scored 34 points in a 116-108 victory at Orlando in his Bucks debut and had 27 points in a 139-118 win at New Orleans nine days later, but his role eventually decreased. He didn’t play at all in back-to-back games with Indiana and Cleveland last week.

This move continues what’s been a difficult season for Thomas, who had scored 22.5 points per game in 2023-24 and 24 points per game in 2024-25 while playing for Brooklyn.

Thomas was averaging 15.6 points in 24 games with Brooklyn this season before the Nets waived him. He averaged 10.7 points and 16.6 minutes in 18 games with Milwaukee.

Many people joked about Moore’s reaction to a woman being hired for a football operations role. SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (AP) — The promoter and family of junior flyweight boxer Isis Sio say she is awake and breathing on her own after initially being placed in a medically induced coma following a knockout loss last weekend.

Sio is still in intensive care, but the 19-year-old is no longer on a ventilator, ProBox TV announced in a news release Monday.

Sio was stopped by Jocelyn Camarillo just 78 seconds into their bout at San Bernardino's National Orange Show Event Center last Saturday.

“Isis remains in ICU, but she is off the ventilator and we are hopeful for her progression,” Sio's camp said in its release. “We are awaiting further updates from her medical team. She is currently under the care of three specialized medical divisions who are closely monitoring her condition.”

Sio, who was born in North Dakota, has lost three of her four professional bouts since her debut last September.

She was also stopped by Perla Bazaldua on Jan. 26 in Long Beach, leading to widespread online speculation about why Sio was allowed to fight again so quickly.

Sio's camp responded to that speculation Monday by clarifying that Bazaldua stopped Sio with a body shot, rather than a head shot. Sio had already served the 45-day medical suspension necessitated by that type of stoppage loss and was medically cleared to return to competition, Sio's camp claimed.

“Her decision to compete on Saturday, March 21, against Jocelyn Camarillo was not made lightly, but rather thoughtfully reviewed and analyzed prior to acceptance,” the promoters said.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) — Teonni Key scored 19 points, Clara Strack had 18 points and 15 rebounds for her 16th double-double of the season and Kentucky nearly gave up a big lead and held on to beat West Virginia 74-73 Monday to advance to the NCAA women’s Sweet 16 for the first time in a decade.

No. 5 seed Kentucky (25-10) will meet top-seeded and Southeastern Conference rival Texas on Saturday in Fort Worth, Texas. Kentucky will make its seventh trip to the regional semifinals in program history and its first since 2016.

No. 4 seed West Virginia (28-7) nearly stormed back from a double-digit deficit. Sydney Shaw scored 11 of her 23 points in the fourth quarter and two Jordan Harrison free throws with 1:20 left brought the Mountaineers within 72-71. But West Virginia never retook the lead.

Led by Strack, Kentucky scored the first nine points of the third quarter to break open a tie game and take the lead for good. She had eight rebounds, four points, two assists, a block and a steal in the period and Kentucky built its largest lead, 62-48.

The Mountaineers were trying to get to the Sweet 16 for the first time since its only trip in 1992, when West Virginia earned a first-round bye and needed just one win in a field of 48 teams to get there.

Kierra Wheeler added 16 points for West Virginia.

Netflix’s forays into live sports have already been successful with the NFL and WWE. The streamer is hoping for another home run as its partnership with Major League Baseball begins Wednesday night with the Opening Night game between the New York Yankees and San Francisco Giants.

The opener is part of a three-event package for Netflix that also includes the Home Run Derby and Field of Dreams game between the Minnesota Twins and Philadelphia Phillies on Aug. 13.

Netflix’s progression into carrying baseball games is similar to how it ended up carrying the NFL — through successful documentaries that showed audience interest.

MLB also had an inventory of games and events it was looking to sell after ESPN opted out of its rights deal last February.

Besides Netflix getting three marquee events, NBC/Peacock is the new home of “Sunday Night Baseball” and the Wild Card Series.

Brandon Riegg, Netflix’s vice president of nonfiction series and sports, knew there was speculation it would carry the Home Run Derby, but one event for the season wasn’t feasible.

“This is in with our event strategy. On Opening Night, there’s only one game, and it’s on Netflix. And then doing the Home Run Derby and Field of Dreams, we can capitalize on the renewed fandom and energy around baseball,” he said.

Netflix — which is paying an average of $50 million per season for three years — also has the worldwide rights to the three MLB events, as it does for the NFL.

Netflix streamed all 47 games of the World Baseball Classic live and on demand in Japan. It also has the U.S. rights to the 2027 and ’31 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

MLB had an opening-night single game on Sunday for many years when the season began on Monday. That has changed in recent years, with the season now starting on Thursday.

“All of the events feel unique, and it’s our job to elevate those elements to make them even brighter. I think when you do that event approach, our experience at least has been you’re pulling in all the existing fans, but really you end up recruiting a lot of people that wouldn’t normally or wouldn’t have otherwise engaged or watched it,” Riegg said. “I think that’s always a big win for the league, and it’s certainly a big win for us.”

MLB Network will produce the game with Matt Vasgersian on play-by-play, CC Sabathia and Hunter Pence as the analysts, and Lauren Shehadi as a reporter.

Elle Duncan, who joined Netflix from ESPN in December, will host pregame and postgame coverage. She will be joined by Giants legend and seven-time NL MVP Barry Bonds, three-time NL MVP Albert Pujols, and Anthony Rizzo.

The same crews are also expected to do the Home Run Derby and Field of Dreams game.

“I think what folks have seen us accomplish on the platform, and also knowing we’re only doing a couple of things over the year. I think it allows greater flexibility for some of the talent we’re approaching, so they don’t have to lock themselves into a really long schedule or a high volume of commitment. I do think we’ve been able to have conversations with some talent that otherwise wouldn’t either be interested or available to do it,” Riegg said.

The game will feature Yankees slugger and Northern California native Aaron Judge, who was recruited by the Giants as a free agent in 2022 before signing a nine-year, $360 million contract to stay with the Yankees.

It will also be the debut of San Francisco manager Tony Vitello, who makes the jump to the majors from the University of Tennessee, where he led the Volunteers to. a College World Series title in 2024.

DETROIT (AP) — The Detroit Tigers signed right-handed reliever Connor Seabold to a one-year split contract that is worth $800,000 at the major league level, the team announced Monday.

The 30-year-old Seabold had a 6.75 ERA with one save in six spring training appearances with the Tigers.

Detroit is Seabold's fifth stop in the majors. He has a career record of 1-11 with a 7.79 ERA in 40 games with Boston, Colorado, Atlanta and Tampa Bay.

Seabold spent 2024 playing in South Korea, posting an 11-6 record with a 3.43 ERA in 28 starts, striking out 158 batters in 160 innings.

The Tigers placed right-handed reliever Beau Brieske on the 60-day injured list with a left adductor strain.

One Roof Sports and Entertainment will serve as the umbrella brand of the organization to “oversee a growing portfolio of properties and fuel new opportunities."

Holloway also announced the group has entered an agreement to purchase additional equity in Climate Pledge Arena from Oak View Group, and will make the organization the majority owner of the building. OVG will retain a minority stake.

“We’re committed to this community, and this parent brand brings together everything we’ve done, from a privately financed arena to the Seattle Kraken,” Holloway said in a statement. “Increasing our ownership in Climate Pledge Arena allows us to consolidate operations and sets us up for future opportunities. OVG is an amazing partner, and I am pleased that they will continue to operate the facility for many years to come.”

The transition of ownership of Climate Pledge Arena has been in the works for several months. The announcement also coincides with the upcoming NBA Board of Governors meeting in New York later this week.

According to the statement, One Roof Sports and Entertainment will oversee the Kraken, Climate Pledge Arena, the Kraken Community Iceplex and the organization’s interests in the Coachella Valley Firebirds of the AHL and Acrisure Arena in Palm Desert, California.

There will be winners and losers under the Automated Ball-Strike System, which makes its regular-season debut Wednesday night when the New York Yankees play at the San Francisco Giants. Using Hawk-Eye technology, 12 cameras measure whether a pitch crosses the strike zone with accuracy of about one-sixth of an inch.

Kyle Hendriks led the majors with 777 called strikes over the past decade on pitches that should have been balls, according to MLB Statcast. Conversely, Corbin topped the major leagues on balls that should have been called strikes with 470. He was followed by Chris Sale (461), Nola (460), Carlos Rodón (450), Yu Darvish (442), Sonny Gray (439), José Berríos (438), Steven Matz (436), and Jon Gray and Justin Verlander (435 apiece).

“All umpires always had like — they give a little bit here, they’re a little tight there. You know this as a hitter and a pitcher," said Verlander, a three-time Cy Young Award winner back with Detroit for the start of his 21st big league season. "But it’s all because of the way they set up and they see certain areas better than others. And now I think they’re put in a situation where they have to call this like theoretical zone, instead of creating their own strike zone that they’re probably much more consistent at.”

Mookie Betts led batters on called strikes that should have been balls at 714.

“He knows the strike zone as well as anyone and it does seem that he gets the short end of a lot of calls," Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. “He’s a guy I certainly would trust to challenge a call.”

Betts was followed by Eugenio Suárez (684), José Ramírez (657), Paul Goldschmidt (656), Aaron Judge (653), Marcus Semien (631), Xander Bogaerts (625), Alex Bregman (603) and Christian Yelich (594).

“When we didn’t have a challenge system, you just try to do the best you could and understand that there’s stuff that’s out of your control,” Goldschmidt said. “Definitely the guys that are a little bit more patient are always going to have that. We just understand that’s kind of the nature of it.”

Giancarlo Stanton had 440 called strikes on pitchers out of the strike zone and 351 balls on pitches that should have been strikes.

“The challenge, you could change the whole game right there,” the New York Yankees designated hitter said. “If you overturn one call, it could grow 15, 20 more pitches on a pitcher.”

Carlos Santana received the most balls that should have been called strikes with 636. He was followed by Mike Trout (612), Suárez (558), Ramírez (554), George Springer (539), Andrew McCutchen (513), Cody Bellinger (487), Freddie Freeman (471), and Ryan McMahon (466).

Statcast has been calculating based on the rule book strike zone at the front of home plate and using a batter’s stance. Starting this year, it will compute with the ABS strike zone measured at the middle of the plate and based on a batter's height.

Teams tried to prepare players by using ABS for batting practice and having the scoreboard signal ball/strike decisions.

A 1-1 pitch often can swing a plate appearance. Nola saw ABS in use last August when he made three injury rehabilitation starts at Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

“We’re just going to have to see what the umpires do,” he said, “if they’re really going to be that tight as they were down there.”

Statcast showed 1.6% of pitches out of the zone were called strikes last year, down from 2.1% in 2024 and the most accurate since 4.2% when tracking started in 2008.

Only 2.1% of pitches in the zone were ruled balls, up slightly from 1.7% in 2024 but well below 4.3% in 2008.

Pitchers who thrived on getting calls just beyond the black can lose those strikes, and memorable blown calls can be reversed — like Mark Langston’s 2-2 fastball to Tino Martinez in the 1998 World Series opener that was over the plate and above the knees but ruled a ball by since-retired umpire Richie Garcia. One pitch later, Martinez hit a tiebreaking grand slam, sparking the Yankees to a 9-6 win and four-game sweep.

Garcia doesn't wish that there had been ABS back then.

“I'd rather take the grief,” he said.

ATLANTA (AP) — Four days after walking off the court for the final time as Troy's coach, Scott Cross officially started his tenure at Georgia Tech.

Georgia Tech introduced Cross as its 16th coach in program history with a news conference Monday at McCamish Pavilion. The 51-year-old took Troy to the NCAA Tournament as Sun Belt champions each of the past two seasons. He now has the challenge of rebuilding a struggling Yellow Jackets program.

“We didn't pick Coach Cross,” Georgia Tech athletic director Ryan Alpert said. "Coach Cross picked us. We saw someone who valued this place, our academic mission and our desire to win.”

Since its most recent NCAA Tournament appearance in the 2020-21 season, Georgia Tech has finished at or below .500 in five consecutive seasons. The Yellow Jackets have a 69-93 overall record, including 30-68 in the Atlantic Coast Conference, in that span.

The program is a long way away from its past heights, including Final Fours in 1990 and 2004, as well as four ACC Tournament championships. Cross referred to Georgia Tech's history as a reason for taking the job.

“Georgia Tech has been to a national championship," he said. "If they can get there before, we can get there again.”

As with any new coach, resource management and funding will be a key point. Georgia Tech's roster will need a major overhaul coming off an 11-20 season and a last-place finish in the conference.

The transfer portal opens next month, and will likely require the Yellow Jackets to upgrade the roster before the 2026-27 season.

“We're not going to fund the program 18th and expect to win a conference championship," Alpert said. "We’re going to fund it competitively and give our coach and program an opportunity to win.”

Cross has experience in successfully building rosters. His 2024-25 NCAA Tournament team at Troy lost four of its five starters to the transfer portal, but he rebuilt the team and won the Sun Belt again in 2025-26.

Cross emphasized the need to get “OKGs” — his acronym for “our kinda guys” — as a key focus of his roster-building strategy, underlining the importance of finding players who fit his program and style of play.

“We will be a blue-collar program that focus on doing all the little things right," Cross said. "My motto is take the stairs. There are no short cuts on the basketball court, there are no shortcuts in the classroom and most importantly there are no shortcuts in life.”

Cross also noted the importance of using the recruiting area to his advantage to supplement the transfer portal. As coach of Troy he gained plenty of experience recruiting the Atlanta area and the region in general. He plans to take advantage of those connections at Georgia Tech.

“The city of Atlanta has some of the best basketball in the world," he said. “We will definitely start (recruiting) in Atlanta.”

Cross will be one of at least two new head coaches in the ACC next season. Syracuse fired Adrian Autry on Wednesday.

SEATTLE (AP) — The Seattle Seahawks and wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba have agreed to a four-year, $168.8 million contract extension, with $120 million guaranteed, a person with knowledge of the deal told The Associated Press on Monday.

The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the contract, which would make Smith-Njigba the highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL, hasn’t been finalized.

The 24-year-old set the team record for yards receiving (1,793) and receptions (119) in a single season en route to winning AP NFL Offensive Player of the Year award last season.

He will be under contract with Seattle through the 2031 season. The Seahawks exercised the fifth-year option on Smith-Njigba's rookie contract last week.

Smith-Njigba's new deal surpasses that of Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase, who signed a $161 million extension with $112 million guaranteed last March.

Smith-Njigba had nine 100-yard receiving games during the regular season and was a key to Seattle winning its second Super Bowl in franchise history. In the Seahawks’ 31-27 win over the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC championship game, Smith-Njigba had 10 catches for 153 yards receiving and a touchdown.

Overall, he has 282 receptions for 3,551 yards and 20 touchdowns in his career.

The Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring was more dramatic than it needed to be for Antonio Fuoco.

The 29-year-old Italian was in control of the GTD class for the majority of the race, but it began to unravel with just over three hours to go after he was handed a drive-through penalty for contact with the #64 Ford Mustang GT3 EVO of Ben Barker. It was followed up by another drive-through, this time for having too many crew over the wall during a pit stop.

Fuoco, who shares AF Corse USA’s #21 Ferrari GT3 EVO with Lilou Wadoux Ducellier and Simon Mann, overcame going a lap down and battled back to the lead in the final hour. However, he was nailed with a drive-through penalty for a third time after making contact with Miguel Molina in Triarsi Competizione’s #033 Ferrari GT3 EVO.

Despite what appeared at the time as a deathblow to hopes of victory, Fuoco once again rallied, chased down race leader Tom Gamble in Heart of Racing Team’s #27 Aston Martin Vantage GT3 Evo and made the winning pass on the final lap to complete the remarkable comeback.

“We still like to understand how we get three drive-through because I think two of them was not there, I would say,” Fuoco said. “But we were not able to review with the steward, so...

“Anyway, we went through. I think was really chaotic race, some up and down. At the end we managed to win. I think how the guy did an amazing job, Lilou, Simon, all the team, to never give up until the end.

“On the last safety car, we were P7 I think, 26 minute to go, then we were able to win the race. I think it was a really good one. Quite similar to the one I won in 2022. I think Sebring is always like this, is always a lot of close race.”

When asked by Motorsport.com during the post-race press conference if he ‘drove angry’ after contact in the final hour while leading, Fuoco admitted he was upset after the first setback.

“I was already angry after the first one [penalty] because I saw the image,” Fuoco said. “I think we can review 100 times and someone needs to explain to me why I got the drive-through because I still didn't understand. I mean, we are here for racing. If you are on the inside where you need to overtake the car, especially if the line is one.

“Anyway, I don't want to complain. I was already quite upset since that one. I knew we had a good potential. Also I really like this track, so I know that on the last hour I can push and make a bit of difference.

“But again, one hour to go I think I was on the best place because we were P1, then we had the contact, which I think was a bit of a misunderstanding between us. We will talk with the other guys.”

Fuoco recalled the impact of traffic, with the GTP battle among Porsche Penske Motorsport teammates Felipe Nasr and Kevin Estre cutting through his pursuit of Gamble on the penultimate lap.

“With the GTP, it's always 50/50,” Fuoco said. “Sometimes it can be good, sometimes maybe they overtake you and you lose a bit more time compared to the guy in front.

“I think on the last lap I lost a bit compared to the last one. I was thinking that I have a chance, especially on the last corner, because I was able to get a bit more speed there. I was trying to think on the last lap even if I was a bit far, I was a bit better on sector two compared to them. I was thinking to try on the last lap on the last corner. Luckily, (he) made a mistake a bit early, so it was a bit more easy.”

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — Wimbledon champion Iga Swiatek has parted company with her coach after her shock first round elimination at the Miami Open, she said on Monday.

In a post on Instagram, the world No. 3 announced her split from Wim Fissette, who she had worked with since 2024 and claimed her first Wimbledon title with last year.

Swiatek, who has won six Grand Slam titles, said she'd “decided to take a different path.”

“I’m grateful for his support, experience, and everything we achieved together — including one of my biggest dreams in sport.”

The 24-year-old from Poland was beaten in three sets by world No. 50 Magda Linette in Miami last week. The defeat ended her run of 73 straight opening-round wins on tour.

“Miami was challenging for me. I feel disappointment, bitterness and responsibility for my performance on the court of course,” she said.

Swiatek said the rest of her team would remain unchanged.

“I know there are many questions, but l’ll let you know what’s next at the right time. I’m taking a moment to take care of myself, process this experience, and prepare for a new chapter,” she said.

Fissette has worked with a long list of top players that includes Naomi Osaka, Kim Clijsters and Victoria Azarenka.

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (AP) — Gavin Lux's debut with the Tampa Bay Rays is going to have to wait.

The club is placing the veteran infielder on injured reserve with a right shoulder impingement. The move means Richie Palacios will make the opening day roster for Tampa Bay.

The Rays acquired Lux from Cincinnati in January as part of a three-team deal that sent outfielder Josh Lowe from Tampa Bay to the Los Angeles Angels. Los Angeles sent left-handed reliever Brock Burke to Cincinnati as part of the swap.

Lux, 28, hit .269 with five homers and 53 RBIs last season with the Reds. A career .256 hitter who won a pair of World Series titles with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Lux agreed to a $5.525 million, one-year contract shortly before being sent to Tampa Bay and can become a free agent after this year’s World Series.

Lux struggled a bit in his first spring training with Tampa Bay, hitting .190 in seven games and had been dealing with what manager Kevin Cash described as a “cranky” right shoulder in recent days.

LEIPZIG, Germany (AP) — Sought-after young winger Yan Diomande has been sidelined with a shoulder injury which rules him out of the Ivory Coast squad for upcoming friendlies ahead of the World Cup, his club Leipzig said Monday.

The 19-year-old Diomande has shot to prominence this season with 10 goals and seven assists in 26 Bundesliga games since joining Leipzig in July. He's been linked with a potential transfer to top clubs across Europe.

Leipzig said Diomande “suffered a capsular injury to his left shoulder” in Leipzig's 5-0 win over Hoffenheim on Friday and that it's not yet clear how long he will be out.

“Following discussions between all those involved, it has been agreed that the attacker will not join up with Ivory Coast during the international break in order to focus fully on his recovery,” the club added.

Diomande, who grew up in Florida before a spell in Spain with Leganes, has scored three goals in nine games for the Ivory Coast. His national team is due to face South Korea in a friendly Saturday and Scotland three days later. The Ivory Coast is in Group E with Ecuador, Germany and Curacao at the World Cup.

For years, AirDrop has been Apple’s tightly guarded convenience feature, locking seamless file sharing inside its own ecosystem. That changes starting today. Samsung is now baking AirDrop interoperability directly into Quick Share, and this is not a concept or beta experiment. It is going live.

Release date

Samsung has officially kicked off the rollout on March 23, 2026, starting in South Korea. This is not a slow, vague deployment either, but the company already has a clear expansion roadmap.

Older Samsung Galaxy devices will likely receive AirDrop compatibility with the Stable One UI 8.5 update. For now, the Galaxy S26 series is being prioritized as it comes preinstalled with the official One UI 8.5 software.

Countries

Next stops include the US (North America) and Europe, followed by Hong Kong, Japan, Latin America, Southeast Asia, and Taiwan. In a typical Samsung strategy, the rollout will move in waves, but the intent is obvious.

This is meant to scale globally and quickly.

Compatibility

The update itself is part of One UI 8.5, delivered via firmware version AZCF. It is a relatively lightweight package, under 1GB, but the impact is anything but small.

This feature is exclusive to the Samsung Galaxy S26 lineup, including the S26, S26 Plus, and S26 Ultra. That exclusivity will frustrate some users, no doubt, but  Samsung has already confirmed expansion to older devices is coming.

Samsung has kept the process simple, which is exactly what it needed to do.

To enable AirDrop compatibility:

• Settings > Connected Devices > Quick Share > Share with Apple Devices

Once toggled on, Galaxy users can send files directly to nearby Apple devices. There is one important condition on the receiving end. iPhone users must have their AirDrop visibility set to “Everyone.” Without that, the sharing will not happen.

Alienware has announced the availability of its latest Area-51 and Aurora gaming laptops as part of its 30th anniversary lineup, introducing updated hardware, revised thermal designs, and a new visual direction. The systems were initially introduced at CES 2025 and are now available to purchase.

The Area-51 series returns as the company’s flagship notebook range, focusing on high-end configurations and larger form factors. This generation introduces what Alienware calls its “Alienware 30” design language, which replaces sharper edges with curved surfaces. The chassis also incorporates a concealed hinge design and a softer palm rest layout aimed at improving long-duration usability.

The lineup includes 16-inch and 18-inch models with WQXGA (2560 x 1600) displays. The 16-inch variant can be configured with an OLED panel offering a 240Hz refresh rate, 0.2ms response time, and up to 620 nits of peak HDR brightness. The 18-inch model uses a 300Hz panel with 500 nits brightness and a 3ms response time. An LCD option is also available for the smaller model.

On the hardware side, both Area-51 models can be equipped with up to Intel’s Core Ultra 9 290HX processor and NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 5090 laptop GPU with 24GB of VRAM. Memory support goes up to 64GB of DDR5-6400 in a dual-channel configuration. Storage includes up to 2TB PCIe Gen 5 SSD, with support for up to three internal drives, allowing total capacity to scale up to 12TB.

The systems are built on the Intel HM870 chipset and use an 8-phase CPU and 11-phase GPU VRM design. Cooling is handled by larger internal fans, while power is delivered through a 96Whr battery paired with a 280W adapter. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4, with the 18-inch model also offering 2.5G Ethernet.

Alongside the flagship models, Alienware has introduced the 16X Aurora, positioned as a more portable alternative. The design removes the raised thermal shelf found in many gaming laptops, resulting in a thinner profile. The chassis retains rounded edges and a similar palm rest approach as the Area-51 series.

The 16X Aurora features a 16-inch WQXGA OLED display with a 240Hz refresh rate, 0.2ms response time, and 620 nits HDR peak brightness. It is powered by up to an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX processor and up to an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti GPU. Memory can be configured up to 64GB DDR5-5600, with storage options up to 2TB PCIe Gen 5 SSD.

Connectivity includes Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, and Gigabit Ethernet. The system is backed by a 90Whr battery and supports up to a 280W charger on higher-end configurations.

Pricing

Pricing varies depending on the configuration. The Alienware 16X Aurora with a Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus processor starts at $2,919 for pre-configured models. The Area-51 16 and Area-51 18 with similar high-end specs are priced at $4,899 and $4,999, respectively.

Dell also offers lower-priced “build your own” options. Current starting prices for Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus variants are:

• Alienware 16X Aurora: RTX 5060, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD, 240Hz OLED – $2,119
• Alienware 16 Area-51: RTX 5070 Ti, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD, 240Hz OLED – $3,569.99

Samsung Galaxy S26 smartphone users can now send files directly to AirDrop-compatible Apple devices using Quick Share feature. No cables, no third-party apps; just native sharing between Galaxy and iPhone, iPad, or Mac.

As of March 23, Samsung users can send files directly to Apple devices using the AirDrop-supported Quick Share feature. This change arrives with the latest firmware update for the Galaxy S26 lineup.

It took time, but it’s here.

Google quietly introduced cross-platform sharing support on select Pixel devices late last year. Now Samsung has picked it up and pushed it further. With the AZCF firmware, Quick Share gains interoperability with Apple’s AirDrop protocol.

This is not a separate app. It’s built into the existing Quick Share framework.

How to enable “Share with Apple devices”

Samsung has kept the setup simple, but it’s buried under Quick Share settings.

Here’s the exact path:

1. Open Settings
2. Tap “Connected devices”
3. Go to “Quick Share”
4. Look for a new toggle: “Share with Apple devices”
5. Turn it on.

Once enabled, your Galaxy device can detect nearby Apple devices that are ready to receive files.

What needs to be set on the Apple device

The receiving iPhone, iPad, or Mac must have AirDrop visibility set to “Everyone.” If it’s set to “Contacts Only” or turned off, your Galaxy device won’t see it.

Requirements you cannot ignore

The feature depends on updated backend services. If it is not working, check these first:

• Google Play Services: version 26.11.33 or higher
• Quick Share app: version 13.8.51.30 or higher

If either of these is outdated, the Apple sharing toggle may not appear at all. Samsung’s latest update for the Galaxy S26 series automatically updates both services to the latest versions.

At the moment, this is exclusive to the Galaxy S26 series:

On the Apple side, it works with:

• iPhone
• iPad
• Mac

There are no additional apps required on iOS or macOS.

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) — Delaney Thomas had 17 points and Toby Fournier scored 13 of her 15 points in the first half, helping No. 3 Duke beat No. 6 Baylor 69-46 on Sunday in the second round of the women’s NCAA Tournament.

Arianna Roberson had 10 points and 10 rebounds off the bench and Ashlon Jackson added 12 points for Duke (26-8), which never trailed.

The Blue Devils advanced to the Sweet 16 for the third straight season and 20th time overall. They will play No. 2 LSU, a 101-47 winner over No. 7 Texas Tech, in the Sacramento 2 Regional.

Baylor (25-9) was held to its worst offensive output of the season. The Bears managed just eight points in each of the first two quarters and finished 0-of-14 from beyond the arc, failing to make a 3-pointer for the first time this year. They shot 30.2% overall.

Taliah Scott, who scored 24 points in a season-opening 58-52 win over Duke in Paris, led Baylor with 13 points on 3-of-17 shooting.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) — Elina Aarnisalo had 21 points, Lanie Grant scored 20 and North Carolina used a strong fourth quarter to beat Maryland and reach the women’s Sweet 16 for the second year in a row.

Nyla Harris had 14 points and eight rebounds and Indya Nivar added 11 points to help the fourth-seeded Tar Heels (28-7) advance in the Fort Worth 1 Regional.

Oluchi Okananwa, who helped eliminate North Carolina last March in the Sweet 16 when she played for Duke, scored 21 points for No. 5 seed Maryland (24-9). Addi Mack had 13 points and Mir McLean had 12 points and 14 rebounds. The Terrapins couldn’t overcome 3-for-23 shooting on 3-pointers.

After briefly falling behind, the Tar Heels used a 13-4 run, sparked by six points from Nivar, early in the fourth quarter for a 63-56 lead.

Maryland pulled within three in the final two minutes, but Nyla Brooks drained a 3-pointer from in front of the North Carolina bench. The Terrapins failed to convert as part of 30.6% shooting in the second half.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — Olivia Olson had all 27 of her points in the second half and Syla Swords bounced back from a slow start to score 26 and help Michigan rout short-handed N.C. State and earn a spot in the women’s Sweet 16.

The Wolverines (27-6) will play the winner of third-seeded Louisville vs. sixth-seeded Alabama in the NCAA Tournament Fort Worth Regional semifinals.

The seventh-seeded Wolfpack (21-11) were without All-ACC guard Zoe Brooks, who had a protective boot on her right foot after being injured in Friday night’s win against 10th-seeded Tennessee.

That hurt against Michigan’s swarming and trapping defense that forced 22 turnovers, including 10 in the third quarter that helped the Wolverines take a 16-point lead into the fourth after a closely contested first half.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Madison Booker scored a career-high 40 points in a dazzling display of shot making and No. 1 Texas rolled past No. 8 Oregon in the second round of the women’s NCAA Tournament, sending the Longhorns back to the Sweet 16 for the third consecutive year.

The Longhorns’ three-time All-American was dominant from the opening tip as she created shots from all over the floor. She scored 19 in the first half, and her 3-point play early in the third quarter, when she muscled through and over three defenders for a layup, sparked a 19-4 run that turned the game into a rout.

Booker’s previous high was 31, set just a few weeks ago against Mississippi in the Southeastern Conference tournament.

Texas (33-3) ran its home win streak to 44. A No. 1 seed for the third year in a row, the Longhorns now head to Fort Worth in a bid to return to the Final Four for the second consecutive season. They will play the winner of Monday’s matchup between No. 4 West Virginia (28-6) and No. 5 Kentucky (24-10).

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Amaya Battle hit a tiebreaking jump shot with 0.7 seconds left, lifting Minnesota past Mississippi to reach the Sweet 16 for the first time in 21 years.

Battle, who finished with 14 points, 11 rebounds and five assists, took the inbound pass near the paint and dribbled out along the baseline for more space before swishing the winner and landing on her back.

The No. 4 seed Gophers (24-8) swarmed their senior point guard in a frenzied celebration, before regrouping for the final possession. Tianna Thompson’s 3-point try for the No. 5 seed Rebels (24-12) from the top of the key on the other end hit the front of the rim and fell short.

Mara Braun scored 17 points for the Gophers, including the tying 3-pointer with 1:17 remaining before helping force a shot-clock violation by the Rebels on the ensuing possession. Sophie Hart, who added 10 points, gave the Gophers their first lead since early in the third quarter with a determined drop-step to the basket for a short bank shot with 18 seconds left.

BATON ROUGE, La (AP) — Flau’jae Johnson and Mikaylah Williams each scored 24 points and LSU set an NCAA record for 100-point games in a season with a victory over Texas Tech.

Amiya Joyner added 11 points and 11 rebounds for LSU, which shot 56% against a Lady Raiders squad that hangs its hat on its pressing defense and had allowed just 52 points to Villanova in the first round.

Jada Richard’s 3 in the final minute pushed LSU (29-5) across the 100-point mark for the 16th time this season, a Division I record, eclipsing the mark Long Beach State had owned since the 1986-87 season.

The Tigers, who came in averaging a nation’s best 95.1 points per game, advanced to a fourth straight Sweet 16 under coach Kim Mulkey in style.

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — Raegan Beers had 18 points and 14 rebounds to help No. 4 seed Oklahoma beat fifth-seeded Michigan State in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Aaliyah Chavez added 18 points and six assists for the Sooners (27-7), who advanced to play in the Sweet 16 of March Madness for the second straight year. They’ll play the winner of Monday’s matchup between No. 1 seed South Carolina and No. 9 seed Southern California. Oklahoma defeated South Carolina in overtime during the regular season.

Rashunda Jones scored 20 points, Kennedy Blair had 14 points and nine rebounds and Grace VanSlooten added 13 points and seven rebounds for Michigan State (23-9). The Spartans were trying to reach the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2009.

Michigan State led 42-37 at halftime behind 47.1% shooting. The Spartans held Oklahoma to 38.9% shooting and forced the Sooners into 14 turnovers.

No. 3 TCU 62, No. 6 WASHINGTON 59, OT

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — Olivia Miles had a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds while adding some big assists late as third-seeded TCU finally overcame Washington for an overtime victory to send the Horned Frogs to the women’s NCAA Sweet 16 for the second year in a row.

Clara Silva had 16 points, with the go-ahead layup to start overtime after game-tying and tiebreaking baskets late in regulation on passes from Miles. Taylor Bigby scored 15 for TCU (31-5).

The Horned Frogs had never been to the Sweet 16 before last season, when they got to the Elite Eight. They are now headed to Sacramento, where the Big 12 regular-season champions will play Saturday night against second-seeded Iowa or 10th-seeded Virginia, who play their second-round game Monday night in Iowa City.

TCU won its 44th consecutive home game since February 2024, matching top seed Texas for the NCAA’s longest active streak.

The rollout of AirDrop has started on Galaxy S26 phones, and Samsung just revealed a crucial step to activate the features.

Google was the one who made AirDrop sharing real on Android phones. Samsung, through its community moderator, has now revealed the activation steps, which involve updating the Google Play Services app.

Samsung says its Quick Share-AirDrop sharing compatibility requires Google Play Services version 26.11.xx or above. If you’re running an older version, it needs to be updated to let you access AirDrop-style file sharing.

The statement says it loud that AirDrop is backed by core Android services. Without having the required version of Google Play Services, even Samsung won’t be able to provide you with access to the AirDrop feature.

Samsung also shared a tutorial to update Google Play Services. Galaxy users are required to open Settings > Apps > Google Play Services > App source info > Update.

Google Play Services mostly comes as a server-side update. They install when you use your phone or restart it. A software update also brings an updated version of core Android apps to improve performance and functionality.

Samsung today announced the rollout of AirDrop to the Galaxy S26 series. Users in South Korea even started getting a software update that installs AirDrop. If you also own an S26 phone, keep checking for the updates.

Quick Share is now capable of transferring files through AirDrop. It’s one of the strongest strikes on Apple’s ecosystem. It’s not just convenience, but it also paves the way for shoppers to consider switching to Samsung or Google.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Alex Karaban scored a career-high 27 points and had Bill Murray and the rest of the UConn crowd roaring with each splashed 3-pointer, helping send the second-seeded Huskies back to the Sweet 16 with a 73-57 win over UCLA in the NCAA Tournament on Sunday night.

The Huskies (31-5) will play third-seeded Michigan State in the East Region semifinals on Friday night in Washington.

Coach Dan Hurley, who won consecutive national championships in 2023 and 2024, has the Huskies back in a familiar spot after they were bounced in the second round a year ago by eventual national champion Florida.

The Gators are gone already in March Madness. The games will go on for the Huskies.

Karaban was about a one-man show for UConn in the first half with a pair of 3s and 11 points and the fourth-year senior remains in the hunt for this third national championship.

The Bruins (24-12) had no answer for Karaban or how to slow the rest of the Huskies as they gamely tried to make due in the absence of leading scorer Tyler Biloudeau. Xavier Booker led the Bruins with 13 points.

Murray — his son, Luke, is a UConn assistant coach — got in on the fun during the Huskies’ game-changing 14-0 run and even did the “ 6-7 ” hand gesture during a timeout.

Karaban, UConn's career 3-point leader, punctuated the spurt that made it 56-44 with his fourth 3 of the game and the Huskies were never seriously challenged again.

Karaban is a rarity in college basketball in this name, image, likeness era that has rewarded players with the freedom of yearly transfers as they chase greater riches. He's played all four seasons — and started all but one of his 147 games — with the Huskies and has now been rewarded with yet another Sweet 16.

UConn's Tarris Reed Jr. would be hard-pressed to duplicate the monster performance of 31 points and 27 rebounds he had in the opener. He followed with a more modest double-double of 10 points and 13 rebounds. Braylon Mullins scored 17 points for UConn.

The Huskies entered March Madness in a bit of a slump by their championship standard after a loss to St. John's in the Big East Tournament title game made them 2-2 over their final four games.

UConn got the last laugh in Philadelphia — well, at least 76ers center Andre Drummond did when the former Huskies star came over to tease fellow Sixers center and former UCLA standout Adem Bona in the waning moments.

Jaylin Stewart again sat out with a knee injury that’s sidelined him since late February. Silas Demary Jr., a first team All-Big East selection, returned to the lineup and played 22 minutes after he sustained an ankle injury in the Big East Tournament.

Skyy Clark has plenty to chew on after tough loss for UCLA

Skyy Clark could not cap his season with a Sweet 16. He only finished with a capped tooth.

Clark lost a tooth in UCLA's first-round win against UCF and needed overnight dental surgery for repairs. Just like Steph Curry, Clark chewed on his new mouthpiece throughout the game.

One UCLA fan bellowed at Clark, “keep firing, Skyy! Keep firing!”

With his back to the stands, Clark nodded at the encouragement – and kept firing.

He buried a 3 for a 42-40 lead — one of the last bright spots for UCLA — and finished with 11 points.

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — A dominant frontcourt helped Florida earn another No. 1 seed and positioned the defending national champion Gators for a chance at a repeat.

They ran into a more physical team.

Ninth-seeded Iowa played tougher inside the paint and across the court, knocking No. 1 seed Florida out of the NCAA Tournament with a 73-72 victory on Sunday in the second round. The Gators became the first top seed eliminated from this year's March Madness, and the first since Xavier in 2018 to fall to a No. 9 seed.

“If their plan was to try to finish over our size at the rim, I would live with that any day of the week,” Florida coach Todd Golden said. “That’s been a really bad formula for teams all year. We’ve been one of the best 2-point field goal defenses in America. We just didn’t to it tonight. Credit to them.

“I thought they were tough and physical and did a good job finishing around the rim and we did not. We did not do a good enough job preventing them from finishing it, but if that’s what they saw and they exploited it, then credit to them.”

Tavion Banks, who led Iowa with 20 points, said he knew the Hawkeyes could pull off an upset after reviewing Florida’s games.

“The physicality. We’re in two different conferences; we’re in the Big Ten, they’re in the SEC,” he said. “But I just know we’re more physical. And after just watching the film and just seeing what they were doing, I just knew that we had an opportunity to win the game.”

It came down to the final seconds after Florida rallied from a 12-point deficit and had a 72-70 lead with 8.9 seconds remaining. Golden wanted his team to foul to prevent a 3-pointer, but Bennett Stirtz broke through the full-court press and saw Alvaro Folgueiras wide open in the corner. Folgueiras nailed the 3.

Xaivian Lee drove hard to the basket but tried unsuccessfully to dish the ball to Thomas Haugh, and the Gators didn’t even get a final shot.

“I felt he stepped up, maybe I could have shot a floater or pull up or something,” Lee said. “I was going pretty fast, and I thought I had time for the dunk in, but I don’t know.”

Alex Condon led Florida with 21 points, Haugh had 19 and Lee added 17.

Rueben Chinyelu, who broke a school record with his 19th double-double of the season in a 59-point win over Prairie View on Friday night, was held to zero points and one rebound in 19 minutes.

“In the first half, I was just out of it,” Haugh said. “I just feel bad. I didn’t make any plays, didn’t do anything to help the team out to win the first half. But yeah, second half I thought we started to get in it. But they’re a good team, and they just played way harder than us and hit more shots and just made more plays in the end.”

Chinyelu, who had four fouls, only took one shot.

“We were not strong enough around the rim in the first half, nor were we able to get any deep post catches,” Golden said. “A lot of his opportunities around the glass as well, he had no offensive rebounds tonight. So I think a combination of that was the reason he was not as effective as normal.”

Florida finished 27-8, missing an opportunity to advance to the Sweet 16 and continue its quest for another title.

An emotional Haugh stayed down on the floor after failing to handle Lee’s pass at the end. Lee also was bent down in frustration.

“I’m going to remember this feeling for a while,” Condon said. “I’m just going to use it as motivation. I think it’s going to make us better players individually just to know what this feeling is like, working hard all year to get into this position as a 1 seed and just letting it get away from us a little bit.”

PHOENIX (AP) — Devin Booker scored 25 points, Jalen Green added 20 and the Phoenix Suns snapped a five-game losing streak by beating the Toronto Raptors 120-98 on Sunday night.

Phoenix won its 40th game of the season, which is already a four-win improvement over last year with 10 games to play.

The Suns never trailed and took an 18-point lead into halftime. They extended the advantage to 92-62 late in the third when Booker got fouled while making a driving layup, adding the free throw to convert the three-point play.

Booker shot 9 of 15 from the field, including 3 of 6 from 3-point range. Collin Gillespie added 16 points. The Suns' second unit played well with Ryan Dunn scoring 12 and rookie Rasheer Fleming adding 11.

Toronto lost its second straight. The Raptors are still No. 5 in the Eastern Conference playoff race, but fell to 39-31, which is just a half-game ahead of the Atlanta Hawks and Philadelphia 76ers. The top six teams automatically make the playoffs in each conference.

Scottie Barnes led the Raptors with 17 points. RJ Barrett and Ja'Kobe Walter both added 13.

Phoenix jumped out to a 34-20 after one quarter after shooting 8 of 12 from 3-point range and extended the advantage to 66-48 by halftime. Booker led the Suns with 12 points before the break, while Barnes had 13 for the Raptors.

The banged-up Suns won despite missing a big chunk of their playing rotation, including Royce O'Neale (knee), Grayson Allen (knee), Dillon Brooks (hand) and Mark Williams (foot).

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Oregon was simply helpless against Madison Booker.

Texas' three-time All-American forward did anything she wanted as she scored a career-high 40 points in a rollicking 100-58 win over Oregon on Sunday that earned the No. 1-seeded Longhorns a trip to the Sweet 16 for the third consecutive year.

Drive for layups? Easy. Her go-to mid-range jumper? Breezy. Step out for 3-pointers? Swish.

Booker set a Texas school record for most points in an NCAA Tournament game.

It's still 10 points shy of the overall tournament record of 50 set by Drake's Lorri Bauman in 1982. But give her time. She's got at least one more game coming up in Fort Worth, and if the Longhorns are going to play for their first national championship in 40 years, she could get four more.

Booker carried the Longhorns to the Elite Eight as a freshman and to Final Four last season.

“She's a generational talent,” Texas coach Vic Schaefer said.

And an unselfish one. Schaefer often has to tell his star player to go get her shot instead of making the extra pass to a teammate.

“I want her to hunt to go get a bucket,” Schaefer said.

That side of her is emerging now that it's time to start collecting trophies.

Booker came in to the tournament averaging 18.9 points. She set her previous career high of 31 just a couple of weeks ago against Mississippi in the Southeastern Conference tournament, which Texas won.

The previous Texas tournament scoring record of 32 was set by Clarissa Davis in 1986 and Heather Schreiber in 2003. The 1986 team won the national title. The 2003 team made the Final Four.

“Coach Schaefer has pushed me into taking a big role, being aggressive on the offensive end,” Booker said.

She was dominant from the start against Oregon, scoring 14 points in the first quarter. Bookers' final stat line included 14-of-21 shooting, eight rebounds, five assists, two steals and no turnovers.

“I’ve never seen that. I’d like to see it again,” Texas senior guard Rori Harmon said. “I saw the look in her eyes when she came in. I saw something special coming today.”

WINNIPEG, Manitoba (AP) — Rebecca Leslie scored on a power play 12 seconds into overtime to give the Ottawa Charge a 2-1 victory over the Montreal Victoire on Sunday night.

Part of the PWHL's Takeover Tour, the game attracted a capacity crowd of 15,321 fans to Canada Life Centre.

Leslie scored with Montreal’s Abby Roque serving a penalty for slashing late in the third period.

Gabbie Hughes opened the scoring for Ottawa at 5:37 of the second. Nicole Gosling tied it with 8:40 left in the period.

NEW YORK (AP) — Karl-Anthony Towns had 26 points and 16 rebounds, Jalen Brunson scored 23 points and the New York Knicks beat the Washington Wizards 145-113 on Sunday night for their sixth straight victory.

Josh Hart made all three 3-point shots and added 16 points as New York handed Washington its 16th straight loss. Mikal Bridges had 14 points and six assists, while Mitchell Robinson came off the bench to make all five shots and finish with 10 points and 10 rebounds in 17 minutes.

The Knicks rang up 77 points in the second half against one of the NBA's worst teams and shot 58.5% from the floor and 53% from 3-point range. They also made 18 of 19 free throws (94.7%).

Tyler Kolek played about 5 1/2 minutes in the blowout and went 4 for 4, including 3 for 3 behind the arc, and scored 11 points after pouring in 42 while playing for the Knicks' NBA G League team earlier in the day.

Jaden Hardy made seven 3-pointers and scored 25 points for the Wizards. Anthony Gill had 18.

The Knicks led 68-52 at halftime, then made nearly 62% of their shots in the final two quarters and led by 33 points in the fourth.

The Knicks beat the Wizards for the 12th straight time, their second-longest winning streak in the series. New York beat Washington 15 straight games between 1992-95.

The Wizards played without forward Justin Champagnie, who was suspended one game by the NBA for fighting and escalating an on-court altercation that spilled into the seating area during a loss to Oklahoma City on Saturday.

NEW YORK (AP) — Florida Panthers forward A.J. Greer has been suspended three games for shoving Calgary Flames forward Connor Zary into the boards from behind.

The NHL announced the punishment on Sunday.

The play occurred 11:11 into the third period of Florida's 4-1 loss at Calgary on Friday night. The 29-year-old Greer was assessed a major penalty for interference and a game misconduct.

Greer has a career-high 13 goals and 24 points in 68 games this season. He will miss games against Seattle, Minnesota and the New York Islanders, and he forfeits $13,281.24 in salary that goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) — Ty Pence had 23 points, Johnny Kinziger scored 19, including a go-ahead 3-pointer with two seconds left, and Illinois State rallied to beat top seed Wake Forest 78-75 on Sunday in the second round of the NIT.

Fourth-seeded Illinois State (22-12) heads to No. 2 seed Dayton for a campus-site quarterfinal. The last time the Redbirds won twice in a NIT appearance was in 1996.

Illinois State trailed 53-44 with 11:28 remaining before rallying to tie it on Landon Wolf's 3-pointer with 6:29 to go and then taking the lead on a Pence 3-pointer on its next possession.

There were four lead changes and five ties from there — the final tie came on Tre'Von Spillers layup with 28 seconds left to set the stage for Kinziger.

Pence made 8 of 11 shots with three 3-pointers and all four of his free throws. Kinziger buried 5 of 10 from beyond the arc and added five assists. Chase Walker scored 15.

Spillers made all 11 of his shots and scored 24 to pace the Demon Deacons (18-17), adding eight rebounds. Juke Harris totaled 20 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Harris finished with 750 points this season — the second highest total in program history. Len Chappell set the record with 932 points during the 1961-62 season. Chappell had 745 points his prior season. Dickie Hemric scored 746 in 1954-55.

Omaha Biliew added 11 points and six boards for Wake Forest, while Myles Colvin scored 10 off the bench.

Cooper Schwieger's dunk for Wake Forest in the final minute tied it 32-all at halftime.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Colorado Rockies reliever RJ Petit will miss this season after he had Tommy John surgery with an internal brace.

The operation was performed by Dr. Keith Meister on Friday in Dallas, according to MLB.com.

The Rockies selected the 6-foot-8 Petit with the first pick in last year’s Rule 5 draft.

The 26-year-old Petit was taken by the Tigers in the 14th round of the 2021 amateur draft. He went 10-2 with a 2.44 ERA in two starts and 45 relief appearances last season for Double-A Erie and Triple-A Toledo. He struck out 79 and walked 22 in 66 1/3 innings.

Petit is 21-15 with a 3.40 ERA and 14 saves in five starts and 182 relief appearances over five minor league seasons, but he has yet to make his big league debut.

NEW YORK (AP) — Lionel Messi scored the equalizer off a free kick in the second half before helping to set up Micael dos Santos' winner and Inter Miami came from behind to beat New York City FC 3-2 at Yankee Stadium on Sunday.

Inter Miami (3-1-1) pulls into a second-place tie in the Eastern Conference by handing NYCFC (3-1-1) its first loss.

Gonzalo Luján scored his first career goal — unassisted off a rebound in the 4th minute to give Inter Miami an early lead. The 21-year-old defender has started in 23 of his 30 career appearances.

Nicolás Fernández continued his red-hot start with his fifth goal, scoring off a free kick in the 17th minute to pull NYCFC even. Fernández has eight goals in 16 career appearances since last season.

Agustín Ojeda scored — with assists from Maxi Moralez and Kevin O'Toole — to give NYCFC a 2-1 lead in the 59th minute. It was Ojeda's second goal this season and his fifth in 61 career matches. Moralez already has four assists this season.

The advantage lasted for two minutes until Messi drilled a left-footed free kick that ricocheted its way past Matt Freese for his fourth goal this season. It was Messi's 54th goal in his 58th MLS appearance. The Argentine legend has scored 901 goals in his illustrious international and club career.

Messi's corner kick in the 74th minute helped set up a header by Micael and Inter Miami took a 3-2 lead. Noah Allen and David Ayala assisted on Micael's first goal with his new team.

Dayne St. Claire turned away three shots on goal for Inter Miami in his first season with the defending MLS Cup champions. He has surrendered eight goals in his four starts.

Matt Freese had five saves for NYCFC.

Messi had shots bounce off the post and crossbar in the first half.

NYCFC leads the series 7-4-4, but Miami has gone 3-0-4 in the last seven matchups.

LONDON (AP) — Tottenham coach Igor Tudor missed media duties following his team's 3-0 loss to Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on Sunday because of a family bereavement.

Britain's Press Association said Tudor was informed of the bereavement in his “immediate family” after full time. His assistant Bruno Saltor carried out post-match interviews in Tudor's absence.

“It’s a personal family issue and obviously it’s a difficult moment for him,” Saltor said.

The home defeat left Tottenham one place and one point above the relegation zone.

Tottenham - one of English soccer’s most iconic teams and a founding member of the Premier League - is still without a win in the top flight in 2026. Its last win was Dec. 28 and it has lost six of its last seven games.

It has been ever-present in England’s top division since the inception of the Premier League in 1992.

CINCINNATI (AP) — Tom Barlow scored short-handed for the equalizer in the 80th minute and Kévin Denkey followed with the winner in the fourth minute of stoppage time, rallying FC Cincinnati to a 4-3 victory over CF Montreal on Sunday.

Barlow tied it 3-3 when he scored three minutes after subbing in to the match. It was his first MLS goal with his new team. Denkey scored for the second time this season — also unassisted — after notching 15 goals in 29 appearances last season — his first in the league.

Cincinnati (2-3-0) was forced to play a man down after Miles Robinson's red card in the 60th minute.

Newcomer Wiki Carmona used assists from Prince Owusu and Bode Hidalgo in the 6th minute to score for the third time in three matches and give Montreal a 1-0 lead.

Ender Echenique tied it in the 40th minute for Cincinnati with his first goal this season. The 21-year-old scored once in eight appearances last season. Defender Alvas Powell and Matt Miazga had assists. Powell picked up his first assist of the campaign and became the fifth player to make 150 appearances for the club.

Montreal took a 2-1 lead into halftime when Owusu scored in the 45th minute. Carmona and Iván Jaime had assists. It was the third goal this season for Owusu and his 25th in 79 career appearances.

Cincinnati knotted the score again in the 52nd minute on Ayoub Jabbari's first career goal in his 10th appearance. Echenique had his first assist and second overall, while Pavel Bucha notched his first — and 13th in 70 appearances.

Evan Louro totaled four saves in his first start this season for Cincinnati and his sixth career start since 2024.

Thomas Gillier, 21, finished with four saves for Montreal (1-4-0) in his 13th career start.

Cincinnati improves to 8-4-2 all-time versus Montreal and its eight victories in the series is its most against any club.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Alex Ovechkin scored his 1,000th career NHL goal combining the regular season and playoffs, but the league-leading Colorado Avalanche beat the Washington Capitals 3-2 in overtime on Sunday.

Ovechkin's goal, his 26th of the season, came from his traditional spot on the power play and tied the score with 5:43 left in regulation. He extended his career record to 923, nearly a year since passing Wayne Gretzky for the most in league history.

Gretzky has NHL 1,016 goals: 894 in the regular season and 122 in the playoffs, the latter being a record the “Great One” still holds.

U.S. Olympic gold medal winner Brock Nelson scored 82 seconds into 3-on-3 OT off a pass from Martin Necas, his 32nd goal of the season. Gabriel Landeskog and Nicolas Roy scored earlier for the Avalanche, who have won back-to-back games and on Friday became the first team this season to clinch a playoff spot.

Justin Sourdif also scored for the Capitals, whose two-game winning streak came to an end. It was Sourdif's 14th goal of his first season with Washington following a late-June trade from back-to-back Stanley Cup champion Florida.

Colorado's Mackenzie Blackwood stopped 20 of the 22 shots he faced to earn his 20th win of the season. Logan Thompson made 21 saves in the loss for Washington, which has three teams between it and the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

Capitals forward Ethen Frank suffered a lower-body injury in the first period, crashing into the net following a shove from Devon Toews. Frank skated off under his own power, went directly to the locker room and did not return.

NEW YORK (AP) — Washington forward Justin Champagnie and Oklahoma City guard Ajay Mitchell each received a one-game suspension for fighting and escalating an on-court altercation that spilled into the seating area during a game, the league announced Sunday.

Both were suspended without pay. Thunder forward Jaylin Williams was fined $50,000, while Oklahoma City guard Cason Wallace and Wizards forward Anthony Gill each received $35,000 fines for their roles in the altercation that took place late in the first half of the Thunder’s 132-111 victory on Saturday night.

Following a basket by Gill, Williams and Champagnie began shoving each other under the basket. Gill and Mitchell became involved and the quarrel quickly escalated. After a lengthy review by the officials, Champagnie, Williams, Mitchell and Wallace were all ejected.

Champagnie will sit out Sunday as the Wizards face the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden. Mitchell's suspension takes place Monday when Oklahoma City plays at Philadelphia.

ROME (AP) — Como took control of Serie A’s final Champions League spot by thrashing relegation-threatened Pisa 5-0 on Sunday for its fifth straight victory in Serie A.

The victory boosted Cesc Fabregas’ club three points clear of fifth-place Juventus, which was held to a 1-1 draw by Sassuolo on Saturday.

Como’s win came three days after one of Como’s owners, Indonesian tobacco billionaire Michael Bambang Hartono, died at 86.

Como returned to Serie A in 2024 for the first time in more than two decades.

KVITFJELL, Norway (AP) — Dominik Paris won his second race in two days Sunday as Italy went a perfect four-from-four at the World Cup finals.

A day after winning the downhill, Paris also was the fastest in the super-G, beating Austrians Vincent Kriechmayr by 0.07 and Raphael Haaser by 0.38 seconds.

“It's a surprise for me,” Paris said. “When I saw the green light at the finish line, I had to look twice because I couldn't believe it.”

Paris also won two World Cup races in one weekend in the Norwegian resort a year ago.

On the women’s side, Sofia Goggia and Laura Pirovano triumphed in the super-G and downhill races, respectively, and both secured the discipline title this weekend.

That, though, didn’t apply to Paris, as Swiss star Marco Odermatt had already been confirmed as the World Cup super-G and downhill champion a week ago, when he also locked up his fifth overall title.

Odermatt had a disappointing run in the last super-G of the season when he finished 1.97 seconds behind Paris in 19th, meaning he didn’t even score World Cup points.

“It’s always much cooler if you can collect another globe after a good performance, but today was my worst performance in many years,” he said.

Odermatt is the only skier with multiple super-G wins this season, and he singled out his triumph in Kitzbühel in January as his best one.

“It’s for me the biggest super-G we have on the World Cup tour, and to win there the second time now in a row was a really cool race for me, a lot of emotions,” said Odermatt, who added Olympic bronze a few weeks later.

The next men’s race at the finals is Tuesday’s giant slalom, where Odermatt can secure his fourth globe of the season. He leads the GS standings by 48 points over second-placed Lucas Pinheiro Braathen.

DORTMUND, Germany (AP) — Borussia Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl is leaving the team with immediate effect as the club undergoes a major shakeup after what will be a trophyless season.

Dortmund said Sunday Kehl and the club had “mutually agreed to end their collaboration” after reaching an “amicable” decision with management.

“The summer is the right time for a change. To allow both sides to prepare, we mutually agreed to an immediate termination of Sebastian’s contract,” managing director Lars Ricken said in a statement. “Sebastian and I also share a long history. We not only played together for Borussia Dortmund, but we also won the German championship together in 2002. Sebastian has made enormous contributions to our club.”

Kehl, a former team captain who helped lead Dortmund to back-to-back Bundesliga titles in 2011 and 2012, took over as the club’s director of licensed players in 2018 before he was promoted to sporting director in 2022.

“The departure of Sebastian Kehl naturally represents a significant change in our sporting leadership,” said Carsten Cramer, who took over as CEO from Hans-Joachim Watzke last October. “To facilitate the necessary changes for the upcoming season and also to give Sebastian time to consider the next steps in his professional career, this separation is the logical step at this time.”

Kehl, who joined Dortmund from Freiburg in January 2002, said it “has been a part of my life for half my life, and I have an extremely strong connection to this great club … Dortmund, the incredible stadium, and the Südtribüne (south stand) will always hold a special place in my heart. It has been an honor.”

ISLAMABAD (AP) — Pakistan’s premier domestic T20 league will take place in empty stadiums due to the recent spike in oil prices, a top official of the Pakistan Cricket Board said on Sunday.

The Pakistan Super League was set to be played in six cities, but now only Lahore and Karachi will be hosting the games with the opening encounter set to be played at Gaddadi Stadium in Lahore on Thursday.

Pakistan has faced soaring oil prices prompted by the US and Israeli attack on Iran and the subsequent spread of the conflict across the region. Pakistan’s government has asked its citizens to restrict their movement due to rising fuel prices.

“We don’t know how long this war will continue,” PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi said.

“We can’t ask people to restrict their movements and then have 30,000 people in stadiums every day. We decided that as long as this (oil) crisis is ongoing, we will not have crowds at matches. This was a difficult decision, but it needed to be made. The opening ceremony will also be cancelled.”

Naqvi said the PCB will issue refunds for all sold tickets within 72 hours and will also compensate franchise owners for the loss of revenue from gate receipts.

Naqvi apologized to the four cities – Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Multan and Peshawar – that will no longer host PSL games this season. “We have to restrict our movements and we do not want to waste our resources,” he said. “I especially apologize to Peshawar, which was due to host PSL games for the first time, (but) there will be no crowds anyway, so there was no reason to go to those cities.”

Naqvi said he consulted Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who is also the PCB patron, and the eight franchises before finalizing the decision to cut down the venues and stage the games in empty stadiums.

Several foreign players have pulled out of PSL due to personal reasons, including Australians Jake Fraser-McGurk and Spencer Johnson, South African Ottneil Baartman and Gudakesh Motie of the West Indies.

PHOENIX (AP) — The Phoenix Suns are one of the NBA's feel-good stories this season, having much more success than many anticipated after rebuilding their roster over the summer.

Suns CEO Josh Bartelstein says the best part is it's a team he actually enjoys watching.

Fans apparently agree with him.

The franchise had its 200th consecutive sellout crowd Saturday night, a 108-105 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks. It's the second-longest streak in franchise history and the fourth-longest in the NBA behind Miami, Golden State and Utah. Local TV ratings are up 64% compared to last season.

Even the current five-game losing streak can't completely dampen the mood. It's going to take more than a rough 10 days to derail the surprising momentum the Suns have built over the past few months.

“It's pride in building a team that makes the community, Suns fans, proud,” Bartelstein said. "That was the goal. It's a basketball city and they love the Suns. We knew if we built a team that resembled the grit, toughness, playing with joy, that this city deserves, with the talent we had and would bring, that we'd be fine.

“Sometimes you've got to go through some tough times to come out on the other side of it.”

The Suns' relative success — they fell to 39-32 after Saturday's loss — comes a year after one of the most disappointing seasons in franchise history. Last year's team was built around the so-called “Big 3” of 15-time All-Star Kevin Durant, Bradley Beal and Devin Booker while being led by veteran coach Mike Budenholzer, who won an NBA title with the Milwaukee Bucks in 2021.

But the Suns didn't even make the playoffs, finishing with a 36-46 record. Even worse, the team was a chore to watch, with spotty defensive effort and an offense that often turned stagnant, wasting the ample scoring power on the roster.

The crowds at Mortgage Matchup Center — once among the NBA's best — were becoming much more docile. They were still technically selling out games thanks to ticket sales from the high expectations at the beginning of the year, but some seats were empty and interest was fading fast.

It seemed as if the streak would end soon.

That's when owner Mat Ishbia, Bartelstein and newly hired general manager Brian Gregory decided on a new strategy. There would be no more star chasing. Sure, the Suns needed good players, but they also needed the right players, ones who would bring a more hard-nosed persona.

Durant was shipped to the Houston Rockets during the offseason for Jalen Green and Dillon Brooks. The latter has been particularly important to the team's culture change, averaging a career-high 20.9 points per game while providing an edgy presence that gets under the other team's skin.

Brooks has missed the past few weeks with a broken hand, but is expected to return fairly soon.

Beal was released during the offseason, leaving Booker as the team's unquestioned leader and the 29-year-old responded with the fifth All-Star appearance of his career. Budenholzer was fired and first-year coach Jordan Ott was hired.

So far, the moves have worked out quicker than expected.

The Suns are far from perfect, but with three weeks remaining in the regular season, the playoffs are a realistic goal. That's a win for a franchise that looked like as though it might be one of the league's worst teams back in October.

“It's one of the best stories in the NBA, if not the best,” Bartelstein said. “It's all fragile because the season's so long and we're banged up right now, but it's been a really fun season on the court.”

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Tyler Tanner was inches away from March Madness immortality.

After Nebraska's Braden Frager made a driving layup with 2.2 seconds left to give the Cornhuskers a two-point lead over Vanderbilt in a second-round NCAA Tournament thriller on Saturday night, Tanner had no choice but to chuck one toward the basket.

His heave from beyond half court was on target. The ball crashed off the center of the backboard and dropped halfway below the rim — and then, somehow, it rattled out, and Nebraska escaped with a 74-72 victory.

“My heart sank as that ball went in the hoop and went out,” Nebraska guard Sam Hoiberg said. “I think it took me a half a second to register it didn’t go in, and then I just screamed in elation. I thought it was in.”

Nebraska's Pryce Sandfort summed it up: “I just about died.”

Instead, Nebraska advanced to the Sweet 16 for the first time in program history.

Tanner, a 6-foot sophomore, scored 27 points in front of a hostile crowd of scarlet-and-cream-clad Nebraska supporters who made the roughly 6 1/2-hour drive from Lincoln.

And for a split second, he thought he would send them home in stunned silence.

“It hurts pretty bad being that close, especially (in a) hard-fought game,” he said.

Tanner made 9 of 21 field goals and had four steals and four assists.

“That last shot, man, it just took my breath away,” Nebraska coach Fred Hoiberg said. “That kid is an unbelievable player. When that thing was up in the air, I was, like, ‘Oh, man, that’s going in.’ Then hit every part of the rim. Thankfully bounced out, and we’re looking forward to next week.”

All because of a ball that went part of the way, but somehow not all the way, through the hoop.

“The hardest thing when you’re in a tournament like this is there’s a side of it with hurt and dejection, and you put everything into it,” Vanderbilt coach Mark Byington said. “We were a play away, an inch away, from being in the Sweet 16.”

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) — Beau Leroux scored in first-half stoppage time and Daniel De Sousa Britto made it stand as the San Jose Earthquakes cooled off Vancouver with a 1-0 victory on Saturday night, ruining the start of a five-match homestand for the Whitecaps.

Leroux scored unassisted in the second minute of stoppage time to give the Earthquakes (4-1-0) the lead for good. Leroux's first goal this season comes after scoring five times in 33 matches as a rookie last year.

Daniel finished with six saves in posting his fourth clean sheet in five starts this season and his 15th in 68 career starts — all with the Earthquakes. He's never had more than five in one season.

Yohei Takaoka saved one shot on goal for the Whitecaps (4-1-0), who outscored their opponents 14-1 in winning their first four matches.

Vancouver falls into a second-place tie with San Jose, one point behind Los Angeles FC in a hotly-contested Western Conference that boasts seven teams with at least three victories through the first five weeks.

The Earthquakes also evened the series at 13-13-12.

Vancouver entered the match with a 20-4-7 all-time record at BC Place under head coach Jesper Sørensen.

St. Louis City was the last team to open with five straight victories — doing so in its 2023 expansion. season.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Cearah Parchment scored 21 points as seventh-seeded Illinois beat No. 10 seed Colorado 66-57 on Saturday night in the first round of the women's NCAA Tournament.

The Fighting Illini (22-11) are the youngest team in this tournament after replacing four starters, and they now have won a first-round game for a second straight season. Illinois will play No. 2 seed Vanderbilt, a 102-61 winner over No. 15 seed High Point, on Monday night for a berth in the Sweet 16 of the Fort Worth 1 Region.

Berry Wallace added 18 points for Illinois, and Destiny Jackson grabbed 11 rebounds and scored 11 of her 16 points in the fourth quarter to help seal the win.

Colorado (22-12) won four of the first seven games between these programs, but this was the first for these programs to play since 2013 and first in the NCAA Tournament. The Buffaloes missed their last five shots going scoreless from the floor after Jade Masogayo's layup with 4:08 left.

Desiree Wooten led Colorado with 17 points, and Masogayo added 15.

Illinois outscored Colorado 20-18 to lead after the first quarter and used six straight late in the second to help take a 34-29 lead into halftime.

Masogayo's layup pulled Colorado within 38-36 with 7:30 left in the third. Then Illinois reeled off seven straight with Wallace's two free throws giving the Fighting Illini their biggest lead at 45-36. Colorado wound up outscoring Illinois 15-13 in the third, and Wooten's layup pulled the Buffaloes within 47-44 to start the fourth.

Then one of the Fighting Illini's freshman took over. Jackson scored seven of the first nine points for Illinois, and her 3-pointer pushed the lead to 56-50.

Long time coming

Illinois improved to 10-10 in this tournament, and this was the Fighting Illini's third berth in four years under coach Shauna Green and 11th all-time. Now Illinois has NCAA wins in consecutive seasons for the first time since the 1998-99 and 1999-2000 seasons.

That's when the program had a four-season streak of winning at least once in this tournament dating back to 1996-97.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Steven Stamkos had two goals and an assist to lead the Nashville Predators to a 4-1 win over the Vegas Golden Knights on Saturday.

Stamkos opened the scoring 40 seconds in and added a power-play goal in the first two minutes of the second period as Nashville raced to an early three-goal lead. Tyson Jost and Ryan O’Reilly also scored for the Predators, who won their third straight and for the fourth time in six games. Justus Annunen made 39 saves and improved to 8-9-2.

With his second goal of the game, the 36-year-old Stamkos broke a tie with Brendan Shanahan and moved into sole possession of seventh place in the NHL with 238 career power-play goals. Phil Esposito is sixth overall with 246 man-advantage goals. Stamkos has 33 goals and 55 points this season.

Shea Theodore scored for Vegas, which lost its third in a row and for the sixth time in eight games. Akira Schmid stopped 16 shots.

Vegas carried the play throughout, outshooting Nashville 40-20. But, the Predators made the most of their shots with leads of 3-0 and 4-1 in the second period. The Golden Knights had a 20-4 edge in shots in the first period and a 10-5 advantage in the scoreless third.

Stamkos scored in the opening minute after Ryan O’Reilly won a faceoff and delivered a perfect feed in the slot.

Stamkos scored his 33 of the season on the power play at 1:24 of the second, with assists going to Filip Forsberg and Erik Haula. Tyson Jost made it 3-0 with the Predators’ third short-handed goal of the season at 11:56. O’Reilly has the team’s other short-handed scores this season.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Sidney Crosby and Rickard Rakell scored in a shootout and Pittsburgh beat Winnipeg.

Pittsburgh, which is jockeying for playoff positioning, earned an extra point in the shootout for the second time this season. The Penguins have points in seven of their last eight games and 21 of their last 25.

Arturs Silovs, who made 21 saves, stopped Jonathan Toews and Gustav Nyquist in the shootout.

Erik Karlsson scored two goals and has five in his last three games. Karlsson, who has four straight multi-point games, now has seven goals and 19 points in his last 12 games.

Egor Chinakhov earned his 100th NHL point with a goal and Rakell scored to continue a career-best eight-game point streak.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Vladimir Tarasenko scored 3:06 into overtime and Minnesota beat Dallas in what could be a first-round playoff preview.

Bobby Brink also scored and Filip Gustavsson made 28 saves for the Wild, improving to 9-2-0 in his past 11 starts.

It is Minnesota’s second win in six games, a stretch that included three straight home losses. The Wild are in third place in the Central Division — five points behind Dallas and 14 up on Utah.

Jason Robertson scored and Jake Oettinger stopped 26 shots for Dallas. The Stars moved within three points of Colorado, which clinched a playoff spot on Friday. Dallas is 1-1-1 in their last three games after a 14-0-1 run. Dallas beat the Avalanche 2-1 Wednesday in a shootout.

In overtime, a bounce off the half wall went to Brink, who quickly sent a pass across to Tarasenko alone in the right circle. His wrist shot found the far top corner and the Wild won its 15th game that has gone to extra time. Minnesota has played an NHL-high 28 overtime games.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Zach Benson had a goal and an assist and Buffalo continued their white-hot play with a win over Los Angeles.

Tage Thompson, Sam Carrick and Rasmus Dahlin also scored for the Sabres.

Carrick and Dahlin scored 59 seconds apart midway through the third period, and Benson added an empty-netter to give the Sabres their fourth straight win and 12th in the past 13 outings. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made 26 saves.

Buoyed by significant and vocal support despite being the visitors, the Sabres continued their push for an Atlantic Division title as they are on their way to ending a 14-year playoff drought, the longest in the NHL.

Artemi Panarin scored, picking up a point for the fifth straight game. Anze Kopitar tied Marcel Dionne for the Kings franchise record for points on home ice, and Anton Forsberg made 28 saves.

Los Angeles came into the day as the second wild card in the Western Conference but dropped behind the Nashville Predators, who won 4-1 over the Vegas Golden Knights.

FLYERS 4, SHARKS 1

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — Christian Dvorak scored a tiebreaking goal early in the third period and added an assist, Dan Vladar made 24 saves and Philadelphia beat San Jose to complete a three-game West Coast sweep.

Owen Tippett scored in the second period and defenseman Travis Sanheim and Noah Cates added empty-net goals in the final two minutes as the Flyers won their third straight and for the fifth time in six games. Philly was coming off a 3-2 overtime win over Anaheim on Wednesday and 4-3 shootout victory over Los Angeles on Thursday. The Flyers completed a California sweep for the second time in franchise history and extended their road winning streak to seven games.

Dmitry Orlov scored for San Jose, which lost its fourth in a row and for the seventh time in nine games. Alex Nedeljkovic stopped 24 of 26 shots.

After a scoreless first period, Tippett got the Flyers on the board with his 24th of the season 2:26 into the second. Tippett took a pass from Trevor Zegras, got past the Sharks’ Nick Leddy and beat Nedeljkovic with a shot to the glove side.

Orlov evened the score with his third of the season on a power play at 13:12 with a shot from the slot off a feed from William Eklund. Macklin Celebrini also assisted.

Dvorak put the Flyers ahead 1:47 into the third, scoring on the power play after San Jose’s Mario Ferraro was sent off for roughing. The assists went to Travis Konecny and Matvei Michkov, who picked up the 100th point of his NHL career.

BLUE JACKETS 5, KRAKEN 2

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Columbus scored three times in the first period and beat Seattle, extending the Blue Jackets’ point streak to 12 games.

Danton Heinen, Damon Severson and Mathieu Olivier scored in the opening frame, and Zach Werenski assisted on all three. Cole Sillinger had a goal and two assists, Kent Johnson added a goal, and Elvis Merzlikins made 15 saves as Columbus won its fourth straight.

Kaapo Kakko had a goal and an assist, and Vince Dunn also scored for Seattle, which has lost three straight and fell two points behind Nashville for the final Western Conference wild-card spot. Joey Daccord stopped 23 shots.

MONTREAL (AP) — Cole Caufield scored three goals to push his season total to 43 and added two assists to help Montreal beat New York.

Caufield is second in the NHL in goals, two behind Colorado star Nathan MacKinnon.

The Canadiens are third in the Atlantic Division, while the Islanders are a point behind Detroit for the second wild card in the tight Eastern Conference.

Juraj Slafkovsky had two goals and two assists, and Nick Suzuki had four assists to bring his season total to 61. Kaiden Guhle added a goal and two assists, Alex Newhook also scored and Jacob Fowler made 19 saves.

OTTAWA, Ontario (AP) — Ottawa had a dominant game against their provincial rivals beating Toronto.

Anthony Stolarz was expected to get the start but took a puck to the throat during warm-ups and was sent to hospital for precautionary imaging putting Joseph Woll back in action. Woll had faced 36 shots in a 4-3 overtime loss to Carolina on Friday night.

Tim Stutzle, Claude Giroux, Warren Foegele, Michael Amadio and Ridly Greig scored for Ottawa. Tyler Kleven and Jordan Spence added two assists each, and Woll stopped 38 shots.

John Tavares and Easton Cowan scored for the Maple Leafs, who were without captain Auston Matthews who had knee surgery on Thursday. Linus Ullmark made 12 saves.

BLUES 3, CANUCKS 1

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) — Pius Suter and Pavel Buchnevich scored in a 1:19 span in the second period and St. Louis beat NHL-worst Vancouver to end a two-game losing streak.

St. Louis is six points behind Nashville for the final wild-card playoff berth in the Western Conference. The Blues have are 7-1-2 in their last 10.

Jordan Kyrou scored into an empty net on a power play with 48 seconds left to seal it. Jordan Binnington stopped 14 shots for St. Louis, allowing only defenseman Filip Hronek’s third-period goal on a power play.

Kevin Lankinen made 18 saves for the Canucks.

BRUINS 4, RED WINGS 2

DETROIT (AP) — Defenseman Nikita Zadorov broke a tie at 9:42 of the third period and Boston beat Detroit in an Eastern Conference wild-card showdown.

Jeremy Swayman made 41 saves to help Boston move two points ahead of Detroit for the first wild-card spot. David Pastrnak, Elias Lindholm and Marat Khusnutdinov also scored for the Bruins.

Lucas Raymond and Alex DeBrincat scored for Detroit. John Gibson stopped 23 shots.

Zadorov put the Bruins ahead with a long wrist shot that seemed to surprise Gibson as it sailed past his blocker. The defenseman has two goals this season.

DALLAS (AP) — Darius Garland scored a season-high 41 points, Kawhi Leonard added 34 with a tying bucket late in regulation and the Los Angeles Clippers beat Dallas 138-131 in overtime on Saturday night, extending the Mavericks’ longest home losing streak in 32 years to 11 games.

Derrick Jones Jr. scored 15 points with a pair of 3-pointers in the extra period, and Garland had 11 assists as the Clippers ended a four-game skid that followed a four-game winning streak.

Los Angeles pulled even with Portland for eighth in the Western Conference. Both teams are safely in the mix for the play-in tournament.

Naji Marshall scored 28 points for the Mavericks, who are on their longest skid at the 25-year old American Airlines Center. Dallas had home losing streaks of 19 and 12 games during the 1993-94 season at since-demolished Reunion Arena.

Marshall's steal and assist for P.J. Washington's dunk put Dallas ahead 122-120, but Leonard scored after a timeout to get the Clippers even with 19 seconds to go.

Cooper Flagg, who scored 18 points, missed a jumper in the final seconds, and Washington was just late when he swished a jumper after grabbing an offensive rebound. Washington scored 21 points.

Garland also had a season high with eight 3-pointers, the last following one from Jones that put Los Angeles ahead for good at 125-124 in overtime. A bucket from Leonard and another 3 from Jones put the Clippers up by nine.

Leonard, who has alternated between playing and sitting over the past four games while nursing a sprained left ankle, played 36 minutes, including all of overtime.

Flagg, the rookie No. 1 pick, had nine rebounds and seven assists while matching his season high with four blocked shots.

GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) — Duke has starting big man Patrick Ngongba II back just in time for the No. 1 overall seed's run to the Sweet 16 of March Madness.

The 6-foot-11, 250-pound Ngongba returned to the lineup for Saturday's 81-58 second-round win over TCU in the NCAA Tournament's East Region. He had missed five straight games due to soreness in his right foot, an ailment that had him sporting a protective boot and using a knee scooter.

Ngongba came off the bench Saturday and played 13 minutes, finishing with four points, four rebounds, four assists and one block.

“I mean, I felt good,” Ngongba said. “I felt tired at some points in the game. but that's as expected.”

Ngongba hadn't played since he started feeling soreness in a win at N.C. State in early March. That sidelined him for the regular-season finale against North Carolina, three Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament games and then Thursday's NCAA opener against Siena.

Coach Jon Scheyer initially said the plan was for Ngongba to be back for the start of the NCAAs. After he missed the Siena game, Scheyer said he was hopeful Ngongba would be ready for TCU but he remained questionable entering Saturday.

Ngongba got a loud cheer from Duke fans as he hopped up to the scorer's table to check in at the 16:14 mark of the game. And he had a quick basket that highlighted the value of his space-eating presence, coming when he turned on Liutauras Lelevicius and muscled him down to the block to score inside before TCU's David Punch could get there to attempt a block from behind.

But Ngongba also had three of Duke's five first-half turnovers in sign that he was still catching up to game speed.

Ngongba is averaging 10.7 points and 6.0 rebounds, playing alongside star freshman Cameron Boozer and helping the Blue Devils use an inside-out approach that has often overwhelmed opponents. He's capable of attacking the rim (1.1 blocks) and passing out of double-teams (1.9 assists) while helping the Blue Devils routinely beat teams on the glass and outscore them in the paint.

Beyond his individual impact, Ngongba's return also means less time that Boozer has to slide over to the center position instead of operating more as the 4-man.

It's why Scheyer said Ngongba's return makes the Blue Devils “more whole” as they head to the nation's capital for next week's regional rounds.

“For Pat to come back to this game was not easy by any means,” Scheyer said. “He was fighting like crazy.”

CHESTER, Pa. (AP) — Hugo Cuypers scored a goal for the fourth consecutive game, Jonathan Bamba also scored a goal, and the Chicago Fire beat the Philadelphia Union 2-1 on Saturday.

Chris Brady had three saves for the Fire (2-2-1).

Philadelphia (0-5-0), which won the 2025 Supporter's Shield, extended its club record for consecutive losses to open a season five. Andre Blake stopped to shots for the Union.

Robin Lob lofted an entry pass from the right side to the back post, where Bamba slammed home a volley that gave Chicago a 2-1 lead in the 58th minute.

Cuypers scored his fourth goal of the season in the third minute of first-half stoppage time that gave Chicago a 1-0 lead, but Milan Iloski answered with a header for his first goal of the season about four minutes later that made it 1-1 at halftime.

Malik Jakupovic, a 16-year-old forward, made his MLS debut for the Union when he replaced Cavan Sullivan in the 62nd minute.

Chicago’s Philip Zinckernagel left the game (concussion protocol) and was replaced by Maren Haile-Selassie after a collision with the Union’s Jesús Bueno in the 31st minute.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Oklahoma’s Jaylin Williams and Washington’s Justin Champagnie were ejected following an altercation late in the first half of the matchup between the Thunder and Wizards on Saturday night.

Following a basket by Washington’s Anthony Gill, Williams and Champagnie began shoving each other under the basket. Gill and Oklahoma City’s Ajay Mitchell became involved and the altercation quickly escalated and spilled into the seating area behind the basket before order was restored.

After a lengthy review by the officials, Champagnie and Williams each received two technical fouls and were ejected. Mitchell and Cason Wallace of the Thunder each received one technical foul and were also ejected.

North Carolina athletic director Bubba Cunningham said Saturday the school is evaluating “all facets” of its tradition-rich men's basketball program after another early exit from the NCAA Tournament under Hubert Davis.

Cunningham said in a statement he is working with UNC chancellor Lee Roberts and executive associate AD Steve Newmark — who will take over as Cunningham's successor in the coming months — in that review.

“Every year at the end of the season, it’s important to evaluate all facets of the program and look for ways to improve,” Cunningham said. "The chancellor, Steve and I are doing that together now and will continue to have discussions over the coming days.”

Davis closed his fifth season Thursday as successor to retired Hall of Fame coach Roy Williams with an overtime loss to VCU in the South Region, coming after the Rams rallied from 19 down for the biggest comeback in first-round history.

The program with six NCAA titles and a national-record 21 Final Fours now has just three March Madness wins in the four seasons since an unexpected run to the 2022 national title game in Davis' debut season. That includes reaching the round of 32 only once in that span, a Sweet 16 appearance two years ago as a No. 1 seed that lost in an upset to Alabama.

Davis signed a two-year extension last season running through 2029-30. The school would owe Davis $5 million in base salary payments for the remaining years of his deal plus, additional payments for the remaining months of the 2025-26 season.

BRADENTON, Fla. (AP) — The Pittsburgh Pirates debut for highly touted 19-year-old prospect Konnor Griffin will have to wait.

Griffin was reassigned to minor league camp on Saturday after the shortstop spent the last few weeks showcasing the skills that have made him baseball’s No. 1 overall prospect, according to MLB Pipeline.

Manager Don Kelly called the decision to leave Griffin off the season-opening roster “extremely difficult.”

“The talent that you see, I think he handled himself really well professionally,” Kelly told reporters. “We talk about the maturity level as a 19-year-old in big league camp. Really excited about him being a Pirate and what that means for the future of Konnor Griffin and the Pirates.”

Griffin homered four times and had nine RBIs in 16 Grapefruit League games, but he batted just .171 and struck out 13 times in 41 at-bats. After Griffin garnered so much attention this spring because of his status as one of the game’s top prospects, Kelly believed a return to the minors could allow the infielder to reassert himself.

“I think you see a young kid that was maybe pressing just a little bit and trying really hard,” Kelly said. “Konnor Griffin the person is elite. Allowing him to go and get back to basics and being Konnor Griffin out there (could help). We know there’s an elite talent level that comes with him. Just looking forward to him being in Pittsburgh whenever that time comes.”

SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP) — Veteran reliever Ryan Brasier has been released by the Texas Rangers.

The Rangers announced Saturday they had granted the 38-year-old right-hander his release.

Brasier went 0-1 with a 4.50 ERA in 28 appearances with the Chicago Cubs last season. He owns a 10-9 record with a 3.90 ERA and 10 saves in his nine year career.

His career has included stints with the Los Angeles Angels (2013), Boston Red Sox (2018-23), Los Angeles Dodgers (2023-24) and Cubs (2025).

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — The Washington Nationals released right-handed pitcher Drew Smith on Saturday.

Smith, 32, had signed a minor league deal with an invitation to major league camp after missing the entire 2025 season to recover from Tommy John surgery. He went 1-1 with a 3.06 ERA and two saves in 19 relief appearances with the New York Mets in 2024.

Smith has gone 12-13 with a 3.48 ERA and five saves in 191 career games, all with the Mets.

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (AP) — New York Mets left-hander Sean Manaea will open the season working out of the bullpen rather than having a spot in the starting rotation.

Manager Carlos Mendoza told reporters Saturday that Manaea would have a “piggyback” role in which he immediately follows a starter the first couple of times the team goes through its rotation.

“We have six guys throwing the ball really well,” Mendoza said. “We were pretty honest with all of them at the beginning of camp. If everyone was healthy, we were going to have to make some tough decisions, and one of them was going to be pitching in that type of role.”

The Mets plan to open the season with a starting rotation of Freddy Peralta, David Peterson, Nolan McLean, Clay Holmes and Koda Senga. The Mets had a surplus of candidates after acquiring Peralta from the Milwaukee Brewers in January.

The 34-year-old Manaea has started in 210 of his 243 career regular-season appearances. He signed a $75 million, 3-year contract after going 12-6 with a 3.47 ERA and finishing 11th in the NL Cy Young Award balloting in 2024, but he followed that up by going 2-4 with a 5.64 ERA last season.

Mendoza noted the Mets probably wouldn’t need a sixth starter the first couple of times through their schedule because they have more off days than usual.

“We don’t feel like we need a sixth starter yet,” Mendoza said. “He’s going to make starts for us.”

BELFAST, Northern Ireland (AP) — Irish boxer Michael Conlan, who famously gestured at 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games judges with his middle fingers, said he plans to retire without achieving his dream of becoming a world champion.

The 34-year-old Belfast featherweight lost a 10-round split decision to undefeated Kevin Walsh at the SSE Arena on Friday night.

Conlan, the favorite, had hoped a victory would get him a shot at WBC featherweight champion Bruce “Shu Shu” Carrington.

“I want to walk away now, my health intact, my family good. I’ve done really well in boxing,” a bruised Conlan told reporters with his wife and two children seated next to him.

“I’ve achieved an awful lot. Did I reach my goal of being a world champion? No. That’s the hardest part about it all.”

One judge scored the bout 97-93 for Conlan (20-4), and the two others scored it 96-94 for Walsh (20-0), a native of Brockton — the same Massachusetts city that produced Rocky Marciano and Marvelous Marvin Hagler.

“I always said the next defeat — no matter the situation or no matter the circumstances — that would be me finished with boxing, and it has come,” Conlan said.

“I thought I won, but listen it is what it is. I don't want to do it no more. It's time to say goodbye to boxing.”

Conlan fought for the IBF world featherweight title in 2023, losing to Luis Alberto Lopez in a fifth-round stoppage.

Bronze in London, rant in Rio

Conlan won a bronze medal for Ireland at the 2012 London Olympics and became an amateur world champion three years later but made bigger headlines at the 2016 Rio Games, where he lost on a controversial split decision in a bantamweight quarterfinal to Russian Vladimir Nikitin.

Conlan went on an expletive-laden rant on live television after the loss, including raising his middle fingers as he faced the judges.

In 2021, an investigator appointed by the International Boxing Association found that medal bouts in boxing at the 2016 Games were fixed by “complicit and compliant” referees and judges. The report didn’t offer a verdict on whether the result of the Conlan-Nikitin fight was fixed.

In the pro ranks, Conlan beat Nikitin by unanimous decision in 2019.

“I’ve done really well but I’ve never achieved the goal of being a world champion,” Conlan said Saturday. “There is relief. Now I get to spend time with my family...

“It’s just not meant to be, and that’s it.”

BRIGHTON, England (AP) — Liverpool striker Hugo Ekitike lasted less than eight minutes before hobbling off with a left leg injury in the Premier League game against Brighton on Saturday.

The France international was hurt in a challenge by Brighton midfielder James Milner in the third minute. After receiving treatment, he tried to run it off but couldn't continue and was replaced by Curtis Jones.

Ekitike was selected in France's latest squad ahead of friendlies against Brazil and Colombia in the United States.

Liverpool was already without the injured Mohamed Salah and Alisson Becker.
