Kerala Tourism Unveils a Fresh Lineup of Experiential Products, Offering Authentic Cultural Immersion and Eco-Friendly Travel for Holiday Season Travelers

Kerala Tourism Unveils a Fresh Lineup of Experiential Products, Offering Authentic Cultural Immersion and Eco-Friendly Travel for Holiday Season Travelers

Kerala Tourism is set to captivate both domestic and international travelers this holiday season with a fresh array of experiential products. These new offerings, introduced during the ‘Network Kerala’ B2B Tourism Meet in Okhla, aim to provide an immersive travel experience that highlights the state’s diverse cultural heritage, stunning landscapes, and world-renowned hospitality. This strategic initiative is designed to reposition Kerala as more than just a scenic destination, focusing on deeper connections with the local culture and traditions.

As part of a broader marketing shift, Kerala Tourism is emphasizing its potential as a year-round destination. Beyond its famous backwaters and lush greenery, the state is now inviting visitors to connect with its people, heritage, and lifestyle, offering a richer and more meaningful travel experience.

A Focus on Year-Round Tourism

To strengthen its position as a year-round destination, Kerala’s government has increased the tourism budget by 20%, directing a significant portion of the funds toward marketing and promotional activities both within India and internationally. The goal is to attract travelers throughout the year, ensuring Kerala remains an appealing option beyond the traditional peak seasons.

In 2024, Kerala saw impressive tourism numbers, with 21.87 million domestic tourists visiting the state. The number of international visitors also surged to 738,374, marking a notable 13.76% increase from the previous year. These figures reflect the growing global appeal of Kerala, driven by its blend of natural beauty, cultural richness, and hospitality.

Experiential Travel Takes Center Stage

Kerala Tourism’s latest promotional campaigns highlight the state as a 365-day destination, catering especially to urban families looking for wholesome and restorative vacations. Kerala offers a wealth of experiences, from wellness retreats and Ayurvedic treatments to houseboat cruises, pristine beaches, wildlife exploration, and more. These diverse activities are designed to help visitors unwind, reconnect with nature, and bond with loved ones in a tranquil setting.

To further expand its reach, Kerala Tourism has enhanced its digital presence, with the tourism website now available in Hindi. This expansion aims to attract tourists from northern India, a rapidly growing market for Kerala. Kerala’s tourism website has already achieved recognition as the most visited state tourism portal in India for 2024-2025, highlighting the effectiveness of its targeted digital campaigns.

Innovative Products to Enhance the Visitor Experience

In addition to its traditional offerings, Kerala Tourism is introducing several new products to cater to the evolving needs of modern travelers. Among the latest offerings are wellness retreats, plantation visits, heritage tours, countryside stays, adventure sports, and Ayurveda-based wellness packages. These experiences are designed to immerse visitors in Kerala’s authentic culture, giving them a deeper understanding of the state’s traditions and way of life.

A key highlight is Kerala’s foray into heli-tourism, allowing travelers to experience the state’s spectacular landscapes from above. The state is also expanding its Responsible Tourism Mission, integrating local communities into the tourism experience. This initiative aims to create more sustainable and inclusive tourism practices that benefit both visitors and the local population.

In addition, Kerala is focusing on high-value tourism segments like destination weddings and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions). The state hosted a Wedding and MICE Conclave earlier this year in Kochi, attracting international event planners and showcasing Kerala as a prime destination for large-scale events and weddings.

Investing in Sustainability and Eco-Friendly Infrastructure

In line with its growing tourism sector, Kerala is placing a strong emphasis on sustainability and eco-friendly infrastructure. The state is implementing green building practices and prioritizing energy-efficient technologies in both public spaces and hospitality venues. These efforts reflect Kerala’s commitment to environmental stewardship and ensuring that tourism growth does not come at the expense of the state’s natural resources.

Kerala’s tourism infrastructure is being revamped with a focus on minimizing its ecological footprint. From waste management initiatives to sustainable architecture, the state is working to balance growth with environmental responsibility. This commitment to sustainable tourism further strengthens Kerala’s image as a responsible and eco-conscious destination.

Looking Ahead: The Future of Kerala Tourism

With its new experiential products, focus on sustainability, and ongoing investments in infrastructure, Kerala is poised to remain one of India’s top travel destinations. The peak tourism season, from November to January, continues to attract large numbers of both domestic and international travelers, and Kerala is optimistic about its growth in the coming years.

The combination of innovative offerings, sustainable practices, and a year-round tourism strategy positions Kerala to capitalize on increasing global travel demand. As Kerala surpasses pre-pandemic tourism numbers, the state is confident that its continued efforts will drive further growth in the sector.

Kerala offers more than just stunning landscapes—it provides an opportunity for travelers to immerse themselves in authentic experiences, connect with local culture, and explore its rich heritage. With these new initiatives, Kerala is committed to providing visitors with an unforgettable experience, ensuring that travelers leave with lasting memories of this unique destination.

Cioccolandia: The Sweet Festival Returns to Castel San Giovanni

Cioccolandia: The Sweet Festival Returns to Castel San Giovanni

The town of Castel San Giovanni in the Piacenza area is set to host the 21st edition of Cioccolandia, a celebration of all things chocolate. This year marks a special milestone as the event has been officially recognized as a Quality Festival, a title awarded in March 2025. The festival’s unique charm, driven by its commitment to high-quality offerings, has successfully attracted visitors from across Northern Italy, making it a standout example of local promotion.

The two-day festival will take place on November 8th and 9th, from 9:00 AM to 6:30 PM each day. The official inauguration will take place on Saturday at 2:30 PM, at Piazza XX Settembre, near the new Town Hall. However, festival-goers can begin enjoying the event earlier, as the stands will open at 9:00 AM.

Tourist Attractions and Local Highlights

Cioccolandia provides a wonderful experience for visitors, drawing crowds eager to sample local delights and artisanal creations. The heart of the event will be Piazza XX Settembre, where sixteen master chocolatiers from all over Italy will showcase their skills. The festival emphasizes artisanal craftsmanship, with each chocolate piece crafted by passionate chocolatiers. These producers treat chocolate not just as a product, but as a form of art, and their works are sure to leave visitors in awe.

In addition to the chocolatiers, Castel San Giovanni will host local merchants, volunteer associations, and the Committee for Life in the Historic Center, all of which support the event every year. These collaborations demonstrate that Cioccolandia is truly a community-driven initiative, deeply rooted in the town’s spirit. Visitors will enjoy the sweet scent of chocolate wafting through the streets, as various stalls, local businesses, and volunteer groups line the main areas, including Piazza XX Settembre, Corso Matteotti, Via Verdi, and Via Mazzini.

A Sweet Experience for All Ages

For those with a sweet tooth, the festival has a wide array of treats. On Saturday, visitors can enjoy the famous Torta Rita in Piazza XX Settembre, and the iconic 24-meter chocolate salami along Via Verdi. Sunday brings even more indulgence, with profiteroles available in Piazza XX Settembre and, of course, more chocolate salami. These delicious specialties will be prepared by volunteers from the Castellana Pro Loco association, with chocolate sourced from Bardini Cioccolaterie, the official partner.

A unique feature of the event is its token-based system. Each token costs €1 and can be used to sample various desserts at the festival. Visitors can purchase tokens at the Pro Loco gazebos, with each color of token corresponding to a specific dessert, allowing for a customized tasting experience.

Entertainment and Family Activities

Cioccolandia is not just for chocolate lovers but also for families and children. In Piazza Cardinal Casaroli, Cioccobimbi returns with a variety of fun activities designed for younger attendees. The event will feature three shifts of creative workshops and games starting at 3:00 PM each day, offering a hands-on, sweet experience for kids.

For those interested in the culinary arts, renowned cooking professor Daniele Persegani will host a live cooking show on both Saturday and Sunday, starting at 2:30 PM. The show will highlight Piacenza’s local specialties, with a twist of creativity. These sessions will be broadcast on giant screens, allowing everyone to enjoy Persegani’s culinary magic, and attendees can sample his creations for free.

A Community Affair with Local Involvement

The event continues to strengthen its ties with the local community. The Castel San Giovanni Primary School will display creative projects by young students, while the Moto Club Val Tidone will offer a thrilling experience for children, allowing them to try out minibikes on a specially designed track. Classic motorcycle enthusiasts will enjoy the “Due Tempi Bei Tempi” exhibition on Via Mazzini, featuring vintage motorcycles.

Fabrizio Sclavi’s continued collaboration with the event will bring artistic flair, with beautiful posters and laminated placemats available for purchase. Proceeds will go to the “Centro Emma Serena,” a local youth center. The community spirit is also seen in the festival’s partnership with the Oratory of San Filippo Neri, which provides refreshments for volunteers working throughout the event.

Cioccolandia: A Key Tourism Attraction

Cioccolandia has evolved into a major tourism event for Castel San Giovanni and the surrounding Piacenza area. It draws visitors from across the region and contributes to the local economy by showcasing the town’s charm and artisanal culture. This year’s event, now officially a Quality Festival, reflects the dedication of the Pro Loco and the collective effort of local organizations. It’s a clear demonstration of how such local festivals can promote tourism and boost the cultural image of a town.

Bluesky Introduces Dislikes as The Platform Hits 40 Million Users

3 November 2025 at 19:29

Microblogging social network app Bluesky last week announced a big milestone: 40 million users. Today, the company is bringing new experiments primarily built around the notion of “social proximity.” Bluesky is bringing in “Dislikes,” which will serve as a signal for the kinds of posts you don’t want in your Discover feed. Besides this, there are a host of other experiments to improve conversations on the platform.

Bluesky hits 40 million users milestone

Days after hitting 40 million users, Bluesky is adding new tools. Bluesky says it will use the dislikes option as a new feedback signal to improve user personalization. When users dislike posts, the system will learn what sort of posts you’d prefer to see less of. This could also affect reply ranking, reducing the visibility of low-quality replies.

Bluesky says that Dislikes are private and the signal isn’t global, mainly affecting your own experience and, to some extent, others in your “social neighborhood.” The beta testing of dislikes will start soon.

Improved toxic detection

The company notes that it’s testing a mix of ranking updates, design changes, and new feedback tools. These improve the quality of conversations and “give people more control over their experience.” The company is prioritizing replies from people closer to your neighborhood. This can apparently make conversations feel more relevant and familiar.

Bluesky says the latest model does a better job at detecting replies that are toxic, spammy, off-topic, or posted in bad faith. It says that posts that cross the line are down-ranked in reply threads, search results, and notifications. This will reduce their visibility while keeping conversations open for “good-faith discussion.”

Refreshed reply settings

While the platform already offers ways to limit replies to only people who follow you, it’s now building on that. Bluesky is testing a small change to how the “Reply” button works on top-level posts. Instead of jumping straight into the composer, it now takes you to the full thread first. It believes that this will encourage users to read before replying.

The company is also tweaking the reply settings feature to make it more visible to users. This should give users more control over who can reply and shape their own conversations. Lastly, Bluesky notes that it’ll keep refining these systems and “measuring their impact” on how people experience. These changes join the emoji reactions and a new Explore page that were introduced in April.

OpenAI’s $38B cloud deal with Amazon takes ChatGPT maker further beyond Microsoft

3 November 2025 at 19:47

ChatGPT maker OpenAI, exercising newfound freedom under its renegotiated Microsoft partnership, will expand its cloud footprint for training and running AI models to Amazon’s infrastructure under a new seven-year, $38 billion agreement.

The deal, announced Monday, positions Amazon as a major infrastructure provider for Microsoft’s flagship AI partner, highlighting seemingly insatiable demand for computing power and increasingly complex alliances among big companies seeking to capitalize on AI.

It comes as Microsoft, Amazon, and big tech companies attempt to reassure investors who’ve grown concerned about a possible bubble in AI spending and infrastructure investment.

Under its new Amazon deal, OpenAI is slated to begin running AI workloads on Amazon Web Services’ new EC2 UltraServers, which use hundreds of thousands of Nvidia GPUs. Amazon says the infrastructure will help to run ChatGPT and train future OpenAI models.

Amazon shares rose nearly 5% in early trading after the announcement.

“Scaling frontier AI requires massive, reliable compute,” said OpenAI CEO Sam Altman in the press release announcing the deal. “Our partnership with AWS strengthens the broad compute ecosystem that will power this next era and bring advanced AI to everyone.”

Matt Garman, the AWS CEO, said in the release that Amazon’s cloud infrastructure will serve as “a backbone” for OpenAI’s ambitions.

In an interview with CNBC, Dave Brown, Amazon’s vice president of compute and machine learning services, said the new agreement represents “completely separate capacity” that AWS is building out for OpenAI. “Some of that capacity is already available, and OpenAI is making use of that,” Brown told CNBC.

Amazon has also been deepening its investment in AI infrastructure for Anthropic, the rival startup behind the Claude chatbot. Amazon has invested and committed a total of $8 billion in Anthropic and recently opened Project Rainier, an $11 billion data center complex for Anthropic’s workloads, running on hundreds of thousands of its custom Trainium 2 chips.

Microsoft has been expanding its own relationship with Anthropic, adding the startup’s Claude models to Microsoft 365 Copilot, GitHub Copilot, and its Azure AI Foundry platform

Up to this point, OpenAI has relied almost exclusively on Microsoft Azure for the computing infrastructure behind its large language models. The new deal announced by Microsoft and OpenAI last week revised that relationship, giving OpenAI more flexibility to use other cloud providers — removing Microsoft’s right of first refusal on new OpenAI workloads.

At the same time, OpenAI committed to purchase an additional $250 billion in Microsoft services. Microsoft still holds specific IP rights to OpenAI’s models and products through 2032, including the exclusive ability among major cloud platforms to offer OpenAI’s technology through its Azure OpenAI Service.

OpenAI’s new $38 billion deal with Amazon builds on a relationship that began earlier this year, when Amazon added OpenAI’s first open-weight models in five years to its Bedrock and SageMaker services. Released under an open-source license, those models weren’t bound by OpenAI’s exclusive API agreement with Microsoft, letting Amazon offer them on its platforms.

The latest announcement is part of a series of deals by OpenAI in recent months with companies including Oracle and Google — committing hundreds of billions of dollars overall for AI computing capacity, and raising questions about the long-term economics of the AI boom.

12 Fascinating Facts About India’s Vande Bharat Express That Redefine Train Travel

12 Fascinating Facts About India’s Vande Bharat Express That Redefine Train Travel

The Vande Bharat Express has transformed the way people experience rail travel in India. Designed as a semi high-speed train, it is a product of innovation, efficiency, and modern engineering, built entirely under the Make in India initiative. With its blue-and-white streamlined exterior, the train glides through landscapes with near-silent precision, combining speed, comfort, and sustainability. Inside, passengers experience a futuristic journey where Wi-Fi, smart lighting, and temperature-controlled comfort come together seamlessly. Each feature has been thoughtfully designed to rival global standards, offering a glimpse into the future of Indian train tourism.

From its regenerative braking system that feeds power back into the grid to its intelligent Kavach safety technology, every element of the Vande Bharat Express tells a story of progress. It represents not only a leap in technology but also a redefinition of how India moves—efficiently, comfortably, and sustainably. Here are twelve remarkable facts that reveal why this train has become a symbol of national pride and a favorite among both business and leisure travelers.

1. Seats Designed for Comfort and Flexibility

The executive-class seats of the Vande Bharat Express have been designed with comfort in mind. Passengers can rotate the seats up to 180 degrees, allowing them to face the scenery or interact with their travel companions. The ergonomic cushioning, adjustable headrests, personal reading lamps, and charging ports enhance the premium feel. The thoughtful design ensures that even long journeys remain relaxing, bringing a touch of luxury to Indian Railways rarely experienced before.

2. Smart Lighting and Seamless Connectivity

Each coach features a combination of infotainment screens, GPS-based display systems, and reliable onboard Wi-Fi. The lighting system adapts to the time of day—bright and energetic during the morning, then softly illuminated by evening. This subtle ambient change creates a calming environment while minimizing fatigue during travel. The result is a train cabin that feels refreshingly modern and intelligent.

3. Hygienic Toilets That Mirror Airline Standards

The bio-vacuum toilets onboard use advanced waste management systems to maintain hygiene and freshness. Designed to use less water and operate quietly, these toilets ensure an odor-free environment even on long routes. Passengers have consistently appreciated the cleanliness and efficiency of these facilities, which meet international standards and elevate India’s long-distance travel experience.

4. A Quiet Ride That Redefines Comfort

The Vande Bharat Express has been engineered for silence. The fully sealed coaches, automatic plug doors, and soundproof gangways significantly reduce noise from the tracks. Even at higher speeds, passengers experience minimal vibration, allowing uninterrupted rest or work. It offers a smooth and peaceful journey that feels closer to air travel than traditional rail rides.

5. Perfect Climate Control in Every Coach

With automatic temperature regulation, the air-conditioning system of the Vande Bharat Express maintains optimal comfort across India’s varying climates. The sensors detect both the external weather and the number of passengers onboard, adjusting the cooling accordingly. From Delhi’s scorching summers to Chennai’s coastal humidity, the temperature remains consistently pleasant throughout the journey.

6. Meal Service That Elevates Indian Rail Dining

The food service on the train matches the precision of its schedule. Passengers are served hot meals, snacks, and beverages by a trained hospitality crew. Each dish is neatly presented, often compared to airline-style service. The timely and hygienic meal experience has redefined onboard catering standards for Indian trains, offering a sense of refinement and care.

7. Speed That Matches Global Standards

Capable of reaching speeds up to 160 km/h, the train accelerates rapidly after each stop, ensuring punctual arrivals. Despite its velocity, the journey remains smooth and stable, with minimal swaying or noise. This balance of power and comfort has made it an ideal choice for both daily commuters and travelers seeking a time-efficient way to explore India’s major cities.

8. Engine-Free Design for Better Performance

Unlike traditional locomotives, the Vande Bharat Express operates without a separate engine. It functions as an Electric Multiple Unit (EMU), meaning every coach has its own propulsion system. This innovation allows for quicker acceleration, smoother braking, and improved energy efficiency. The design enhances balance and stability, especially important on India’s busy and varied railway network.

9. Proudly Made in India

The entire train has been conceptualized, designed, and assembled at the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai. As part of the Make in India program, the Vande Bharat Express demonstrates India’s growing capability to produce world-class transport systems domestically. It represents a milestone for the Indian Railways, combining indigenous innovation with cutting-edge technology that rivals international models.

10. Safety Through Intelligent Technology

The train is equipped with Kavach, India’s indigenously developed automatic train protection system. Kavach ensures that if another train is detected on the same line, the system automatically applies brakes to prevent collisions. This layer of safety reduces the dependence on human intervention, significantly improving passenger security across the expanding high-speed rail network.

11. Energy Efficiency Through Regenerative Braking

The Vande Bharat Express incorporates a regenerative braking system, converting kinetic energy into electrical energy each time it slows down. This recovered power is redirected into the grid, cutting energy consumption by nearly 30 percent compared to conventional trains. It supports the Indian Railways’ broader vision of becoming a net-zero carbon emitter, aligning with the nation’s sustainability goals.

12. Built for High Speeds, Awaiting Faster Tracks

While the Vande Bharat Express is designed to operate at 200 km/h, current track conditions restrict it to around 130 km/h on most routes. Infrastructure development projects are already underway to upgrade tracks and signaling systems. Once completed, the train will reach its full design potential, representing a new era of rapid intercity travel across India

A Symbol of India’s Modern Railway Future

The Vande Bharat Express stands as a symbol of India’s determination to modernize its transport infrastructure while maintaining sustainability and passenger comfort. With cutting-edge engineering, energy-efficient systems, and elegant interiors, it bridges the gap between luxury and accessibility. As upgrades to the railway network continue, this remarkable train is expected to redefine the future of travel and tourism in India, making every journey faster, cleaner, and more enjoyable.

Air India And TIRUN Join Forces To Launch Seamless Fly Cruise Packages For Indian Travellers: Everything You Need to Know
Air India And TIRUN

India’s growing appetite for global leisure experiences is taking a major leap forward as TIRUN Travel Marketing, a pioneer in India’s cruise industry for more than three decades, unveils a landmark collaboration with Air India. This strategic partnership introduces integrated Fly-Cruise packages that merge the convenience of domestic and international air travel with the allure of luxury cruises, offering travellers a smooth, end-to-end journey from their home city to some of the world’s most coveted cruise destinations.

The partnership officially commenced in November, marking a transformative moment in India’s outbound travel market. Under this initiative, travellers can now book combined air and cruise itineraries that connect Air India and Air India Express flights directly with world-class voyages from TIRUN’s cruise portfolio — including Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises, and Silversea Cruises. Initially, the Fly-Cruise offerings will connect travellers to embarkation ports in Singapore and Hong Kong, with expansion plans to destinations such as Sydney, Los Angeles, and key European ports in the near future.

This integrated travel concept eliminates the long-standing hassle of separate flight and cruise bookings, allowing passengers to enjoy a seamless transition from air to sea. Travellers can conveniently choose their preferred cruise itinerary and fly from their home city on an Air India or Air India Express flight that connects directly to the cruise port — all under a single, unified booking framework. The program ensures end-to-end support, from check-in to boarding, streamlining travel logistics and enhancing the overall experience for first-time cruisers and seasoned voyagers alike.

Beyond convenience, this collaboration is a reflection of a larger transformation sweeping across India’s outbound travel landscape. Indian travellers are increasingly gravitating toward curated, all-inclusive journeys that blend leisure, luxury, and adventure. The Fly-Cruise model taps directly into this evolving demand, offering travellers an effortless way to explore the world with minimal planning stress. It also presents an opportunity for families and groups to experience international holidays in a format that combines exploration with ease — flying in comfort and cruising in style.

From a travel industry perspective, the alliance between Air India and TIRUN represents a powerful fusion of aviation and maritime tourism. It empowers travel agents and tour operators across the country with a ready-to-market, air-inclusive cruise product that can be sold directly to customers. By simplifying operational logistics and offering transparent, combined pricing, the program enables agents to reach new segments of travellers who may have previously found international cruising complex or inaccessible.

Moreover, this partnership arrives at a time when India’s outbound travel market is witnessing rapid diversification. As rising disposable incomes and a growing middle class fuel wanderlust, more Indian travellers are seeking multi-destination experiences that combine convenience with adventure. The Fly-Cruise initiative embodies this spirit — transforming the way Indian travellers explore the world by turning long-distance travel into a seamless, interconnected experience.

The collaboration also underscores Air India’s broader vision to enhance global connectivity and redefine travel convenience. By integrating flight services with cruise itineraries, the airline is positioning itself as a facilitator of holistic travel experiences, rather than simply a mode of transportation. For TIRUN, this partnership extends its pioneering role in cruise marketing by offering travellers an innovative way to access global voyages with ease, comfort, and efficiency.

With bookings available through TIRUN’s extensive distribution network, travellers can now plan and purchase their Fly-Cruise holidays in one go — selecting their preferred itinerary and connecting seamlessly via Air India to their embarkation port. Whether it’s a voyage across Asia, a journey through the Mediterranean, or a transpacific adventure, the initiative ensures travellers can embark on their dream cruise without the logistical burden of coordinating multiple travel segments.

As India’s outbound tourism sector continues to expand, partnerships like this signal a new era in experiential travel. The Air India–TIRUN Fly-Cruise program not only simplifies global holidays but also redefines what it means to travel — blending connectivity, comfort, and the joy of exploration into one integrated journey. It marks a decisive step forward in aligning India’s travel industry with global standards, ensuring that Indian travellers can explore the world with the same ease and sophistication as their international counterparts.

AmaMelodia Expands AmaWaterways’ Colombian Presence with New Magdalena River Voyages

AmaMelodia Expands AmaWaterways’ Colombian Presence with New Magdalena River Voyages

The arrival of the AmaMelodia marks a defining moment for AmaWaterways and its growing footprint in Colombia. Following the success of AmaMagdalena, which began sailing earlier in 2025, this new addition strengthens the company’s commitment to sustainable river cruising along the Magdalena River. The launch of AmaMelodia not only showcases the elegance of Colombian craftsmanship but also reinforces a collaborative effort between AmaWaterways and ProColombia to create meaningful travel experiences that honor local heritage. Designed to host 64 guests, the vessel captures the vibrancy of Colombian culture, from its interior décor to its culinary offerings inspired by the country’s diverse regions. Each itinerary immerses travelers in the authentic spirit of Colombia, celebrating its music, art, and traditions while supporting riverside communities. With this expansion, AmaWaterways is set to redefine river cruising in South America by blending luxury with cultural authenticity and environmental responsibility.

A New Chapter for AmaWaterways in Colombia

The introduction of AmaMelodia has been viewed as a pivotal milestone for AmaWaterways, a brand renowned for its innovative approach to river cruising. The vessel’s official launch took place on October 26, 2025, marking the culmination of years of planning and collaboration between the company and its Colombian partners. The addition of this second ship comes after the overwhelmingly positive reception of the AmaMagdalena earlier in the year, which was the company’s first ship to operate on Colombia’s iconic Magdalena River.

This expansion represents more than an increase in capacity. It signals the company’s growing confidence in the potential of the Colombian tourism market and the desire of travelers to explore destinations that blend cultural depth with natural beauty. AmaMelodia’s introduction underscores AmaWaterways’ long-term vision to position Colombia as one of South America’s leading river cruise destinations.

The Spirit of Collaboration and Sustainability

The development of AmaMelodia was made possible through extensive cooperation between AmaWaterways and Colombian tourism stakeholders. The project reflects a shared goal to create a sustainable tourism model that benefits both visitors and local communities. The partnership with ProColombia, the country’s official tourism promotion agency, has played a crucial role in coordinating national and regional actors to ensure the project’s success.

ProColombia’s involvement has been essential in aligning the cruise operations with Colombia’s tourism strategy. By supporting initiatives that highlight cultural authenticity and protect natural environments, the agency aims to foster long-term tourism growth in the Magdalena River region. This initiative demonstrates how private and public sectors can work together to strengthen Colombia’s global reputation as a welcoming and responsible travel destination.

Design Inspired by Colombian Heritage

The AmaMelodia has been carefully designed to embody the soul of Colombian artistry. Every detail, from the ship’s elegant interior design to its locally inspired menus, reflects a deep respect for the nation’s cultural roots. The vessel can accommodate up to 64 guests, providing an intimate and luxurious experience that allows travelers to connect more deeply with the surroundings.

The décor on board draws inspiration from Colombia’s colorful traditions, featuring handcrafted elements by local artisans. The ship’s culinary offerings showcase regional flavors, celebrating ingredients and dishes unique to the Magdalena River Valley. This approach enables guests to experience Colombia not only through scenic views but through the textures, aromas, and tastes of its diverse landscape.

Immersive Itineraries Along the Magdalena River

To enhance the guest experience, AmaWaterways offers two distinctive itineraries aboard the AmaMelodia — the Magic of Colombia and the Wonders of Colombia. Each journey takes travelers on a cultural and ecological exploration of the Magdalena River Valley, highlighting the music, cuisine, and biodiversity that define this part of the country.

Excursions have been thoughtfully curated to immerse guests in authentic local experiences. Travelers can attend jazz concerts in the historic town of Mompox, engage with artists and musicians, and visit Palenque, a community celebrated for its African heritage and living traditions. These activities allow guests to connect directly with Colombia’s vibrant culture and witness the pride and passion that define its people.

Both itineraries emphasize the balance between exploration and education, ensuring that visitors gain a deeper understanding of the region’s history and environmental significance. By focusing on cultural immersion rather than conventional sightseeing, AmaWaterways fosters a more meaningful connection between travelers and the destinations they visit.

A Commitment to Local Communities and Sustainable Tourism

AmaWaterways’ approach to river cruising in Colombia is grounded in sustainability. Through partnerships with local communities and organizations, the company ensures that tourism growth contributes positively to the region. Economic opportunities generated by the cruise operations are designed to support local artisans, musicians, and entrepreneurs who play a central role in preserving Colombia’s cultural identity.

The collaboration with ProColombia has been instrumental in maximizing the positive social and environmental impact of the project. The agency has recognized AmaWaterways for its commitment to cultural exchange and responsible tourism practices. AmaMelodia, much like her sister ship AmaMagdalena, serves as a model for how modern travel can promote inclusivity, respect for heritage, and long-term environmental stewardship.

This initiative also highlights Colombia’s emerging role as a leading destination for sustainable river cruising in Latin America. By focusing on smaller-scale, high-quality travel experiences, AmaWaterways demonstrates that luxury tourism can coexist harmoniously with ecological preservation and community development.

Strengthening the Magdalena River Experience

With both AmaMelodia and AmaMagdalena now sailing along the Magdalena River, AmaWaterways offers travelers an expanded opportunity to explore the heart and soul of Colombia. The two ships symbolize a successful fusion of European river cruise expertise with the cultural richness of South America.

The company’s long-standing reputation for exceptional service and immersive travel aligns perfectly with the Colombian ethos of hospitality and artistry. Guests aboard either ship are invited to experience Colombia from a unique perspective — one that flows through its landscapes, communities, and stories.

This venture not only diversifies AmaWaterways’ global portfolio but also contributes to the revitalization of river-based tourism in Colombia. It positions the Magdalena River as a new frontier for luxury travel, where sustainability and culture take center stage.

Looking Ahead: The Future of River Cruising in Colombia

AmaWaterways’ continued investment in Colombia signals a promising future for river cruising in Latin America. The success of the AmaMagdalena and AmaMelodia is expected to encourage further development of sustainable tourism infrastructure along the Magdalena River. As awareness of Colombia’s cultural and natural wealth continues to grow, more travelers are likely to be drawn to its waterways.

Through this expansion, AmaWaterways reaffirms its commitment to offering authentic, responsible, and transformative travel experiences. The AmaMelodia’s journey represents not just the launch of a ship, but the deepening of a partnership that celebrates Colombia’s heritage while opening new horizons for global travelers.

In the years to come, the Magdalena River is anticipated to stand among the world’s most celebrated river cruise destinations — a place where tradition, innovation, and sustainability converge under the banner of AmaWaterways.

The psychology of a troll may start with a specific type of envy

2 November 2025 at 21:00

A new study reveals a psychological pathway that connects narcissistic personality traits with the tendency to engage in social media trolling. The research suggests this link is partially explained by a person’s feelings of malicious envy and their exposure to antisocial media content. The findings were published in the journal Behaviour & Information Technology.

To understand the study, it helps to first understand the concepts involved. Narcissism is a personality trait characterized by a grandiose sense of self-importance, a need for admiration, and a sense of entitlement. Trolling, in the context of social media, refers to the act of posting inflammatory or provocative messages to intentionally upset others and disrupt online conversations. The researchers, Mars A. Brown and Masahiro Toyama from the Department of Psychology at Marshall University, sought to explore the mechanisms behind the known association between these two phenomena.

Previous research has shown mixed results on the connection between narcissism and trolling, but recent studies have more consistently found a link. The Marshall University team wanted to build on this work by examining potential intermediary factors. They focused on two distinct types of envy.

The first, benign envy, is a feeling that motivates a person to improve themselves to match someone they admire. The second, malicious envy, involves hostility and a desire to see a more successful person brought down. The researchers hypothesized that malicious envy, not benign envy, might serve as a bridge between narcissism and trolling. They also investigated whether exposure to antisocial media content, such as media depicting fighting or rule-breaking, played a role in this dynamic.

To test their ideas, the researchers recruited 326 adults from the United States using an online platform called Prolific. The participants completed a detailed online questionnaire designed to measure several psychological characteristics. They answered questions that assessed their level of narcissism, their tendencies toward both malicious and benign envy, and their self-reported trolling behaviors on social media.

The survey also gauged their frequency of exposure to antisocial media content. The questionnaire included standard psychological scales for these measures, as well as questions about personality traits like agreeableness and openness to experience, and demographic information like age and gender.

The analysis of the survey data produced a clearer picture of the relationship between these factors. The first major finding confirmed a direct association: individuals with higher narcissism scores were more likely to report engaging in social media trolling. This held true even when other personality traits and demographic factors were taken into account.

The researchers then looked at the role of envy. Their analysis showed that people with higher narcissism scores also reported higher levels of malicious envy. In turn, higher levels of malicious envy were associated with more frequent trolling. This suggests that for some people with narcissistic traits, seeing others succeed online can trigger a hostile envy that leads them to lash out through trolling. Benign envy, on the other hand, was not significantly connected to either narcissism or trolling in this study.

The study also identified a more complex, multi-step pathway. Narcissism was linked to higher malicious envy, which was then linked to a greater frequency of consuming antisocial media content. This increased exposure to antisocial media was, in turn, associated with a higher likelihood of trolling. In this model, narcissistic tendencies can foster a malicious envy that makes content depicting aggression and social defiance more appealing, and consuming this content may normalize or encourage trolling behavior.

Interestingly, even when these indirect pathways through malicious envy and media consumption were accounted for, a direct link between narcissism and trolling remained. This indicates that these intermediary factors are part of the story, but not the whole explanation. Other aspects of narcissism, such as a need for attention or a desire to feel superior by provoking others, may also directly contribute to trolling. The study also noted that individuals with lower levels of the personality trait agreeableness showed patterns similar to those with high narcissism.

The researchers acknowledge several limitations to their work. The study’s design is correlational, which means it shows associations between different factors but cannot prove that one causes another. The data was collected at a single point in time, and future studies that follow participants over time could provide more insight into how these behaviors develop.

Additionally, the study’s participants were recruited from the United States and were, on average, more highly educated than the general population. This means the findings may not be applicable to people in other countries or from different backgrounds. The study also treated narcissism as a single concept, while other research suggests it is a complex trait with multiple dimensions, such as grandiose and vulnerable narcissism, which could have different relationships with trolling.

Future research could explore these different facets of narcissism and investigate other potential factors, like a lack of empathy or the pleasure derived from others’ misfortune, known as schadenfreude.

The study, “Inside the link between narcissism and social media trolling: the involvement of malicious envy and exposure to antisocial media content,” was authored by Mars A. Brown and Masahiro Toyama.

“Müsbətə doğru dəyişə biləcəyimiz şeylər var” (MÜSAHİBƏ)

2 November 2025 at 16:41

Azərbaycan cüdoçuları Meksikanın Qvadalaxara şəhərində təşkil olunan Qran-prini 9 medalla başa vurublar. Onlardan altısı qızıl, üçü bürünc əyarlıdır.

Balabəy Ağayev (60 kq), Ruslan Paşayev (66 kq), Hidayət Heydərov (73 kq), Vüsal Qələndərzadə (81 kq), Zelim Kotsoyev (81 kq) və Uşanqi Kokauri (+100 kq) qızıl mükafata sahib çıxıblar.

Əhməd Yusifov (60 kq), Rəşid Məmmədəliyev (73 kq) və Murad Fətiyev (90 kq) bürünc medalla kifayətləniblər.

Beləliklə, Azərbaycan komandası medal sıralamasında birinci yeri tutub.

Milli komandanın baş məşqçisi Riçard Trautman “Futbolpress.az“a açıqlamasında milli üzvlərinin turnirdəki çıxışını dəyərləndirdi:

“Gözləntilərimizi tam qarşılaya bilmədik. Qızıl medalımız olmadı. Bəziləri nəticə verə bilmədi.

Bura gələndə ilk ilimdə 24, 2023-də 29, 2024-də 30 medal olub. Bu il də hələ davam edir. Bunlar göstərir ki, artıq medal qazana biləcək idmançılarımızın sayının artmasıdır. Ən vacib məqam dünya və Olimpiya medallarıdır. Los Anceles Olimpiyadasına ən yaxşı heyəti çıxarmalıyıq”.

Dudhwa Tiger Reserve Opens for Tourism with New Safari Routes, Affordable Accommodations and a Focus on Sustainability as Top Eco-Tourism Destination in India

Dudhwa Tiger Reserve in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh is now opening its gates to tourists for the first time, effective November 1, 2025, onward. This new move marks a major step ahead in Uttar Pradesh’s tourism and wildlife conservation efforts, enabling visitors to explore its breath-taking landscapes, rich biodiversity, and thriving ecosystems.

Till 2024, the tourist season in Dudhwa was from November 15 to June 15, but in 2025, the reserve opened on November 6. The new opening date this November heralds a new beginning for wildlife tourism in the region. Alongside the Pilibhit Tiger Reserve, Dudhwa Tiger Reserve is expected to become a key pillar in the growth of eco-tourism and conservation tourism in India.

A Historic Moment: Opening Ceremony and Celebrations

The inaugural event for the 2025 tourist season was marked by a ceremonial ribbon-cutting at the Dudhwa jungle entry gates, attended by senior officials including Saxena, the Uttar Pradesh Minister for Forests and Wildlife, along with Anuradha Vemuri, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife), Sunil Kumar Chaudhary, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, and Durga Shakti Nagpal, the District Magistrate of Kheri. Other officials such as Dudhwa Field Director Dr. H Rajamohan, Deputy Director Jagdish R, and local forest officials were also present.

The ceremonial event featured specially decorated Dudhwa camp elephants, which offered ceremonial greetings to the guests and tourists. In return, the elephants were offered fresh fruits as part of the traditional welcome, showcasing the harmonious relationship between wildlife conservation and local culture in the reserve.

Exploring Dudhwa: A Rich Habitat for Endangered Species

Dudhwa Tiger Reserve is located on the India-Nepal border and shares boundaries with Pilibhit Tiger Reserve and Nepal’s forests, creating a rich, biodiverse habitat for several endangered species. The reserve is home to wild elephants, Royal Bengal Tigers, swamp deer, one-horned rhinos, and a wide range of reptiles, birds, and other wildlife. The Sal forests, grasslands, and wetlands within Dudhwa offer perfect conditions for these species to thrive, making it an essential site for conservation and eco-tourism.

Dudhwa also hosts numerous medicinal herbs and plants, benefiting from its serene climate and untouched environment. These elements make Dudhwa not only a wildlife haven but also a rich natural resource, allowing visitors to witness both the natural beauty of India’s Northern plains and the thriving ecosystems of the Terai region.

Introducing New Safari Routes for a Fresh Adventure

To enhance the tourist experience and make the safari more adventurous, Dudhwa Tiger Reserve has introduced two new safari routes for 2025:

  1. Nishangarha route in Katarniaghat
  2. Route No. 23 in Dudhwa National Park

These new routes will provide tourists with expanded access to the reserve, allowing them to explore new areas and encounter more wildlife. The inclusion of these routes will not only enrich the safari experience but also contribute to the local economy by creating employment opportunities for drivers, nature guides, and other service providers in the area. By expanding the available routes, Dudhwa Tiger Reserve is ensuring that tourists can experience the full beauty of the park’s wildlife and natural surroundings, while also making the reserve more accessible and welcoming.

Affordable Accommodation for Middle-Class Tourists

To make Dudhwa Tiger Reserve more accessible to a wider audience, especially middle-class families and budget travelers, affordable accommodation options will be available. These reasonably priced stays will allow domestic tourists and international visitors to experience the park’s wildlife and natural beauty without exceeding their budget. The availability of affordable lodgings will cater to family travelers, nature enthusiasts, and students, making eco-tourism in Dudhwa accessible to all.

Sustainability and Cleanliness Drive in Dudhwa Tiger Reserve

In alignment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s cleanliness initiative, Dudhwa Tiger Reserve is aiming to become plastic-free, with measures in place to reduce the environmental impact of tourism. The Ministry of Forests has requested tourists to avoid plastic materials while visiting the reserve, ensuring that the natural environment remains untouched and preserved.

The park is also committed to ensuring that visitor facilities, such as restrooms and common areas, are kept clean and well-maintained. This dedication to eco-friendly tourism reflects India’s commitment to sustainable tourism practices and sets an example for wildlife reserves across the country.

Looking Ahead: Dudhwa’s Role in India’s Tourism Landscape

In this context, Dudhwa Tiger Reserve has a bright future as one of the mainstays of eco-tourism and wildlife enthusiasts visiting India. It will be an important link in the tourism map of North India, especially since it offers wildlife diversity combined with scenic landscapes and a touch of culture. Opening new safari routes, affordable places to stay, and sustainable tourism will ensure long-term prospects for Dudhwa Tiger Reserve as part of India’s wildlife tourism hub.

In this way, Dudhwa will keep on attracting more international visitors for an immersive, nature-driven experience in the 2025 tourism season and make Uttar Pradesh a vital region for eco-tourism in India. Thanks to continuous investment in infrastructure and eco-friendly practices, Dudhwa Tiger Reserve could turn out to be exemplary for sustainable tourism and wildlife conservation in the coming years.

What’s going on

Travel plans for many were thrown off this weekend when more than a dozen flights operated by SpiceJet were cancelled, affecting routes from key hubs across India. While the airline has not publicly detailed exactly why each flight was cancelled, recent data from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) gives broader context: for domestic carriers in June 2025, technical reasons accounted for 36.97 % of cancellations, operational issues for 24.98 % and weather‑related problems for 22.4 %.

In addition, the DGCA’s report for 2024 noted that SpiceJet had the highest cancellation rate among major Indian airlines at 1.81 %.

These figures hint that the cancellations this weekend may stem from recurring pressures on aircraft, crew, scheduling or maintenance — all highlighted in past regulatory oversight. For instance, the DGCA had placed SpiceJet under enhanced surveillance following flight cancellations and engineering concerns.

Passenger rights and what you can do

Passengers whose flights are cancelled have rights under Indian aviation regulation. According to the DGCA’s Passenger Charter and CAR (Civil Aviation Requirements) Section 3 — Series M — in case of cancellation, the airline must provide either an alternate flight or a full refund of the ticket. They must also provide meals/refreshments and hotel accommodation (with transfer) if the delay or disruption demands it.

Specifically, if your flight is cancelled or delayed significantly:

  • You should be given the option of a refund or re‑booking at no extra cost.
  • Compensation and assistance (meals, hotels) must be provided if you have checked‑in and then are affected by the cancellation.
  • For a cancellation or delay outside of “extraordinary circumstances” (which the airline cannot control), the obligations apply fully.

If you’re among those impacted by this list of cancelled flights, you’re advised to contact SpiceJet’s customer‑service, keep your boarding pass and booking documents, and check your options for refund or alternate flight.

The wider picture

When flights are cancelled across multiple origin‑destination pairs like this—Delhi to Kangra, Ahmedabad to Patna, Mumbai to Ayodhya, Patna to Hyderabad and more—it doesn’t just inconvenience a passenger or two. Families miss reunions, business travellers postpone meetings, hotel bookings get wasted, and ground transport and connecting flights ripple outwards. For airports and local economies dependent on smooth travel flows, even a handful of cancellations adds up.

In the case of this weekend’s disruption, it’s not just one route that’s affected—multiple hubs and destinations are caught in the spread. When you consider data showing that technical and operational issues account for a large share of cancellations, the strain on airline reliability becomes more visible. Meanwhile, the regulator’s scrutiny of airlines like SpiceJet underscores that this is not purely one‑off.

Final thought

If you were all set on your way this morning, boarding pass in hand and weekend plans ahead, only to find that your flight is cancelled—you’re not alone. It’s a messy part of air travel, but one that is avoidable if you stay alert: check your flight status, keep alternate plans in mind, and make sure you know your rights. For those caught in this weekend’s disruption from SpiceJet, you deserve clarity, service and the refund or free re‑routing that rules guarantee. Here’s hoping that despite the turbulence in travel plans, your next trip takes off smoothly and on time.

Researchers have decoded TikTok’s viral Bold Glamour filter

2 November 2025 at 02:00

A recent study provides a detailed analysis of TikTok’s popular “Bold Glamour” filter, finding that its artificial intelligence makes specific, subtle changes that often align with the goals of common cosmetic procedures. The research, published in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery-Global Open, quantifies these modifications to better understand how such digital tools are shaping modern beauty standards and influencing patient expectations in aesthetic medicine.

The Bold Glamour filter, released on the TikTok social media platform in early 2023, quickly gained widespread attention for its remarkable realism. Unlike earlier filters that often glitch or appear as a simple layer over a person’s image, Bold Glamour uses a more advanced form of artificial intelligence to generate a new, altered version of the face in real time.

While TikTok has not revealed the specific technology, experts suggest it employs a process known as a generative adversarial network, which compares a user’s face to a vast database of other images to produce a completely remodeled, airbrushed result.

This technological sophistication means the digital enhancements remain stable even when a user moves or covers parts of their face, making the effect appear uncannily natural and often difficult to detect. Researchers undertook this study because the filter’s seamless and persuasive nature raises questions about its impact on self-perception.

Psychologists have expressed concern that such realistic filters could warp a person’s understanding of what a normal face looks like, potentially making them feel alienated from their own appearance and more interested in pursuing plastic surgery. The filter’s ability to present a glossier, more sculpted version of oneself has prompted a broad public conversation about its potential to establish new, algorithmically-defined benchmarks for beauty that could influence requests for aesthetic surgery.

To measure the filter’s effects, the research team captured images of 10 female participants using a standard smartphone camera. For each participant, they analyzed one unfiltered photograph and one image generated by the Bold Glamour filter. The analysis was conducted using two methods. First, they employed an automated software that can identify and map nearly one thousand distinct points on a human face, allowing for precise digital measurement of changes to facial features. Second, the researchers performed manual observations to identify alterations in soft tissues, such as skin texture and the appearance of makeup.

The analysis revealed a pattern of distinct and consistent modifications. On a broad scale, the filter tended to increase the face’s overall dimensions, making the jawline appear wider and the forehead taller. Many of these structural changes were proportionally small, often altering a feature by less than 10 percent. This subtlety helps the filtered image retain a natural appearance while still creating a noticeable enhancement.

When examining specific features, the researchers documented more pronounced changes. The filter algorithmically refined the nose, reducing the width of the tip and the base while increasing the upward rotation of the nasal tip. It also created substantially fuller lips, augmenting the height of the upper lip by an average of 25 percent and the lower lip by 16 percent. Other changes included a slight lift of the right eyebrow and a more defined projection of the cheekbones.

Perhaps the most significant alterations were not structural but related to the skin and soft tissues. The filter produced a dramatic smoothing effect, which reduced the appearance of wrinkles, tear troughs under the eyes, and smile lines around the mouth. It also seemed to eliminate hyperpigmentation and apply digital makeup, such as thickening and darkening the eyebrows.

These changes mimic the results of common nonsurgical rejuvenation treatments, including chemical peels, laser resurfacing, and microblading. The filter appears to blend both feminizing features, like lifted eyebrows, and masculinizing ones, such as a stronger jaw, likely to appeal to a wide range of users.

The researchers note that these findings have direct relevance to the field of aesthetic medicine. Digital tools like the Bold Glamour filter could one day serve as aids during consultations, helping surgeons and patients visualize potential outcomes of procedures. For instance, the filter’s effects correspond to the goals of treatments like lip and brow lifts, rhinoplasty, and various skin resurfacing techniques. Such technology could facilitate better communication and help establish clearer expectations between a patient and a surgeon.

At the same time, the widespread use of these filters presents challenges. The digitally perfected images may promote unrealistic beauty ideals that are difficult or impossible to achieve through surgery. This could affect the psychological well-being of users, potentially contributing to body image issues or conditions like body dysmorphic disorder, where a person becomes obsessed with perceived flaws in their appearance. The study suggests that surgeons must be mindful of these risks, balancing the potential benefits of new technologies with an ethical responsibility to prioritize the patient’s overall health and well-being.

The study was not without its limitations. The analysis was based on a small sample of 10 female participants, so the findings may not apply to men, nonbinary individuals, or a more diverse population. Additionally, the photographs were taken with a smartphone rather than under standardized studio conditions, which may have introduced minor inconsistencies in the automated measurements.

Future research could address these points by using larger and more diverse participant groups and employing professional photography to ensure greater precision. Further investigations are also needed to understand the psychological effects of prolonged interaction with AI-modified self-images, especially among younger and more vulnerable populations.

Problematic social media use linked to loneliness and death anxiety

2 November 2025 at 00:00

A study of adult social media users in Italy suggested that loneliness and death anxiety might mediate the relationship between attachment anxiety and problematic social media use. The paper was published in Death Studies.

Attachment anxiety is a form of insecure attachment characterized by fear of rejection and excessive need for closeness in relationships. People with attachment anxiety constantly worry that their partner does not love them enough or will eventually leave them.

This persistent fear can lead to clingy or overly dependent behaviors as they seek reassurance. Even minor signs of distance or withdrawal from a partner can trigger intense distress or jealousy. Such individuals tend to be highly sensitive to changes in tone, attention, or affection. Their self-esteem is often highly dependent on how they are treated by significant others.

Attachment theory proposes that this form of anxiety develops from inconsistent caregiving during childhood, where affection and attention were unpredictable. In adulthood, it can make relationships emotionally exhausting and unstable.

Study author Alessandro Musetti and his colleagues hypothesized that attachment anxiety contributes to problematic social media use through a chain of psychological factors. They proposed that this relationship is mediated first by loneliness and then by death anxiety. Citing Terror Management Theory, they noted that individuals often cope with existential anxiety by seeking “symbolic immortality”—a sense of being part of something larger that will outlast them. The authors suggest that individuals with attachment anxiety may turn to social media to build a lasting digital presence as a way of achieving this symbolic immortality.

The study included 799 Italian adults (52% women) with an average age of 32. Regarding education, 54% had finished high school and 16% had a bachelor’s degree. In terms of employment, 31% were employed full-time, while 27% were students.

They completed a survey containing assessments of attachment anxiety (the Relationship Questionnaire), loneliness (the UCLA–Loneliness Scale), death anxiety (the Death Anxiety Scale), and problematic social media use (the Bergen Social Media Addiction Scale). Problematic social media use is a pattern of excessive or compulsive engagement with social media that interferes with daily functioning, relationships, or mental well-being.

Results showed that attachment anxiety was positively correlated with the other measured traits. Individuals with higher attachment anxiety also tended to report greater loneliness, stronger death anxiety, and more symptoms of problematic social media use.

The researchers’ statistical model revealed a nuanced set of relationships. First, it showed that two forms of loneliness—isolation (lacking a social network) and relational disconnectedness (lacking intimate relationships)—each helped explain the link between attachment anxiety and problematic social media use. More specifically, the model supported a sequential pathway: attachment anxiety was linked to higher relational disconnectedness, which in turn was linked to greater death anxiety, which finally was associated with problematic social media use. This specific chain of events was not found for the other types of loneliness.

“These findings underscore the significance underlying psychological processes in PSMU [problematic social media use], suggesting potential avenues for targeted interventions that address attachment-related insecurities, relational disconnectedness, and existential concerns,” the study authors concluded.

The study contributes to the scientific understanding of the consequences of attachment anxiety. However, it should be noted that the design of the study does not allow any definitive causal inferences to be derived from the results. The statistical model tested and supported by data only shows that the state of relationships it proposes is possible, not that it is definitely true.

The paper, “Attachment anxiety, loneliness, and death anxiety in problematic social media use,” was authored by Alessandro Musetti, Alessandro Alberto Rossi, Mattia Pezzi, Stefania Mannarini, Vittorio Lenzo, and Adriano Schimmenti.

CEO of Nvidia just confirmed that the company is working with Samsung and SK Hynix on HBM3 and HBM4 AI memory chips. Referring to their great partnership, the CEO said Nvidia will develop HBM5 and even HBM97 with the two companies.

Nvidia CEO Jensen reiterated that Nvidia is working closely with Samsung and SK Hynix on HBM. The two South Korean companies are long-term partners of Nvidia and possess incredible technological capabilities.

CEO Huang expressed his satisfaction with the cooperation, saying, “The strength of Samsung is diversity, and SK Hynix’s strength is focus; I am 100% confident that we (Nvidia) will continue to develop HBM4, HBM5, and even HBM97 (AI chips) together.”

Looking at the rise of AI, Jensen lauded South Korea’s memory technology and highlighted that Nvidia’s AI infrastructure business is the largest in history. To meet the demand and stable supply, it requires both Samsung and SK Hynix.

To empower the country’s growth with AI, Nvidia’s CEO advocated for an open AI model ecosystem that covers various industries. The ecosystem should be comprised and pushed by startups and universities to make it broad.

Notably, Nvidia approved Samsung’s HBM3E chip for its latest AI accelerator. The company is also engaging with Samsung for HBM4. As compared to SK Hynix, Samsung took much time in qualifying Nvidia’s quality tests.

Xiaomi Smart Led Bulb (White and Color)

While one of India’s biggest festivals just went by, the festive season isn’t close to the end. With Christmas and New Year’s coming up, festive décor is still all the rage, and smart lighting has become one of the most effective ways to refresh your home ambience. These appliances are practical, energy-efficient and increasingly integrated with voice assistants or smart home ecosystems. So here’s everything you should know about them.

Smart Lights for Festive Season
Qubo Smart Bulb

What to Look for Before You Buy Smart Lights

In the Indian market, choosing the right smart lights involves more than just picking a brand and colour. First, check for compatibility with your existing voice assistant, like Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant. Seamless integration makes it easy to control lights by voice or schedule. Many Indian smart lighting brands now offer voice control and scheduling features.

You should also look for connectivity options (Wi-Fi vs Bluetooth) and whether the bulb requires a hub. Some brands like Philips Hue expect you to add a bridge, while others are “plug-and-play”. Versatility is another big aspect to consider, like color hues, brightness levels, and app features like scene creation or sync with music make a big difference during celebrations.

Top Smart Light Picks for India

  • Philips Wiz 9 W Wi‑Fi Smart LED Bulb: A strong premium choice, backed by Philips’ brand reliability and app + voice-assistant support. Great for living rooms where quality and ecosystem stability matter.
  • Mi Smart LED Colour Bulb B22: A value brand offering full-colour capability, decent brightness and minimal setup. Ideal if you want an easy upgrade without huge spend.
  • Wipro Garnet 9 W Smart LED Bulb: An India-based brand focussing on affordability and practicality. Good for rooms where you want smart control without premium pricing.
  • Qubo Smart Bulb 12 W E27 LED: A mid-tier option with slightly higher wattage, decent app control and decent colour options. For users who want a step up in brightness.
  • Orismart WiFi 16‑Million Colours LED Bulb: A strong “value colour” choice that is ideal for accent lighting, decorative setups, or places where you want the festive light-effect more than maximum brightness.

How These Fit the Festive Season

During festivals, homes often shift from ordinary lighting to decorative and mood lighting. Smart bulbs give you flexibility, create warm white scenes for dinner, bright white for cleaning/organising, or vibrant colour scenes for celebration. Many apps allow scheduling so lights can auto-dim or shift tones as evening begins. We already covered the Diwali tech essentials a while back, and these options are also great for upcoming festivals like Christmas. The end of the year usually also brings family time and big dinners, which can be further enhanced with the right lighting.

Tenth Circuit Hands Fed a Win: Custodia Denied Master Account in Blow to Crypto Sovereignty,  Dissent Brings the Heat

Tenth Circuit Hands Fed a Win: Custodia Denied Master Account in Blow to Crypto Sovereignty,  Dissent Brings the Heat

In a 2-1 decision issued today, the Tenth Circuit affirmed the denial of a Federal Reserve master account to Custodia Bank, the Wyoming-chartered Special Purpose Depository Institution (SPDI) that has become the test case for crypto-native banking. The panel upheld the district court across the board and left Reserve Banks with broad (and potentially unreviewable, in the words of the dissent) discretion over access.

Master accounts are the keys to the fiat kingdom. They’re the ledger entries that let institutions clear and settle directly at the Fed; without one, a “bank” is functionally just a vault dependent on fickle intermediaries and third-party rails. That practical choke point (which has been abused by regulators before) gives any discretion over access extraordinary policy significance.

Wyoming created SPDIs to pair traditional (but fully reserved) dollar banking rails with segregated digital-asset services. Custodia, barred from making loans and required to keep dollar deposits 100% backed by high-quality liquid assets, applied for a master account in October 2020. Early signals from the Kansas City Fed were positive (“no showstoppers”), but after the Board finalized its 2022 access Guidelines, FRBKC treated Custodia as a Tier 3 applicant, the bucket that “generally receive[s] the strictest level of review,” and formally denied the account in January 2023. The Board, consulted beforehand, emailed it had “no concerns” with FRBKC communicating a denial.

The Majority Opinion

Writing for the court, Judge Ebel rejected Custodia’s statutory and administrative claims, and essentially granted the Federal Reserve broad, and potentially unbounded, discretion on this point. Reading the Federal Reserve Act’s § 342 (“may receive deposits”) together with the Monetary Control Act’s § 248a, the panel concluded that access decisions remain discretionary with the Reserve Banks; § 248a(c)(2)’s “shall be available” language concerns pricing and parity for services the Board prices, it doesn’t force the Banks to open an account for every eligible institution. The court also treated the 2022 “Toomey Amendment” (§ 248c) as transparency-oriented, not a mandate to approve applications.

On the APA front, the panel held the Board’s “no-concerns” email was not final agency action, the ultimate decision belonged to FRBKC under the Guidelines, so it carried no independent legal effect. That also undercut theories aimed at the Board itself. Finally, Judge Ebel dispenses with Custodia’s constitutional argument related to the Presidential appointment of inferior officers on a (in my opinion) flimsy technicality: that the argument was not properly preserved.

The Dissent

Judge Tymkovich dissented, reading § 248a(c)(2)’s “shall be available” as a substantive access guarantee, not mere pricing boilerplate. In his view, when Congress opened the Fed’s services to “nonmember depository institutions,” it made master-account access a duty enforceable, if necessary, through traditional tools like mandamus, rather than a roving veto lodged in unappointed Reserve Bank officers (a framework he warns invites constitutional headaches). He also emphasized that courts in related master-account litigation (e.g., Banco San Juan) recognize the centrality of § 342 but do not resolve away the MCA’s “shall” command.

We are bound by the ordinary language of the statute and, in my view, shall means shall. Section § 248a(c)(2) mandates access to the Fed’s payment services for all nonmember depository institutions. By denying Custodia a master account, the Kansas City Fed has unlawfully denied it access to those services which are vital to its business. That, it cannot do.

The Road Ahead

We need to see the result in PayServices (Ninth Circuit). If that court goes the other way, a circuit split would materially increase the odds of Supreme Court review. It’s interesting to note that Judge Tymkovich was also on that case. But, for now, the ball is firmly in Custodia’s court.

Today’s ruling cements Reserve Bank discretion at the access gate; the dissent, by contrast, reads the MCA as Congress’s promise of open access for state-chartered, deposit-taking institutions like Custodia’s SPDI. The stakes, for constitutional structure, state innovation, and Bitcoin-adjacent banking, couldn’t be clearer.

Disclosure: I authored an amicus brief on behalf of Wyoming’s Secretary of State supporting Custodia.

Smartphones and social media are the double-edged sword amidst problems with ICE

31 October 2025 at 23:41
oplus 3145728

For many US citizens at this particular moment in time, smartphones have become a valuable tool in the pushback against ICE, in hopes that surveillance of their actions will result in ICE agents reducing their use of force during raids to detain people. In some cases, video recording and what could almost be viewed as verbally shaming these agents in public has resulted in them leaving the scene of attempt to detain someone. Almost like they know they weren’t supposed to be doing it in the first place.

These sorts of recordings, as well as images related to the same subject taken with smartphones we carry with us every day, are being spread all across social media. Making them more of an important thing to have around these days. The sharing on social media shouldn’t be surprising. It’s become a main form of spreading news on current events. Situations that might otherwise get little media attention from big outlets and networks.

Outside of social media, apps like ICEBlock and similar offerings have made their way onto app platforms this year. These apps have served as a way for citizens to share active locations of ICE agents. All in hopes people could avoid those areas. Like users of Waze do when they crowdsource information on speed traps. But smartphones and social media, however much they’ve been useful to the average user, are double-edged sword admist these problems with ICE.

ICE and the Trump administration are also able to use smartphones and social media for surveillance

As much as both smartphones and social media have been useful for citizens to share what’s happening, they’ve also been a method for ICE and the Trump administration to use surveillance against the populace. This unfortunate two-way street has and never likely will be a closed-off or one-sided beneficial piece of technology. That is to say, now more than ever, people should be careful about what they say or post online.

Whether or not thoughts of political dissent is something that enters your mind on a daily basis or crops up in conversations with friends, it’s one thing to think about that stuff and discuss with people close to you in person or in personal chats. It’s another thing to outwardly share those thoughts with the world at large onine.

Be careful about what you share online

This isn’t to say you shouldn’t talk about or share these things. Just that sharing these current moments require more contemplation. The launch of a new app that shares real-time locations of ICE activity to alert others, an opinion about ICE and what they’re doing, a video of excessive force during a detention. All of these should all be done with forethought and tact. As ICE also have their own tools.

As noted by Kyle Chayka in The New Yorker, ICE has been seen using digital tools created by Palantir to gather information on people it’s detained. These tools scan social media accounts, government records, and bio-metric data of detainees. At the same time, the Trump administration has put pressure on app stores like Google Play and the Apple App Store to remove apps that work against ICE and its goals. ICEBlock and similar offerings have all been pulled down. Other apps, such as Eyes Up, went live on September 1 of this year to archive recordings of excessive abuse and abductions by ICE, only to be pulled down in early October.

So far there haven’t been any widespread (let alone any that are known) instances of people being targeted for what they post about the current situation with ICE raids and the Trump administration’s use of them online. That doesn’t mean that these things won’t happen, however. The further it gets into Trump’s second term, the more that things happen that people probably wouldn’t have believed just a few years ago.

Samsung's One UI 8.5 To Stop Social Media from Eating Your Data

31 October 2025 at 22:42
samsung one ui 8 5 logo featured

A lot of smartphone users spend their time scrolling social media, and this drains the device’s battery very quickly. While Android already has a data saver, Samsung is reportedly working on a smarter data saver for its One UI 8.5 that helps users save data on popular apps like Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube.

One UI 8.5 to have a smarter data saver for social media apps

As reported by Android Authority, a hidden feature called “Adaptive data saver” was found in an early One UI 8.5 test build. Based on the early findings, it appears to control how social apps load videos. Instead of automatically fetching every video as the user scrolls, the phone may only download clips when they actually tap or stop to watch.

While this might sound very simple, it can prevent heavy background data use when you casually scroll through your feed. Furthermore, a string code in the software confirms that the user won’t notice any downgrade in the video quality. Meaning, your data would be saved without compromising the viewing experience. Samsung is aiming for smarter control rather than aggressive limits.

This could save a good amount of data in the long run

How exactly the feature works is unclear. It appears that it likely tweaks prefetching, which is when apps load content before you see it. Most social media apps rely on prefetching to offer a smooth scrolling experience. Samsung could reduce or control this process so the phone only loads what you need. If successful, users will save data while still enjoying fast loading and smooth playback.

Since the feature is still hidden, the company is likely working to refine it before the stable release. While the One UI 8.5 release seems to be delayed, the update is shaping up to bring some meaningful changes for the users.

Samsung & NVIDIA Join Forces to Build AI 'Super-Chip' Megafactory

31 October 2025 at 19:47
AH Samsung Logo (5)

Samsung is one of the few companies in the world that are largely self-reliant. The company makes a lot of components in-house. We’re talking about memory chips and semiconductors. They even have factories to help others make semiconductors. Now, Samsung is taking things to the next level by building an AI megafactory with the help of NVIDIA.

Meet Samsung’s AI megafactory

The facility will deploy more than 50,000 NVIDIA GPUs across Samsung’s manufacturing operations. It will also embed AI into every step of the process. This includes semiconductor design, processing, equipment operation, and quality control. The goal here is to make chip production faster, smarter, and more efficient through real-time analysis and optimization.

The Samsung AI megafactory will use NVIDIA’s Omniverse platform to create digital twins of its facilities. For those unfamiliar with the concept of digital twins, these are essentially virtual replicas of physical fabs. By creating a virtual replica, Samsung can simulate and test changes before implementing them in real life. This helps with predictive maintenance, spotting problems early, and planning operations more effectively.

Samsung is also working with NVIDIA on GPU-accelerated chip design tools alongside partners like Synopsys and Cadence. These tools speed up the design process significantly, with computational lithography performance getting a 20x boost using NVIDIA’s cuLitho library. Shorter development cycles mean better chips reaching the market faster.

Going beyond chips

The partnership extends beyond semiconductor manufacturing. Samsung will use NVIDIA’s RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell Server GPUs to power intelligent robotics in mobile device production. This will help to enable real-time AI reasoning and automate task execution.

Both companies are also advancing AI-RAN technology, which integrates AI into mobile networks. This is crucial for the next generation of AI-powered robots, drones, and industrial machinery that need real-time processing at the network edge.

While Samsung doesn’t have the same reputation when it comes to semiconductors compared to TSMC, leveraging the use of AI to make its manufacturing process smarter and more efficient could help. The company has typically struggled with its yields. This has resulted in companies like Qualcomm turning to TSMC for its chip production. Perhaps with the use of AI, Samsung might finally be able to turn things around.

India lose to England by four runs in ICC Women’s World Cup cricket

England dug in for a four-run victory over India to clinch a semifinal spot at the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup on Sunday, leaving the tournament co-hosts in a five-way contest for the remaining place in the final four.

Chasing a winning target of 289, India stumbled from a position of strength to fall just short as they were restricted to 284-5 in their 50 overs.

India were on course for victory for much of their innings – Smriti Mandhana top-scored with 88, while skipper Harmanpreet Kaur hit a run-a-ball 70.

England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt picked up 2-47 and left-arm spinner Linsey Smith bowled a tight spell of 1-40 in 10 overs, including the key wicket of Mandhana, to apply the brakes on the home team and help pull off a stunning win.

It was India’s third straight loss – following defeats to Australia and South Africa – and stunned the home crowd at Holkar Stadium.

This was after England opted to bat first and posted 288-8, with Heather Knight contributing 109 off 91 balls.

England joined defending champions Australia and South Africa in the semifinals with a fourth win in five games. The four-time champions next play Australia on Wednesday at the same venue.

India are still fourth with four points from five games and need a massive turnaround in form against New Zealand on Thursday and Bangladesh on Sunday in their remaining two group games.

“Smriti’s dismissal was the turning point,” Kaur said. “We had sufficient batting to finish the game, but I don’t know how things went the other way. Credit to England – they kept bowling well and kept getting wickets.”

Co-hosts Sri Lanka take on Bangladesh in Navi Mumbai on Monday.

India come close

The chase did not get off to the best start. Pratika Rawal was caught behind for six, while Charlie Dean trapped Harleen Deol leg before wicket for 24.

Mandhana and Kaur then combined at 42-2, and the pair added 125 runs off 122 balls for the third wicket, with India seemingly cruising on a batting-friendly surface.

Kaur reached her half-century off 54 balls, while Mandhana was content with playing an anchoring role. She reached her second consecutive fifty off 60 balls.

Sciver-Brunt got the breakthrough to dismiss Kaur, but India were still favourites to win.

Deepti Sharma hit 50 off 57, and put on 67 off 66 with Mandhana.

India needed 62 off the last 60 deliveries, but momentum swung when Mandhana went for a big shot against Smith in the 42nd over and was caught on the boundary.

India slipped from 234-3 to 262-6 in 33 deliveries with Sharma out caught off Sophie Ecclestone (1-58) in the 47th over.

England piled on the pressure as Amanjot Kaur (18 not out) and Sneh Rana (10 not out) were unable to finish off the chase.

Knight shines

Knight scored her third ODI hundred to lead England’s innings.

England made a good start with openers Tammy Beaumont (22) and Amy Jones putting on 73 runs. Jones scored 56 off 68 balls.

Off-spinner Sharma accounted for both openers before Knight took over the innings, including a 113-run third-wicket stand with Sciver-Brunt (38 off 49).

“I got myself in and put down the accelerator. It felt like we needed 300 on that pitch, but it was frustrating to not get there in the end,” Knight said. “I was desperate to put in a statement performance for my 300th [international game] and I am pleased to do that.”

Knight reached her century off 86 balls, including 14 fours and a six. She was run out in the 45th over as England slipped towards the end, conceding five wickets for 31 runs across 5.1 overs.

Sharma returned figures of 4-51 in 10 overs and followed up with a half-century, but it was not enough on the day.
