Porsche Turns Heads in Valencia with Cayenne-Inspired 99X Electric Livery

28 October 2025 at 09:25

Porsche has unveiled a striking new look for its 99X Electric Formula E race car, borrowing the prototype camouflage livery from its upcoming all-electric Cayenne. The design will make its debut during official pre-season testing in Valencia this week, driven by Pascal Wehrlein and Nico Müller, before returning to the team’s signature livery for the racing season.

Uber and WeRide Launch Saudi Arabia’s First Autonomous Robotaxi Rides in Riyadh

27 October 2025 at 12:24

In a major milestone for smart mobility in the Middle East, Uber and WeRide have officially launched autonomous robotaxi passenger rides in Riyadh, making Saudi Arabia the first market in the region to host self-driving cars on the Uber platform.

Wrd X Uber Riyadh

Riders travelling between Roshn Front and Princess Noura University can now book a WeRide Robotaxi GXR, marking a new era in the Kingdom’s transportation ecosystem. The pilot project has been backed by the Transport General Authority (TGA) and follows the autonomous vehicle operations inaugurated by Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, Minister of Transport and Logistics Services and TGA Chairman, earlier this year.

Initially, each robotaxi will have a human operator for monitoring and safety, but the goal is to transition to fully driverless operations in the coming months.

WeRide’s robotaxi is the first in Saudi Arabia to receive an autonomous driving permit, after successfully completing the TGA’s regulatory sandbox programme for testing self-driving technology. This milestone builds on WeRide’s earlier success in the UAE, where it joined the Uber platform in Abu Dhabi at the end of 2024.

The collaboration represents a bold step towards Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 goals, combining innovation, safety, and sustainability to reshape urban mobility in the region.

Toyota Camry GT-S Concept Brings Aggressive Flair to SEMA 2025

Toyota has turned up the heat at the 2025 SEMA Show in Las Vegas with the debut of the Camry GT-S Concept — a bold, performance-focused take on the upcoming 2025 Camry XSE AWD Hybrid. While the powertrain remains unchanged — a 2.5-litre four-cylinder hybrid setup producing 232 hp — the GT-S concept is all about attitude, stance, and visual aggression.

Toyota Camry Gt S Concept At Sema 2025

Developed by Toyota’s CALTY Design Research team in Ann Arbor, the concept flaunts a custom “Inferno Flare” exterior finish, enhanced aerodynamics, and an assertive new stance. The chassis sits 1.5 inches lower on adjustable coilovers, complemented by 20-inch performance wheels wrapped in 245/35R20 tyres. To match the visual muscle, Toyota has equipped the GT-S with eight-piston front brake callipers clamping 365mm rotors, and six-piston rears with 356mm rotors for serious stopping power.

Inside, the cabin remains stock, reminding enthusiasts that the Camry’s hybrid practicality and comfort can still coexist with a sporty edge.

BYD Unveils ATTO 2 DM-i in Europe with 1020 km Range and Hybrid Innovation

24 October 2025 at 16:20

BYD has introduced its latest compact SUV for Europe — the ATTO 2 DM-i, powered by the brand’s cutting-edge Super Hybrid DM (Dual Mode-intelligent) technology. The model promises an EV-like driving experience with an impressive combined range of up to 1,020 km, setting a new benchmark in the compact SUV segment.

Byd Atto 2

Following the success of the SEAL U DM-i, Europe’s best-selling plug-in hybrid in several key markets, BYD aims to redefine hybrid performance. The ATTO 2 DM-i can run up to 90 km purely on electric power, unmatched among its rivals. The intelligent hybrid system seamlessly switches between EV and hybrid modes, ensuring peak efficiency whether in city traffic or on long drives.

The SUV will be offered in two variants, each with different battery capacities, power outputs, and range options. Visually, the DM-i version distinguishes itself from the pure-electric ATTO 2 with a larger front grille, revised bumpers, new badging, and a striking Midnight Blue colour exclusive to this variant.

The ATTO 2 DM-i will make its European debut at Fleet Europe Days in Luxembourg this week, followed by media previews in November. Pre-sales will begin soon, with first customer deliveries expected in early 2026.

Geely Launches EX5 Electric SUV in the UK, Targets 1 Lakh Annual Sales by 2030

24 October 2025 at 15:50

Chinese automaker Geely Auto has officially launched the EX5 electric SUV in the UK, marking a major step in its European expansion strategy. The company aims to sell 100,000 vehicles annually in the UK by 2030, backed by a network of 100 sales and service outlets by 2026.

Geely Ex5 Uk

Already operational in 12 European countries including Poland, Greece, and Croatia, Geely plans to further extend its reach into Italy, Germany, France, and Spain. Over the next five years, the brand will introduce 15 new vehicles for European customers, supported by a network of 1,000 dealerships across the continent.

The Geely EX5, available in 33 countries, has quickly gained traction in global markets. Since its March 2025 launch in Australia, the model has seen steady growth, while in Brazil, it claimed the top spot in its segment for two consecutive months post-launch.

Geely’s UK expansion builds on the parent company Geely Holding Group’s strong foundation in the country. The group has been active in the UK since 2006, when it acquired the London Taxi Company, later rebranded as LEVC, and has since made strategic investments in Lotus and Aston Martin.

Cadillac Escalade IQ to Get Eyes-Off Driving by 2028 with GM’s New AI Tech

23 October 2025 at 10:59

General Motors has announced a major leap toward full vehicle autonomy with eyes-off driving capability coming to the Cadillac Escalade IQ in 2028. The feature will debut for highway use and will be complemented by conversational AI features rolling out across GM vehicles next year.

Cadillac Escalade Iq

The system uses a fusion of lidar, radar, and cameras to create a real-time perception layer, trained with millions of miles of driving data. Built on GM’s Super Cruise foundation and enhanced with autonomous expertise from Cruise, the setup blends hands-free convenience with AI-driven decision-making. When active, turquoise lighting on the dashboard and mirrors indicates that the Escalade IQ is driving itself.

GM says its Super Cruise has already enabled over 700 million hands-free miles with zero system-related crashes, paving the way for what the company calls its “most trusted and scalable eyes-off technology.” Availability will vary by state due to differing regulations.

Cadillac Escalade Iq Gemini

Starting next year, GM vehicles will also gain Google Gemini-powered conversational AI, allowing natural voice commands for navigation, messaging, and trip planning — such as finding nearby chargers or prepping for meetings. The automaker is developing its own AI platform for future models, integrated with OnStar to offer maintenance insights, personalised recommendations, and vehicle preconditioning.

Both innovations will run on GM’s next-gen computing architecture, launching in 2028, which promises 35x more AI performance and 1,000x more bandwidth than current systems. Together, they mark a bold step toward a future where GM vehicles can drive, think, and communicate — seamlessly and intelligently.

Colombia September 2025: Sales up 45.2%, Kia (+77.1%) places Picanto and K3 on top

23 October 2025 at 08:48

The Kia Picanto is the best-selling vehicle in Colombia in September.

The Colombian new vehicle market surges 45.2% year-on-year in September to 24,894 units, making it the best month of the year so far. However, remember September 2024 was off -34.7% on the year prior. Through September, sales are up a stunning 29.3% to 175,157. Kia (+77.1%) reclaims control of the brands charts with 14.4% share, its highest since last February. Renault (+39.6%) almost matches the market and stays in 2nd place ahead of a strong Chevrolet (+62.8%). Mazda (+15.2%) is significantly more muted whereas Toyota (-27.2%), #1 last month, dives to #5. BYD (+225.8%) delivers the biggest YoY gain in the Top 20 and passes the 1,000 monthly sales milestone for the first time but is down one spot on August to #9. Hyundai (+79.6%) and Suzuki (+66%) also impress.

In the models ranking, Kia monopolises the Top 2 with the Picanto (+131.3%) at #1 and the K3 (+54.5%) at #2. The Mazda CX-30 (+5.6%) is down one spot to #3, distancing the Chevrolet Onix (+108.8%) and Renault Duster Nacional (+48.2%). The Kia Sportage (+240.4%) spectacularly storms into the Top 10 at #6, up 8 ranks on last month. #1 last month and year-to-date, the Toyota Corolla Cross (-35%) would rather forget about this month. The best-selling newcomer is once again the BYD Yuan Up albeit down 3 spots to #11.

Audi Revamps myAudi App with AI Assistant and Smart Digital Key

22 October 2025 at 13:32

Audi has rolled out a major update to its myAudi app, introducing AI-powered features including a smart assistant developed with CARIAD using ChatGPT technology. The refreshed app now bridges the gap between vehicle, smartphone, and web interfaces through a unified design, enhancing convenience and connectivity for Audi owners.

Audi Myaudi App Scaled

The new AI assistant can access the car’s logbook and even answer technical queries directly from the onboard manual. The app also integrates a digital key, allowing users to lock, unlock, and start their vehicles using a smartphone or smartwatch—no physical key required.

A new shopping tab offers personalised recommendations for both digital services and physical accessories tailored to each vehicle. Meanwhile, existing functions like route planning, charging management, and vehicle data access remain fully integrated.

For electric vehicle users, the myAudi app now manages charging schedules, Plug & Charge, battery preconditioning, and range tracking, with an advanced route planner that highlights charging stations and sends trips directly to the car.

Available now in over 50 markets across Europe and the Pacific, Audi plans to expand to Brazil, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Oman soon.

Audi says the redesigned app delivers a more intuitive and premium experience, acting as the gateway to its growing digital ecosystem. With continuous updates planned, myAudi aims to make every drive smarter, more connected, and distinctly Audi.

Greece September 2025: Toyota at highest in almost a year, sales surge 27%

22 October 2025 at 11:33

Toyota C-HR sales are up 72.3% in September.

It’s the best month of the year by far in Greece with September volumes surging 27% year-on-year to 12,273. A caveat to this performance is the fact that September 2024 was off -15.3% on the year prior. The year-to-date tally is now up 3.9% to 112,232. Toyota (+30.2%) signs its highest market share in almost a year at 17.8% (October 2024 18.3%) while Suzuki (+29.3%) is back up five spots on last month to #2. Hyundai (+47.8%) stays at #3 with Peugeot (+11%) and BMW (+8.5%) weak in context. Citroen (+112.7%), Renault (+67.7%) and Volkswagen (+76.1%) deliver the biggest year-on-year gains in the Top 10. Below, Nissan (+145.8%), Mercedes (+59.9%) and MG (+54.5%) stand out. We welcome Zeekr and Changan Deepal in the charts.

Over in the models ranking, the Toyota Yaris Cross (+68.3%) is up to a fantastic 7.4% share after reaching 7.9% last month. As a result it poses the Peugeot 2008 (+40.1%) year-to-date to snap the pole position, a ranking it held over the Full Year 2024. The Renault Clio (+77.8%) advances to #3 vs. #12 YTD while the Toyota C-HR (+72.3%) rallies back up 19 spots on August to rank at #4 vs. #11 so far this year. The Suzuki Swift (+125.2%), Nissan Juke (+91.6%), Suzuki Vitara (+36.6%) and Citroen C3 (+35.5%) also beat the market in the remainder of the Top 10.

Previous month: Greece August 2025: Citroen (+207%), Opel (+107.8%) stand out in weak market

One year ago: Greece September 2024: BMW X1 up to #3, sales fall -15.3%

Thailand August 2025: MG (+100.8%) surges, BYD (-26.9%) falls

22 October 2025 at 09:53

The MG 4 ranks #7 in Thailand in August.

New light vehicle sales in Thailand are off -4.8% year-on-year in August to 46,365. The year-to-date tally now stands at 416,579. The Top 4 brands all trail the market with harsh double-digit losses. Toyota (-12.2%) resists best above Isuzu (-15.3%), Honda (-20%) and, surprisingly given the brand’s current global momentum, BYD (-26.9%). In contrast MG (+100.8%) doubles its year-ago result to repeat at a record #5 with 5.1% share vs. 3.6% so far this year. Changan (+153.6%) and GAC Aion (+152.8%) also post fantastic scores in the remainder of the Top 10. But once again it’s TANK (+910.7%) that delivers the best performance in market but it slips outside the Top 10 at #11. Ora (+145.3%) also makes itself noticed at #15.

Model-wise, the Toyota Hilux Revo (-18.5%) freefalls but still manages a market share superior to its YTD level at 11% vs. 10.5%. The Toyota Yaris Ativ (+9.7%) ranks #2 for the 4th straight month but is stuck at #3 year-to-date below the Isuzu D-Max (-16.4%) who dominated the market until 2023. The Toyota Yaris Cross (-6%), Honda City (-25.8%) and HR-V (-14.7%) follow. The best performer in the Top 10 is the MG 4 (+280.2%) up a further one spot on last month to #7 vs. #14 year-to-date and #23 over the Full Year 2025. The Toyota Fortuner (+7.8%) is also in good shape year-on-year at #8. Notice also the TANK 300 (+1169.55) at #15, the new Mitsubishi Xforce at #16 and the Changan Lumin (+1208.6%) at #23.

Previous month: Thailand July 2025: MG (#5), Tank (#9) stand out

One year ago: Thailand August 2024: Toyota up to 41.7% share, BYD up to #4

Porsche Unleashes All-Electric Macan GTS with 571PS and Sharper Dynamics

22 October 2025 at 10:51

Porsche has added a new crown jewel to its electric SUV lineup — the Macan GTS, the first-ever all-electric model to wear the iconic GTS badge. Slotting above the Macan 4 and Turbo, the performance-focused variant packs 380kW (516PS) from its dual-motor setup, with 420kW (571PS) available in overboost via Launch Control and a massive 955Nm of torque.

Porsche Macan Gts

Blistering quick, the Macan GTS rockets from 0–100km/h in 3.8 seconds, hitting 200km/h in 13.3 seconds and topping out at 250km/h. Power comes from a 100kWh battery offering up to 586km WLTP range, with 270kW fast charging taking it from 10–80% in just 21 minutes.

Built for drivers who crave performance, the GTS features Porsche Traction Management, Torque Vectoring Plus, and sports air suspension tuned 10mm lower than other Macan EVs. With a 48:52 rear-biased weight balance and the lowest centre of gravity in the lineup, this Macan promises true Porsche agility.

Porsche Macan Gts Rear Quarter

Styling follows GTS tradition with black exterior detailing, Matrix LED headlights, and 21-inch Macan Design wheels, while the cabin is wrapped in Race-Tex upholstery and carbon-fibre trim. The optional GTS Interior Package offers colour-matched detailing in Carmine Red, Slate Grey Neo, or Lugano Blue.

Inside, tech upgrades include AI-powered Voice Pilot, Porsche Digital Key, and enhanced parking assistance. The Electric Sport Sound system adds two distinct GTS sound profiles, completing the performance experience.

In short, the Macan GTS brings Porsche’s GTS spirit into the EV era — a sharper, faster, and more emotional take on electric performance.

Toyota Reveals Compact Land Cruiser FJ Ahead of 2026 Launch

21 October 2025 at 14:04

Toyota has expanded its legendary Land Cruiser family with the all-new Land Cruiser FJ, a compact, modular off-roader designed for adventure seekers. Set to debut at the Japan Mobility Show 2025 in Tokyo, the FJ will officially go on sale in Japan around mid-2026.

2026 Toyota Land Cruiser Fj

The FJ marks the fourth member of the Land Cruiser lineup, joining the 300 Series, 70 Series, and 250 Series. Built on Toyota’s IMV platform, the FJ sports a wheelbase 270mm shorter than the Land Cruiser 250, offering a tight 5.5-metre turning radius for better manoeuvrability without compromising its off-road prowess. Toyota claims the FJ’s wheel articulation and ground clearance rival the rugged 70 Series, keeping its go-anywhere DNA intact.

Design-wise, the FJ embraces a bold “dice motif” with chamfered edges, a squared-off cabin, and modular bumpers that can be replaced individually after damage — ideal for trail use. Inside, it features a clean horizontal dashboard layout, consolidated controls for easy operation, and comes equipped with Toyota Safety Sense as standard.

Toyota plans to offer extensive customisation options, including retro-inspired round headlights and MOLLE panels for outdoor gear. The automaker is also developing a quirky companion — the Land Hopper, an electric personal mobility device that fits in the FJ’s cargo area, designed to explore where the SUV can’t go.

Carrying forward over seven decades of Land Cruiser heritage, the FJ embodies Toyota’s promise of “Freedom & Joy,” blending reliability, durability, and off-road capability in a more accessible, adventure-ready package.

Porsche Expands Charging Network with New Lounge at Evendorf

21 October 2025 at 10:26

Porsche has opened its ninth brand-exclusive charging lounge, this time near the Evendorf autobahn exit on Germany’s A7 highway, connecting the country’s northern and southern regions.

Porsche Lounge At Evendorf

The new facility in Lower Saxony features six DC fast-charging points, each capable of delivering up to 400kW, ensuring full power even when all chargers are in use. It’s the second Porsche lounge on the A7, joining the one at Estenfeld near Würzburg. Other Porsche Charging Lounges operate in Bingen am Rhein, Hamburg, Ingolstadt, Leonberg, Ringsheim, Koblach (Austria), and Nyon (Switzerland).

Inside, the Evendorf lounge offers a premium rest stop experience with lounge chairs, refreshments, coffee machines, and complimentary Wi-Fi. Outdoor seating areas feature covered spaces and built-in speakers, while round-the-clock monitoring ensures security.

Performance-wise, a Taycan can charge from 10–80% in just 18 minutes, while a Macan achieves the same in 21 minutes. The facility integrates with the Porsche Charging Service, which now includes over 900,000 charging points across 27 European countries, with nearly 85,000 of them offering more than 150kW capacity.

Porsche Charging Service Plus members can enjoy discounted rates — as low as €0.39 per kWh — at partner stations like IONITY, Aral pulse, GoFast, and Fines Charging.

Porsche Lounge At Evendorf Interior

Access to the lounge and charging bays requires a Porsche ID, which can be linked to the vehicle’s number plate for automatic barrier entry. Porsche’s My Porsche app, which recently topped Auto Bild’s 2025 survey for usability and network coverage, manages all services seamlessly.

With the Evendorf lounge, Porsche continues to refine long-distance electric travel — the brand’s way of making every charge as premium as every drive.

The stunning concept debuted in Milan before making its way to the IAA Mobility Show in Munich, setting the stage for Audi’s upcoming era of electric performance and emotion-driven design.

Audi Concept C Scaled

The Concept C represents Audi’s renewed focus on four core principles — clarity, emotional appeal, technical excellence, and intelligent design. The open-top roadster blends aerodynamic purity with sculpted elegance, promising exceptional driving dynamics and high-speed performance in its future production form.

Inside, Audi’s designers have created a cabin that fuses technology with emotion. Physical controls are crafted with precision, each delivering the signature “Audi click” — a tactile confirmation of quality. A hidden 10.4-inch display emerges only when required, keeping the interior minimal and driver-focused. Meanwhile, curated materials and fine craftsmanship deliver an ambience that feels both futuristic and timeless.

From its proportions to its surfaces and detailing, the Concept C defines the aesthetic direction for Audi’s future electric models. Drawing inspiration from icons like the TT, R8, RS6, and Auto Union Type C, the concept reaffirms the brand’s legacy of design-led innovation and technical brilliance.

500,000 VW Polo Units Produced at Volkswagen Kariega Plant

20 October 2025 at 14:53

Volkswagen Group Africa’s Kariega plant has achieved a major production milestone, rolling out 500,000 units of the current-generation Polo since the facelifted model entered production in August 2021. The landmark car — a striking Kings Red Polo headed for Germany — rolled off the line earlier this month.

Vw Polo Kariega Plant

The Kariega facility has been the exclusive global production hub for the Polo since July 2024, supplying vehicles to over 30 countries across Europe and the Asia-Pacific region. Out of the 500,000 units produced, 452,207 were exported while 47,793 were built for the South African domestic market. Impressively, nearly two million Polos have been manufactured at Kariega since the model’s production began in 1996.

The achievement reinforces Volkswagen’s dominance in South Africa, where the Polo was named Vehicle of the Year, Top Local Manufacturer, and Top Exported Vehicle at the 2024 Naamsa Accelerator Awards. It also remains South Africa’s most exported car, underlining its global appeal and the plant’s world-class manufacturing standards.

This milestone comes just over a year after the Kariega facility was designated the official home of Polo production, further strengthening Volkswagen’s commitment to the region. With its strong export performance and reputation for quality, the Polo continues to be a symbol of precision engineering and reliability, both at home and abroad.

Ferrari SC40: A Modern Tribute to the Iconic F40

20 October 2025 at 12:46

Ferrari has once again reached into its glorious past to create something truly special — the one-off SC40, a bespoke supercar that pays homage to the legendary F40, Enzo Ferrari’s final masterpiece. While it’s not a direct successor, the SC40 captures the spirit of the 1980s icon through design details and craftsmanship that reflect Ferrari’s rich heritage.

Ferrari Sc40

Built upon the 296 GTB, the SC40 sheds its familiar curves for sharper, more angular lines reminiscent of the F40’s design language. Created entirely in-house by Ferrari’s Styling Centre under Flavio Manzoni, the SC40 wears its influences subtly — from NACA-style side intakes to the “SC40” script etched into the rear wing. The smoked Lexan louvres over the V6 engine bay and the white “stormtrooper” finish give it an unmistakable presence that feels both futuristic and nostalgic.

Inside, Ferrari has gone all-in on motorsport minimalism. The cabin features extensive use of Kevlar, covering the dashboard, seats, and even the floor mats — a direct nod to the lightweight ethos of the F40.

Though it retains the 296 GTB’s hybrid V6 powertrain, the SC40 stands apart as a unique creation under Ferrari’s Special Projects division, a program where select clients collaborate closely on every stage of design and validation.

The SC40 is a one-off masterpiece, never to be replicated, but its legacy will live on. For now, enthusiasts can see a full-scale model at the Ferrari Museum in Maranello — a modern salute to the car that defined an era.

Malaysia August 2025: Proton, Chery, BYD highlight positive market

20 October 2025 at 07:45

Proton X50 sales are up 79.8% in August.

The Malaysian new car market is up 4.6% year-on-year in August to 78,474 units. The year-to-date tally stands at 547,378. Perodua (-7.8%) can’t take advantage of its home market growth and falls to 40.8% share vs. 46.3% a year ago. In contrast Proton (+18.4%) and Toyota (+9.1%) improve their share to 18.6% and 14.8% respectively. Honda (-20.8%) craters at #4 ahead of a surging Chery (+692.5%). BYD (+109.9%) and Jaecoo (+87.2%) shine while Mitsubishi (+21%) and Mercedes (+17.1%) also shine in the remainder of the Top 10.

Model-wise, the Top 5 is unchanged on last month and year-to-date but the Perodua Alza (+8%) is the only member in positive. The Perodua Bezza (-10.7%) suffers the most, followed by the Axia (-3.5%), Myvi (-3.3%) and Proton Saga (-0.3%). The Proton X50 (+79.8%), a rebadged Geely Coolray/Binyue scores by far the biggest year-on-year gain in the Top 20 and climbs four spots on last month to #6, ascending to #9 YTD as a result. This is thanks to a noticeable facelift. The Toyota Hilux (+21.2%) and Vios (+10.6%) also impress with double-digit upticks in the remainder of the Top 10. The Chery Tiggo 7 Pro (#20) and Proton e.MAS 7 (#21) are the most popular recent launches.

Previous month: Malaysia July 2025: Perodua up to 44.6% share

One year ago: Malaysia August 2024: Perodua holds 46.3% share, Bezza, Axia and Myvi on top

New Caledonia (France) January-September 2025: Mitsubishi (+22.1%), Subaru (+21.3%) defy market off -23.3%

20 October 2025 at 05:26

MiThe Mitsubishi ASX sold in New Caledonia is not the European model.

Continuing social unrest means New Caledonian new car sales freefall again through September at -23.3% to 2,487 units. Keep in mind the year-ago volume was already off -48.7% on the year prior. Toyota (-41.7%) falls markedly faster than the market, seeing its share reduced to 14%. In contrast Renault (-7.6%) and Suzuki (-13.2%) resist relatively well in context and complete the podium like they did over the Full Year 2024. Hyundai (+1.1%) is the only gainer in the Top 8 and climbs four spots to #4. Dacia (-45.3%) and Peugeot (-30.1%) are hit the hardest below but Mitsubishi (+22.1%) and Subaru (+21.3%) post market-defying surges to close out the Top 10. BAIC (+94.7%), Fiat (+54.2%) and BYD (+15.4%) also impress further down.

Over in the models charts, the Toyota Hilux (-51.6%) stays on top but loses over half its year-ago volume. It is followed this time by the Suzuki Swift (-9.3%) passing the Dacia Duster (-31.5%). The Ford Ranger (+11.8%) is actually up to #4 while the Mitsubishi ASX (+64.5%) and Renault Kangoo (+9.4%) also post year-on-year upticks in the remainder of the Top 10. The Renault Master (-3.4%), Hyundai Tucson (-7.5%) and Suzuki Jimny (-10.3%) resist but the Citroen Berlingo (-28.8%) dives.

Previous post: New Caledonia (France) First Half 2025: Market down -41.1%, Subaru (+1.4%) island of growth

One year ago: New Caledonia (France) January-September 2024: Dacia (-14.2%) resists in devastated market (-48.7%)

Why Your Car Speakers Could Act Up This Winter

19 October 2025 at 10:28

As winter approaches, many drivers will soon notice their car speakers starting to crackle, cut out, or sound muffled. Freezing temperatures put serious strain on vehicle audio systems, causing everything from delayed start-ups to one speaker mysteriously going silent mid-journey.

Kazimieras Urbonas, Supplier Excellence Manager at Ovoko, one of Europe's largest online marketplaces for used car parts, sees these problems every winter through the platform's network of over 4,000 auto dismantlers.

“Cold weather is one of the most common culprits behind audio system failures,” he says. “The symptoms often seem random, but they all point back to how freezing temperatures affect the delicate components inside your audio system.”

With winter just around the corner, Urbonas explains exactly why the cold causes these audio headaches and what you can do to protect your system now.

How Cold Temperatures Affect Car Audio Components

Winter attacks your car's audio system from multiple angles. Speaker surrounds (the flexible edges that allow the cone to move) can become stiff or brittle when temperatures drop. This changes how sound waves are produced, leading to distortion or reduced volume.

“When temperatures drop below freezing, the materials in your speakers contract,” explains Urbonas. “This changes how sound waves are produced, leading to distortion or reduced volume.”

Cold weather also increases resistance in wiring, meaning signals don't travel as efficiently. Your battery works harder to start the engine in freezing conditions too, leaving less power for accessories like your stereo. This results in speakers that sound weak or take longer to start up.

Common Symptoms You'll Experience

Urbonas lists several warning signs that your speakers are being impacted by the weather:

  • Crackling or Popping Sounds - Usually points to moisture buildup or loose connections that have contracted in the cold. You'll often hear it most when you first turn the system on.
  • Muffled or Weak Sound - If your music sounds like it's playing through a pillow, the speaker cones may have stiffened, preventing proper vibration.
  • Delayed Start-Up - Audio taking 30 seconds or more to work typically indicates your battery is struggling in cold conditions.
  • One Speaker Cutting Out - Often due to a connection that's contracted in the cold or condensation causing a short circuit.

What's Actually Causing These Issues

  • Condensation Damage - When warm air inside your car meets cold surfaces, moisture forms. This can seep into speaker housings, corroding connections and causing short circuits. Door speakers are particularly vulnerable.
  • Battery Voltage Drops - A healthy battery outputs around 12.6 volts. In freezing temperatures, this drops significantly. Your audio system needs adequate voltage to function properly.

“People tend not to realize that their battery is the root cause,” says Urbonas. “They blame the speakers when actually the power supply is compromised.”

  • Frozen Speaker Surrounds - The rubber or foam surrounds can freeze or become rigid, restricting movement and reducing sound quality.
  • Brittle Wiring - Older wiring insulation becomes brittle in extreme cold. Vibrations from driving can cause these weakened wires to crack or break, creating intermittent connections.

Quick DIY Troubleshooting Tips

Urbonas recommends taking these steps to make sure your speakers are in good working order and not vulnerable to the winter weather:

  1. Check All Connections - Pop open your door panels and inspect speaker wire connections. Push any loose connectors firmly back into place.
  2. Test Your Battery - Most auto parts shops will test your battery for free. If it's showing weak voltage, charging or replacing it might solve your audio problems entirely.
  3. Warm Up Gradually - Give your stereo a few minutes to warm up after starting the car. This allows components to reach operating temperature and reduces stress on frozen parts.
  4. Dry Out Moisture - If you suspect condensation, leave your car in a warm garage with doors slightly open for a few hours.

“Simple troubleshooting can fix the majority of winter audio problems,” says Urbonas. “What’s important is identifying whether it's an electrical issue, a mechanical problem with the speakers themselves, or just condensation.”

When To Seek Professional Repair

Head to a professional if crackling persists after drying out the system, you smell burning, multiple speakers fail simultaneously, or the problem worsens over time.

“Don't ignore persistent issues,” warns Urbonas. “What starts as minor crackling can escalate to complete speaker failure.”

Preventative Tips To Protect Your Speakers

Urbonas suggests several tips you can take to protect your speakers:

Warm-Up Habits - Start your car and let it idle for two to three minutes before driving. Keep the volume low initially.

Safe Cleaning - Avoid pressure washing door panels where speakers sit. Water can seep through seals and cause long-term damage.

Insulation - Consider adding sound-deadening material to door panels. This provides extra protection against cold and moisture.

“We see significant differences in speaker longevity between vehicles with proper insulation and those without,” observes Urbonas. “It's a small investment that pays off.”

Battery Care - Keep your battery terminals clean and tight. A weak battery connection amplifies all the other cold-weather problems.

Kazimieras Urbonas, Supplier Excellence Manager at Ovoko, commented:

“Winter places enormous stress on every part of your vehicle, not just the audio system. That's why I always recommend car owners perform comprehensive pre-winter checks rather than waiting for problems to appear.

“Start with your battery, as it's the heart of your electrical system. Have it tested and replace it if it's more than three years old. Check all fluid levels, especially antifreeze and screenwash. Inspect your tyres for adequate tread depth and correct pressure, as cold weather affects both.

“Don't overlook the small things either. Test all lights, check wiper blades, and make sure your heating system works properly. A few hours of preventative maintenance now can save you from being stranded in freezing conditions or facing expensive repairs later. Your audio system is just one component, but taking care of the whole vehicle ensures everything works together as it should.”
